UNKNOWN 0:11:30

a lucky enough the event last 16 years my work 10 years before that was my predecessor Perry Hall who was my teacher and we work very hard to look over those 26 years that have a very nice strong man tradition at Magnolia and celebrate that this is our anthem this is Mustang [Music] [Applause] thank you again for having us it's been

UNKNOWN 0:14:00

a pleasure nice great job and I love the uniforms you guys look sharp one quick aside I would like to salute you for what you're doing at our junior high it's very difficult when you only have two years to pull a band together and it takes a tremendous amount of effort and I appreciate it we thank you

UNKNOWN 0:16:16

and next I would like to invite Tim Adams from school portraits to share the good news about the generosity of everyone who participated in our annual golf scholarships tournament and maybe before you begin mr. Adams should just let them sit in the file in an exit down mr. spikes mr. Joseph school board cabinet starting to wonder if you guys

UNKNOWN 0:18:19

golf tournament that raises money for this high school seniors here in the district this is our ninth annual golf tournament and we're here tonight to present the proceeds from the golf tournament and I talked to mr. Joseph at the golf tournament we had a goal going into this golf tournament this year and we we had to hit a $25,000 mark and that

UNKNOWN 0:18:44

would have put us over the 250 thousand dollar mark for the nine years and who did it so this year were we raised I have to get the check hold on so this year we raised twenty-seven thousand eight hundred and eighty seven dollars which is really awesome because it puts us over their market it nailed our goal

UNKNOWN 0:19:12

that we tried for for this golf tournament but I know mr. Joseph's leaving this year and we told him at the golf tournament he's going to be an honorary guest from here on out so you're welcome to come and play golf for this next job that's right we're gonna start a Hawaii fun for you so I do want

UNKNOWN 0:19:37

to say acknowledge a few people I want to acknowledge my wife Sally huge I get it I get to stand up here and fumble with my words and make a fool out of myself and she's and get all the credit she's the one that did all the work but I also want to thank all of our administrators all of our PTAs from our

UNKNOWN 0:20:00

local schools elementary junior high schools that took the time to put the baskets together sometimes I wonder if they even know what we're doing with them but the every year they come out and support us and it's amazing because we couldn't do that without their support so and our and our local businesses and all the folks that came

UNKNOWN 0:20:17

out and played golf so I just want to acknowledge him so thanks for letting us do this I hopefully will be here next year doing the same thing please don't put me after the kids because that's always tough to follow so but thank you and it's an honor for us I appreciate it thank you you're supported this is

UNKNOWN 0:20:35

unprecedented and it's a really nice event for those who haven't had the opportunity to participate it's a great event they do a great job organized well and so absolutely thank you now dr. Park would you introduce the final presentation all right almost ready okay members Madam President members of the board superintendent Joseph cabinet and community we have our

UNKNOWN 0:21:33

sixth update to the board on our local control and accountability plan our annual update this evening will be on El Cap goal to goal El Cap goal one which ties to state priority one basic services state priority to the implementation of state standards and priority 7 which is course access here's a highlight of our actions and services

UNKNOWN 0:22:01

to actualize El Cap goal one which is for all students to be provided a high quality teaching and learning environment the division of human resources attended six recruitment fairs this year to recruit highly qualified staff especially in the areas that are hard to fill like math and science our elementary and secondary departments have a process to review and adopt

UNKNOWN 0:22:29

current textbooks to be aligned with state standards through our deferred maintenance program we have a process to regularly and routinely address our facility needs in technology there's a systematic effort to replace and procure technology equipment through our Universal gate services and screening efforts that we have we have more students that have qualified for gate additionally with the newer Common Core

UNKNOWN 0:23:01

Standards all staff have benefited from staff development that's taken place at the district and also at the site with the assistance of our instructional coaches and finally to ensure that our students have access to a high quality learning environment we ensure that they have a broad course of study to review the nine measurable outcomes that we have to gauge our

UNKNOWN 0:23:26

progress with El Cap goal one will have our directors Maggie button our director of technology and information services and dr. Julian Rodriguez our director of secondary curriculum and instruction to review those outcomes with you we're not having been met for at least two years there are nine annual measurable outcomes to evaluate our progress of bull one credential teachers in the 17

UNKNOWN 0:24:04

and 18 school year 100% of our teachers had appropriate credentials for the grade level and for subject area they were assigned to teach at the time of reporting we had four teacher vacancies which is the equivalent of 0.3% we have met our desired outcome the facilities report in 1718 we're happy to report than 100 percent of our facilities

UNKNOWN 0:24:26

received a good received a good or higher rating as measured by the facilities inspection tool we have met our desired outcome standards aligned materials in 1718 100 percent of our schools reviewed have sufficient textbooks and instructional materials according to the Williams site reviews we've met our desired outcome implementation of State Standards those findings reported to the board on March

UNKNOWN 0:24:54

15th by dr. Rodriguez Luke Hackney and Grace Lee we've met our desired outcome there as well now for the fun stuff our bowl is that all teachers staff and students have access to updated technology that's four years old or newer in order to accomplish this task the district is implemented a refreshed program with the Refresh program we

UNKNOWN 0:25:18

review existing site technology inventory replaced devices laptops as a student desktops teacher student devices there are over four years old currently 100% of teachers and staff have at least one computer or desktop that is five years old or newer 70% of our teachers have at least one device computer or laptop provided to them that is three years old or newer the Refresh program

UNKNOWN 0:25:45

is also used to update and provide additional laptops laptop carts and updates to computer labs for students student devices are continuously purchased and deployed to support the increased need for technology for all of our students we've met our desired outcome in technology and I'm excited to announce it in the 1819 school year we'll be launching a Google pilot eight

UNKNOWN 0:26:08

elementary school sites have been selected and each of the classrooms at those eight elementary sites will be receiving 210 Chromebooks and charging cabinets per classroom at the secondary level each of the intervention courses each of the intervention classes will be receiving ten Chromebooks and a charging cabinet as well so about thirty Chromebooks per site at the secondary

UNKNOWN 0:26:32

level as of July 1st all sites will also be increasing of receiving an increase to their current bandwidth allocations look elementary they'll be moving from a one-game allocation to about a five gig allocation we're standardizing for Elementary's across the district at the secondary sites we're moving from a one to five gig connection to a standard 10 gig for the secondary sites we're also

UNKNOWN 0:26:54

working really closely with our wireless vendor or robot to review and straighten our current wireless infrastructure with that I'd like to introduce dr. Rodriguez our director of secondary curriculum he will be reviewing the remaining measurable outcomes with you good evening so in our effort to accurately identify our gate students we began Universal screening in 2015 and 16 and that

UNKNOWN 0:27:21

Universal screening really means Universal all second graders are getting screened and have an opportunity to be identified as gate students and so the numbers on this slide represent from 2014-15 our pre Universal screening numbers and as you can see for the past three years we've steadily increased over the past three years the percentage as well as a true number of students who

UNKNOWN 0:27:47

are being identified as gate students and these numbers are important to watch because you know let's remember that when we first started this we talked a lot about the research that says about 10 percent of the students out there are our gate students and so you can see we were below that number in 2014-15 and we've increased to above that number 11

UNKNOWN 0:28:07

nearly eleven point seven students so on this slide we really it really is about the broad course of study which essentially means that we ensure that all Chino Valley students have access to and our and our require I'm sorry have access to and then take or enroll in all of the required courses that are adopted by the L EA and within that broad course

UNKNOWN 0:28:33

of study we're gonna look at two specific numbers one has to do with our music program and the second one has to do with CTE and so across the across the board for elementary music we've been fortunate enough to be able to maintain 12 music teachers that serve grades two through six over the last four years the

UNKNOWN 0:28:50

music program continues to expand and now we even have orchestra at some of our at six of our elementary schools so that's pretty impressive and then as well as that we're able to sup to supplement and enhance our secondary music programs and so that's really important to all of those items that fill up a music room if you've ever been

UNKNOWN 0:29:10

through a band room or a music room stands cases sheet music all of that we've been able to enhance and supplement if you go to it over to Donna legally you'll even see at two marimbas so a lot of sad to Google that to figure out its I see some quiz but it's it's pretty impressive so and and then finally over here with

UNKNOWN 0:29:33

on the CTE members what you're gonna see are the percentage of students who who are participating in concentrator courses and finishing those concentrator courses and if you recall from our last presentation the concentrate of course is that course that you take in order to take the capstone course which will complete a pathway and that's important so that concentrator course really does

UNKNOWN 0:29:54

provide you the skills necessary to finish off that career technical education and so in 1617 our base numbers were are right up there you can see and that was pretty impressive and as you can see across the board district-wide as well as at each high school we have a pretty good percentage increase in the number of students and

UNKNOWN 0:30:14

the percentage of students who are participating in that this really is the result of a lot of behind the scenes work across from the sites the administrators the teachers the even our information services team it's it's the result of a lot of collaboration among all across the district to get those numbers up and with that it's answers

UNKNOWN 0:30:59

mr. Cruz no non-universal screening that includes verbal verbal assessments and also what else so the screener actually is really interesting because we're doing it with second graders and we wanted to use the least biased type of assessment that we have it's actually a non text it's a computer-based test it's given one-on-one and it's a visual test and it

UNKNOWN 0:31:20

tests in it so there's there's not any text to read it's been touted and the research shows that it's the least not only academically biased but culturally biased s that's an assessment that's out there yes we do actually we're very one of the one of the nice outcomes of this are the percentage of students the increase in the number of students that

UNKNOWN 0:31:49

we like to call multi gifted really the those are students who sometimes are not only gate but our eat our English learners in in those numbers we even have what we call triple gifted students that are gate Els and special education so yes yes we do have students with IEP s that are identified it's very good yeah

UNKNOWN 0:32:10

and that was a choice that you guys made a choice to have a universal screening that is nonverbal to take into account that segment of population that they may not have the skill set yeah with with with the vision of mr. Joseph as well as well as the department to accurately identify and really appropriately identify those students out there who

UNKNOWN 0:32:38

may not have had the opportunity all sectors are testicles too person how's that will to pursue anything they're going to pursue anything so this builds confidence to be eight students and if they didn't have this type of Universal screening they wouldn't be in it never having that opportunity so that's very good mr. Nam yeah I just like to thank our our music

UNKNOWN 0:33:19

teachers and our music program where students and all the parents all comes together not only to celebrate and learn but also appreciating our opportunities for our students to do something more than just studying or be on your iPhone yes that's the major concern with my kids too I confess it but the more things that we can provide outside their

UNKNOWN 0:33:54

own room is very beneficial for everyone but also you're not missing this life this life is full of opportunities the challenges and looking into matters from the past we learn and feature we can build so let's keep going with strong music programs and also a program where kids learn to think outside of their boxes and open their eyes but future look at

UNKNOWN 0:34:27

about our driverless cars I recently read and some product where you could create water through the panels and I heat can you imagine we could go into a desert area and not worry about water so these things are happening so let's continue to support our students outside of their classroom setting thank you I just want to thank you for a really

UNKNOWN 0:35:05

short and precise report and I noticed that on one of those Donna Lugo was leading was that last one CTU yes Donna Lagos doing good job I do have a question about the Chromebooks in three different classes with ten Chromebooks in each class of course that's not going to accommodate all the students what is the plan it'll be about

UNKNOWN 0:35:43

three to three students to one device in the because it has to do with the instructional model in those courses those are for our read 180 and a half one eighty courses so that instructional model means that we have about a third of the class and that's a smaller sized course so and you know your your key

UNKNOWN 0:36:03

numbers are about twenty to twenty-five students so you would have a third of the class working on computers you have a third engaging and one-on-one instruction with the or small group instruction with the with the teacher and then a third doing independent work so they're not always on that on that device we chose to do it with the

UNKNOWN 0:36:19

intervention course because it allows it allowed us to really pilot maybe I misunderstood I thought you were saying that was at the elementary school to expand the pilot as we go we just since Google's a new platform that we're introducing to the district we wanted to make sure to take a slow and controlled approach to things so that we didn't

UNKNOWN 0:36:43

just overwhelm everyone with a lot of new technology that they're unsure of how to use so why we're working with professional development team and the curriculum team to make sure that it's rolled out in a way that is embraced and is useful for instruction in the classroom okay thank you baby steps yes looking at El Cap as a general does it

UNKNOWN 0:37:06

also include our special ed population and support for them yes it does in one manner it will address the academic needs the social needs and through our El Cap advisory committees recommendation will also be bringing forward a program to address some behavioral needs that that we know that would be successful so that some of our specials some of our students with

UNKNOWN 0:37:38

disabilities can have greater access to a broad course of study and also do yet so I mean do we inquire are parents to give us input - yes okay I want to make sure that we get inputs from our own parents - yes gifted because this is that foundation work it could lead to dentistry medical school those chances

UNKNOWN 0:38:15

right so they're being recognized as gifted so that means a lot thank you very much for your presentation we are now at comments from our student representative Jonah good evening no I don't have any comments for tonight but I would like to share with the board that next year I will be attending the School of Business at NYU and that is all I have for

UNKNOWN 0:38:49

tonight you have our heartfelt congratulations John I hope you got good clothes we're now at comments from employee representative Steve ball a CT president good evening last month at a California Teacher Association dinner community awards were presented by the local chapters and this is an award that goes to a community member or organization recognizing their support for public

UNKNOWN 0:39:34

education and this year AC T's recipient was Naomi Minogue Naomi's always been an actively involved parent in her teacher or parent-teacher organizations at her daughter's schools and she founded the group concerned parents and citizens of CV USD she's always been an advocate for our students for our teachers and for our district and I was extremely pleased to be able

UNKNOWN 0:40:01

to present her with this award so thank you Naomi I don't think she's here tonight I also want to congratulate 6th grade teacher and a CT sight rep Rob McCullough Rob was nominated by his administration at Walnut for the San Bernardino County Education Medal of Honor Rob's a great teacher he always goes the extra mile to fulfill the needs

UNKNOWN 0:40:27

of his students and he's certainly worthy of this honor so congratulations Rob and lastly tomorrow is the 19th anniversary of the shootings at Columbine and the California Teachers Association and the National Education Association are recognizing tomorrow as the national day of action against the gun violence in our schools now teachers just like every other group don't necessarily all agree

UNKNOWN 0:41:05

what those actions need to be but I think we're all in agreement that the status quo is unacceptable so a CT is happy to lend its support and our voices to our legislators to say no more enough is enough and the time for meaningful action to support and protect our students is now thank you is mrs. Farley in the

UNKNOWN 0:41:35

audience or a representative good evening madam president board members superintendent mr. Joseph cabinet members and community this past weekend champ sent for administrators to Sacramento for access legislative action day Tom Remo Tom magazine Karina Hazuki and myself had the opportunity to stand alongside hundreds of administrators at the State Capitol to speak with the legislators about two bills that may

UNKNOWN 0:42:15

impact education our Chino Valley administrators had the opportunity to speak with Assemblyman Freddy Rodriguez and others in hopes to support our students here at Chino Valley Assembly Bill 2808 was discussed in hopes that California will continue to fund education via local control funding formula this bill will establish a higher base grant starting the 2019 2020 fiscal year and it also includes an

UNKNOWN 0:42:47

increase to our supplemental and concentration grant amount our conversations were aimed towards the governor and legislature to establish new lcff targets during this budget cycle I am a little short I'm sorry the second bill that was discussed was a b12 twenty which addresses extending the probationary period for teachers this will provide a probationary teacher they teaching candidate shall be observed

UNKNOWN 0:43:16

coached and/or mentored and provided feedback for three years this third year gives teachers additional professional development and support to develop skills to provide positive impact for student learning in the classrooms as an active member of champ I am grateful we are grateful for the opportunity to represent the district at la action day thank you Danny Hernandez CSEA president good evening president

UNKNOWN 0:44:00

Pike's superintendent Joseph Borden cabinet I just wanted number one to let you guys know that we have kicked off our member unity program this past Tuesday myself and three other members went out to visit our night custodians I wanted to say give a special thank you to HR they gave them the heads up to give us to let

UNKNOWN 0:44:22

them know that we were going to be visiting them just to share that it had been quite some time before any CSEA representative had gone out to see them because of the shifts that they work they were very appreciative of not only the time that was given but that we were actually there to hear from them and

UNKNOWN 0:44:39

hear their concerns which we shared with HR this afternoon lately there seems to be quite a bit of a tack on public and private sector unions and it comes from all areas but a lot of the things that we take for granted that I think all of us have is what the labor union from its inception has fought for that again we

UNKNOWN 0:45:03

might take for granted it could be sick leave vacation child labor laws workplace safety laws the five day work week maternity leave benefits and Pensions when we bring that up a lot of times people say well I don't have those things they don't apply to me and our response to them each time is why not somebody fought for our rights

UNKNOWN 0:45:28

to have those that's that fight does not stop every single time when group sit in negotiations it's exactly that it's a negotiations to keep these rights to make sure that those protections stay in place and with that that concludes my comments [Applause] we are now at comments from community liaisons I did hear from mr. Bennett that he was not able to come tonight

UNKNOWN 0:45:57

did did Brian just attend no okay mr. Rodriguez are you in the audience no mr. Krieger mean the rest of the board and the staff so I'm I'm not mr. Rodriguez I'm his field representative and I'm here today to provide some background some background on a particular specific piece of legislation and I believe I have provided some

UNKNOWN 0:46:33

packets there so it's there it's there for you so for this piece of legislation to give you some background last year the Assemblymember requested the stated auditor to investigate California s cady 12 K through 12 schools and their readiness to respond to violent incidents including the threat of an active shooter regrettably the auditor found that many schools and

UNKNOWN 0:46:57

their district offices lack safety procedures to ensure students and staff are kept safe during violent incidents this is partly because state law does not specifically require schools to include procedures for responding to active shooter events in their school safety plans the lack of procedures included lockdowns faculty and student trainee periodic drilling policies for notifying teachers of dangerous students

UNKNOWN 0:47:26

and creating disaster response procedures for students with disabilities so in response to this the Assemblymember decided to author Assembly Bill 1747 this year he believes that there's a necessity for schools to develop safety plans that establish preparation and proper response to violent incidents including as active shooters specifically the bill will require schools to involve mental health professionals and law enforcement in the

UNKNOWN 0:47:55

planning evaluation and implementation process of the procedures regardless of whether these individuals are employed by the school district or County Office of Education additionally this bill will direct the Department of Education to provide information on best practices for safety plans and ensure that the plants keep pace with evolving school environments and updated educational research the department will be required

UNKNOWN 0:48:21

to post these best practices for reviewing and approving school safety plans on their website since it's passed the Education Committee the bill was amended to include charter schools in the requirement to conduct annual active shooter drills in order to provide the same level of preparedness and safety safety to people attending those schools removing the requirement that the school

UNKNOWN 0:48:45

safety plans compliance checklists be specifically on the homepage of the department website was also another amendment so the assembly member is dedicated to ensuring the public safety especially when it comes down to the children this bill will provide safer learning environments where children can grow and thrive now I know I provided a lot of information there but one thing I

UNKNOWN 0:49:09

would like for everybody to take is that we the Assemblymember believes that having the community have some input of course with the board and of course the staff as well would be more meaningful for this bill so he definitely wants the district to be vocal about what they think so I also have what I provided to the board I have extra copies if the

UNKNOWN 0:49:35

community wishes to have some I was hoping I could leave them in the front but other than that if you have any particular questions we'd be more than happy to connect you with the legislative staff who can give you those details so other than that thank you for your time thank you I see Melissa company is here from mr.

UNKNOWN 0:50:00

hagman's office do you have a report tonight thank you we are now at comments from the audience on items not on the agenda Pat are there any requests to speak on non-agenda item 14 request to speak speakers will be called in the order the request was received please listen for your name and be prepared to approach the podium any comments on

UNKNOWN 0:50:24

UNKNOWN 0:56:05

horrific acts now I mention this in light of recent events such as parkland because our family has for quite a while been concerned about school safety as a community member of the measure G citizens Oversight Committee it's important to see the emphasis placed on school safety as the committee reviews the modernization projects as well as the plans for the new Chino high campus

UNKNOWN 0:56:27

for our students and staff safety must always be a priority thank you Mark Hargrove followed by Bob Whitmore followed by Noah Centeno good evening president bikes board superintendent so I came here for one specific reason to talk about principal for a day and an event that happened but then as kind of the night goes on things really kind of start hitting me about

UNKNOWN 0:57:01

this and that and so on so one of the things that hit me was with mr. Jenkins and the band there you know reminds me of my daughter's my two oldest daughters going through there and as one has just finished her master's degree and the other is about to complete it I feel such a gratitude to those programs at

UNKNOWN 0:57:18

Magnolia the band at Chino high school mr. Bowden and even back to Perry Hall who just gave that to my daughter that that foundation to you know stay steady and do the right thing and so I really appreciate seeing them here tonight the other thing is then I wanted to talk about prints for today thank you again

UNKNOWN 0:57:37

to the district for such a great event I had the opportunity to be there for many years working down at the prison and bringing the warden and but I never really got to do it myself so now that I'm retired and don't work there I got to go on my own thank you again so much I thought wow

UNKNOWN 0:57:53

they're giving me Chino high school so I know everything about you know high school I've been there a million times but what I didn't know was when you go as the principal it's a whole different world and so I got to see things with the terrific principal John Miller over there who again I guess mr. Joseph if

UNKNOWN 0:58:09

you selected him then we owe you some gratitude for that because what a great guy to follow behind Felix Melendez who did a great job there and on and on one of the things that comes to mind is I I'm not sure why you're leaving now mr. uh Joseph you know and leaving such a district I thought I usually I only get to come up

UNKNOWN 0:58:29

here and talk about things that this is wrong and this is wrong I don't I don't come up here anymore I don't know if that's just me losing my interest in that or not but principal for a day so one of the things I will absolutely advocate on behalf of what I saw with the administration the teachers the all

UNKNOWN 0:58:47

the staff that work there are secretaries the culinary all of them as I say 10% raise first of next year absolutely deserve it go ahead and grab that mr. Joseph on your way out that'd be forever grateful for you and I might even put a statue so thank you for that event it was just terrific to see

UNKNOWN 0:59:15

the things that were going on there and I mean I was only there three or four hours and the first thing I did was hit Starbucks got off so I'll get to real quickly as I met some terrific students at the end mr. Miller set up with the leadership there ASB and the class president one of the things that we

UNKNOWN 0:59:29

talked about was then billing Luchino high so I absolutely would implore that we somehow engaged them they said they haven't had the opportunity to even discuss the new school coming in so please if we could look at that and maybe just entertain them so they understand that they had some input they were talking about the quad area what

UNKNOWN 0:59:48

it'll be like and will they have a stage there like they do now so that's what I would like to advocate for them so thank you so much thank you Bob Whitmore followed by Noah Centeno followed by Lisa Centeno mr. Joseph board cabinet I guess what I wanted to talk about being a teacher of Magnolia thank you we love

UNKNOWN 1:00:10

hearing stuff like that about our school as many of you know I'm retiring very soon and it was my hope to come back in six months and sub two or three days a week and I found out recently that not too long ago that six-month period was changed to 18 months that a retiree has to wait to sub I have no idea why I've

UNKNOWN 1:00:38

asked several people they don't know is this accurate first of all and if so why we have a shortage of substitutes in this district something awful I don't know how many times recently at Magnolia alone teachers who do have prep periods unlike myself have had to go cover other classes because we didn't get coverage for a sub for one of our staff members

UNKNOWN 1:01:05

being out whatever reason you're missing out on a valuable resource retired teachers we know what we're doing and since there's such a shortage seems to me that whatever logic went into that decision to change that from 6 to 18 months was flawed and that needs to be looked at again I would love to come back and sub

UNKNOWN 1:01:37

two or three days a week in six months in 18 months no I will be too comfortable okay that's all I got thank you Bob thank you NOAA sentinel followed by Lisa Santana followed by Valerie Quinn hello my name is Noah Centeno and I'm a sophomore at Ayala high school this was my first year at the school academically the school is

UNKNOWN 1:02:10

great but I couldn't have been more disappointed in the basketball program I believe the basketball players ayala deserve a fresh start to the to the basketball program they deserve to have a program run by a coach that knows how the condition train and develop as a concerned student I would like to suggest Stephan giling for the position

UNKNOWN 1:02:27

of varsity coach not only is coach Stefan and alumini from Ayala he has a CIF record of 16 oh I have trained with coach Stefan and he is such a positive role model he believes in every player out there he works hard to develop each and every one of us I believe coach Stefan would turn the ayala basketball program into a

UNKNOWN 1:02:44

program that I'd be excited and proud to be part of thank you Lissa Sentinel followed by Valerie Quinn followed by Sebastian Neto hi good evening and thank you for having us I'd like to thank you for giving Ayala an opportunity to have a fresh start for a varsity coach and a program however I would really hope that

UNKNOWN 1:03:15

everyone would take into consideration and listening to the students voice on who that coach might be we've had a lot of letters of recommendation on who the coach should be presented to the principal at Ayala and also here at the district as a very concerned parent last year the program was extremely negative on for the parents and especially for

UNKNOWN 1:03:35

the players I would like to strongly recommend Stephane gilling for the varsity head coach he is a fantastic coach he is a great role model he knows how to train these kids to get these kids to the next level not only that he cares for each and every player we have a lot of students who are M players who are

UNKNOWN 1:03:56

academically strive to go to college and to also play high to play college basketball as well in order to achieve those goals for those players they need a strong coach to make that happen for them and I truly believe that coach Stefan Gillen can make this happen for these kids not only that last year it was our first year at the school and we

UNKNOWN 1:04:19

had lost apparently a lot of players because of the way the program had ran and so I do believe there are a lot of other students out there that are willing and wanting to come back to this program if it is going to be run ran properly so I really hope that you consider the parents strong voice and

UNKNOWN 1:04:36

the voice of the students we have a lot of students here that could not be able to make it but I really hope that you I have a resume and a lot of letters of recommendation and I really hope that you read each and every one of them and consider and to be the new varsity coach thank you Thank You Valerie

UNKNOWN 1:04:56

who is Roe I believe it is Marco Mario quiz Roe and Sebastian cognero my name is Valerie Kira I'm curious so my child it's been at Briggs for six years and he's currently recipient or was the recipient of IEP I spoke two years ago at the board meeting Andrew Cruiser mentioned regarding the AL cap that you are really you comment

UNKNOWN 1:05:30

about the special ed and a gift it and how I'm having these tools we're gonna have access to these children to help them better and I appreciate that and I hope you meant that because as a parent having a child who has deficiencies in audiology in pathology as well as visual issues and having the district send my

UNKNOWN 1:05:51

child out for all these assessments the district has failed and shown negligence as far as providing services for my child under the umbrella of IEP and they have not given a vape for my child either which is very confusing and very sad as a parent to see my child go through this he has been doing well and

UNKNOWN 1:06:13

I say he's been doing well because of his parents me and my husband have been working very hard just for him at home physically emotionally and I'm very ashamed that the district has shown and wasted taxpayer dollars not just my child but other students and has shown negligence in this part because my child has severe deficiencies that the

UNKNOWN 1:06:35

audiology pathology as well as the visual doctor when the assessed UM's shown that they had visual assessments that need it to be done audio audio assesses you have you done with pathology and your solution to this problem in this issue is to get my child psychology support to me that's disgusting he doesn't need emotional support he can

UNKNOWN 1:07:00

handle these matters he's done so far so good he hasn't broken it yet he's had in several issues where he's broken down at home because he doesn't get the homework but let's get to the root of the problem here the root of the problem is he needs support and I'm sure that's just not my child but there's other children within

UNKNOWN 1:07:16

the district that have this and me the support also as parents it's so sad to see this brush turn on the rug brushed on the rug brushing the rug over and over again six years that's a long time he's halfway through his school years and so I would like to have answers as far as what's what's gonna be the solution to his

UNKNOWN 1:07:37

problems and I'm sure your taxpayers dollars also want to know where their money is going and while you're staring parents out for assessments and not granting these doctors who are licensed professionals you know the recommendations thank you thank you Mario Kairos followed by Sebastian Cook Neto followed by Samantha odo good evening so just the echo some of the things we've

UNKNOWN 1:08:12

been going through you know my wife and I have sat through over the last five years several IEP meetings were goals were recommended goals were met but no progress falling behind falling behind and something just didn't add up why why weren't the goal why were the goal be met but you had no improvement in the actual classwork

UNKNOWN 1:08:32

so we just you know one plus one is always two no matter how way you kind of add it and so we hired an advocate because we were curious to know how can we bridge the gap as parents how do we provided help for our son that he needs so then the recommendation was made for him to go out to testing he tested each

UNKNOWN 1:08:49

professional set he's severely deficient and made recommendation as far as what he needed and they all it's all been recorded - in case you guys want to hear it as far as if he received this then he would be able probably to at some point maybe start to catch up thanks parents it's exciting to hear those news but

UNKNOWN 1:09:10

then when the school teacher replies with a no they continue to want to stay in the same course we wonder why and all this money's being spent and it was interesting to hear all the programs in place all the hard work that's been done by many people but yet when a need is is seen it's not addressed and we wonder

UNKNOWN 1:09:30

why why is that how can we sleep at night knowing that there's children who have a need the need has been assessed and but yet there's no follow-through that's what we wonder his parents mr. Cruz mentioned something that I really thought was really nice was the will of the will to learn and my son thankfully has the wheel to learn

UNKNOWN 1:09:51

and that's why today he's fine he continues to fight every every teacher he has you can speak with any teacher they are so impressed because he's bite and he kicks and he scratches for everything even though he's far behind because he has the will to learn all you need now is the tools he needs to progress and we want to know why those

UNKNOWN 1:10:09

tools are not being met thank you for your time thank you Sebastian Sebastian cognero followed by Samantha odo followed by desi back sky good evening board members super-tender Joseph cabinet it's nice to see you all again I recognize the important work you're doing it's essential to the community so I promise not to use up my three minutes

UNKNOWN 1:10:34

I'm going to keep it short just a quick update and update and expression of gratitude for certain things as kinds of out from the last few months since we where since I was last up here um I'd love to first express my gratitude for the relationship that's forth between the superintendent and deputy superintendent I've been able to meet

UNKNOWN 1:10:52

with them a couple times over the last few months I appreciate our frank and honest and direct discussions it helpful and getting us off the ground and moving forward and getting our charter school opened they appreciate that as well as the prop 39 offer we're grateful and humbled by the facilities offer and look forward to to making that campus shine

UNKNOWN 1:11:11

for the community lastly as for as far as this list of things that I can go on but the last one I include in my expression of gratitude is we recently learned we'll be part of the furniture and equipment tied to the recent bond so appreciate that it's a telling of this districts inclusion of us and seen as a

UNKNOWN 1:11:34

part of the educational landscape in Chino Valley which is what we want to do so thank you all for that as well a quick update we recently learned that we would be the first charter to be accepted into the desert Mountain Sabha it's an honor for us that's not an easy sell and to be welcomed into that that selpa

UNKNOWN 1:11:53

as the first new charter is telling of the great team that we're putting together and their knowledge and expertise and vision for learning at our school we recently held our first lottery a lot of buzz around around town about about about our school and there's a great turnout and it's learned over 900 applicants for the school is really

UNKNOWN 1:12:15

telling and humbling and with that you know lastly I just wanted to kind of segue from the lottery discussion to it was a reminder of what is important to us about who we are and who we are not I'm going to be really clear and at every moment we're speaking to stakeholders whether it's parents or new staff that are coming on and the lottery

UNKNOWN 1:12:31

was an opportunity for this really explicit that we are not reopening any school we're allegiance we're we're a new school we're different than what a lot of folks I'm learning have a mindset about what allegiance may represent well it is not the the reopening of any school I'm picking every opportunity to to make that clear and I want to make

UNKNOWN 1:12:50

sure that that was shared with you who we are is really we want to be seen as part of the educational landscape in this district thank you guys have a great night thank you Samantha odo followed by desi backs key followed by Peter Atwood thank you I wanted to thank you guys for your continued support and allegiance and getting us up

UNKNOWN 1:13:14

running along the way and we're looking forward to continuing continuing a positive relationship between allegiance and CV USD and we're looking forward to moving on thank you thank you does he back sky followed by Peter Atwood followed by frank el faro school board and cabinet members my name is Desi bashkai and I also wanna offer my support for a Stefan giling as the head

UNKNOWN 1:13:44

varsity coach at IL a high school as some of the students and parents have mentioned earlier the last year at a Yala the environment there was not a positive one for the for the students and for the players and I want to just like I said recommend stepping gilang as a head varsity coach for a couple years he's a humble man

UNKNOWN 1:14:10

he's a man of integrity he but he also knows how to inspire these young men and get the most out of them he's also a native he's a resident he went to grade school elementary school and high school here he still holds records at Al high school he's played d1 at Colorado State in Long Beach State so you know in the

UNKNOWN 1:14:35

private sector when you're looking to promote you always good companies promote from within they always look for you know opportunities for their existing members to move on and achieve greater goals he's right here he's he's local he's here he wants the job he loves coaching these kids love playing for him I mean not like they love playing for him he knows how to motivate

UNKNOWN 1:15:00

them he's he's very unique in that he knows how to motivate but and get to them but without curscene without insulting but these kids these I should say young men they respond and so I like I said he's it's my recommendation for him as a head coach thank you thank you Peter Peter Atwood followed by Frank Alfaro followed by Sabrina Rhett Reza

UNKNOWN 1:15:35

good evening I'm here to talk as usual about special education and what's happening the AC T president talked about violence in schools and so forth I want to mention that a principal cause of this is quite obvious Nikolas Cruz who killed 17 people in Florida was a needed special education services of the right sort they ignored until they

UNKNOWN 1:15:58

finally kicked him out Adam Lanza who killed 20 first-graders in Newtown Connecticut and six teachers his mother had been asking for the district to take care of her special education needs since he was in second grade so they blew him off for ten years and so in the end they they made the big time this district I worked probably by 2530

UNKNOWN 1:16:25

districts this district where it comes to special ed teachers is about among the four or five most advert malicious and determined to deny me and deny services to kids that I deal with it's not the worst cop astronomers course but it's very competitive and so the next time there's a school shooting you can be everybody can keep in mind the Chino

UNKNOWN 1:16:51

Valley is doing its little bit to make sure that that happens because when you deny needs when you deliberately make sure the kids don't get what they need and you hire lawyers to make sure that that happens that's what you're doing now a little report from our part of the forest as you know we have a couple of

UNKNOWN 1:17:10

professing Christians on this board who attend Gino Calvary Chapel Chino Hills so having brought these matters to their attention and to the attention of other people and then we brought it finally to their pastors attention and so then we put out a flyer at the church describing what the issues are from a Christian standpoint before we did that we

UNKNOWN 1:17:35

presented the flyer to those guys ask them if they saw anything on just fractionally incorrect and they did not evidently because they never got back to us neither did Jacobs so there it is they they they know these things they have made nice spoken nice words from here but as we speak they are now litigating against one of my kids and

UNKNOWN 1:18:04

they approve they see how with the spread director has lied about the law and a better the things and they approve it would be more fitting to actually do what Jesus says instead of just talking this the scripture says Jesus said they they rob with those houses and for a pretence then make long prayers now that's not exactly on point thank you

UNKNOWN 1:18:34

it's close enough Frank el faro followed by Sabrina Reza some faces look familiar I'm here on behalf of my grandkid he attends bricks he's in the fourth grade yet I have seen him struggle throughout kindergarten he has made great achievements but at this point please help my grandchild the tools that he needs has already been assessed by a

UNKNOWN 1:19:22

professional listen to that professional and give him the tools that he needs I'm sure he can grow up to be a nice nice young man like John like mr. Patel oh but at this time he needs those tools and is really up to you as board members administrators to help not only their child but many others that are

UNKNOWN 1:19:57

struggling to advance and the achievement that you have promoted for so many years I was part of this group at one time I retired but the fact is that now I'm seeing my child struggle my grandkids struggled I'm letting you know please give him those tools that he needs he's in great need of those tools and like I mentioned

UNKNOWN 1:20:32

to you before I'm sure he can progress he has made great achievements with the help of myself his grandmother mom and dad and many others but teachers have been even acknowledged that with those tools that are available he can really achieve to a greater degree was expected of a student thank you thank you Sabrina Reza members of the board mr.

UNKNOWN 1:21:16

Joseph cabinet I'm Sabrina Reza 1995 alumni of Iowa High School and why you graduate Stern School of Business Loyola Law School graduate I'm here on behalf of and I'm also a parent I know that Iowa High School basketball program has been horrible for the past few years I have names of 45 different players who quit I know that I know that you need to

UNKNOWN 1:21:57

hire first in a teacher we know that but we're also asking you if you can talk to the site and hire who's right for the position we get it we know you have to hire teacher but can you find a teacher who can really teach and coach basketball at the same time we're here to ask you to

UNKNOWN 1:22:24

ask the site to please hire Stefan Gilley he's an alumni he's a great coach the boys love him he's a great motivator he also brings spirituality faith a member of calvary chapel chino hills' this is what I Ellen needs they need to go back to a winning school they're great at academics but if you walk into that

UNKNOWN 1:22:54

school they have a sign that says home of athlete scholars and athletes so we're asking you to ask the site to please hire him he's the perfect fit for the job thank you we are now at changes and deletions patter there any changes or deletions the following changes and deletions are on the agenda ci is item 2

UNKNOWN 1:23:32

UNKNOWN 1:24:36

consent items there are two speakers on the Jo Markel's and aiming the field after Jo Marcos item okay to d8 to d8 board members do you have any pulls mrs. Orozco to d8 to d8 yeah and I have two more that I'm just gonna make a comment on okay to d2 and to d7 okay to d2 is

UNKNOWN 1:25:17

UNKNOWN 1:25:52

consent items may I have a motion so moved second all in favor aye opposed preferential the motion passes with a vote of 4-0 okay Madam President I have another request to speak on item to be for legal services to be for legal services we just we didn't that's okay Hank and speak okay after before okay so shall we

UNKNOWN 1:26:25

Peter Atwood okay a little to say on that but I noticed its chichester which I presume regards the new charter and Atkinson and Olson which is definitely about special one in Fagin Friedman and full frost were the ones who were litigating against the various kids that I know so here's the money that you here's where you're spending your money to hurt these kids

UNKNOWN 1:26:55

and you even have it on the agenda you wouldn't have to spend the money to hurt these kids if you weren't trying so hard to hurt them at this point mrs. Kaler do we take each item and then listen to the speakers or gonna do what all the seekers first pardon do you want to do the two speakers first

UNKNOWN 1:27:22

yes v8 yes so to d8 is on page 86 couldn't hear the speakers and then you'll move at second to vote on it okay thank you Todd Sinclair followed by Eric Wetzel hi my name is Todd Sinclair I'm in coach and on live high school for the last ten years Thanks so yeah I know in the last ten

UNKNOWN 1:27:54

typically a field is dedicated to someone who has long tenure and it's just sexual win win lost records but in this situation is a little different coach sparkles basically designed that field manicured that field maintained that field he has more sweat equity in that field than most coaches do in baseball as you know in baseball you as a team take care

UNKNOWN 1:28:20

of your own field that means including mowing your yard watering yard edging yard it's not something we rely on the district to do Marko's took Joe took so much pride in that but to this day he still comes out we can throw bounce things off him and he comes out and helps us out with it because the last

UNKNOWN 1:28:36

thing he want to do was let allow that field to be less than it was we left and less than it was when he started so the dedication or me this or this field to be dedicated towards him means more for him to take the pride or recognition of the pride he put into that field more so than the win-loss the players came

UNKNOWN 1:28:57

out from sophomores and through and coming on up won't recognize what was done for them part of them getting their the players we have now and those have graduated dunno the efforts because they put in the efforts as well based on his coaching his teaching it goes beyond baseball it goes be the hard work hard dedication to maintaining

UNKNOWN 1:29:17

something that there that's there's players come and go but the field doesn't go doesn't leave and someone has to take care of it and Joe's instilled that in us as well as the players have come through so for that matter I'd like to support the dedication in the field regardless of his name or statue going out there everyone before him will know

UNKNOWN 1:29:37

it was his field but we would like to see something for those coming up who is Joe Marcus he's one who designed this field he's one his wife will tell you there's six IVs on that wall he'll tell you every time he comes out there I planted every tree in the back wall somewhere a pain in the butt but bottom

UNKNOWN 1:29:52

line is they put their their hands in the soil they developed that field it's something stands out it really stands out with them this in the district you take the four fields around it's a beautiful place teams love to come here so I support the dedication thank you thank you Eric Wetzel I came but biggest reasons because I've known the marcos

UNKNOWN 1:30:17

family my whole life Ryan and Joe coach him and my older brother together and Little League all the way up through high school coach Mark Ellis and I played for coach Marcus as well and the biggest thing for me why I came down here is because he had a huge impact on my life just from growing up and what he

UNKNOWN 1:30:39

did for me and our family but I played I played all over the country and one of the coolest things I could say was you know my high school field we had a class I got to take care of our field that Coach Marcos taught and made it you know really a gem and I know players that you

UNKNOWN 1:30:59

know from Orange County and maybe our higher income areas that have better facilities to take care of their place and they didn't have what we had really special so for me it was a lot of it's about just you know how much pride he took into it and you know I look up to him he's a great mentor for me so I

UNKNOWN 1:31:19

think what he's done for that program for all the players that have gone through I'd be something special to you know dedicate that feel to him I think it's thank you so may I have a motion so second any discussion mister risco so I just want to say that Joe Marcos as a person what it what is

UNKNOWN 1:31:50

is a really good great just genuine person and so so let me just let me just say something so I'm not a big fan of naming facilities probably everybody knows that but Joe Marcos is very worthy of it and so I've just got to support it but I would also ask that we have a Hall of Fame

UNKNOWN 1:32:19

called Richard gird educational Hall of Fame and I wish that you also nominate him for that I think it's important for individuals who have gone above and beyond and Joe Marquez definitely did that just a little bit of time that I've known him and I think it's important that we acknowledge them and so not only about Joe Marcos but anybody else out

UNKNOWN 1:32:43

there who you know has gone above and beyond I ask that you acknowledge them by nominating them for the educational Hall of Fame because we're gonna run out of buildings and there's a whole lot of people who have done a lot of good things for our district thank you mr. na yeah Joe Markos what an awesome coach

UNKNOWN 1:33:04

yes he was humble man and everything it wasn't about him but it was about the students so I know that we can say so many things but what's more important is what's in your heart what is your motivation and that's what we want to teach our children and Joe Markos is the one that I could say yes

UNKNOWN 1:33:33

he truly care about the students i and ask the principal I'm so proud of her too there she's sitting down that she's always supporting her staffs so thank you this is what makes our our district unique of being a one family so I would support that 100% thank you hearing no their comments shall we vote on this item

UNKNOWN 1:33:59

absolutely all in favor aye opposed preferential passes for zero [Applause] mrs. Roscoe item 2d to page 39 okay to t2 I just have a general statement to make so tonight these are contracts that we're approving within those contracts is a company for yearbooks anomalies so moved thank you our isn't contract for yearbooks so I would ask the staff

UNKNOWN 1:34:45

look let me back up so years ago I had two boys at two different high schools and so I had the opportunity to see what one child received in their yearbook and what another child received in their yearbook and the cost difference and so I know people were not fans of having one vendor for all four high schools I get that but what I would

UNKNOWN 1:35:15

ask is that staff look at the contracts and make sure that they're equitable for all high schools and I say that because I've got another example so this year I have a senior at a third high school I covered them all because I'm from the fourth high school so this year I have a senior from a fourth the third high

UNKNOWN 1:35:38

school and senior pictures well you know senior pictures are a lot of money because you tend to buy a whole bunch right well for anyone who knows me I have probably the receipts from way back when when they were babies but I had the opportunity to because it was just kind of mind-boggling the dollar amount that was coming up so I went back and I

UNKNOWN 1:36:03

looked at what I ordered for my oldest what I ordered for my middle one and I always try and be even and I keep all this stuff just so that I can't order the same amount so no one can say and I mean the three of them can say that when you did more for this one and you did

UNKNOWN 1:36:18

four B and the oldest one I paid roughly about five hundred dollars I'm sorry wait a minute the oldest one I paid roughly about four hundred dollars the middle one I paid about 350 and went almost 400 for me to try and get the same package because it's a different supplier or a different vendor for me to

UNKNOWN 1:36:46

try and get the same package with what would run me over 800 dollars that's not right it's not right that we have vendors that are making these prices so outrageous and so I would ask the the district staff to if we have different vendors make sure that they're offering the same packages or the same kind of deals and if necessary allow parents to

UNKNOWN 1:37:17

go to the different vendors versus if you're at this school you have to go to this one I just want it to be fair for parents this is not going to help me because I ran out of kids so it's not gonna help me but I want it to help future parents future high school parents future senior parents

UNKNOWN 1:37:34

I've always been an advocate that we're a unified school district and everybody whether you go to school a or school B should get the same packet so you so to speak and that just makes my comment for that one any other comments I would like to add that I would like it to be fair for all parents but I think it is important that

UNKNOWN 1:37:58

there still be individualization from the schools for the people who run these programs I'm not at all happy to hear $400 to $800 so obviously we need supervision there but I think it's important that schools retain the autonomy to make their own choices as they move forward with their graduating classes any of their comments hearing none shall we vote on this item

UNKNOWN 1:38:32

all in favor aye opposed preferential the item passes for C this is a rosca item to d7 page 63 ok and this is just in regards to the modernization projects and I just wanted to what we need I get excited about speaking about these things so this is about the modernization projects and I just wanted to let the public know that

UNKNOWN 1:40:22

eighth there's actually an extensive process I'd like to have dr. Rodriguez give you an overview on what that process looks like it is extensive it lasted well the pilot period itself for the two publications that were chosen to be in the classroom if you recall from from our presentation we piloted the material in nineteen classrooms across the district over fifteen hundred and

UNKNOWN 1:40:49

sixty students got to interact with the materials we had special education involved we had English Learner or LD classrooms involved we met with the piloting committee no fewer than four times and also provided support days when the teachers were piling the material ran into some issues said hey we need some help with assessment called in the publisher we worked with them to

UNKNOWN 1:41:14

do that ultimately we had deliberation day on February 20 pilot ended on February 23rd on February 28th we deliberated we spent all day it's been about six hours with the teachers kind of working through the two publishers that were that were piloted and then we did an anonymous vote and 83 just I think was eighty three point two percent

UNKNOWN 1:45:55

it comes to hiring coaches it does have to go to a teaching staff member first so we can't just go to the site and say disregard that because it it has nothing to do with the site it that's just part of the lang which in the contract and so I just wanted to make sure that they understood

UNKNOWN 1:46:12

that you just can't go to the site and say hey disregard at this time and so just an FYI and with that I will conclude my comments thank you Thank You mr. UNKNOWN 1:47:42

you know the Second Amendment was for that to protect you you know from people that want to hurt you government others from 1998 through 2015 more than 96% of mass public shootings occurred in gun-free zones that's where Freddy Rodriguez should start taking a stand you know it is dangerous to have it publicized that our schools are gun-free and having their

UNKNOWN 1:48:07

children in a very vulnerable position going to school you know we really desire to live in a place that safe that our children can freely feel 100 percent but that will never be the case and that is the whole purpose of the Second Amendment and also I just want to have a moment of silence with with Julie Cooper

UNKNOWN 1:48:52
