Notice of public hearing regarded bonded indebtedness for the community facilities district 2024-1. The public hearing is now open. Is there anyone who would like to comment? Oh, you just don't have a student. All right So I have with your permission i'll i'll read the report uh janea thomas was our student trustee from orangewood and She graduated. There you go. So we had Bella here last last board meeting and Jania was scheduled to be here tonight but she is a graduate of RUSD now and Mrs. Norris at Orangewood will be Our principal Norris will be helping us select a new student to come and be our student trustee from Orange Wood, okay? But I do have a report from Orange Wood. So if Jenea had been here, she would have said. Good evening school board members, Superintendent Cabral and Executive Cabinet. Orange Wood High School is proud to announce the upcoming campus and community events. Fall is off to a great start. Over 90% of our seniors are on track for graduation and preparing for life after Orange Wood. Orange Wood High School has a new graduation requirement for the class of 2025. All seniors must complete 10 hours of community service. As a Kiwanian, I love to hear that kind of stuff. Additionally, seniors will be volunteering at several RUSD Elementary Fall Festivals. Lastly, the first group of graduates will be announced on Friday, October 31st, Halloween. SPEAKER_02 0:11:31

That completes the OHS report. Thank you. So now on to board committee reports. Does anyone have anything they would like to report? Go ahead.

SPEAKER_07 0:11:43

Redlands Compact Club, 27 adults and 49 students attended the mixer that we had a few weeks ago. Thank you, Jim, for attending. Compact Club members were able to job shadow in a variety of fields, are able to this year. If you are a business person or in your job you'd like to allow kids to job shadow you, you can contact the Compact Advisor at one of the high schools. RHS had their first career speaker from Cal State San Bernardino, and it was standing room only. They had over 80 kids in the room listening. If you are a Kawanian, an optimist, or a Rotarian, look for a PowerPoint presentation at your club by Compact members. their next officer's meeting is the 4th of November and the steering committee will meet on November 7th. I also have rep. At the last meeting of Redlands Educational Partnership there was discussion about presenting checks to the teachers and principals who were awarded grants and presenting them at the November 12th board meeting so wasn't sure if that got relayed and if that's on the books. Triple A Academy their fall camp Registration is underway. It's almost full. So if you want your kids to be in there You need to get the registration done online. The camp is November 25th to the 27th They also were talking about ways to increase donations Payroll deductions is a great way they were going to speak with new hires maybe to explain what rep is because a lot of people moving into a Our community, our school district don't know what the goal of REP is and the mission. Jennifer Moore spoke at the principal's meeting recently to talk about the importance of what REP does and how it affects all our schools. And that is it.

SPEAKER_02 0:13:40

Thank you. Any other board reports? No? Okay. Board comments? Michelle? You want to go first? Yes.

SPEAKER_07 0:13:54

I had a wonderful time at the theater clinic workshop that included RHS, CV, COPE, and Beatty. Students performed monologues and scenes from their different plays. They received professional feedback from some very talented adults involved in theater around San Bernardino and Riverside counties. It was great. Jim was there for a while in the back. So I want to thank Joy Baden, Elena Villa, and Mrs. Cook, and Mike Detro for going above and beyond for all our talented students. I can't wait to see which of these students become our future entertainers, because we have a few in that group. Hopefully next year, Rev, Orangewood, Moore, and Clement can take part in this workshop. And I was brainstorming with them about maybe holding a nighttime performance showcase you know showcasing all these monologues and what these amazing kids can do. I also was lucky enough to be at yet another stellar superintendent awards night. We had the pre-awards music and entertainment by Rev and Jason Hill opened the show with the lights and fanfare. He was like a celebrity coming out there. It's really nice to award our staff members also. I like that touch and congratulations to all those who received awards. You are all part of what makes RUSD shine. I'm looking forward to the many fairs, carnivals, and trunk retreats in the next week at our different schools. I hope you all will join us at the State of the District on the 29th. I don't want to take your thunder away, but you know. So and welcome Emily, as you begin your new position as Principal of Kimberley, and welcome Connie. And I'm looking forward to working with you. You'll get a lot of calls from me, I'm sorry. Right, Carrie Anne? Sorry. Good luck to our girls flag football and volleyball teams that are playing in CIF playoffs this week. And that's all I have.

SPEAKER_02 0:15:46

All right, thank you. Melissa?

SPEAKER_06 0:15:49

I have nothing this week.

SPEAKER_03 0:15:52

Okay, Jim? Well, I got out there the last couple of weeks for some exciting things. I went and saw the Fall Coral Festival at Redlands High School. And as always, it was an amazing performance by those kids. They had the four choruses.

SPEAKER_05 0:16:13

Were you in the cheap seats there too? Because I was there and I didn't see you.

SPEAKER_03 0:16:16

I did have the good seats. I heard you were there, but you were in the good seats again. I like to sit where acoustically the sound envelops me, yes, and that's towards the back. But Mr. Diaz, always on point there at RHS with those choirs, so really amazing. And a pretty good crowd, including you. Nice that you were able to make it. Went to the ADK new teacher welcome. And it's probably my last one as an official board member. But each year, since I've been a board member because of my background, at school sites working with young kids. I give the new teachers a bag of what's called oops, but it's vomit dust, you know. But it helps the instruction to continue when there is something that happens in a classroom because I told them it makes it smell like warm chocolate chip cookies, which is much better than the alternative. And then I gave them a towel to clean themselves up afterwards because normally a kid will come up, a little one, and say, teacher, I don't feel well. And it doesn't go where you would like it to go. So the towel was for them. But it was fun. And it's great to see those new teachers and talk with them and share with them. They're happy and proud to be part of Redlands Unified School District, and it's just good to see all of them. And this year, one of our very own teachers, Mrs. Wynn, she's a teacher at Kimberly, The ADK people presented her book. She's an author, she wrote a children's book, and her book was selected to give to all the elementary schools, which was very cool, yes. I'll tell you a little side note that one of my neighbor kids, who's a Moore student, has a fear of the pool drain. She's had it since she was a little tiny girl, and Even now, as a middle school student, she swims down the pool and avoids the drain as she swims down the pool. It's stuck in her head. Well, this story is about a little girl who's afraid of the pool drain. So it's probably a first grade book. I bought the book for her and Mrs. Wynn signed it. And when I presented it to her and she recognized, she said, oh, Mrs. Wimmer is my kindergarten teacher. And I thought, oh my gosh, what a small world. You know, so the connection made, it became twice as important to her, so pretty awesome. Maybe. Yeah, maybe. Well, she's a water polo player, so you'd think a water polo player would have those kind of fears. I mean, they get gouged and beat and pinched and kicked, but the pool drain is still a monster.

SPEAKER_01 0:19:26

I don't know.

SPEAKER_03 0:19:29

We'll continue to work. Maybe that'll lay her fears down. Wow, I lost my train of thought, which is getting more common these days. But I think that's it for now. I had a couple other things I was going to say, but I took too much time talking about Mrs. Wynn's book.

SPEAKER_04 0:19:51

Okay, thank you. Just want to welcome yada yada consuelo And to emily welcome to our usd family. It's good to have you Um, just a couple things. I attended an event called cal matters at the riverside museum And basically it's just about talking ballots on the election for statewide and everything. So it's just a informational event I attended a lot of football games recently the RHS CV game and the Ravi Kaipa game and the RHS cajon game Yeah, so that was okay attended those games and then I But you know teams keep going out there and keep dedicating yourself to the sport. It's just been an off year So we will get back on and thank you to all the players who give their time and talent to come out there and play in a group sport I attended partial partial of the superintendent's awards because I had another event that started at 5 30 that evening And I just want to say the rev jazz Group was just amazing. They knocked it out of the park. They're so talented and great And then you know just when you thought the bowl was over. We actually have one more event We are holding a Christmas under the stars on December 6th on Friday night at the brothers bone Of course, it's free and it's with modern gentlemen who are absolutely amazing So that'll be a great one and then just on a personal note Just encourage everyone to make sure that you vote and exercise your right as a citizen Thank you

SPEAKER_03 0:21:23

Go ahead Jim. Oh I do want to mention the resource fair at RHS last night. It was pretty well attended and there were a lot of great resources in our community that were represented there and our superintendent was there as well giving away great prizes and things so it was a great event. Thank you.

SPEAKER_02 0:21:44

So my daughter's a student at Citrus Valley High School and she's in the band and she sends me a text message on Friday, Dad, they can't find anybody to emcee the Citrus Valley High School band competition. You need to be the emcee, you need to talk. And I was just like, no, no, they'll find somebody, don't worry. Dad, Dad, you have to do it, you have to do it. So I was the MC at Citrus Valley High School from four o'clock to nine o'clock. It was a lot of fun because I got to see all of the bands and seeing how hard the band students work and within four minutes how they have to get on the fills and set up and perform and then they got to get out within two minutes. It's just amazing to see how much work and how dedicated those students are. and I was I was more than happy to emcee and I butchered some people's names, but I apologized at the end and They applauded for me. I I was trying to be as funny as as Jim is You know, but it was a great time had a great time there one

SPEAKER_00 0:22:54

Yes, thank you. I have a couple of items actually that I want to give updates on and that's training because we are all aware of the mandates that we are following this school year from the Department of Justice and the Office of Civil Rights and I'm happy to report that we have met all of our deadlines. More specifically every single manager which is over a hundred classified and certificated at every level has been trained and we're talking about four and a half hour training That everybody had to participate in and we did over three different time periods Anybody who missed it went through makeups, same amount of time spent on every, each one was an hour and a half. Really, really good training done by the Department of Justice attorneys. Some of you actually attended several of those, and so we appreciate your participation. We also have training for all staff that is getting approved. All of our teachers and all of our classified staff will participate in training. Our target date right now is November 1 for the first part of that. And then we have a professional development day in January where we hope to implement the second part of that. And so we're happy to report that we are up to speed with all of our deadlines. One of the most important components of the mandates is student training and I want to remind the community And the board that every single student will participate in sexual harassment prevention training Age-appropriate training that is being developed by our department It is groundbreaking training that does not exist in the way that we need it to so we decided to develop it Dr. Wilson's office has done a tremendous job in getting this done the target date for it to be completed is the end of this month Where we will then share it with three specific school sites JMB Beatty and rev will be ours the the students that we start with and It will be made available first to parents and to the staff so that they see it before we actually implement it with students. You will get to see it as a board also prior to its implementation, but we're excited to be able to have that completed with the target date of either December or the beginning of January where we'll have all students participate in that. And the way that we want to implement it is to have our administration, our administrators actually go into classrooms and provide those lessons for all of our students at every level. What will also happen in December is a survey. We are going to survey all of our students and staff to ensure that they can tell us that they know how to report any incident that is going on, that they know what Spregio is, and that they know where to go to on campus with any adult that they can go to to report anything that needs to get reported. And so that will also go out in December and so we are on track and I'm excited to just make sure everybody knows that we are doing everything that we need to be doing. On a different note, we have a couple of items on the Dyess Red Ruben Week is coming up and so we have all of the activities in this little packet in front of you for you to be able to participate in. Our schools always do a really good job of that. I did go to the resource fair yesterday and it was really, really good. A lot of community partners, a lot of our parents, a lot of our staff. It was a lot of fun. The face team, just a shout out to the face team. I know Director Ballangette is back there, I think. I think I see her. There she is. Nice work. Her whole team did a really good job with that. Yes, the state of the district. This is open to everybody. I think we have 300 plus seats in the Redlands High School Theater that we're going to hold this event in. So far we have, it's the Grace Mullen, thank you. I think over 150 RSVPs, 155? Which is tremendous. We have our parents coming staff. Everybody in the audience is welcome to join us What are you gonna get you're gonna get to see some of our students perform? but you're also gonna hear all the great things that are going on in our district and be able to Participate by collaborating with us and meeting everybody and talking with us So please come out October 29th, and then Friday Mecha of RHS is having an event cultural night Starting at 4 30. Everybody's invited. It's open to everybody So I'm just gonna shout out to them and then I have to say it because it's happening right now flag football playoffs is going on right now Citrus Valley already won so shout out to Citrus Valley girls flag football and I believe Rev is playing right now So if you want to leave to go watch Rev I will not be insulted I'm totally okay with that because it's just a lot of things going on in our schools. Oh, no, not the board Everybody but the board. And then lastly, I just want to say I did miss last board meeting and I have been out and I really appreciate everybody's support. Jason, thank you so much for holding it down up here at the dais. And I just want to say thank you to everybody for your support during this time. It means a lot to me and my family. Thank you.
