And I am present. We have no public comment tonight, so I'm moving to item three on the agenda. Part A, seal of biliteracy recognition, Sonia Balinga, director English learners and parent engagement.

SPEAKER_11 0:01:14

Hello. Oh, good evening. Thank you for having us here this evening. I just want to say I'm so excited about all the buzz in this room. Very excited to be here. President O'Neill, distinguished board members, Superintendent Arellano, cabinet, and the community, thank you. Tonight we are going to celebrate our scholars for the State Seal of Illiteracy and our avid senior students. Next slide.

SPEAKER_12 0:01:47

If you're showing things on this slide, would you mind if we come down and join us? Absolutely. We can see it. All right, give us a minute.

SPEAKER_11 0:02:37

Okay, great.

SPEAKER_03 0:02:37

Thank you. All settled in.

SPEAKER_11 0:02:40

So the State Seal of Biliteracy, by definition, is our opportunity to recognize high school graduates who've attained a high level of proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in one or more languages in addition to English. The students or scholars this evening had criteria that they needed to meet. We look at test scores. We look at their proficiency. There are multiple ways that a student can attain the State Seal of Biliteracy, and these are some of those ways. Next slide. So there are many purposes and benefits of multilingualism. So I wanted to share some of those with you this evening. The State Seal of Biliteracy promotes language instruction and the study of languages. It also certifies a student's biliteracy, and in some cases that you'll see tonight, their tri-literacy. Multilingualism prepares students with 21st century skills. skills that they'll need in the job workforce. It also provides universities a method to recognize and give academic credit to applicants. We were able to help many of our students this year early in October by recognizing them, and we'll have a short video clip for you to see. It also strengthens intergroup relationships, values diversity, and honors the multiple beautiful languages and cultures within our district community.

SPEAKER_10 0:04:26

Next slide.

SPEAKER_11 0:04:29

So this past October, our county office launched the first ever seal of multiliteracy. So that's different from the state seal of biliteracy. Our county called it the seal of multiliteracy. And we were able to look at the criteria that I shared earlier and find students within our schools that were on the path to earning the state seal of biliteracy. We identified 106 seniors early on in October, and they were able to, if that was their path that they chose, add this as an award to show colleges or universities their bilingualism. So we have a short highlight video. We were selected. Redlands Unified School District was selected by the county and was highlighted at the county award. event in October. Video please.

SPEAKER_13 0:05:43

Well, it's a great opportunity for our students because the seal of biliteracy is given to them at the end of the school year. So the fact that the county is doing it in October, it means that the kids have the opportunity to put it in their college applications. And they're receiving the multiliteracy seal, and they're also able to put now that they're on the pathway to get the seal of biliteracy for the state.

SPEAKER_00 0:06:13

I moved from Brazil in 2018 and I was in middle school for like a semester and I didn't speak any English so I couldn't do my homework and my parents moved here specifically for my education so getting my grades up was like my primary goal.

SPEAKER_13 0:06:31

Redlands High School has piloted Avant testing for two years. We started looking into it because of the need of more languages. But because of the pandemic, that kind of got put on hold. And I was able to give the test to a handful of kids. But when the county said, oh, we're going to pay for it, I called my director. He's like, Guess what? The county's gonna pay for a van. That's when I got to work. It's like, okay, so now I can go through the list of my seniors, and if they have the English qualification, then I'm gonna check if they have a second language.

SPEAKER_00 0:07:07

I don't know what made me learn really fast but I really wanted to be independent and I didn't want to need other people's help to figure out my own life and everything and I've always been a straight A student and the fact that I couldn't understand a language was really hard for me. I'm actually president of International Club as well. During International Club we just present about other cultures, learn about other cultures. I think it's really nice to have a community of people that speak other languages that you can connect with because Feeling alone and in another country where you don't know the language is the most scariest thing I've ever done.

SPEAKER_13 0:07:42

It is a melting pot here and our high school is a great example of what that looks like.

SPEAKER_00 0:07:49

I'm really excited about the Seal of True Literacy because my goal is to go to a good college and major in kinesiology so I can go on to medical school. I'm just really excited with that opportunity. The fact that I can put that on my resume, that I speak three languages, it's such an advantage that I'm so glad I'm able to take. Thank you for the opportunity. Obrigado por oportunidades. Gracias por la oportunidad.

SPEAKER_10 0:08:34

Testing. There we go.

SPEAKER_11 0:08:36

UNKNOWN 0:27:04

All righty.

SPEAKER_07 0:27:34

Good evening. My name's Julie Swan, and I'm the director of secondary education. Very, very honored to be here tonight to see the students, the staff, the parents all together for this celebration of excellence for our AVID students. Thank you to the board for your unending, unwavering support of AVID. AVID is a program that we've had in the district for a while, and it has continued to be supported by our board. It is in our LCAP. And tonight, you are going to see the outcome of this stellar program. I'm going to first start by recognizing those who make this program happen. And that is our site coordinators at each one of the sites. So I'm going to ask you to stand up when I call your name, please. I'm going to start with Redlands East Valley, Jayna Bailey. Redlands High School, Jamie Ochoa. Citrus Valley, I have a coordinator, Sarah Keller. And her assistant coordinator, Becky Gidcombe. And last but never least, I want to recognize Luann Perry from Orange Wood.

SPEAKER_08 0:28:52

Oh, she's over there. I couldn't see it. All right. Can you dance, please?

SPEAKER_07 0:29:02

So we have a few things I have to brag about first, and that is that in Redlands, we have a national demonstration school, and that is Redlands East Valley High School. They attained this status in February of 2020, right before we shut down. They have also been a site of distinction for the last, well, it's actually six years.

SPEAKER_08 0:29:24

I have five because we haven't counted this year yet.

SPEAKER_07 0:29:26

for the last six years. Site of distinction, we also have at Cope Middle School. We have a program that starts actually now at, ooh, Jean, I forgot to ask, is it six? Six, six elementary schools. We expand every year. A school will jump on because they know the fabulousness of this program and move through middle school. We have Abbott at all four of our middle schools and then on to high school. Tonight, when we take a look at each one of our seniors, you'll see some of them that have been in the program for quite a while. We also do, often do training, model training for the county, and most importantly, for all of our teachers in the district. This last year, we had the Avid 6C training here at Redlands East Valley. It's the data next to it that I really wanted to brag about. As you can see, the power of the AVID program is supporting our students to higher and higher levels of success. And if you look at them in comparison just this last year, the rate of a C or better grade for our AVID students compared to those who are not in AVID is significantly higher. And we're very proud of that. So with that, I am done talking. And I'm going to start. I'm going to go ahead and advance this slide. So we're going to start with Orangewood.

SPEAKER_05 0:30:59

Yo. Since its inception six years ago, Orangewood Continuation High School has had a certified AVID program. And its success is due largely to the district and this school board's tremendous support of our program. So thank you. Rather than requiring every student to attend a four-year college or university, our focus has been to help our students see a future for themselves that they previously could not have envisioned. Through guest speakers, field trips, and interactive opportunities, these young people have been exposed to the possibilities that exist when they further their education. I know tonight our slides may look different. We might not have 4.0s. There's not a lot of AP classes or university acceptances. But I'll tell you what they do have. They have grit. They have perseverance. They have courage. Most of them have overcome more in their 17 or 18 years than many of us have in our entire lives. They've shown up every day and earned their credits and applied to community colleges while dealing with homelessness, being foster youth, having food insecurity, and dealing with the kinds of consequences of having attended a multitude of schools. Some are transgendered, some have anxiety, some have depression. There's a reason they're at Orange Wood, and it's not due to a lack of character, it's a lack of credits. Mostly due to the circumstances beyond their control. These kids are my heroes and I learn from them every day. Let me show you a couple of the opportunities they've had this year. This is some of our avid students. It's hard to take a whole class photo because we get new students every three weeks and we graduate students every three weeks. The highlight of our year was participating in the SOAR program up at Cedar Lake. This is a ropes course where they were challenged to let go of things in their past that were holding them down and leap forward to their new possibilities. Like one of our young men said, I feel like I can do anything now. Going to the University of Redlands, even though it's right here in town, was the first time many of our students ever set foot on a university campus. Crafton Hills Senior Day and the day at Valley Community College was very eye-opening, and they were given the opportunity to register for classes then and there. And of course, what's avid without tutorials? We've had a wide variety of speakers, including tattoo artists and welders and EMTs and cosmetologists and many, many more, just to show the different opportunities.

SPEAKER_04 0:33:57

So now I'd like you to help me recognize our seniors.

SPEAKER_05 0:34:00

August, would you go ahead and stand up? August will be attending Crafton Hills College. He ended up graduating early. He had an AAT in journalism. He's been involved in leadership, AVID. He's our site representative on school site council. And he's been writing for the Student Journalism Ethic News. Thank you, August. Alexis, go ahead and stand up. Alexis will be attending Concord University because she wants to become a surgical technician, and I'm confident she'll be doing that with blind colors. I'm sorry, I couldn't read what it said up there. John Adu. John is enrolled at Riverside City College, and he will be studying nursing. He is also a key member of our basketball team. Aurora Stewart. She is also already enrolled for the fall semester at Crafton Hills College, and she plans on transferring to Cal State Monterey Bay. And she was awarded the Fairwaring Fred Waring Director's Award for Chorus in 2018. Savannah's not here tonight because she was such an early graduate, but she is also going to Riverside Community College. She wants to transfer ultimately to Loma Linda University. Sandy Martinez is also pre-enrolled at Crafton Hills College and plans to transfer to Cal State San Bernardino and studying art. Isaiah Dennis, there's a picture of Isaiah, go ahead and stand and say, who was our Rotary Student of the Month. He's planning on studying business at Valley Community College. And Tanisha Armstrong. Tani was Orangewood's first place winner in the Avid write-off, and she already has her California food handler certificate and is planning on attending University of Redlands in art and animation. Definitely not least is Johnny Dominguez. who is another early graduate planning on attending Riverside City College.

SPEAKER_04 0:37:16

In the STEM program, that's right. Thank you.

SPEAKER_05 0:37:24

Thank you very much.

SPEAKER_09 0:37:42

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Sarah Keller and this is Becky Gidcomb. We will be your presenters tonight for Citrus Valley AVID. We are very excited to be here in this particular group. When they started in 2018 I was actually on maternity leave and taking over as coordinator So it wasn't even there for about the first month and a half and they came back and I was super sleep deprived So when these kids say they have a special place for me in their heart It's probably good and bad cuz man when you're on maternity leave with no sleep They just they loved on me extra hard and we got through it together and it was a really big adventure and we have some interesting stories from those freshman year, so I To say that I've seen these kids grow from ninth grade all the way to seniors is the first time I've been able to do that, and I absolutely love it. But before we get into talking about them, I just wanted to say that because I didn't have that part written down anywhere. We do want to share out some of what we have done this year. So that first slide, what did I do? Am I doing it? You didn't do it. Where's it going? Just keep going. Just keep going.

UNKNOWN 0:38:46

OK.

SPEAKER_09 0:38:48

Now I'm going off, OK. All right, well, the first slide actually was a, yes, see, we do do data. When we came back to school, all of us can say it was an unprecedented time. So we needed to make sure that we knew what our staff needed so that we could meet the needs of our students. And we did that by taking a few surveys and checking in with everyone. And we're going to use that data next year to sort of continue to drive our instruction as we go forward with AVID school-wide. This year, the true vision was just to make sure that everyone remembered what WICAR was and how we can support all students and staff with that. Did you want to add anything to that? No? OK. Now we can go to the cool pictures. You want to talk about that one?

SPEAKER_03 0:39:31

I don't even know what's happening.

UNKNOWN 0:39:34

Oh, OK.

SPEAKER_09 0:39:35

We are a team. It does happen. Okay, so as far as field trips, in college-going culture, we were able to take several field trips. Second semester, we went to Cal State Fullerton, where I actually graduated from, as well as Knott's Berry Farm after. We went to Cal Baptist University in Riverside and did John's Incredible Pizza to build our sense of community. And the more trips that we did like that, the more buy-in we got from the students, which as you all know this year was extra challenging. So those field trips really helped build rapport in our avid family. And we also did the 66ers game. Let's see. Okay. I don't know, can somebody click on the link that is at the top that says recruitment? Because we had some of our avid babies make a recruitment video that is absolutely fabulous. We would love to share with you. It's only like two minutes. Now that we know the sound works, let's go Baratists. Maybe? Hopefully? Yes. They used fake names.

SPEAKER_02 0:40:52

Hey, the name's Jonathan. I've been a part of the AVID program for about three years now, and I can honestly say it's one of the better decisions I made in my high school career.

SPEAKER_10 0:41:02

Hi, my name is Chloe. I've been in AVID since I was in sixth grade. Hi, my name is Taylor. This is my third year in the AVID program.

SPEAKER_00 0:41:10

Hi, my name is Jada, and I've been in AVID for three years.

SPEAKER_10 0:41:12

And I'm going to tell you, this is not your typical class.

SPEAKER_02 0:41:16

My favorite aspect about Abbott is that it gives students the chance to grow, collaborate and study when it comes to achieving their goals of higher education.

SPEAKER_10 0:41:25

Through AVID, I was able to apply to scholarships and learn about new colleges.

SPEAKER_11 0:41:28

And hear what it's like to be on campus.

SPEAKER_10 0:41:31

And even get free applications! Tutorials, while some were unneeded, in other cases they saved my brains. Being able to ask questions about problems that I'm struggling with is a great help when you apply them to tests. I enjoy being around like-minded students who always encourage me to get to where I deserve to be.

SPEAKER_02 0:41:50

The AVID program creates some of the most diligent hardworking, successful students on any high school campus. And if you want to go to college, whether it's straight to a four year or the community college, then.

SPEAKER_10 0:42:01

And you should definitely join AVID. Come and get that extra help on the math test. Come and see how to apply for financial aid. And come and get that extra motivation.

SPEAKER_02 0:42:14

Come and join us in being proud to say that.

SPEAKER_10 0:42:17

I am an AVID student. I am an AVID student. I am an avid student.

UNKNOWN 0:42:23

No!

SPEAKER_02 0:42:24

We are avid students!

SPEAKER_09 0:42:51

Before we move on to the actual seniors, one of the other things that I do want to share with you folks is something that we have uniquely at Citrus Valley. We have partnered with the Rochford Program through the University of Redlands. Those of you that don't know about Rochford, the Rochford Foundation, I'm not originally from Redlands, so it was quite interesting for me to learn about, but they started a program at the middle school level. And they select students, hand-select them, and interview them through the Rochford Foundation, much the way that we do with the AVID students. And when they are finished with the Rochford program that includes extra mentoring, family workshops, extra tutoring, they do community service planning to make the community better. Once they finish from sixth grade all the way through 12th, they have an annual $30,000 scholarship waiting for them at the University of Redlands. So they've determined that AVID is a great partnership for them as well. And so we're very honored to have all of the Rochford, except for one baby. Shout out to the Rev baby at Citrus with us as well. So without further ado, we would love to introduce the class of 2022 to you. And since Becky has all of the seniors this year, I'm going to give her a second to talk about some of these things up here.

SPEAKER_06 0:44:12

All right. So I know you're short. It's OK. It's OK. Okay, so all of our babies, I hate calling you guys babies because you're all young adults and I'm so very proud of all your accomplishments, but all of them were accepted to college this year. We had nearly $675,000 in scholarships, so free money to go to college. So we're very pleased with that because it's one thing to get into college, but we have to be able to pay for it, and you guys have done an amazing job getting those scholarships, earning that money, and we're very proud of that. We were able to host our RIMS Avid recognition ceremony. We held it in our bistro. Thank you very much Michelle for coming. We served brunch, we cheered, we celebrated, and it brought back A lot of good feels for me because we've missed out on those things over the past few years. And I was so honored that you all showed up and we had a great time. It was fantastic. Well, that's a whole different story. Okay, so let's introduce our seniors. That's what we're here for.

SPEAKER_05 0:45:29

All right.

SPEAKER_06 0:45:31

First up is Emma Ainsworth. So Emma was accepted to a very wide range of universities. She's going to be going to Cal State San Bernardino. She has a GPA of 4.3. She's always been on Honor Roll, and she has been, I forgot what I was going to say, oh my gosh, Compact Club, thank you. A member of Compact Club the whole time? Two years, three years. Oh yeah, we want to talk about that. Okay, but yeah, so here is Emma. We are very proud of you. Congratulations. Next up we have Sabrina. Sabrina's been an avid for all four years. She's worked extremely hard, and she was accepted and will be attending University of Redlands in the fall. She has done a CP pathway. She has done dual enrollment. She has been volunteering this whole time. And so we're very proud of you and wish her the best. Jennifer, please stand. So on a little side note, Jennifer is probably one of the seniors that you can hear in the hallways. She's an amazing leader. And it has been a privilege to have her in the class. She'll be going to Cal State San Bernardino. We're very excited for her for that. She was a basketball captain. She's just done so many amazing things for us. And does this say what you're going to be studying in there? Business, right? Yeah. Entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship, yes.

SPEAKER_05 0:47:33

All right, congratulations.

SPEAKER_06 0:47:35

OK, next up is Alex. So Alex, he's kind of the quiet, one of the quiet ones in class, but he's pretty funny. Don't let him fool you. He'll be going to Cal State San Bernardino in the fall. He's been an avid for four years. And you were on honor roll almost the whole time? Almost the whole time of high school. We're very proud of you. Congratulations.

SPEAKER_16 0:48:08

My name is Kara.

SPEAKER_06 0:48:09

What's her stage name? I forgot already. So I have lots of, when you've been in AVID at the same high school over and over, you tend to have a lot of siblings, and so she's one of our siblings. So she will be attending Chafee College. She applied to several universities, but we decided that Chafee was her best bet. She has been an honor student. She's been in AVID since seventh grade. Sixth grade. So definitely has been putting in the time in AVID. She's volunteered. She's played basketball. She's played softball. And we're very excited to see where she ends up. Congratulations. Hey, Ethan. Ethan. No cap. It's been really nice to get to know Ethan. This is the first time he's been in my AVID class. He has applied to many colleges, but he'll be attending Orange Coast College this fall. Marine biology, that's correct. He was one of our video people, and we didn't get that video into the thing, but it was really entertaining. I really enjoyed that. He's been a delight to have in class, and I'm really excited for your future.

SPEAKER_02 0:49:30

Congratulations.

SPEAKER_06 0:49:39

Did the twins make it?

SPEAKER_09 0:49:41

They're fired.

SPEAKER_06 0:49:43

OK. Well, yeah. So we have our twins.

SPEAKER_09 0:49:46

Are we? Yeah.

SPEAKER_06 0:49:49

So Natalie is going to be attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, correct? San Luis Obispo in the fall. Yeah, so we gave out paper plate awards, and she got an award that said she'd be most likely to live on Takis, ramen, and bang, except for she's going into nutrition. So I'm not sure how that's going to work, but I have the utmost confidence that she'll do amazing things up there at Cal Poly. Congratulations. Miss Cooley. So Miss Kaylee has, she's got a lot up there, you can see. She's been involved in AVID all four years. She's been part of the National Charity League, so she's done lots of community service. She's been a KJ, Kimberly Juniors, color guard, DIY club. She has done amazing things all throughout her high school career, and she'll be attending Grand Canyon University in the fall. We're so excited for you. Alexandra. Oh, Alexandra, before I forget again, I have a certificate for you.

SPEAKER_05 0:51:19

I keep forgetting to give it to you. Ask me tomorrow. OK.

SPEAKER_06 0:51:22

So this is Alexandra. Alexandra will be attending Crafton Hills. She was accepted pretty much everywhere she applied. But at the end of the day, sometimes we have to do what's best for us. But we are super excited for her to be attending college and then transferring into a four-year after her two years. She's done all kinds of honors classes. What is your GPA? It's high. It is just 4.9. Awesome. We are so very proud of you. Congratulations. Ms. Jacey. Voted best smile, right? Look at that smile. So Jacey has been in marching band. She's doing all kinds of things with music. She's very talented. She's been an avid for four years. She was our avid treasurer. She applied and was accepted pretty much everywhere she attended, everywhere she applied. Spit it out. She'll be attending CBU in the fall, and she will be majoring in elementary education. And yeah, definitely teacher material. Congratulations. Miss Valerie. So Ms. Valerie B. attending says up there, Cal State San Bernardino, she's been an avid for seven years. She's done CTE pathways. She's been all over doing all kinds of really great stuff at Citrus. She will be attending, like I said, Cal State San Bernardino, my major, biology. So if you ever need help, hey. Or avid tutor. All right, we are very proud of you. Congratulations. Miss Sierra. So in addition to teaching AVID, I also taught various sciences. And Sierra was one of my biology students many, many moons ago. Six years in AVID, majoring. She's going to be going to Crafton Hills. She's going to major in criminal justice. And she, does it say it there? Yeah, so she's kind of into this whole criminal justice thing. I see her like a future FBI agent, maybe, somewhere down the road. With that outfit, yeah, she's looking fierce. But we're very proud of you, and I think you're going to do amazing things. Congratulations.

SPEAKER_05 0:53:52

Miss Soraya.

SPEAKER_06 0:53:58

So Miss Sariah, she's been in AVID for six years. She has done all kinds of volunteer time. She applied to some four-year universities and was accepted, but she's chosen to go to Crafton Hills and then transfer to Cal State San Bernardino in her future. Congratulations. Miss Gabby. I think she did I don't know what did you win? Oh Yeah, that's right, that's right most likely to lose a lottery ticket So miss Gabby here is she's played softball. She's been an avid All four years. Yep And you can see she applied to a lot of universities, has accepted a lot of places, but at the end of the day, she's choosing Valley College for now and then transferring onto a four-year. I think she's going to be doing amazing things over there. So we're real proud of you. Mr. Veritas. So apparently, he's a little popular. He was our avid president and compact club president.

SPEAKER_18 0:55:21

just in Combat Club.

SPEAKER_06 0:55:23

So we've gotten to know him a little bit over the years. He's also Mr. Musical. He will be attending Berklee College of Music. He was accepted to a lot of really cool places, but he wants to follow his passion with music, and so we know he's going to do some amazing, amazing things. We're so proud of him.

SPEAKER_05 0:55:44

And then our other Gabby.

SPEAKER_06 0:55:50

Just a side note about Gabby, she's always late. OK. But Gabby, we love Gabby. OK, so Gabby actually will be attending Midwest Nazarene University. Did I almost get it? I'm in America at Nazarene University. She'll be playing softball there. So she was actually our first to commit. We're super excited and super proud of her. She's been an avid forever. She's played softball, obviously. She wants to major in psychology, minor in communications. And I know she's going to knock it out of the park.

UNKNOWN 0:56:30

Hey.

SPEAKER_06 0:56:30

Hey. We're here all night. Yeah, we are. Congratulations. So this is David David is not here tonight, but David got a basically a full ride to Vanguard University We won't see where he is right now Haley So Haley is another avid four-year student. She's been in Compact Club. She's been instrumental in keeping that program. She and Emma both keeping that program alive and well on our campus. She'll be attending UCLA. She's doing all right. She did all right. But you can see she's done a lot up there. She's been our AP Bio calculus. All the APs. Yeah, all the APs.

UNKNOWN 0:57:34

4.4?

SPEAKER_06 0:57:34

4? Oh, I'm sorry.

UNKNOWN 0:57:40

4.5, 4.6.

SPEAKER_06 0:57:42

Anyway, we are super. Oh, she was also our AVID winner for the RIMS AVID scholarship, so she'll be getting some money to go to UCLA. Super happy. Thank you. Miss Jaylene. So Jaylene was earlier recognized for her seal of biliteracy. Jaylene has been an avid all four years?

SPEAKER_16 0:58:12

Two years. Really?

SPEAKER_06 0:58:15

Oh, because you're my biology student. See what happens? Yeah. She has been in ASB as well. She's been really instrumental in keeping ASB working this year. She was part of our LCAP committee this year. She played softball. She's been in link career. She's done so many wonderful, amazing things. And she'll be attending University of Redlands in the fall as well. Mr. Joshua. Another seal of biliteracy, Erner tonight as well. Joshua comes to my desk pretty much every day. Can I go to the band room? Can I go to the band room? He's very musical as well. We're very proud of him for that. He will be attending Crafton Hills and then transferring to a four-year. Avid all four years, some APs. You've done well, son. Congratulations. Is that Celeste? Celeste. So Celeste, another basketball player, another avid all four years, right? She did, like I said, basketball. She was the manager for basketball as well. She was accepted to Grand Canyon and NAU. Where are we going? Oh, just community. Oh, we don't know which community yet. OK, not just community college. We're going community, and then we're going to transfer, right? That's right.

SPEAKER_05 0:59:58

This has been just one of those nights.

SPEAKER_06 1:00:01

Yeah, we just didn't see it. Sorry. Anyway, we are super proud of you, and you'll do amazing things. Miss Jada. So talk about siblings. We had a few siblings. So this is Jada. Jada will be attending Cal State San Bernardino in the fall. She's done a lot of different things. She's accepted to several universities, but Cal State seems to be the one that fits the best. She's been an avid for six years. She's been on the honor roll. She has worked so hard to get here, and we are so very proud of her. Miss Maya. So when my environmental science kids come on, they see Maya Zima on the board, and there was all these colleges that she was accepted to. And they kept waiting and watching the colors turn as she got accepted to pretty much every place that she applied to. But she is going to be attending UNLV in the fall. We're super excited for her. OK. Congratulations. Andrea. So Andrea, she applied to several universities, including the University of Redlands, but she's going to be attending Valley College. She's done a lot of community service. She's been doing a lot of things on campus, really maintaining her GPA the whole time. And we are super excited to see where she ends up after community college. Congratulations. Elvie.

SPEAKER_05 1:01:44

Stand, Miss Larissa.

SPEAKER_06 1:01:51

Okay, so Larissa, it has been a pleasure to get to know her because she's really funny and she dresses nice apparently. That was her award. She will be attending Cal State San Marcos and she will be studying business and marketing and I'm pretty sure she'll take the business world by storm when she gets there. She did soccer, link crew, volleyball, avid, and I think you're gonna do amazing things. Real proud of you. So Miss Mariana is going to be attending Cal State San Bernardino. We applied to several places. It's been, again, she's another sibling and biology student. So some of these students I've known over and over, and it's been really amazing to watch her grow into the young women that she's becoming. And one little notable thing, one thing that impressed me is she formed her own club, a service club on campus. And even through COVID and all the unprecedented times, she was still out there doing food drives and delivering food and stuff to the shelters, so we're part of that. Ms. Makayla. Oh, boy.

SPEAKER_09 1:03:17

Last but not least, Makayla. When I met Michaela in Avid 9, she was in, I want to say, was it yearbook? That was your thing that year? Yeah, yep. She was real worried about yearbook and she was into golfing. Was freshman year due golf too? All year, yep, okay, so we had yearbook, we had golfing, we had avid. She was a little bit on the quiet side and she has absolutely blossomed. I wouldn't say she's as loud as Jennifer. Never be as loud as Jennifer, but you've definitely come into your own and this year she's also been my TA and helping peer tutor. We're really excited for her to attend Cal State San Bernardino in the fall. And it's truly been a pleasure to watch you grow. And don't forget where we are. And please come visit us again. Tutor. Yeah, a tutor. So varsity softball, oh my gosh. Golf, CBL finalist for golf. You were a big fan hit at some of the rallies this year.

SPEAKER_03 1:04:15

So that was a lot of fun.

SPEAKER_09 1:04:17

I was like, oh my god, I actually know that one. So that was great. So congratulations, Michaela.

SPEAKER_14 1:04:50

Good evening. Good evening members of the board, President Jim O'Neill, and Superintendent Mauricio Arellano. Thank you for all of your support throughout the years. Thank you for all of your support throughout the years in helping our program grow. This year our program has grown to the biggest senior class that we've had throughout all of our AVID certification at Robins High School. Here you see 36 seniors, and we are excited to have a new administrator onto our team. He was up here earlier presenting our Seal of Biliteracy, Mr. Vincent Gutierrez, and we thank you for your support, Vince, all this year. The RHS AVID program graduates 36 seniors who I'm thrilled to say are all going to college. We are happy to add a new elective teacher. Our newest ninth grade elective teacher is Mrs. Saraica Herro. And we maintained five college tutors as difficult as it was to recruit. We have tutors from Crafton Hills College, UC Riverside, and Cal Baptist University. Some of our highlights this year, we hosted college month, which we've been which we've been hosting since 2017. Even throughout the pandemic, we kept College Month going on virtually, but we're excited to have various activities in person on campus. We did a root beer float social, we had a college fair that our 10th graders put on for some of our underclassmen at RHS. And we went on various field trips. Some of you are here who went on the AVID Overnighter up to our road trip to San Francisco and back down. We went to USC and saw a Clippers game on AVID night. And we went to the 66ers game for Education Day just a few weeks ago. And the freshmen and sophomores just visited the University of Redlands and did the low ropes course last week. Some other highlights. Part of our community service on campus was to build a rock garden in our cafeteria, our multipurpose room. We also did community service with Redlands Family Services, doing a food drive as well as adopt a family for Christmas and Thanksgiving. Our future endeavors include growing our program even more. And I'm so proud to say that our numbers have gone up Significantly, even for next year, our retention rate, our senior class growth from this year to next year will be 36 to 51 seniors. Junior class growth is from 56 to 64. So we're very excited about that. Our site team of staff members is growing, and we continue to train our RHS staff in WICR activities and continue college month. activities as well as keep our field trips going on. We'd like to thank our principal for including our overnighter in the SIPSA.

SPEAKER_08 1:22:46

Good evening members of the board, President O'Neill, Superintendent Arellano. The last time we were able to gather with our AVID seniors was in 2019. And in a few days, those students will be seniors in college. So we are thrilled to be able to bring our kids back to you. They have done some amazing things this year. The resilience they've shown over the last couple of years due to COVID has been outstanding. A couple of things. First of all, Luanne, I'm so incredibly impressed by what you do with Orange Wood. It's absolutely fantastic. Your students are amazing. And I think you're still the only continuation school in all the nation, and yet you still continue to push forward. And these kids believe, and they're going to do great things in life. So thank you for that. You're a blessing. Citrus Valley and RHS, you guys have been a part of this program for 10 years at least, and you guys continue to make progress every single year. And your kids are very proud to be a part of something as special as this. So great job. It's not easy work, but you do it, and we appreciate you. So a couple of things. So these are some statistics we usually share with you. We have 12 sections, five avid elective teachers, 15% of our population. Our attendance rate is 98%. Really important things to look at. 34% of our students took an AP course this year. 29% dual enrollment. And as of tonight, 17% earned Seal of Biliteracy awards. We had 59% of them on free and reduced lunch. And 62% are in at least their third year of AVID or more. So these are students who are dedicated to a program. They have to do binder checks every week. They have to do tutorials every week. They are not in love with them. But they do it because they realize that there's a better purpose. So fun fact, we had a WASP review this year. And the leaders of those WASP review, they were so impressed by the things that were going on in the AVID program that they started following us on Instagram. So we're feeling kind of famous right now. A couple of other things that our seniors did this year is we created video projects, and the senior class chose to do projects on Adulting 101. So if I mention the topic, please stand. We did a project on how to establish good credit. Stand up if you did that video. How to change a tire. My son was stuck in Philadelphia at two o'clock in the morning, so I'm really glad that you guys made that video, because I'll be sending that to him on YouTube next time it happens. Managing your mental health as a young adult. Stand, please. How to cook on a budget. And how to earn a bag. Bag meaning money. That's the term. That's the term. OK. So they did this knowing that these videos will be going school-wide so that other students can learn about situations that we need to learn in the high school level. Our freshmen were focusing mostly on heritage and something that's their passion. And they're trying to teach everybody else and then what you can do with that knowledge. Some other fun facts. Our goal this year was Focus Notes school-wide. And we were involved with the entire faculty. We have the math department that has adopted Focus Notes strips, which is a really big deal. 85% of our seniors are receiving some form of scholarships or grant. And it totals up to $1.14 million from this senior class alone. So give it up for them. In March, Superintendent Arellano, Wagner, and the Superintendent of San Bernardino County, Ted Alejandre, came to visit us, and that was a huge deal, because I don't know that he's ever been to our school in the last few years, so we were honored to have them there, and our seniors were there to guide them along throughout the day. We also used a GIS app for our field trips. The teachers got trained at the district office and so when the students went on their field trips on the overnighter and the one in March, they basically just used their phones and they were told where they needed to go check out and then they took selfies of each other and it downloaded onto an app for us. So that was a lot of fun. Thank you for the training everybody. We appreciate that. Last thing in regards to fun facts our seniors create a newsletter every month and The newsletter that you've been given tonight has a QR code that has our avid awards night banquet information all the schools that the kids are going to college with and on the backside it has a QR code of the Amazing senior video not not senior video, but the overnighter Video that Miss Gomez made the seniors are working on a video right now We're going to have that on Thursday night. So all are welcome to show and Oh, you may go to the next one. Thank you. So, some accomplishments. You see up there, we kind of already covered that. We'll go on to the next one. In regards to scholarships, we had three RIMS Avid Scholar winners. Ladies, please stand up. Angelica, Audrey, and Maddie. We have 13 Rev. Abbott scholarship winners. They don't know who they are yet, but we will find out on May 31st. But these are all donations that are given from our former students and former families who give to our programs so that our seniors have a better chance at having money when they get off to college. We have two students who are going full ride on athletic scholarships. Will you please stand? We'll talk about them later. And we have four who are going on partial scholarships. So will you please stand? All right. So this year, we have a few more students going to community college than we have in the past. And mainly, the reason is COVID was a huge hit on people's savings accounts. And some students have to bear the responsibility of their financial aid. So if the schools didn't offer enough, they're going to be planning to go to the JC and transfer to a four-year. Because they've been in the out of program for so long, there's no way they're going to get stuck in that system. Like some kids do, they have the habits. They know what they need to do. They're going to transfer in a timely fashion. They will get that college degree. We also have other students who are pursuing athletics at the local JC because they have that passion, they want to continue forward with that. We also have students who want to go straight for their passion, going to EMT, cosmetology, so we want to support that because that's their future. But one thing I'm really impressed by is even though we have a few more students going to the JC, a lot of them are going still away to those JC's, so they're still getting that experience of being away from home so they will still grow as young adults. All right, so let's start with our seniors. We have Audrey Rodriguez. First in her family to go to college, three years in AVID. She's a senior leader. We're starting with all of our senior leaders and historians. Five AP courses, six honors classes. Her highest GPA was last year at a 4.8 academic GPA. She made revs on her court. She's the Rims-Aven winner that we just announced. She'll be attending the U of R in the fall, and she's earning $124,000 over the course of four years. Aiden Hernandez. Six years in AVID, senior leader, ASB for two years, senior class vice president, volleyball for four years, was a captain, also on the varsity team for three years. He got accepted to all the colleges he applied to with three APs, two dual enrollments. He was offered money to attend a four-year college, but he is one of those students who's going to be expected to pay for his own college degree. So he will be attending Crafton Hills College in the fall and transfer. Cameron Axelrod has been an avid for seven years, a senior leader. He led the recruitment rally as a ninth grader, our very first recruitment rally. He was on the volleyball team, Varsity, for three years of the four years he was on it. He's a lead swim instructor at YMCA, and he's been working there for a year. He got accepted to CBU, and he'll be going to Orange Coast Community College, where they have a volleyball team, and that's where he's pursuing. Dakota Gleason. Dakota is the first in her family to go to college, six years in AVID, historian and senior leader, two APs, two dual enrollment classes, 2,000 plus hours of community service. She is in the business of saving animals. She is part of the Guardian Angel Pet Rescue. And that's what she wants to do with her future. She wants to become a vet. She was accepted to six of the four-year colleges she applied to. Each college offered her money for school. She's going to be attending Mt. SAC in the fall. They have a better feel for the program that she wants to go into and that she'd like to transfer. Savannah Barajas. Savannah has been in the program for three years. She's a historian. She's first in her generation to go to college. Her sister's actually graduating in a couple of weeks. She's been playing softball for 12 years, eight years of clubball, three years of varsity. She got power hitter of the year. She took two AP courses, two dual enrollment classes, three honors courses, a 3.5 academic GPA. She got accepted to 11 colleges. She's been in AVID for four years. She's a junior leader and senior historian, four years of softball, three years of varsity, Lean Crew for one year. She's taken two APs, two dual enrollment courses, accepted to 10 four-year colleges, and she earned a softball scholarship to Central Arizona College. Sierra Style. We're loving the green hair and we love her laugh. There we go. She's first in her generation to go to college. Her older brother was one of our tutors. Four years in AVID. She's an historian. Three years in the drama department. She's also been a tech for the same amount of years. She's taken one AP course, two dual enrollment courses. She got accepted to all eight of the out-of-state colleges she applied to, but she also got accepted to UC Merced and Sac State. She'll be attending Oregon State University in the fall with $16,200. Tanya Andrade. Tanya's been in the program for four years. She's the first in her family to go to a four-year college. She's fluent, has taken AP Spanish, a 3.3 academic GPA. She just told me today that she was Rotary Student of the Month, so congratulations for that. For college acceptances, she'll be attending Cal State San Bernardino in the fall. She wants to be a teacher. She also has earned $8,543 in grants. Leslie Ayala. Leslie's been in the program for four years. She's first generation. Her older sister graduated in 2014 within the AVID program. She was a historian, and she was a leader, link crew for one year, one AP course, two dual enrollment courses. She is eligible for CSF for two semesters, accepted to five colleges, will be attending UC Riverside in the fall with $15,500 in scholarships and grants. Brandon best He would like me to remind you that he has a really lovely smile, and he's very charismatic and charming But he does he's really a lot of fun to be in be in class three years of avid He earned the seal of biliteracy earlier tonight been on the track and field team for two years and part of the HEAL Club, and he's been working at Tilly's all this time. He's taken four AP courses, one dual enrollment class, accepted to nine colleges, including Pepperdine, which is giving him on the tuition exchange program for $51,910. But his passion is to potentially be a paramedic or a firefighter, so he's going to go into EMT certification school in Los Angeles. So, Brandon Best. Timothy Blake Berry. So we had the honor of getting Blake this year. This is his first year in AVID, but he's not new to AVID because his auntie was in the program in 2007. I think mom's in the house. Hi, mom. So anyways, he's first generation. OK, thank you. BSU, very much involved in BSU, and they raised about, they collect around 400 books. Excuse me. And one thing about Blake is he's very honest and he is very much a contributor of our Socratic seminars. So he's also part of the LCAP committee on the wrestling team, on the track team for three years, seven AP courses. 4.4 academic GPA, nine college acceptances. He was even given a full ride to FAMU, a historically black college. He got accepted to Howard, an historically black college. He'll be attending University of La Verne, earning $120,500 over the course of four years. Eileen Carrillo. She's been in the program for six years, three AP classes, four honors classes, fluent in Spanish, 3.8 academic GPA, accepted to five colleges, attending Cal State San Bernardino in the fall, and she got into the nursing program there, which is a huge deal. So she'll be earning a Cal Grant and a Pell Grant. Give it up for Eileen. Piavee Fitzpatrick. Piave has been in the program for four years. He's also been part of the basketball program for four years. He was on the track and field team for three years. He's the senior captain. He's one of our fastest runners on the team. In fact, he was running at the CIF finals on the 4x400 relay team just last weekend. So that's how far they went. He earned second place overall in CVL in the 4x100 relay. He's been accepted to seven colleges. He'll be attending RCC in the fall for track, and then he'll transfer to a four-year college, and he'll be the first in his family to attend a four-year college. Alex Garcia. So Alex's older brother, Santos, was in our program, class of 2019. And he encouraged Santos to join the program. So he came as a junior. And he had a little bit of a slow start. But this last year, he's really done a great job of improving. He's probably one of our most improved students. And I'm really proud of what you've been able to do. He'll be the first in his generation to go to a four-year college. He took AP US History. He was accepted to five colleges, and like his brother, he'll be attending Cal Baptist in the fall with $28,000 per year, majoring in computer science. Destiny's been in the program for six years. She was part of the Wildcats for Change. Thank you. One AP course, two dual enrollment courses, honor roll for three years, five college acceptances. She'll be attending Vanguard University in the fall majoring in nursing with $31,965 per year. Did I say she earned the seal of biliteracy as well tonight? Did I say that? And are you first in your family, Destiny?

SPEAKER_10 1:41:04

All right, we love that.

SPEAKER_08 1:41:06

Ashley Hernandez, Osorio. Ashley's been in the program for seven years. She's first generation. She also earned her seal of biliteracy tonight. She was on the badminton team for three years. This is the first year you guys beat RHS, maybe, and Loma Linda. And did you guys become CVL champions this year? First time in many, many years, so congratulations, that's a big deal. She was on the varsity team as well. She's taken five AP courses, five honors courses. She's been part of CSF, high GPA, five college acceptances, will be attending University of La Verne with $48,000 per year. Angelica Herrera. Angelica will be the first in her family to go to college. She's been in the AVID program for seven years. She's taken three AP courses, one honors class, has maintained a 3.36 academic GPA. She was also part of our varsity soccer team, has been part of club soccer for a number of years. One thing I'd like to mention is that Angelica lost her father to COVID earlier this year. And despite that, she still came to school. And she still kept her AP courses. She still kept her dual enrollment class. She still persisted. And that's what's going on with a lot of our kids this year as they continue to persist. They're resilient, like Luanne said. They have the grit. So Angelica, I'm sorry to mention that, but you know I am so proud of you for everything that you've done this year. She'll be going. I didn't mention that Angelica is going to Cal State San Marcos with $8,637 per year. Gabby Inlow will be first in her family to go to college. She's been in AVID for four years. She was part of the assistants for three. Link Crew for one took two dual enrollment classes, earned a 3.8 academic GPA, was accepted to seven four-year colleges, and will be attending UC Riverside in the fall. One thing I can say about Gabby and Maddie, if I need something done, it's done perfectly. So just giving you that nod there. Oh, and Maddie's next, Madison Kelly. So Madison Kelly's also the first in her family to go to college. She's one of our RIMS Avid Scholarship winners. Seven years in the Avid program, three AP courses, two dual enrollment classes, 3.8 academic GPA, while working a job. She got accepted to three colleges, and she'll be attending U of R in the fall, majoring in business finance with $55,328 per year. Did I say that right? Mia Long. I'm waiting for the smile. There you go. OK. Mia has been in the program for four years. She's played soccer for 14. Nine of them were club, three years on the varsity soccer team. She was the captain of her team. She took two AP courses, two dual enrollment courses, 3.6 academic GPA, also while working at the YMCA. She was accepted to seven colleges, including Cal State Long Beach, and she will be attending Greenville University in Illinois on a soccer scholarship, $20,500 per year. Adrian Martin. We're fortunate to have the entire Martin family in AVID. Nancy was a few years ahead, and we also have your younger brother. He's gonna be the first in his generation to go to a four-year college. He's been in the program for six years. He was a junior leader. He's someone who always has a smile on his face. He's always positive. He's been working since he was 16 while he took three AP courses, and he'll be attending Colorado Mesa in the fall with a Pell Grant of $6,495, and he would love to be an anesthesiologist. Bella McNeil. I was fortunate to have Bella's older sister in the AVID program. I tell you that family has just the best energy ever. I would, you know, love to be friends, best friends with your parents. I mean, they're the coolest. So two years in AVID, she's an historian and part of assisting. She was in tennis for four years, varsity for two, took two AP courses, dual enrollment, two ROP courses, academic GPA of a 3.5, for college acceptances and will be attending Dixie State in the fall and working on nursing. Samara Montero. Samara's been in the program for seven years, two dual enrollment courses while working, two college acceptances. She's going to be attending Crafton in the fall, and she wants to major in psychology. And when she transfers to a four-year, she'll be the first in her family to go to college. Chloe Moore. Chloe's been in the avid program for four years, also in volleyball for four years. Varsity, this last year, six weeks, oh, so two weeks every summer, she goes to the country of Tonga, and she does community service there for two straight weeks at a time, and she works in hospitals. And so I think that's an amazing thing that she does, giving up her summertime and helping other people, and gosh, I wish I knew a little bit more about that because that sounds amazing. She's taken five AP courses, two dual enrollment classes, 3.9 academic GPA, five college acceptances, will be attending UC Riverside in the fall with $19,000 worth of grants. She'll be majoring in biochemistry. She wants to be a doctor. Madison Munoz. I was fortunate to have her older brother a number of years ago. She's the first in her generation to go to a four-year college. She's been in Abbott for five years. She is also part of St. Mary's Ballet folklorico. Folklorico. Folklorico. Say it. Folklorico. Folklorico. We were practicing this, and I still messed up. I apologize. For eight years. A dance company for eight years that she's very passionate about. She took three AP courses, two dual enrollment courses, seven honors classes. earned a 3.5 academic GPA, eight college acceptances. She'll be attending Cal State San Bernardino in the fall with a Pell Grant and a Cal Grant totaling $8,315. She's also applying for the Air Force ROTC program. Going into the military has always been a really big deal for her. Your older brother is in the military, correct? And so that's something that she's talked about since the first day I met her when you were a freshman. So she's continuing on that path. She would like to major in health services and administration. Pochlorico. Pochlorico. Yeah? OK. Angela Nava. So Angela. Got to have her older sister a few years ago. First generation, seal of biliteracy earner tonight, four years in the AVID program, three AP courses, three honors courses, 3.8 academic GPA, CSF for four semesters, five college acceptances. She'll be attending Cal State San Bernardino in the fall. She would like to be a math teacher like her teacher, Mr. Barner at Clement, and she's earning $5,745. Bethany Amy Peters. Amy's been in the program for six years. She was in BSU for four years. She's been working since the age of 16 while taking three AP courses and two dual enrollment courses and earning a 4.0 academic GPA. She got five college acceptances and will be attending, along with my son, Howard University, $19,000 scholarship. Lavelle Pickett! So I've known Lavelle's family since they went to school here at REV, and I once held Lavelle when he was this small. So I've known him for quite some time. I was fortunate to have his older brother. I have his younger sister in the freshman class. Just wonderful young adults. Wonderful family. Six years in AVID. A standout athlete at REV in football and in baseball. A captain for both sports. six AP courses, so he's not someone who just does athletics. He's also an academic, including AP Calculus and AP Gov Econ. So he's been taking a tough course load, 3.4 academic GPA. He was recruited by five colleges to play. He'll be attending UC Davis, which is Division I, on a scholarship for not just football, but for baseball. And that will total $150,000 in scholarships. But not only that, he would love to be a professional athlete, but if he does not become a professional athlete, or after he becomes one, he wants to work as a social worker, and he wants to work with foster youth. Hey, Suze Perez! Okay, Seuss is the first in his generation to go to a four-year college, six years in AVID, was part of the Spanish club, vice president, he's fluent in Spanish and is also taking AP Spanish, took six APs overall, plus one dual enrollment class, has earned a 3.8 academic GPA, six acceptances to colleges, including UC San Diego, which he failed to mention to us, which is a very big deal. But he'll be attending Cal Poly Pomona, majoring in civil engineering, with $13,000 of grants. Luca Smith. So I was honored to go to the Ken Hubbs Award dinner last night, and I did not realize, but Lucas Smith was up for the Ken Hubbs Award. He has been at Abbott for four years. He also learned the seal of biliteracy tonight. He's been in water polo for four years on this campus, but he's played more than that. Three years on the varsity level, two years as the captain. He's also been part of the swim team for two years. He's part of the volleyball program for four years, three years on the varsity level, one year as a captain. He's taken four AP courses, including AP calculus, with a 4.2 academic GPA. And he's attending the Air Force Academy at no cost. An offer that is valued at more than $416,000 to go there. Ebony Staton. Ebony has been in the program for five years. She's in the varsity basketball program as a starter for all four years. Varsity starter. She actually broke the school record this year for most points scored in a single quarter at 22 points in one quarter. But she's also a student who's taken two AP courses, two honors courses, has earned a 3.4 academic GPA. She was accepted to five colleges And she's going to continue to pursue her love of basketball at Golden West College. And in the future, she'll earn a Cal Grant and a Pell Grant. Laura Takush. Laura has been in the program for six years. She has a passion for makeup, and she wants to go into marketing in the cosmetic industry. She has taken one AP course, one dual enrollment course. She is someone who gets everything done quickly and timely. She helps other people out. She's earned a 3.8 academic GPA. Her highest GPA was a 4.1. She was qualified for CSF for four semesters. She got into five different colleges, and she'll be attending Crafton Hills College in the fall. Nick has been in the program for four years. Two dual enrollment courses, three AP courses, 3.8 academic GPA, and I've talked to him about this, but just so you know, his mother right now is battling from cancer, and he's still at school almost every single day, taking care of his business academically. And it's also a testament again to how these kids are so strong going through so many things that we never got a chance to even think about until we were adults ourselves. So we're very very honored. that you are doing such a great job despite all the obstacles that are in front of you. And you know what? He never really mentions it. I know because I'm friends with his mother. And I'm just saying that's outstanding. So Nick will be going to Cal State San Bernardino in the fall. He was accepted to four colleges, including UC Merced. And he'll be majoring in information system and technology. All right, last but not least, Reagan Young. She has a different nickname every day. I can't keep up with it, but today I'm going to call you Reagan. She's been in the program for seven years. She was part of the soccer team and the volleyball team. She was, for two years, she was a captain. She took an AP course and two dual enrollment courses. She earned a 3.62 academic GPA while also working. She had college acceptances from 10 different four-year colleges. As of just last week, she was planning to go to Grand Canyon University, but you know what? Her passion is cosmetology, so she's going to be going to Paul Mitchell School of Cosmetology, and then we'll see what happens after that. I want a discount. That's all I can say. I see someone in this crowd who has actually became kind of a TA recently. Ryder Freeman, can you stand up for just a second? I wanted to thank Ryder. He's been helping us out with all the senior things that we've been doing, including our programs. And he wanted to come and wish you all well, too. That's why he's here. He's not here for him. He's here for you. So Ryder, thank you for being here. All right. It's been an honor. This is an absolute dream job. I did not know anything about something like this when I first moved to Redlands. I was a special ed teacher at the beginning, and as soon as someone told me about this type of program, I said, sign me up. Can't say enough about how quickly these 24 years have gone by in this district. The fact that I have these amazing students, with such passion and humor and love for each other, loyalty and dedication. They are honest, but they are honest with respect and they are people who are gonna be our future leaders and I feel very blessed that I know you and I hope that we continue to know each other in the future because you guys are outstanding people. So thank you guys, it's been wonderful.

SPEAKER_12 1:59:04

All right, thank you. We're up to item four. Item four, board comments. Board members, we'll start with Michelle. We'll go down the line.

SPEAKER_16 1:59:17

Oh, first I just want to say for the seal of biliteracy, 116 seniors getting that and four with a triple. That's amazing. I'm so proud of all those students. And all the AVID kids in every single school, you're amazing students. really overcome some challenges, and I'm really proud of all of you. And thank you to all your advisors, all the teachers that teach you every day, and you will all go very far in your life, and congratulations.

SPEAKER_17 1:59:48

SPEAKER_18 2:00:02

Same, I just want to congratulate everyone for an amazing and outstanding job over the last four years. I know not only your parents are proud of you, but all of us are, so congratulations again.

SPEAKER_04 2:00:18

Ditto what my colleagues said, and students, we are so very proud of you.

SPEAKER_05 2:00:21

SPEAKER_04 2:00:25

Teachers, we're proud of you. We know it's a lot of time and effort going in. Advisors, principals, thank you for backing up and I'm proud that we will continue to put more dollars in this program because it is just awesome. So thank you.

SPEAKER_12 2:00:42

We're not used to getting applause for comments, so thank you. That's really nice of you to do that. I thought of some words as I was hearing about each one of your stories. I'm talking about the AVID students first. And they were all in the A's, because you're all A1 great people. So amazing, awesome, astonishing, astounding, and really awe-inspiring. You're inspiring. adults. You're inspiring all of us and you're giving us hope for the future. I would like to also tell you that your individual determination, you know where I got those words from? Yeah, you're avid, that's right. Your individual determination, it is absolutely just It moved me tonight. And I want to also remind you that even though you've put a lot of effort in your own successes, Someone has placed that determination in you and given you those skills and helped you nurture those so that you can move on and become successful in life and continue your story. And I'm sure after seeing this tonight, they'll all be best sellers. Your stories are amazing. But I just wanted to make sure that the leadership, the coordinators of these AVID programs and our staff And the teachers, they are amazing in their endeavors. And I know they love each and every one of you very much. And they're committed to doing the best by you. So I'd like you to give them a round of applause for all of their efforts and endeavors. And then to the biliteracy folks, wow, that's just amazing. I myself know eight languages. I know many people don't know that about me, but and I don't know them fluently, but I know them enough because I love multicultural, multi-ethnic foods. I learned how to say those foods in the native language. So that's my Yeah, that's, anyway. So if you ask me to order food, I'll know some languages. But other than that, no, amazing to be able to be fluent in all of those languages. And yes, it's a great advantage in this world. So congratulations. So tonight, Superintendent Ariana, did you want to have a moment? If I may? Absolutely.

SPEAKER_01 2:03:38

Well, first of all, I'd like to congratulate all the students for the Seal of Biliteracy effort, all the efforts that you put forth in AVID. I'm very proud of you. You continue to make RUSD shine. So thank you for all your hard work, guys. Very proud of you. I want to congratulate and thank our avid sponsors, our teachers, coordinators. You guys do amazing work every day. And even during the toughest times in public education over the last couple of years, you guys have been there. You've stood up for the kids. You've supported them when they were needing the help the most emotionally, academically, whatever. You were there. Thank you. Most of all, I want to thank the parents that are still in the audience, but all your parents, please extend this thanks to them. We appreciate their trust in our program, their trust in our teachers, their trust in our support for you. So parents, thank you so much for hanging in there. I know it's been a difficult several years as we fought through this pandemic. But you've stood there right next to us, right next to your children, and we were proud that we were there for you to help them. So congratulations. Keep your dreams alive. Go get them, guys. Go get them. You can do it.

SPEAKER_19 2:04:52

SPEAKER_12 2:04:53

Thank you. I wish to thank our support staff tonight for helping us celebrate these amazing students. Tech team, another great night. Thank you very much. Principal Clary, are you still here?
