appointment director special education excuse me the board met in closed session from 4 30 pm to 505 pm regarding student discipline matters public employee appointment director special education director transportation elementary school principal and principals junior high school principal and high school assistant principal and public employee performance evaluation the board took action to make the following appointments by votes of 4-0 with bridge na schaefer

and gagne voting yes and cruz absent during the vote appointed julianne lopez as principal rolling ridge elementary school effective july 11 2022 monica highland as principal country springs elementary school effective july 11 2022 william carey as director transportation effective july 1 2022 willa mcreynolds as director of special education and jeanette quan as assistant principal butterfield ranch elementary school

have mrs hyland and mrs lopez joined the ayala feeder group today i would like to highlight two incredible cbusd leaders as they retire from spectacular careers in our district dr johnson the director of health services and paula thomas the principal of rolling ridge elementary they have both honor honorably served our schools and school districts we are excited for them to begin their

new adventure retirement dr johnson was instrumental in introducing schools to the mtss framework and having schools develop pbis practices for student success mrs thomas served the rolling ridge committee for eight wonderful years mrs thomas could always be counted on to lend helpful advice to new administrators in our district and especially in our feeder group dr johnson and mrs thomas we look

forward to hearing about your adventures and hope you will come back for a visit when you have the time i hear retirement gets pretty busy that's what i hear i hope everyone has a wonderful summer i don't know about you but i am already looking forward to 22 23. take care and i will see you next year thank you

the first speaker is jim gallagher followed by agnes mazur followed by misty good evening uh president garnier board members staff also fellow residents i come here tonight in the capacity of the china valley chamber of commerce board of directors of which christine is also chair and i just want to announce that next tuesday june 21st from 1 to 4 we're

having a job fair over at chaffey college college community center 5890 college park avenue we invite all board members to come we also invite the public and especially our students if they're interested in talking to representatives from companies like fedex hussman job source antithesis legal shield oakmont ups and so on we also are excited to announce that we've secured the u.s navy

recruiting center who's also going to set up a table that night so that's my announcement thank you thank you agnes mazur good evening president gagne board members dr enfield cabinet and community as a mother of a first grader in the district and as a university instructor i have seen the immense toll on emotional health that the last two and a

half years have taken on students of all ages i want to thank our district for taking a comprehensive approach in addressing these needs and ask that we keep up this focus and commitment i am heartened by the report on promoting student emotional health during the april seventh board meeting since then through my own observations and by talking to other parents teachers

and counselors i've gathered a few ideas that i would like to share when my daughter started first grade last august she was new to going to school and had not been in a classroom before she was quickly overwhelmed and showed a lot of anxiety it broke my heart when she would ask me if it was okay to cry on the drive to school and

would turn back and hug me over and over again as she went through the school gates i spoke with many other first grade parents who had similar tough moments with their own littles at first my daughter was very shy but after a few months i saw a huge shift in her behavior by the end of the year she had a group

of first grade buddies worked well with her classmates excelled academically and loved school when i spoke to her teacher about this transformation she said that she spent a lot of time in care on social emotional learning i believe it has worked wonders and that because of this attention to sel my daughter and many of her classmates thrived

in talking with other parents teachers and counselors in the district i heard many times how beneficial the pbis tiered support has been for students across the board everyone has said that having a full-time counselor at all the elementary schools has made a huge difference some teachers spoke about the benefits of counselors walking around campus checking with students and starting

well-loved lunchtime clubs at the middle school and high school levels counselors are accessible to all students and in all grades there is effective intervention for those who need a higher tier of support in classrooms parents teachers and counselors shared that they had seen positive effects from lessons on social emotional learning i believe that all of these are

important tools that the district can further build on and improve counselor shared with me that having more flexibility to see students without all the documentation would be helpful according to teachers the second step curriculum is a good starting place but isn't always very engaging and parents shared that will be helpful for the district to include professional development on trauma-informed teaching

and care i personally also think that how we as adults treat each other is important including at school board meetings our children are learning from our examples and when we act in uncivil ways or cannot manage our own emotions it is distressing and harmful to our children thank you thank you misty i have been thinking a lot about our

special needs kids recently and i know i spoke at the last meeting but there's more my daughter's been in the district for 18 years she started when she was three and she was shipped off to the ontario montclair district for 10 years because we did not have an appropriate place for her to attend school here so my daughter had to ride the bus clear

to the other district for years she'd have a seizure they'd call me i have to go get her it was just not convenient um she then finally we were super excited when she was able to attend chino hills high school i asked multiple times for the buddy program they would start it and then it would fail i don't know what it takes but it needs

to be implemented for both the special needs kids and the regular ed kids when i saw it work it was amazing um it gives people a sense just of appreciation for their life it gives them a sense of wanting to help others and become occupational therapists speech therapists doctors and so forth i asked numerous times for her to be

able to go into the pool when she was in the monte ontario montclair district she went in the pool almost every day for a good 20 30 minutes nothing they kept telling me well we don't have a curriculum six years i asked for it i bet you they still don't have a curriculum it's not acceptable every iep meeting i would just keep

putting being put off and it was really frustrating i feel like if if there was as much attention put on the special needs kids and their rights and their feelings and their whatever as there is with the lgbtq community this world would be very different place these kids need more attention and i just feel like this district has

failed for the last 18 years and i might be too late but i'm hoping that i'm going to help somebody else because it needs to be better the district needs to be better thank you thank you we're now at item two action items the first item is item two a1 oh sorry one e changes and deletions pat are

just uh very very briefly uh i know we're in the summer break with uh calero coming up again very soon but i just wanted to wish everyone a very happy fourth of july holiday as we come up on that weekend and that concludes my comments for tonight uh mr knuff okay uh dr enfield i know we have

lots of shifts in our special department and it's coming uh i would like to have our district whether coordinator or supervisor someone to meet up with our special ed parent that she has attended this evening's meeting and to listen to her i think she makes perfect sense i have attended the program at chino hills high school body program

it was an awesome program that helps all the students on campus and especially for special needs students it was a very exciting moment to watch and their face i had lunch with them in the afternoon and and i know that people that were in charge had to move out of states but i think the program should continue

it's about the kids if we need some type of funding or support i think we need to seek to support that program to continue and also listen to her about the program being swimming pool that it's going to take demand power but a curriculum that needs to be written and being part of our policy i think we

need to seek and assist our special ed students as a whole so i'd like to have our suspicious department uh reach out to our parent here dr enfield yeah good time okay good and also we had uh speaker uh we'll talk about our counselors meeting the needs of our students social emotional needs i agree with 100 with her as she's

telling the truth the kids come with the smile and sometimes they come with tears but we need that support and yes the teachers go through lots of work and all our staffs during these pandemics but even our children they go through even i think sometimes worse situations so i'd like to see our counselors would have flexibility and and assisting them meeting the needs

of our kids and their emotional needs so i'd like to um probably have dr grace mark talk to our teacher and also our parent and and come up with something that we could assist them now in three district transfers i've been getting calls yeah so we finally things are looking great for our district uh we need to add more students

in our roster for all different reasons i don't think we need to work extra hard from a district standpoint to attract and invite all these interior district transfer students as possible i like to ask everyone to support our site principals and admin teams and teachers and csa staffs especially with new students coming we need to build a

good culture it's about time building a respectful culture so that as our teacher said in the back that we need to be a example for our children so i think that's very important i would continue to say though i would say no to low quality politicians from sacramento we need to continue on that movement that who has right side

for right reasons especially for education and our parents say they have been really hurting our education for past decades and it's got to be stopped so i'd like to thank all the parents especially attending our meeting to show your interest in our students from by my heart and also i'd like to uh have sonia to stand up

you just turned 40 years old there was a surprise birthday party so let's give her a big hand four years old you have raised your children well and it's so good to see your best friends this is what shows our body program this is what means there's no one that's who's perfect on this earth we're sure of something

but when we come together as friends to friends then we can build up each other and again she's not a parent from special needs students all these years of service as a school board member the most delightful moment i had was attending special needs students dance parties i enjoy them so much because you can see properly practically angels dancing

so pure we don't need to watch what they're gonna dance i mean they're so pure and and i had told the parents that they're truly blessed because they have such an innocent children and if we could step up and and and have them be part of our lives i think that's the right thing to do as an adult

so thank you again for parents and coming to share your thoughts and frustrations but i think uh our staffs have heard that clearly the needs of our services and you just go ahead and let me know if you need more services that you can think of from the districts that we could uh make it even better here thank you

thank you mr cruz you know thank you for um bringing up the social emotional learning you know having counselors to be more flexible and have less documentation you know i'm happy that we we did hire 20 but i wish there was more but you know you know dr grace i i think what the lady stated is going to be so

paramount in the coming year and the coming years that we have to have a part paradigm shift that you could see the writing on the wall that things are going to get rough and our kids are going to get emotionally um you know there's going to be issues arising so i just hope that we're proactive and we see what's coming so we can

lessen the emotional strain that all children are going to experience you can just see what's going to happen and and the program that um she stated you know the word she used amazing we know it helped and we should utilize a program very similar to this and start implementing something like this i mean it's good and it's healthy

especially now it's good and we should be very creative in finding ways to do this and then sandra chen you know you're doing a fantastic job in the financing so good job good job you know i know she brought up what the lady brought up about the divisiveness of the board it's really about what we believe in

and what we're passionate sometimes we have no choice but to behave the way we behave for the sake of our children so public safety sb1273 i had i had to look at this carefully i asked some people if this is wrong next board meeting correct me so let me read this a part of it mandatory notification the bill removes mandatory reporting of

school threats to law enforcement including those that involve certain instruments that expel metal projector i mean a bill from sacramento have something like that in here it just doesn't make sense to me you know there's one thing that's so important that is safety and i'm still a little bit you know i had to question this so if this is wrong please come back

next board meeting and just say no this is what it exactly says it states you know something like this is almost like an infestation of something something that it's almost like you just can't understand what's actually happening at the same time we know we got crime occurring and then having something like that just doesn't make sense to me it actually

angers me and then i just want to tell you about the most top 10 deadliest u.s cities cleveland memphis kansas new orleans baton rouge dayton detroit birmingham baltimore saint louis all those cities have something in common their mayors are democrats hey listen i gotta listen this is like i'm thinking about the safety of our children okay so i'm gonna be as one as

possible that i i can't get it i just can't get these things okay top ten the most deadliest u.s cities and then there's a new term doctors are really baffled it's called sads sudden adult death syndrome in healthy young people what why me my personal opinion whether we like it or not i think it's probably connected to this gene thing

that people are taking it and doctors are baffled with sads and then you got a bill you know being introduced they want to publicly you know mandatory our kids to be vaccinated in the coming of january 2023 or july 2023 and i asked myself you know by now you've got about 75 20 of the people that our children are vaccinated

so why push us so hard and this is the thing that really bothers me so much it just irritates me and so the only way that we can change these things the only way that we can we can push like the emotional issue that um the lady mentioned and the program and then not allowing this to occur to

force our children to be vaccinated nor employees is to have good people doing what's best for our kids you have to you just have to do it because this cannot keep on going on because like i said 75 of our kids are have already been they already got it they're immune and to give them something like this

and then you note something called sads that doctors are so baffled by this new syndrome i mean come on people i'm harping on this i've been harping on this since since this thing has started like two years ago i just i i knew something was just not right at first i understood that this may have been something serious but no no this is

diabolical this is really is diabolical stuff that's occurring so let's let's do all this because with the right people we can make all this happen we could keep our kids safe we could and mentally we could really help them to weather this out of what america's gonna go through in the next coming months and the next couple of years

especially in this community chino china hills we could be real strong and you know what i dream of i dream that the mayor of chino and china hills when that day comes when people cannot afford their homes anymore that they do not event people out of their houses for the sake of their children because honestly it's not their fault

the system is is so corrupt you cannot trust the system anymore i i hope they do the right thing and keep children in a safe place at home rather than not what happened in 2008 where a lot of people lost their homes so thank you thank you mr cruz this is dr enfeld i just have a couple comments um first

i'd like to ask dr enfield i would like a recommendation from you and cabinet in regards to adding further supports on our junior high and high school campuses in regards to school safety i think that you're in the best position to assess what we support we currently have on campus and what we can do to enhance those supports

thank you the chamber has a grand reopening on june 30th from 5 30 to 7 30. our chamber offices are right here off 7th street the city of chino graciously came in and redid our offices and we're open to all members of the public so this is an invitation extended to everyone in the community to come by and

check out the chamber and the programs that we have to offer we've developed a whole host of programs for our high school and junior high students and so this is something that if you do have a student interested in the business community or any type of career we have a ton of mentors and programs that are ready and willing to

assist your students and bring them into the chamber we also have student memberships and so i think this is a great opportunity for our students who are trying to learn about the business world and finally um our one-stop shop online for mental health will be launching i'm very excited about this i see the district did a social media post a couple of days

ago but it's a wonderful resource it's a one-stop for all of our mental health resources in one place so hopefully it is easier for all of our parents students families and staff to navigate the mental health services that we offer and with that i will adjourn the meeting at 6 33 pm have a good evening
