I would like to ask that the person wishing to address the board when recognized will step up to the microphone and announce his or her name.

SPEAKER_00 0:02:26

Hi, my name is Nicole Persaud.

SPEAKER_06 0:02:29

Hang on, Nicole. I'm sorry. I've got one more little thing to read, then I'll let you go, OK? Sorry about that. So take a deep breath. Here we go. The chairperson shall, in the interest of facilitating the business of the board, limit the amount of time which a member of the public may use in addressing the board to three minutes, unless we, as a majority of the board, determine that a different time limit is appropriate. We want to know what has changed in the job description and, uh, is there a change in the amount of staff or is it just the job description and, or are you hiring more people? Doesn't describe it here in the appendix.

SPEAKER_06 0:03:31

So we can actually answer those questions since it's on the agenda for you. Those items are actually in printed form in the Human Resources Department. And Sabine Robertson Phillips' office would, I'm sure, be more than happy to share that information with you.

Thank you. Sandabs?

SPEAKER_09 0:06:42

No report on Sandabs.

SPEAKER_06 0:06:45

I have nothing from delegate assembly. I did receive an email from Jill. I can't think of Jill's last name all of a sudden. Yeah, Jill Green. Thank you. Jill Green is on the coalition for REV stadium and I'm going to read what she emailed me. East Valley Stadium Coalition has collaborated with Redlands Community Foundation and formed a nonprofit to raise money for the REV Stadium and help Redlands Unified School District complete the stadium project expeditiously. They are currently seeking individuals and businesses who are interested in contributing to this project and our community. Their email is eastvalleystadiumcoalitionatgmail.com. They can also be reached through the Facebook page, Build Wildcat Stadium, Friends of REV High School. And soon there's gonna be a GoFundMe that'll go active to help raise funds. And I know, Jason, that things are progressing, right? Excellent. So exciting times for REV and their new stadium. Okay. The superintendent is out tonight, so we do not have a superintendent's report. But we do have his recommendations on several items. So at this time, I'm going to ask Jason. First off, business services consent items, are there any corrections or additions?

SPEAKER_05 0:08:22

Yes, President O'Neill, we have a correction to business services consent item E. We would like to change out page 10 for a corrected page 10. I'm Heidi Macklemore has placed the corrected 2022-23 destination of CIF representatives at your seats.

SPEAKER_06 0:08:38

Yes. Did everybody get a copy of that connection? Very good. All right. Well, if there's nothing further, approve all consent items as detailed in items 6B, excuse me, 11B to 11I. I need a motion to approve. So moved. Second. Any discussion? Hearing none, call for the vote. All those in favor say aye. Aye. Chair votes aye and so approved. SPEAKER_06 0:10:58

For discussion, I would love to read this resolution. Resolution number 40, 2021-22. Whereas teachers in the Redlands Unified School District are conscientious, well-qualified professionals, and whereas assisting children to reach their highest potential is a demanding career requiring dedication and a caring nature. and whereas eminently qualified teachers are needed for the schooling of a well-educated citizenry, and whereas the free public education available to all Americans is essential to this nation's democracy, and whereas the second Wednesday in May has been designated Day of the Teacher by the California Legislature, and whereas the observance is an opportunity to thank teachers for dedicating their professional lives to our children, And whereas the occasion is not only a chance to honor teachers, but to encourage more young people to plan careers in the classroom. And whereas the board urges members of the community to let teachers know how much their hard work and dedication is appreciated and urges students to consider teaching as a career. Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Redlands Unified School District Governing Board joins with educational agencies throughout the state in proclaiming May 11th, 2022 to be the 2022 Day of the Teacher. May I call for the vote? All those in favor say aye.

SPEAKER_07 0:12:28

SPEAKER_03 0:12:42

May I have a motion to approve? So moved.

SPEAKER_06 0:12:45

Second. I'd like to read this resolution. Education Support Professionals Day. Whereas education support professionals in the Redlands Unified School District include paraprofessionals, school secretaries, custodians, bus drivers, technicians, maintenance workers, and many others who make our schools run smoothly, safely, and professionally. And whereas education support professionals are on the front lines of public education, supporting children to reach their highest potential. And whereas education support professionals strengthen our schools by the work they carry out every day with a dedicated and caring nature. And whereas Redlands Unified School District's education support professionals are, more often than not, from the local community, vested in our schools and actively participate in community and school activities. And whereas the Tuesday of the third full week in May has been designated Education Support Professionals Day by the California legislature. And whereas the observance is an opportunity to thank education support professionals for dedicating their professional lives to our children. And whereas the occasion is not only a chance to honor education support professionals, but to encourage more young people to plan careers in education. And whereas the board urges members of the community to let education support professionals know how much their hard work and dedication is appreciated. Now therefore be it resolved that the Redlands Unified School District Governing Board joins with educational agencies throughout the state in proclaiming May 17, 2022 to be the 2022 Education Support Professional Days. All those in favor say aye. Aye. Chair votes aye and so adopted. We're up to item 15, human resources consent items. Dr. Robertson-Phillips, any corrections, additions?

SPEAKER_04 0:14:39

I have no corrections or additions this evening, thank you.

SPEAKER_06 0:14:42

What changes?

SPEAKER_04 0:14:44

Additions, corrections, changes.

SPEAKER_06 0:14:46

SPEAKER_04 0:14:47

Item 17, this is the time that any member of the public may address the board on any matter that is within the jurisdiction of the board provided the person submits a completed registration card to address the board form to the clerk of the board or his or her designee prior to the time the chairperson calls the item for the board's consideration. This is not meant to be a debating period. Complaints and problems relating to policy matters will be referred to the superintendent or staff. The person wishing to address the board shall, when recognized by the chairperson of the board, step up to the microphone and announce your name and, if known, the trustee area. The chairperson shall, in the interest of facilitating the business of the board, limit the amount of time which a member may use to address the board to three minutes unless the chairperson or a majority of the board determines that a different time limit would be appropriate. So at this time, Carrie Ann, would you like to read the name of one of the persons that would like to speak? It's in there.

SPEAKER_00 0:17:09

Hello, my name is Nicole Prasad. This barrier you're creating with Zoom and six screens inhibits progress and professional dialogue. When you start listening and communicating with concerned parents like myself, there will be positive progress. Until then, I hope you remain scared, like I was when schools closed down and my child's education suffered, or when my child was scared wearing a mask because she was hard for her to breathe and itched, but was forced to wear one. We parents are here because we love our kids and will continue to fight for their freedom. I believe you were never in the business of educating on health. You never gave health advice. You only told us how to comply. Health advice would show us how to create stronger bodies with nutrient dense root foods like garlic, turmeric, ginger, all of which enhance immune response and decrease inflammation. Our government and FDA allow bleach flower on our store shelves. Who in their right mind would drink bleach, even in a small amount, yet is allowed in our foods? Yellow number five is a derivative of petroleum. This is allowed in our foods as a coloring agent. Artificial flavors come from crude oil and coal. Our government does not make companies remove risky ingredients from our food supply until they are proven dangerous. Imagine suing the government. It would take years, a lot of money and tons of red tape. VAERS vaccine adverse event reporting system. Last month there were 26,225 deaths after getting vaccinated. This month there's 29,129 deaths after getting vaccinated. I have more knowledge than you in health with my classes in chemistry microbiology anatomy and physiology and physics. I want the freedom to make my kids' health decisions without coercion from you or the government. I want you to start teaching our kids basic cooking. Allow salad bars back in schools. Eliminate all processed foods from schools. With only two years of data, they have failed to report accurately. The control has been compromised and you have been given money to keep your mouth shut and follow orders. We are at war with the government and you are the faces that bow to their demands in exchange for money. I want the freedom. I want you to say that you will never put a mask on our kids again. I want you to know that even though this epidemic is over, they're still pushing for bills on vaccines that was made two years ago. It has now been and mutated. They're still bushing for 12 year olds to have consent on health when they don't even know how to cook, clean or fend for themselves. They don't know about their health industry. So the fight continues because they still continue to push these bills. And as long as they push the bills, then it'll be in your hands. And you need to make sure that you stand up and not be cowards in this fight with us for freedom.

SPEAKER_01 0:20:31

Hi, my name's Christine Collinsworth. I'm here once again. I'm in district four. I'm here to talk about, well, I'm here to ask you how long this charade's gonna go on. How long you're gonna make this a circus show? All these police here that could be home with their families or on the streets protecting the city. You guys are not here in support of the community. You guys, I, okay, so, I'm gonna share with you my story. My son in March 2020, my son was a sophomore when the world shut down, just like everyone else. But the last two years of his high school were robbed from him by you because you bow down to the state and the government run schools. You bow down to anything that comes your way from the left. My son was robbed of the last two years of sports, memories with his friends that he'll never get back. You refused him an in-person education because he would never once, he would never bow down and wear a mask to school. And you know what? He gets so much praise and respect because he stands by his values and it takes such grit to do that. to sacrifice your basically your whole high school experience to do something like that but you guys would never know anything about that but instead you want to call me racist for serving you which was in my legal within my well within my rights but you want to call me racist because you're assuming that I'm white are you not you're assuming I'm white you have no like no idea what my ethnicity is No clue, but since we're judging upon the appearance of people, you guys do not appear to be in the state of mind to make medical decisions for my children or health decisions for my children. You guys don't look like you're in the best of health, in my opinion. Okay? I do. I think I look like I'm someone who would know what's healthy for my child. Not you. But everything that my son's been through in the last two years is on your hands. It's on you. Everything. You wonder why us moms are so upset? This is what we went through. He'll never get that back.

SPEAKER_08 0:22:54

Next we have Candy Olson. You know, just like everyone else, I think this is a total laughing stock. I think you guys should be ashamed of yourself that you can't be here and present and speak to the parents that you don't have the nerve and the decency to speak to us face to face. I'm not going to waste my time on that though, but I just can't believe it. I can't believe you can't get your act together enough to come and meet us in person and have a discussion. That's ridiculous and shameful. In the news recently, I'm sure you guys were aware Netflix shares dropped $57 billion in one week alone. Disney lost $50 billion in market value during the month of March. CNN Plus crashed and burned shortly after launch. And then we also heard about how California State Superintendent Tony Thurmond announced the creation of a task force to combat declining school enrollment. What does all this have to do with each other? Well, you don't need a task force to figure out what the problem is. It's right in front of your eyes. The problem is your woke liberal agendas. And the majority of Americans, we don't want it. So, you know, you think the parents shouldn't have the rights to their children's health care, medical choices, sex education. You believe in an overall theme of the state being able to raise and indoctrinate our children, not the parents. Our rights didn't matter over the last couple of years. Our children's constitutional rights didn't matter. And soon their rights to bodily autonomy won't matter either. Americans are done. We're their parents and we raise our children. For example, Wildcats for Change promotes Marxist ideology, the Black Panther Party and trans culture. Jim even has their t-shirt to sport around town. So I would advise and request this school district to stop letting perverse progressive ideology invade our schools. This is why your enrollment is dropping and you haven't even seen next year yet. Just wait until next year. You guys are catering to a very small elite, very small elite group at the top and the very vocal, loud, small minority of people on the left. And Americans are sick of it. That's why you see all of this Disney imploding. We are not on board with all of that. And we're just a couple moms, three moms here, four moms, sorry, that show up all the time. But there is a lot more of us. They just don't have time to come here. I guess we're the strong-willed ones that just want you guys to know that this isn't working. And if you want a successful school district, you don't need a task force. You just need to stop pushing leftist ideology. We don't want it. Get it out of our schools. Thank you.

SPEAKER_09 0:25:45

We have no more public comment.

SPEAKER_06 0:25:48

Okay, thank you for your input tonight. We'll move on to board comments. So, we start with you, Mrs. Holohan.

SPEAKER_09 0:25:58

Sure, thank you. I attended the University of Redlands Town and Gown event on April 16th. Congratulations to all the winners and especially Garner Holt, who was recognized that evening. Also attended the I want to thank RESPA for inviting me and all of us on the board actually for their Taco Day that they had. It was great to catch up with our employees in a casual and fun event and thank you for the invite and I look forward to next year. Also attended the 50th anniversary celebration for Crafton Hills College with Mauricio and Ken and Julie. We were all there in attendance. Congrats to Crafton Hills College Foundation for hosting a great event and I was wondering, well, we can put in our board notes if we can send a letter congratulating Crafton Hills College on their 50th anniversary. So we can do that on behalf of the board. Um, here we are in May again, there's always resignations. And one that I was sad to see was Tracy Massimiano from REV. She's been an amazing art teacher and she's retiring. So I want to thank her for the, I believe it was 22 years that we saw, and then congrats to all the other retirees that we have. But I worked with Tracy at the Redlands Bulls.

SPEAKER_08 0:27:19

So we did that.

SPEAKER_09 0:27:20

And then lastly, I just want to thank all our administrative professionals for all their hard work in making Redlands Unified School District the best district locally. And special thanks to Heidi and Rose for supporting the Board of Education. We appreciate you so much. Thank you. And that's my report for the evening.

SPEAKER_06 0:27:37

Thank you. This is Raina Lecomte. OK.

SPEAKER_07 0:27:47

First, I want to give a shout out to Mrs. Shields' fourth grade class at Kingsbury. With the use of the STEAM Lab, her class was able to put together a virtual tour of sorts of the 21 California missions on the coast. And all the students narrated about the mission, talked about it. It was a really cute video. If you want to see it, I don't know if everybody got it, but I can forward it to you. I got it from the teacher. Also, a special thanks to all our elementary schools and middle schools. Each school booked an assembly with one of the professional cycling teams from the Redlands Bike School Classic. We were able to reach about 10,000 kids this year in total between RUSD, Yucaipa, and San Bernardino. I enjoyed watching and helping with the school duel on last Saturday at the Bike Classic. A lot of fun to see 410 kids out there between ages three and 17. It was a lot of fun. And I'm not going to tell you who won the school duel. It'll be coming at the next meeting. So that will be a special thing for them. And I also went to the taco night at Respa. I enjoyed talking to the many employees and learning what their concerns were and eating ice cream because I couldn't eat the taco. So I got to eat ice cream. So anyway, I want to also thank teachers and principals and staff and our superintendent for volunteering to play on the referee rebounders against the Harlem Wizards last Friday night. We had about 400 more in attendance than the previous time that we did it, which was three years ago. And so it was really nice. And I just want to tell Dr. Acosta, the principal at Franklin, that I hope she's feeling better. She hurt her knee that night. Didn't get to play, but she was very enthusiastic. We had cheerleaders there and mascots. It was really fun. We had a good night. And if you were not able to attend, I highly recommend that you do so next year. We scheduled nine visits that morning with the Wizards players coming to talk with kids at schools. And if you talk to any kid that was at any of the nine schools, you'll know that they had a really good time. I was able to attend the second presentation of the Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Basics at Beatty last week. It was nice to see more people in attendance at that one. I think us talking about it at the meeting the day before helped. Jim and I also attended the Teacher of Excellence Recognition at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints last week. I want to congratulate John Smith at McKinley, Ryan Flynn at Smiley, Leslie Canales at Crafton, and Danielle Day at Lagonia, and Doug Porter at REV. Congratulations on all your recognition awards. Friday, April 15th, I was invited to the Spring Fling Dance at Moore. I met some really great staff members and enjoyed talking to students. I even danced the Cupid Shuffle with a group of kids. It was really fun. And Jim and I also sat in today on the smiley staff presentation by Juanita Watkins on equity and inclusion. It was an informative presentation and we really appreciated being invited so that we could hear it. And I want to remind everybody that PTA Teacher Appreciation Week will be coming up May 2nd through the 6th. And that is all I have.

SPEAKER_02 0:31:14

Thank you.

SPEAKER_07 0:31:16

Thank you.

SPEAKER_02 0:31:21

This week, no, not this week, last week, I attended the Citrus Valley pep rally and principal Maisie McHugh did an excellent job of starting the introduction and playing the keyboards. It was awesome to see how excited the students were. And even though it's a fun activity, the principal spent the time to learn a piece and learn how to play the piano. And I just thought that was awesome. Tomorrow, principals, administrators, it's Administrative Secretary's Day tomorrow, do not forget. And it was already mentioned, Teacher Appreciation Week is next week, so students, best gift card you can give a teacher right now is an Amazon card or a Starbucks card. They would really love that and enjoy it. So just be ready. Fun times ahead celebrating our secretaries and teachers.

SPEAKER_06 0:32:24

And if they can't afford to buy them something, a nice note from their students. Yes. Raise big dividends. So decorate it with a little bit of your artwork. Some nice things to say. Teachers love that, I know. All right. Thank you, Mr. Vara. So I wanted to also Congratulate a few people here. On behalf of the board, I want to take time to congratulate our superintendent for receiving the inaugural Dr. Margaret Hill Social Justice Award from the San Bernardino County Office of Education. He's been recognized for his leadership and actions in the area of equity and equality. And I know that Dr. Hill would be very proud to know that he is the first recipient of that distinguished award. So congratulations, Mauricio. I would also like to congratulate Garner Holt for his Lifetime Achievement Award from the TEA, which is the Themed Entertainment Association. They recently bestowed their top honor upon Garner during the gala three-day event at the Disneyland Resort. Nice place to have that. Our superintendent was also invited to attend and clap for this honor for him. You may or may not know that Garner Hole Productions is a significant education partner in our district, who's expanding STEAM labs, are enabling our students to have innovative experiences at several of our school sites already. And that number will go up. So we're very fortunate to have him and his company in Redlands as well. It was also brought to our attention that the Orangewood High School RISE eAcademy Campus Monitor, Mina Rangel, saved a choking child by performing the Heimlich Maneuver while on duty at lunchtime. Evidently, she noticed an eAcademy student in distress and immediately sprang into action. We are all extremely grateful for her heroic actions that prevented what could have turned into a very serious and tragic event. Mina's actions serve as a reminder that we all need to be vigilant when it comes to student care and student safety while they're in our care. So well done, Mina. Thank you so very much for being on it. Also, Michelle, you mentioned the the recognition that our teachers got at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I won't say that again, but I know that those teachers that were recognized for their effectiveness and dedication and their outstanding service to our students really are just a small representation of the exceptional teachers that work in our district. And I'm certainly glad that we can take time to at least begin to acknowledge them and their great representatives of that. I already mentioned about the student trustee positions, the resolutions we passed tonight honoring our employees and recognizing their hard work. We certainly appreciate them. And also yesterday was appreciation for our bus drivers. Was that yesterday? I believe it was, right? Today. It was today. So really, I haven't missed it yet. So I think it's been a tough year. for not only us finding bus drivers, but the bus drivers that we have are working their hardest to get our kids to school and do the field trips and everything that they do. And on behalf of the board, I certainly do appreciate, we certainly appreciate all of the work and the safety that you provide in transporting our students around the district. I will close by saying that during our closed session, it was the consensus of the board that the current safety protocols for volunteering in our schools will remain in effect as long as the governor's requirements for district employees remain in place. I have nothing further. So at this time, I would like to adjourn this meeting.
