staff and district for another year of hard work and achievements as Mrs Hernandez Blair said at the last meeting even the smallest margin of achievement needs to be recognized and celebrated and I completely agree I encourage all of you to take some time time over your summer break and do something you haven't done before try a new activity read a good
book I will always recommend to Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee um or go see a friend you haven't seen in a while you all work extremely hard as our friend Todd pointed out you all work extremely hard during the school year and we all need time to rest regroup and enjoy the fruits of our labor once you've rested um and planning
Begins for the next school year as a community member I exhort all of us to really take some time this summer to think outside the box when it comes to our program Improvement schools and academically challenged students here's a question to meditate on for a while how can we get parents more involved Who Will Champion these students and help them grow if parent
participation is not a possibility are we looking at all opportunities to serve within the body student mentors kind-hearted volunteers enthusiastic interns faith-based to organizations there are members of this community looking for ways they can make a difference case in point we have seen an overwhelming response from the community at our beloved Hope Family Resource Center because of one man
thinking outside the box and putting a plan into action in the absence of engaged parents let's give our village an opportunity to in assist in raising our most in need children if one students achievement is impacted positively it will change the course of that child's life forever isn't that hope worth a try Chino Valley Unified School District

speak to one and every of us my Lord we pray my Lord in the name of the Lord father God the mighty name of Jesus Christ amen amen thank you thank you Catherine good evening another excuse me another year has passed our district is making important improvements which should be highly beneficial to our students standards-based report cards and the
piloting of new language arts textbooks are two promising examples but we are still not putting proper emphasis on educating our brightest students for their sake in the well-being of our school district as well it would seem to be a very high priority to do so we still need our magnet classes first report cards that a student cannot get the highest numerical
score roughly equal to an a as we used to call it without extending or going Beyond Learning grade level standards it's good for the general School populace but not so good for gate extending used to be what our gate students did to show appropriate behavior for the top grade now they have to extend beyond the extension and that's hard for a teacher
to set up or if it's General so that gate kids can extend one way and non-gate kids and others then it's hard to get a rubric to decide when the extension has been completed in a magnet class all the students are gate one rubric is all that's needed for proper extensions next the new language textbooks are great materials are
readily available for ELD on grade level Learners struggling learners but for extending Learners it's a bit sparse usually it says to have the gate student take more detailed notes explain the concept more in depth research an aspect of it or produce a play now gate kids might want to explain a concept in more depth but mostly they want to be
inspired to do more challenging tasks not just to do harder work just because they want to be told we're made of star stuff as a reason to study biological chemistry or that most people think Shakespeare is too hard for second graders as a reason to produce a well- memorized Midsummer Night stream which we just did again we need our magnet
classes it's hard to find enough time to properly motivate and Mentor a really worthwhile extension like a play with only a few gate kids and a lot of kids needing remediation the most common concern I hear from gate parents is that where their child is they are currently not being sufficiently challenged the magnet is no longer an option due to being
located at borba some site safety concerns about the inner city type setting of the school some site not knowing who will be the teacher or that the regular magnet teachers did not transfer from roads please relocate the magnet to a venue acceptable to gate parents so our precious brightest students May again be served thank you any changes in deletion the
following changes are on the agenda Educational Services item 3 D4 page 143 School sponsored trips under Chino high school at girls basketball tournament June 17th through 19th Palm Springs 7 students three chaperon $50 student funded okay we are now we are action items Pat please announce the first item public hearing regarding the 2016 2017 budget recommend the Board of Education

520 we're now at information items but before questions or comments Mr shura would you like to address item 4 B1 yes thank you good evening uh president Cruz board and uh superintendent Joseph tonight uh we have a presentation on this item which is our longrange facilities master plan by Mr Jim D Camelo who is uh president of wlc
Architects um this presentation is a culmination of uh a little over a Year's work multiple meetings at school sites three to be exact we visited every site 35 sites so it's well over 100 meetings there was a lot of a lot of time and hours put in by by District staff uh Mr Mr Joseph accompanied us on some
meetings we had a lot of site staff teachers site administrators and um basically received a lot of input from them they been put into the plan you're receiving it tonight for information um we'll bring it back to you at the next meeting for as an action item for a vote but um wanted you to um see this and
absorb it and then if you have any questions myself or Mr Diller will be happy to answer them so without any further Ado Mr Jim B okay good evening everybody sorry for the passing out of a lot of information but it is a lot of information I'm Jim D celo president of wlc Architects and just a a minute to talk about history I
was here earlier giving a presentation I am C celebrating 32 years in support of the at one time Chino unified now Chino valy Unified School District that anniversary will come up in about a week so it's great to be here at Chino Valley Unified and great to be here talking about your long range facility master plan this presentation is mostly to to
inform everybody about what a facility's master plan is because to be perfectly honest most people don't know they they you've seen me around the district for many many years and we're designing buildings and creating facilities and by the way I stopped in at pdc2 earlier today as well and you know talk about warming your heart to see that facility
up and running and the great work that's going on in there with all the principles uh doing ins services and the like but that's the architecture part this is the master planning part which is sort of a what I call a 35,000 ft level of your district and that's your District as as everybody who's met with with us and over a 100 meetings across
the district for the last year plus that's not the state of Texas although somebody had a somebody had a sense of humor when they drew the district boundaries that that is your school district and we have crossed it three times literally going to every single one of the that's probably a pointer right every single one of the dots uh
three different times as well as numerous meetings with your administrative staff here at the district office what have we been doing what is a long range facility master plan that's what I'm going to talk about tonight so I'm going to talk about process product and then sort of what do you do about it on a process standpoint
what this has been is basically site tours of all the facilities data collection mostly with your facilities and maintenance department and the Lion Share of the work our site Community engagement meetings with principal site staff and Community we literally went three times to every single site getting input from uh the various stakeholders and essentially measuring three times
before cutting once district meetings we met on a regular basis with District cabinet and department heads to look at the results of those input meetings from the community and then the ultimate product are really diagrams of your sites not plans but diagrams and then cost estimates our best estimate of what we believe the work ahead of the district
in regards to facilities will be it's not a curriculum plan as a facilities plan the product that was processed the product is essentially and I I hope you'll take time to read it is information regarding your messaging uh an input summary diagrams and cost estimates in that are what I have what I have termed and and this this is a draft
document so it's it's still open for massaging and editing if you will but the Thematic elements that have come out of the process are really these six principles one is Safety and Security two is technology three is evolution of your your facilities four is maintenance of your facilities five is parody between your facilities and six is sustainability you'll see these in just
little cartoon vignettes throughout and a little bit of a reader digest hint about what happens because of all of that so just as an example parity between facilities is one that we talked about a lot with the community that does not mean your facilities are equal uh there's a lot of names on the on the boards behind you of all your schools
they've been built over many years and almost no two have the same plan they will not be equal but parity is an issue and so we've spent a lot of time talking around the district about parity between facilities even on campuses themselves so the one I highlighted here which isn't often thought of is portable replacement that you have some kids in
permanent construction with access to bathrooms drinking fountains staff work rooms all the things that support their education and yet others are relegated to Portables which were put in over time as populations grew at at your schools but they're still there and some of them are over a quarter Century old so parody is a big issue across your district and
and that's partly because your district is very Dynamic you're still growing in areas of the district you have older schools that are approaching 70 years old and yet you have schools that are still literally uh popping up from out of the ground product the real product of the master plan our diagrams and the people who met with me could probably do this
slide for me what do you do about it here's here's essentially what you do you build something you don't have again we're talking facilities Jim we have a great school but we don't have this and our school has never had that even from when it was first built we've always needed one is there a way that we can
get that at this school build something we don't have what we call new construction renovation Jim we have that that and we've had it since the school was built but we don't use it that way anymore that program left here years ago we're trying to make a fish fly we we need to renovate our school so that it
works with the current Technologies and curriculum that we're trying to trying to instruct the third is site and ground improvements play Fields parking lots playgrounds fencing Jim the school's gotten old all of this needs to be updated our playground equipment none of this stuff lasts forever or as everybody around the district knows I've said even the Sphinx eventually lost its nose it's
time to upgrade some of these facilities across your district and then finally is the most important one going on in master planning architectural facility Master planning which is furniture furniture technology and systems nothing has changed in my industry in my 35 years of practice as much as the need to change what a classroom looks like and how it actually operates from a
standpoint of furniture and Technology everybody we met with I would constantly say the biggest change over the last 20 years was going from blackboards to white boards ooh colored markers okay that was the big change the way that kids learn and the way that you will need to teach them is going to change by Leaps and Bounds over the next few years
and the district must keep up with this or you literally will be talking in French and they'll be listening in Latin so furniture and technology is crucial to the work in your master plan then ultimately the product are a number of diagrams this is just an example example uh Elementary School uh diagram and I'll explain to those in a
little bit this is an exemplary Junior High example and we have the same thing for high schools and every school in the district is cited in the same way going throughout the document so it goes through each site looks at things and at the bottom are proposed actions so for the board who has the actual draft document it's it's summarized this way
there is an existing photo of the site which kind of Wizard of Azie is in black and white and then it goes to full color when you get to the master plan diagram there's a legend on the side which tells you what those various improvements are yellow build something new pink to Red is renovate something you already have
blue and green are that site category and then notes within the buildings that talk about those furniture and Technology issues it's intended to be easy to read and easy to use this is a document that will last you a good 10 to 15 years as a road map for what to do okay at the bottom are proposed actions
this summarizes some not all but some of the input that we received some that was translatable into projects all of the input we received is shown in text format with each school so while we didn't do this and said Well the lady in the red sweater told us this their input all of it is in the text version in each
in each site so hopefully those who came to those meetings could see this document on a website and said hey that was my comment that was what we talked about at the school so as an example this is Don Lugo and I won't go over it in great detail but as you'll see yellow is the build something new and that
there's descriptions at the bottom of what those elements are uh you probably recognize solar panels which are shown as sight improvements here and then I picked this one because it has everything from sort of orange to to to lighter orange the depth of the darkness of the red indicates the significance renovation work that needs to go on so
there so it's very easy to read your newest schools tend to be lighter red your older schools tend to be darker red or those who were not recently renovated or modernized through some other program like your measure M program which recently Suns at so the idea behind this entire document the diagrams and estimates is that this will be a working
document road map what do you do with it that's probably the biggest challenge for most districts the intent is not for this document to sit on a shelf the intent is that uh Mr stura maintenance operations Martin Everybody working with this can pull out this document and use it as a road map we're called and happy to be called by your District on a
regular basis Jim we need a portable at this site hopefully the goal will be to take out these diagrams look at the master plan and make sure you're not putting one where something in the master plan is intentionally supposed to go nobody likes to see a sewer dug up and then red du up 6 months later so
this is intended as a global road map here's the big stuff okay along with the diagram then obviously comes well Jim what would what would all this cost to do across the the overall District now let me explain to everybody here this is a facility master plan I'm going to use the b word this is not a bond
document okay this is a master plan for your school district going forward Bond documents are totally separate and involve what's called an implementation plan and talk about funding cycles and all of that this is truly the assessment of what we believe should be done across the district for the next 10 or 15 years it is not intended for you to read this
so don't worry but it is in the back of the master plan in in in a format where you can read it but this is essentially the number crunching that goes along with all the projects and how you read it is it and and how it's uh generated is by a space inventory that there are backup documents to these spreadsheets
that give you every square foot in this district from elementary junior high high school and all the support centers it it documents the square footage of your Portables your permanent construction the age of these facilities then it takes those those uh elements of square footage and multiplies them by cost multipliers which we use from our corporate database
of what the cost of doing projects in a current market are okay we literally bid a couple hundred million dollars worth of work a year so we're very on the pulse of what projects cost these days and there's backup that generates that as well and so then it finally takes all of those multiplies them all together and creates a CVUSD total facility
master plan number in the bottom right hand corner it's really that simple it is an Excel spread sheet that's interlocked with a whole bunch of backup documents so what was the result you'll see the same stuff again red renovate something we do have yellow build something new green fix up the site blue furniture and Technology yes that's a lot of zeros you're a very
big school district uh our assessment of the needs of the district are just a hair uh on top of a billion dollars over the next 10 to 15 years yep with a B uh the potential State funding which you guys have taken major advantage of through the hard work of a lot of people in this room with measure M there is a
there is currently an eligibility on the books of about 74 between 74 and probably 100 million in state funding for the those same sorts of needs so that gets your total net investment on your facilities into the range of about $900 million projecting forward for 10 or 15 years do you have to do it all no the
master plan is a road map forward I've often said in the groups that we've met with there is a team of people consultants in the district that is shopping for a mortgage I'm shopping for a house there's a big uh difference I'm the guy who's saying here are facility needs that we see in a long-term basis to keep you at PACE with other
Technologies and other districts in in your surrounding area both from growth and just renovation of of Maintenance and assessment other people would shop their house and say how would you pay for all of this but it's really important to know what the what the builtup or pent up need or requirements are these I think are very helpful
they're in the diagram as well people always ask well that's an awful lot of money what does it all go to just to give you an idea the same color key sort of stuff applies to most of it uh let me go back from a standpoint of just strict project base we're looking at about you know X number percent out of the pie
there for additions build something new similarly in the piece to get rid of portable classrooms throughout the district if that would become a a major goal furniture and Technologies coming in right about there that's to be understood if you building a new building that's about the percentage of it you would spend on the furniture from technology for the school your
modernization that's an important colum modernization are projects in your District that are 25 years and older in measure M you modernize it's a state term it has to do with the state school building program you modernized many schools in the measurem program those are schools that just logistically are 25 years old that's it when it's 25 years old the state says you qualify to
modernize your schools the story we've told throughout the district is this AA High school is 26 years old it is yeah really it's not a new school anymore many of the schools in the Chino Hills are now eligible to be modernized and many schools on the Chino side likewise are popping up in that same territory as well that's modernization renovation is
sort of elective work we want to do this we don't really qualify for State money for it but to keep up with the things that we need to do in our district that's the distinction between uh modernization and renovation it's interesting to know we we don't back into the numbers the numbers are what they are these are your
elementary schools and it's amazing how regular it is across the we we literally took input put the numbers into a grinder or Excel spreadsheet and came out with this distribution between the schools very similar actually between all the schools a lot of parity of need the junior highs I mean I don't think you could get it anymore regular than
that that's across your junior high schools and it's partly because they you know they they age from from you know at different ages woodrest being the newer some need additions some need renovation some need site improvements but the numbers worked out to be virtually identical um interesting that dropped thought of that slide that is Chino Hills High School uh or excuse me that's
that's aala high school um changed them to the colors of the schools but that dropped out I think it might be correct in your book that's Don Lugo Gino Hills and and then Chino and it's not surprising there either your oldest school is the one with the with the large just need again this is done strictly off of sort of math and age so
that's not I don't think should be a surprise your newest school would be the would be the lesses on the least on that pie chart so coming back to it this master plan is really about six major things improving Safety and Security upgrading the technology to 21st Cent 21st century support of Education evolution of your buildings in modernization we have
things called TK now we didn't have TK when any these schools were built I've said to all your District you have computer labs all over your District I will eat this document if I come back in 10 years and you still have a computer lab in the Chino Valley Unified School District nobody's building computer labs in their schools anymore okay the
evolution goes into maintenance your roofs don't last forever your HVAC equipment doesn't last forever this is all a uh basically a replacement of systems all of these systems literally uh will be replaced as the as the years go by parody we talked about that a little bit very common at your high schools your high school is a little bit
out of whack if you will with facilities there's some have this facility others have that and sustainability which you've already taken a major step for as I think everybody in the community has seen with solar panels going up around the district including right here in your own parking lot but there's other things yet to do from a sustainability
standpoint consuming less energy producing more energy uh increasing natural daylighting into your rooms increases student performance and other things that will help your test scores and the community in general that's what your master plan is about back to the state of Texas and all the dots I can't thank the people in your District board your staff has just been tremendous in
their support this is a major undertaking and it's why people don't do it but every 10 or 15 years um but I think we had fun and I think for anybody who was in one of the meetings with us I think they had fun as well we tried to make it a great experience where people were basically said you know give us
give us your feedback I'll close with this it's a very realistic document we didn't allow a couple of terms we didn't allow the term needs assessment this is not counting catch basins and branches and things like that and we didn't and we didn't use the term wishlist this is not pie in the sky this is strategic Master planning the projects that are
identified in your facilities master plan we believe are significant realistic and required to to keep the Chino Valley Unified School District at PACE with the others around it and the changes that are being done to us by an everchanging uh e economy world and technology so I'm here to answer questions what do I press Miss vies I
know you had the meetings and I know that we uh tried to elicit Community input from some postcards and what kind of community what kind of response did we get to that oh it varied we had sites I think probably the biggest meeting had over a hundred uh people at it um we had sites that were smaller um I think probably the least
would have been maybe a dozen but uh yeah it varied from sight to site to site and we had a we had a literally standing room only crowd in the multi-purpose room at Wickman Elementary School on an afternoon so it was it and some were in the evening they were literally at all different times I again I think it was very much so a
cross-section of the community parents neighbors we had we had U we had really good input you know you're exactly right for the computer lab that's going to go away within a year or two there's some schools where every child has a computer and now the labs are are being transformed into maker space places and so you're yeah you're exactly right said
everybody your computer labs will literally become the Velvet Rope across the door where the kids will look in and said why were all computers in one room what were they doing in there even the library is changing very much so lot lot of changes are occurring Greg the superintendent Martin they could all tell my my same stories they've heard
them a hundred times so feel free to it was a very I went to every single meeting and I felt real strongly about that that the messaging be the same that everybody heard it had to come from one person the same way so that the input we got again to uh to uh board member fix comments that the input we got was also
the same so that they heard the same thing from me and so did Greg uh 100 different times but they heard it and gave the same me the same commentary back it was a great process I just want to thank you because you're welcome I actually I think I had just gotten on the board when I received
one of these and it looked much different it was huge and but um I know it takes a lot of work so I want to thank you for for all your efforts as as well as our staff and everyone who was involved you're welcome I'm a I do this all over the place and I am a big fan of
keeping this document readable if it becomes too voluminous and it would be very easy to show all the back up and make it voluminous you're never going to use it or read it you're absolutely right and I bet you haven't I do this one you will uh Jim thank you for everything for um the board's edification why don't you
tell them the schools that your company has been involved in as far as building in our district well I think i' I was actually sitting there next to Martin and I think I've actually worked on every single one of your I was trying to pick the ones I haven't either put in a portable or modernize the school or
design the school from the ground up so it's literally which schools have you designed from the ground up uh specifically let's see if I go down the list uh let's see aala chaperel um let's see we did most of the work at Don Lugo Eagle Canyon roads uh cattle uh going down Wickman al already said over there that
might be I think I missed one or two in there but quite a few and we've literally either renovated or or added on to so the schools weren't new to us we I I know I know your District very well thank you sir and we've been very very proud and happy to serve the district for years it's been a it's been
a a true Joy I was able to be principal for the day at AA High School uh last year and uh found out where where all the I tried to convince the kids there was a basement but they weren't buying it so thanks again thank you thank you Communications Miss Blair how exciting were the graduations last week a bit um tiring you know for
those of us that work full time and then having to rush there work half a day and and get there before the parents and the crowd and everything to find a parking spot but I think that is the most um honor I I have as a Schoolboard member and have enjoyed every one of them and I know I received some comments from
parents that said I don't know how you maintain your smile with every student and I just think I feel so giddy looking at them and I just start smiling the way that they smile because they're just full of excitement and so um it's always the best week of the year for for me I want to share um
another excite exciting and something that is extremely dear to me because at when I first became a board member into probably the second year I kept asking about breakfast at the school School sites and how can we get breakfast at the school sites and you know grants here are the grants and so it it's wonderful to see that breakfast
is expanding to five more of our schools this coming school year so our new sites with lunch will be Butterfield Eagle Canyon Lidle Rolling Ridge and Canyon Hills junior high which will now bring us to 29 of our school sites providing breakfast which we all know helps improve concentration and stronger focus in the classroom so I want to thank staff for
continuing to work so diligently to bring breakfast to more of our students in our district I appreciate that very much I attended the Relay for Life survivors fashion show and witnessed the beautiful arrangements made by our Don Lugo Flor culture students the arrangements were done in different different shades of purple because that's the color for cancer survivors
but the arrang arrangements you would have thought had been purchased from a top quality uh floral store you know um they they were just gorgeous so kudos to are Don Lugo High School students for that and lastly I have asked in the past regarding listing the amount of stiping in the consent calendar the actual cash value or a way for us to know um what the
overall cost of all of the statements stiens that are in the consent calendar if we can start receiving that somehow because all we do is receive this list that we're approving of maybe 20 to 30 styp in for sports or various activities and if I I would like to see what the cost what overall Financial impact we're
approving so hopefully we can get that in our July item and that's all I've got thank you thank you Mr n thank you um Mr Joseph can we have our staff meet up with Mrs Osman our gate teacher uh she has some valid concerns and I'd like to see it address um our gate uh students are very important for our school
district I believe and and um it is it is our duty to really grow our program stronger every single year so thank you Mrs Osman for advocating for gate students okay thank you Mr Joseph I'd like to thank all the graduates from 2016 class I love you guys and proud of proud of each one of you uh especially those with even with
the concerns um they're looking for jobs now they're calling me Mr n do you know anyone hiring um so thank you um for being a man and and a woman now you're no longer children but you are a young man and woman um so we'll be there for you thank you and I also like to thank the teachers who are still working even
today I asked our teacher there said how's your vacation and she said I've been working today Mr na so thank you teachers for devoting your time outside of your your class hours so thank you but I also like to thank our CSA members especially on grounds you know we had great uh Heat Wave few weeks ago but
next week supposed to be really really bad um they're predicting maybe 108 on the ground so I'd like to see our staffs working um a smart way where so that our staffs won't be harmed and I think uh safety would be our my biggest uh concern for all the members so um Mr Joseph could you please tell our
department to be mindful be mindful good good thank you yeah um also 4th of July is coming and again we had another terrorist attack in Orlando and I have spoken as of last year our youth not only faces the today's challenge of fighting against Bad Influence which includes drugs and alcohols and and broken down family relationships and their support but
also new warfront that's fighting is Isis um group where there's no boundary anymore when I remember when I was growing up in high school I never had to worry about these things but each year so this coming 4th of July let's be United let's be United and continue on the Journey of making this nation great and always be shining star on this Earth
this is my comment thank you Mr President thank you Mr Rosco M Vikes oh sorry Miss vies sorry it's all right um I am such a lucky person since I worked here as a teacher that I have a strong connection to some former students and I was phoned by a nimu in who is a 10th grader at aala to
tell me about a program that she was um well she didn't really want to take very much credit for herself but I think she was instrumental in getting this program going and it was pretty remarkable um she started I think she started at Country Springs Katherine you're nodding am I correct she started at Country Springs to develop a debate program for
those elementary students and then she recruited some of her friends I actually I know there is another girl who shares founder status with nimu but she was not in my class and I don't know her name I did ask for all of those statistics but I didn't I didn't get them back in time for this meeting and I did want to share
it with you um by the time they had this tournament debate tournament at Country Springs last month I think there were five different elementary schools that were represented um there were high school students at every Elementary School to help coach the teams and then on that given day um they had high school students to judge the debates each
student was able to participate in three rounds of debate um it was so impressive of course nimu did not know that I was the debate coach at r High School in when I began my career in the 70s so of course it warmed my heart that they were doing this particular activity but I was so stunned by the actions of these two
10th grade girls to pull this whole activity together I'm sure they had plenty of support from teachers and parents trying to to help them get going but it's amazing what some of our students stents can bring uh in terms of to uh their personal strengths and their um interest to other students I did ask nimu were you on the debate team at Canyon Hills
she said no I said well how how did you pick this she said well I I was in the model un and it always looked like something fun to me and I thought I could help with it and I thought what a great attitude of volunteerism and I I really hope we can highlight her a little bit in the fall with her plans
cuz she still has two more years who knows how many schools we'll have involved by the time she graduates but uh it was very very impressive and Katherine's nodding I was in her room I was able to watch the debate with these I think they were all sixth graders that I we saw that day um it was really very
impressive and what a great way to um implement some of the goals of Common Core into our our instructional day and our Academic Program uh secondly I wanted to say that I was invited by Janine Milligan to participate in their career day at Eagle Canyon uh Janine is their instructional coach at Eagle Canyon I was there last
year and I do think I had the most boring job to tell them about any one of their teachers could tell them about being a teacher or a principal but um they were perfectly behaved of course I couldn't have been near as compelling as the bugman who came with all his stuff um but it was a great opportunity for
students to hear about careers and it was in line with their no excuses University participation you know emphasizing post high school education so that was really exciting for me uh I don't want to just repeat what people said about the graduation but I wanted to thank publicly all our staff members teachers administrators all our CA people who put those graduations
together um it's like doing a small wedding or actually a big wedding with all of those kids to accommodate and that it comes off so beautifully and seamlessly and memorably for our families um we owe a great big debt of GRA gratitude to all of the people who work so hard on those events and lastly Mr Joseph my my task for you is that we
could convene a you be mindful of this that we could convene a committee on employee recognition and Employee Retirement I'm hoping we can get a committee together starting this summer so that next year we will have something more and different do you hear that act and [Laughter] CA I'll even come but you probably don't want me to be there but uh I really am
hopeful that that's something we could work on for the coming year that's it thank you Mr R school well that's a perfect lead into my comments because what do I always start with but announcing the retirement so hopefully I won't have to announce them anymore because they'll be properly recognized and so I ask that you bear with me this evening because we do have
quite a few and so we been begin with Rod fedt what a gem he was the principal of my two boys and so it's bittersweet so um principal 23 years of service at and he ended up at butfield Ranch he was actually principal at porbo at one time and then continuing at Janine Clement's 23 years of service assistant principal
at borba Denise RH seven years elementary teacher Butterfield Virginia agular 18 years of a Lial teacher Christine bani 32 years Elementary at Lidle Dana Mills 40 years of service Wickman Jerry Ryan 177 years of service social science teacher at Townsen Ronda fellows love her she was really great on our relationship Council teacher at Ayala High School 25 years of service
Raymond Sheffield 33 years of service PE teacher at Don Lugo and then we have Joyce the other half of the fedt Joyce fedo 29 years of service admin secretary Pamela page 28 years of service special ed Kim Styler 10 years of service special ed Iva or Eva Costa 29 years of service special ed Linda l 10 years of service and I
apologize if I'm destroying your names uh Central Kitchen assistant towns in junior high heat H Mohammad 8 years of service service special ad at aala LEL Shia 10 years of service special ad Isabelle shal 27 years of service career center guidance Tech at Don Lugo Maria quo 20 years of service custodian maintenance Karen Diaz 21 years of
service District student record specialist and I have to ditto uh Mrs Fikes I am hopeful that um csca act District that we properly recognize our employees as we had in the past um I also am a member of the Roop commission and last night we gave we handed out pins for five years and 10 years and uh
gave a beautiful gift for a gentleman who is retiring and so I think it's and I'm not saying that we have to do all that but we have to have something that we had in the past because we used to have those nice dinners for our for our employees and and I'm hopeful that we can uh do that
again okay moving on so um congratulations to all of you to all the retirements and um have a great time so graduations as always I have to Echo is spectacular and I tend to compare our graduations when I go to other districts and I'll tell you what ours outshines the other districts and so great job by all the individuals who put them
together now I want to make a comment that may not be popular but I am a firm believer in um everyone having equal um as we're a unified school district I think that all our students should have equal at all our schools and tonight the term parody was used and so I thought how perfect is that so tonight under
consent and then we're having a new principal at Townsen Junior High and I'm bringing this up so sorry so um this evening under consent towns and Junior High had um painting for metal book lockers and I question why do we still have lockers at Townsen when we don't have lockers at any of our other schools um we approved $29,000 to paint
these lockers and so I inquired prior to the board meeting and it's my understanding that it's going to be very costly to remove the lockers because of what's behind them and um I'm not certain how often we paint and and how often we pay out the 29,000 but perhaps down the road there can be some discussion um in regards to this
lock to those lockers so that if one school has them then they all have them or no schools have if one school or most of them don't have them then none of them should have them and so that's just my little two cents and again I'm I'm All About parody so with that I just wish that everyone has a great summer thank you
