safety of chlorinated pools here is a link to our basic plan and presentation will cover the specifics of the pools for Chino Hills High School Chino high school are y'all and Don Mughal High School there's nothing further Thank You Pat doctor I feel I know we don't normally may come in sir at this time but seeing as we've
received such a large number of emails and excess of the names read off for support of an alternative graduation is there any type of update or anything that you could provide us contemporaneous to this topic yes mr. Shafer but first of all let me share with the public because I want all of them to know that all five of the
board members have always been advocating for us to do as much as possible for the graduating class of 2020 and those are private conversations I've had with all of them during this time and I know there's been a tremendous amount of change across the world and everybody is dealing with change in our district is no different we've had to deal with a tremendous
amount of change to our educational system as we try to navigate this new norm that we're calling it the new normal and as part of that the staff and I we're always looking and gathering information as changes are rapidly happening and trying to make the best decisions with the information that we have and always trying to look out for
the safety of our students and our staff as we make those decisions and graduation is one of these many important changes that we've been dealing with as a district and we've been looking at it and continue to look at it and typically I don't get into the sharing stories with the public of events that have happened but I think it
I think this helps give an insight to information that comes to us what we do with the information and how we use that information to help make decisions so I want the public to know that we get at the beginning of this COBIT 19 pandemic the San Bernardino County superintendents of schools Ted Alejandra and under his leadership and with the
San Bernardino County Department of Health we have held several joint meetings with all the superintendent's in the San Bernardino County to discuss the coab at nineteen crisis in our in our in our nation and during that we've talked about guidelines we've talked about schools closures the safety and most recently we've talked about the high school graduation last Thursday on
April 30th the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools in the San Bernardino County Department of Health held another joint meeting regarding guidelines for graduation we were presented with these graduation guidelines and in there there was an option for an in-person graduation and there was a number of questions regarding holding a live graduation with a lot of social distancing restrictions
but after the meeting I contacted another superintendent in another district and we talked about moving forward with this idea we were concerned that it there were some issues with the current order but we were already starting to talk about that after afterwards later that evening I received and along with the other superintendents we received a email from the san san
bernardino county superintendent Tudela hon drake and it was one that he forwarded from the county department of health and in that email it indicated that the information shared with us earlier that day would not be allowed under the current order so the information that was shared with us that we thought we could do they said no it
it would not be allowed with this current order and so the superintendent alejandra said he would be having and hosting another meeting on Monday May 4th and that they would be making changes to the graduation guidelines documents and so this Monday on May 4th I participated in that meeting with the county superintendents of schools along with a number of other superintendents
in our surrounding districts across San Bernardino County during the meeting Ted Alejandra asked a another superintendent to share their plan for a graduation video and in that plan he had shared that the graduation seniors would be allowed to have up to four family members living in the same household to be able to come onto campus would have to practice
social distancing and that they would come to a central location like a gym and that the family would be able to come in and that their students would be able to walk across the stage and then they would be able to take photos with the families and so that was the information that was shared on Monday in
that meeting after the meeting on Monday I reached out to my staff and we met and we looked at the guidelines that came in the new guidelines the updated guidelines and we were somewhat confused because the plans described by the district did not match up with the updated graduation guidelines so on Tuesday March 5th we our district
reached out to the San Bernardino County Department of Health because the new graduation guidelines we received on Monday did not allow for family members to be on campus as described in the updated graduation guidelines on Wednesday evening on May 6 we received notification from the County Health Department regarding the guidelines for an alternative graduation and so that's
the positive news I can tell you that that we did clarify a number of issues with the county that that that I'm excited about but further we wanted to wait until after the governor's speech today to see if there were any changes that would impact any plans that we are looking at that would impact it for the
better and again so we waited through today to hear the governor's information and there was there was nothing in there that would have changed the plan that we're looking at so it's been a priority of this board of and myself to ensure the safety of our students and her staff and during that time also to adhere to the San
Bernardino County Health Order related to cope at 19 we want to make sure that what we do is right and ensure that everyone is safe in that process and so tomorrow Friday May 8th I will be sending out a communication to our families specifically related to our senior class of 2020 graduation thank you doctor and feeling I'm sure there
are a lot of happy people at the moment to hear that information so thank you for the update not a problem moving on now to item I want to have changes and deletions we're not changes in deletions Pat are there any changes or deletions tonight the following changes and deletions are on the agenda item three d 7h six bid 19 20 - 30 F

I'd like to thank our students and our parents in disap endemic era where we're not allowed to see our beloved teachers and staff members in education but hang in there there will be a good news soon hopefully where we can gather together and learn again I had a conversation with one high school teacher who's going through real big health issues last
couple of days ago and it broke my heart he was one of the best teachers on campus loves steel does the Austen about education and he's just going through hardships knowing that I could see that there we are other staff members yes a members chat members who might go through not just Ovid 19 problem but other adult issues
and I had let me know that I'll be with them every day praying for him and hoping that he'll recover from his illness and surgery this is about living living together our asset as a school district is people it's not our buildings it's not our policies but it's people and through a conversation with this great teacher we know that our
students need our teachers their classroom is their education it's not this district office it's not the city hall now it's not even a Sacramento it's the classroom our teachers really do share their lives really guide them and with love so I'd like to thank all of our teachers and and we must have our students be encouraged that our teachers
are with them 24/7 even today I'd like to thank all these Butterfield students and parents who sent an email supporting our teachers and I like to really thank them because this is where it starts our education starts with love and successful life in education and learning technology and skills but as we see today we're missing but human
relationships but they have really played by sending this love letter for our great teacher said boy felt so thank you this is my comment thank you thank you mr. new mr. Cruz yes like swimming like walking like hiking running and cycling is a critical healthy activity within our communities swimming does not require direct contact between teammates or coaches and social
distancing can be maintained throughout practice as with all exercise and activity at this time swimming must comply with standards for social distancing and safety within aquatic facilities you know I do recommend and open up the swimming be great and our children you know they work hard during their educational careers for 12 years bringing the community to here together
and fear does not exist in love act out of unconditional love doing the right thing with your heart and moving forward don't let fear hold us back and we push back fear we're going to be proud and our children and our grandkids what we did in 2020 trust your gut instincts go with your heart and graduation here it
comes thank you thank you mr. Hernandez had to unmute myself okay so I I typically read the resolution or teach appreciation and nurses day and classified employee but I know that for the safety of the staff that it is our board in our board room I I didn't read them but it doesn't mean that those proclamations don't mean
anything we are very appreciative of all of our teachers that dedication that they've shown educate and guide our students under very difficult circumstances thank you for doing your best for our students for to our nurses yesterday was national school nurses day much appreciation to you for ensuring the health for everyone students and making them a priority on
every school site and a huge virtual to our classified school employees who have really slipped up who addressed us imagine being in the front lines and providing meals and promoting health and safety for every student on every campus by maintaining cleanliness in every classroom throughout every school site I really do want to say that during this crisis you have shown much strength and
bravery so thank you CSEA you are the silent heroes many don't talk about and lastly I want to discuss the our graduation because a few of us and I'm not going to speak about you know on behalf of mr. Schaefer or miss gong young but it seemed that in reading the emails and the messages via Facebook that there was a belief that several of
us were not in support of graduation and that couldn't have been furthest from the truth we just following a public-health order that is our duty as elected officials to ensure the safety of every student and staff member that is what we we learn out time Valley the community or missed based on our person we were trying to
simply say let's wait to see what happens and and I do want to thank dr. infilled and president Schafer because when I brought forth the idea about lighting up the football fields on April 20th which I borrowed from another school district the two of you were very receptive of that and that is what as board members and leaders were supposed
to do bring ideas forward not create dissension or divisiveness in the community because that serves no purpose yes the students deserve a graduation apps solutely none of us were against that or opposed to that forming a committee of parents to do what there was nothing that we can do yes surrounding school districts and high schools we're having
you know we're making plans granted they were making plans that went away against the public health order and we weren't ready to do that just like there are individuals protesting you know the the stay at home orders did all of us jump in to that and say well if they're doing it we should do it too no that's not
what we did some of us are still abiding by the order in the best manner possible and so I just want to thank dr. infield for researching everything that I've sent you from the surrounding school districts and I'm sure you received such requests from other board members but that is what we're supposed to do handle it quietly respectfully professionally
and within the confines of a public health order so I just want to say to the parents out there that there was a lot of misinformation a lot of you know belief that some of us were not on board with graduations and that is not the truth every student deserves a graduation and yes it would have affected my child I know that I would
have advocated but I wouldn't have placed blame and I wouldn't have judged and I wouldn't have believed that any of us were opposed to graduations so with that I look forward to tomorrow's message from dr. infield and that's it thank you thank you mr. name is mrs. Gagne yes so I'm not gonna be Labor the graduation issue but I do want to say
that and I just feel need to just state this I think that when you're dealing with a situation like this and Kovan 19 has caused a seismic shift our teachers have set up to the challenge our school administrators our staff you know nobody had a roadmap for the no one still does things change day by day we're all glued to our you know
televisions and our laptops hearing various governor's and the president and others say different things conflicting things and so you have to imagine that when you are managing a School District which ours is like managing a small town with the size that it is we have a lot of things that were deliberating behind the scenes before we go public with them
and the conversation about having some form of in-person graduation has been happening it's been consistent it's been well researched it's been a veil to the Department of Public Health so we got to a position where we had something that we could announce and thank you dr. infield for chief for for bringing that to light and they'll be communication
tomorrow and this too shall pass but I just want to emphasize that you know we have a team of professionals at the school district that is trying to crisis manage every single day we have teachers that are doing the same thing we have school site administrators you know nobody knows how to do this right and I think everybody is afraid of making the
wrong choice and putting people at jeopardy so I just want to put that out there because you know I'll stay away from the social media morass of what has happened but sometimes we're making decisions about bringing kids together and families together and you know if something does go wrong if someone does get the disease transmitted you know
that weighs heavily on me and I want to make sure we're making decisions that are gonna keep everybody safe because I don't want to have us celebrate what is a remarkable achievement for all of our students and then 14 days later learn that we created an environment where we have families and children that are sick I just really want to make sure we're
being as conscientious as possible and you know if that conscientiousness comes off as coldness you know I don't think that's it I think that I care very deeply about the students I've talked to hundreds of students and parents you know I think that everyone is going to breathe a sigh of relief tomorrow but I just want to say that you know this is
one of those things where again I think anyone who serves in public office could not have predicted that they were going to be dealing with this and we're all trying our best on that note of having to shift from different things the Chino Valley Chamber was going to host its first pitch competition live in-person pitch competition for students this year we
rallied together as a chamber and decided to move the pitch competition online we had a variety of submissions from our students and I have to say I was shocked I don't know why I was we have so many talented students at the pitches that these students submitted and we have five finalists who are going to be competing in a live pitch over
zoom next Thursday May 14th at 6:00 p.m. I think if you tuned in you will be delighted at how innovative and talented our students are we have students that are representing Canyon those junior good Chino Hills High and I think it's gonna be a great event but I also want to just give kudos to all the business
community members here people are really rallying behind this raising money for more scholarships trying to make this an annual event our business community is definitely wanting to get more involved and support our students and I think that's just so positive given what's going on right now in our economy that our businesses are still even given their own challenges still wanting to
get behind our students and still want to dedicate resources and I also just want to point thank our teachers I know that this has been again an unforseen challenge and trying to wrangle and do education you know via the internet is difficult and all the different tools and things that are available but I appreciate you know all the time and
attention and being able to pivot and shift and make sure that all of our students are getting a high quality education and with that I hope everyone stays safe and has a great weekend thank you thank you mrs. GaN you dr. infield you have any additional comments this evening yeah really quickly.i Tuesday was a day of the teacher and Wednesday was the
National Nurses Day and words could not adequately express how appreciative I am of all the work that they do year in and year out and especially this year under these circumstances we have a phenomenal group of teachers and nurses in our district who do phenomenal work and again I'm extremely proud of the work that they do so thank
you very much thank you dr. infield I would just like to start by thanking with this being Teacher Appreciation Week all of our fantastic teachers and educators within this district that have continued to provide quality education under these very difficult circumstances it's not ideal but they are continuing to do the best they can to educate our children and I appreciate that all of
our nurses with national nurses Dave school nurses day yesterday thank you very much you two have gone above and beyond the call of duty so to speak with what is currently going on in our community across this country so thank you very much and our CSA members with your week of the school employees coming up thank you for everything that you
continue to do you continue to provide those essential services for our district and for our students from passing out meals to making sure that things are sanitized and clean and kept in good working order so thank you thank you to all of our employees I'd like this extended congratulations to all the students who received a CT scholarships
I'm sure they're all well deserved so congratulations to our educator of the year mrs. dimming and to our nurse of the year mrs. nurse at Merck congratulations well deserved I'd also like to take a minute to just touch on all the emails received from parents regarding some type of an alternative graduation other than the virtual graduation I think dr. Anfield explained it very
well of my colleagues on the board addressed it as well I would just like to touch on the fact that we received numerous and I do mean numerous emails and so if I have not responded to you I apologize it's not because I don't care it's just that there's not physically enough time in the day to respond to all
the emails that we've received it at this point I hope that some of your questions and in and apprehensions maybe or what might come graduation will be answered with dr. M Fields correspondence tomorrow if you do need any clarification or still have questions after seeing what dr. M field has to put out please by all means reach out to me or the other board
members to seek clarification this is not trying to take something away from our students this is doing trying to provide as much as we can in the safest manner possible and staying with them the health orders of the county and the state guidelines so again hopefully we will alleviate some of your concerns tomorrow and if you still have questions
please please please feel free to reach out to us with that I have no further comments so I will adjourn this meeting at 6:41 p.m.
