before I now reconvene the regular meeting of the board of education at 6 PM with Bridge crop Cruz Monroe Na and myself present before we begin please silence all electronics and note that these proceedings are being recorded Pat the board meant in closed session from 4 25 pm to 5 49 PM regarding conference with legal counsel litigation one matter

conference with legal counsel anticipated litigation one possible case student Discipline matters conference with Labor negotiators Act and csca Public Employee appointment director of purchasing and Elementary School assistant principal um and Public Employee discipline dismissal release the board appointed Kathy Casino as director purchasing effective January 20th 2023 by unanimous vote of 5-0 with Bridge Cruise Monroe non-shaw voting yes

and the board voted 5-0 to ratify initiation of litigation on the matter Chino Valley Unified School District against Chino Development Corporation Chino preserve Development Corporation and Chino holding company LLC by a vote of a unanimous vote of 5-0 no further action was taken which requires public disclosure thank you Pat leading the pledge allegiance tonight is Jonathan gabrielson

please stand the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all we're now on to item 1C comments from student representative next we are on comments from Mrs King Miss King many seniors and sports rallies to recognize okay can I not be heard am I here okay

good evening what president Shaw members of the board and distinguished guests I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays in Frank coming back from break we have high school winter sports season starting such as girls water polo girls and boys basketball girls and boys soccer and wrestling many senior nights in sports rallies to recognize athletes will be coming up within the next few

weeks high school is like China High Chino Hills High and down legal high are bringing back the Sadie Hawkins dance after not having it for many years check all schools social media sites and school websites for more information to come all schools attending student advisory Council or stack meetings have been working on different ways to promote mental health throughout their schools

I'll be writing updates on those in the next few months as they finish up for y'all High School's event they hosted a connection week in December with various activities promoting Mental Health this past week down Lego High held a ceremony for the community on students in honor of their coach again who recently passed may he rest in peace thank you and I

hope you all have a great night thank you Miss King we're now on to item 1D next up are comments from employee Representatives we have Brenda Walker from Act Danny Hernandez from csca hello board hello cabinet Community how you guys doing I'm Jonathan gabrielson on behalf of CSEA we just wanted to say thank you to some of the retirees that

we have and their years of service thank you to the health technician from Country Springs Melinda for 11 years of service we really appreciate her the custodian one at Rolling Ridge Randy for 33 years of service we appreciate all the work Nancy nutrition service 2 Don Lugo High School we'd like to tell her thank you for serving all of our

children maintenance 3 craft specialist and maintenance Raul Salazar he had 18 years of service and bus driver and transportation Cosby five years of service we want to thank all of them for everything they've done for our community and all the children I'd like to go a little further and say something about Raul Salazar I worked hand in hand

with him he was a mentor to me as a young man when I came here he spoke to me all the time about my kids and what I should do and how I should handle them in things like that and it was just an honor to work with Raul and the service that I had of seven years with him so

thank you to all the retirees so thank you thank you very much [Applause] and now we have Barbara Bearden from champ good evening president Shaw school board members Dr Enfield cabinet and Chino Valley Community congratulations Kathy casino and your promotion to director purchasing what a well-deserved honor during November oh you know what sorry this is not it's downloading my recent changes

I love technology so what I was going to say I did type it out um I I first want to thank um our Martin Silvera and his team because over the months of December and January our Valley our Chino Valley was hit hard by storms and I will tell you that the maintenance department worked so hard to ensure that our classrooms

were ready for our teachers and students so I wanted to thank his team and the whole maintenance department they they got a lot of phone calls from schools and they worked really well with us to ensure that our kids could be in school secondly I'd like to thank Dr Stacy Ayers and Dr Park they worked with us at

our last principal's meeting to help principals uh first of all give us the time to collaborate and work on our school's School plan for student achievement monitoring that and going through the process throughout the year is is time consuming but being able to collaborate together with our peers was very valuable and we appreciated that time finally parents it is that time of the

year where we are asking you to complete the K-12 Insight surveys this information is so valuable for site administrators not only do we use that information but we meet with our School site councils our English language advisory councils and our staff members to look at what our parents are rating our schools what our staff is writing our schools what our students we take

that information to create plans for our campuses so please remember it takes everyone working together to ensure that our schools are moving forward and we appreciate your your time putting it putting time into giving us that feedback finally parents if you are available Tuesday night Ayala is hosting the next parent information Forum they are going to be

providing a free light meal child care and topics that are especially crucial at this time time for parents social media mental health these are all things that we need to be aware of as parents especially when we are trying to prepare our kids to be citizens in our societies so please take the time thank you and I

hope our families had a wonderful New Year and that our families who are celebrating the lunar Lunar New Year this weekend have a great time thank you awesome thank you very much [Applause] we're now on to item 1e comments from the audience um not on the agenda Pat are there any requests to speak on non-agenda items we

have seven requests to speak on non-agenda items speakers will be called in the order uh the request was received please listen for your name and be prepared to approach the podium any comments on agenda items will be accepted during consideration of that item once the board has comment commenced deliberations on an issue speaker cards will not be accepted the board is very

interested in your comments but please bear in mind that the board typically does not respond to comments during this time on the agenda as it's reserved specifically for public comments individual members May respond during board comment at the end Mr na will you please explain the light system speakers you have three minutes to address the board limit remarks to new points begin

comments at the green light the yellow light means you have three thirty seconds left the red light means your time is over please adjust the microphone as necessary please refrain from making comments while speakers are at the podium and please note policy 1312.1 outlines procedures for anyone who wishes to file a complaint against a district employee the first speaker is

Jim Gallagher followed by Lisa greathouse followed by Virginia panteria good evening board Dr Enfield and staff fellow residents I'm here tonight to reiterate a concern that I expressed several months ago to this body and my city council of Chino Hills by the way and and councilman Bennett will attest to this as well regarding Public Safety from an actor

active shooter scenario uh the recent shooting of a teacher by a six-year-old student in Newport News Virginia prompts me to bring up this topic again at both the board and Council meetings I suggested a top-down bottom-up thorough review of all facilities practices and policies that come under the purview of the respective bodies be undertaken right away in order to avoid another

shocking incident in our community like Parkland Uvalde or Newport News board member Monroe in particular I'd like to address you I'd like to suggest with your law enforcement background you encourage a proactive deeper dive into the potential blind spots that may exist in the school district policies procedures and practices regarding school safety I humbly encourage you and

the other board members to work closely with Dr Enfield and the staff to assure we never have an active shooter incident Dr Enfield offered at the last month's meeting I noted all available assistance from him and his excellent staff to your body so you can adequately carry out your duties as board members take advantage of his offer and work with

them I would also like to recommend to the newly elected board members to exercise Independence in thought and deliberation not just from playbooks and scripts I recommend you seek advice from those you have Rich very knowledge like board member John bridge for example who possesses Decades of experience in the classroom Administration and collective bargaining arenas thank you for your time and attention to

this matter thank you very much Lisa greathouse followed by Virginia Renteria followed by Katie Martinez well all I can say it's a great new year for our school board I just wanted to speak tonight I really like what Mr na had suggested on having Kirk Cameron's book into our schools I think it's about time that we get some good wholesome

books for our kids that was about it because I'm just so happy with our new board but um since uh I thought of this I thought well okay Mr Monroe he can do quite a bit with his police background unlike who we had on the board before with the police background that did nothing so I'm just happy about all of this I'm

very happy from the last meeting that most all of you not all but most volunteered to step out of the box and do additional extra curricular activities and that is really appreciated so that's it for me today and I thank you and like I said my heart just jumps for joy that I believe that our school board is going to be one heck

of a school board and the coming two to four years thank you thank you Katie Martinez followed by Tony Flores followed by Aiden Flores good evening um I am coming kind of off topic with what's going on right now I'm wanting to come to you guys in regards to sped or special needs for those aren't aware um our school district is probably one

of the worst in the state I mean you guys already know how many lawsuits we have and how much the passport has been negligent with that and with my son who has Down syndrome I'm at an advantage from birth to learn the ropes to learn sped law to learn our rights for a lot of these families coming in that has an

Autism diagnosis that overnight their world changes they're trusting you guys to be their voices they're trusting you guys as a professional and you guys have time and time again take advantage and do not do the right thing there's a reason why we continue to get sued my son's IEP has been violated so many times we have so many

times we demand basic rights to have our kid just included with the general population as Black America did in the 70s that's our reality now we have to get attorneys and most attorneys will just tell us to transfer out that's how bad our district is now with you guys on the board and the Dynamics changing I'm really hopeful

that that you guys can come together and have dialogue with us parents with special needs um special need kids in the district to come up with some solutions to work with ourself and getting out of ourself but whatever we can do to do better because we are not doing the right thing and infield you've been in that seat for

so long a lot of it can fall on you currently and there's time and time again that you haven't acknowledged things there's been kids with specials beat up and you don't even acknowledge it and it's unacceptable it's unacceptable there's I can go on so many things but the fact is we have a model system for kids that are mod

severe settings that we had in the 80s when my son would be referred to as a that's how outdated we are we can do better when we're wanting to talk about inclusion and acceptance for all let's start with the most vulnerable they make up what 20 of our student population and we're doing the bare minimum not even that we're not even

doing what's legal you guys are just banking that parents don't know their rights and it's not okay so I'm praying Shaw Monroe infilled all of you guys as a team can work and for parents that are listening that have been beat down to a pulp that they come forth that they speak up to you guys that we

can build some sort of a team where we can build a dialogue so you guys can know what our reality is every day and I'm hopeful going forward that we can do better for our kids for my son to have a future and I can trust him in your care and he will be safe thank you have a

good night thank you Tony Flores followed by Aiden Flores followed by the final speaker Michael apolinar good evening board members Dr Enfield cabinet parents and students my name is Tony Flores and I'm happy to speak to you this evening my family and I live in trusty area too and which covers the Chino High School Magnolia Woodcrest feeder schools happy and healthy New

Year to all I would like to take a few minutes to say some encouraging words about what I am experiencing with our Chino Valley schools and staff Dr Enfield I want to thank you for letting our access and Equity director Dr Ayers and our family engagement coordinator E.B Cordero invite me to be a parent advocate on our Chino Valley

School District CEI Community engagement incentive team I have served on the team for the last three years we just completed our first in-person conference last week with over 400 Plus student leaders and school leaders from across the state it was so exciting to be a part of a larger group of community and school leaders also Dr Enfield we parents would

like to thank you for the school Community Liaisons throughout our school campuses who are interacting with our specific needs and working with our Community Partners schools like Don Lugo and Chino High have a full-time liaison paid for through their Title One funds while other schools support their bilingual clerk by having them in the training program at the family

engagement Center excuse me I believe this network of school Community Liaisons is a very important Link in connecting families to the schools I have witnessed this work myself wouldn't it be wonderful to have a school Community liaison at every school in the district lastly Dr Enfield I want to thank you for letting me give an All-Pro dad

presentation at our pfln partnership for Learning Network this first trimester we have received a positive response from other dads wanting to step up on campus to enjoy breakfast in a meaningful relationship and activity with their children before school each month I also want to thank you for appointing Joseph Durant as the new principal at Magnolia Junior High I met Mr Durant at our pfln

meeting last week I also want to give a shout out to Howard cattle principal bus for supporting our All-Pro dads program we are going on our first year fifth year as dads and kids before school breakfast meetings now to not leave anyone out I also want to give a shout out to Chino High School principal John Miller

and his staff my daughter bridged over to ninth grade and she is happy to be a part of the Chino High color guard my daughter loves the teamwork Mr Bowden and his staff work hard to accomplish my wife and I love being a part of the band boosters it's a lot of work and we like other band and color guard parents have

fun with it thank you for your time and support I hope my words have been encouraging to you Tony Flores trustee area too thank you Mr Flores thank you Max Ibarra followed by Aiden Flores followed by Michael apolinar good evening board I'm speaking on student safety and an incident that in this boardroom under normal circumstances I wouldn't need to address

this but with our new board a refresher is necessary at a recent meeting an unnecessary and divisive agenda item was being addressed fellow students and I sat for the Pledge of Allegiance as an active protest to that item The Pledge promises liberty and justice for all the agenda item and our overall treatment in this room and from board members were

not including us in all hence our protests during public comments a speaker turned to face and pointed us because of our protest she said that we clearly weren't being taught history and that men have died for that flag as if we were unaware of this fact a matter of grave importance one that cannot be taken lightly is understanding

history lest we be doomed to suffer the dire consequences of repeating its mistakes I'm well aware of the sacrifices made for this flag important examples come from World War II the minority military units which we ST which were still segregated by race the Japanese American citizens of the nice saved 442nd regimental combat team who fought to prove loyalty to their country

the USA for fear of being seen as enemies and placed in internment camps who became one of the most decorated units in U.S military history including 21 Medals of Honor and the black aviators of the Tuskegee Airmen who fought for this country despite the racism and discrimination they suffered in return who received hundreds of air medals and flying crosses for their

heroism who were awarded Congressional Medals of Honor by the president who said even the Nazis asked why African-American men would fight for a country that treated them so unfairly these men in our felt a special sense of urgency they were fighting two Wars one was in Europe and the other took place in the hearts and minds of our citizens

who the president saluted in an attempt to help atone for the UN returned salutes and unforgivable indignities they endured or Daniel inoue who fought and was severely wounded while protecting the lives of his entire platoon and later became our first Japanese American Congressman I refuse to have my education of this country's history publicly attacked like that it's

been made Crystal Clear several times that speakers cannot address anyone except the board this Board needs to do a better job of protecting students Monroe and Shaw ran to protect students and now it's time to fulfill that promise especially president Shaw if you see students being targeted by speakers or being interrupted while speaking you need to shut that down immediately

attempts to silence us intimidate students into not speaking no person who wants to protect students will let that go unchecked you need to protect all students not just the ones you agree with and certainly not just the quote unquote normal kids as Miss Renteria so kindly put it if you ran for this position you make sure you fulfill all

requirements of that job thank you thank you for your comments Aiden Flores Aiden Flores followed by Michael apollinar followed by Lisa greathouse good morning board members Dr anfield cabinet parents and students my name is Aidan Flores a Boy Scout from Chino troop 202 we meet at Chino United Methodist Church across the street from this board meeting I'm happy to be

speaking with you this evening my family and I in trustee area 2 which covers Chino High School Magnolia and Woodcrest feeder schools I would like to take a few minutes to say some encouraging words about what my dad and I are experiencing experiencing with Boy Scouts in our Chino Valley Community I am a Boy Scout Tenderfoot and my dad 24 says a Boy Scout leader

our Chino Valley Boy Scouts units build character skills self-awareness self-respect and life skills within our students our students need this more than ever I believe it would benefit every Chino Valley Elementary School to have a Cub Scout Pack also every junior high school and high school should have boys and girls plugged into a scouting trip for the reasons I mentioned my dad

Tony Flores as our Boy Scouts of America Temescal District activities and Civic service chairman can help you engage more parents and more students to esteem activities to benefit the entire Chino Valley Community at no cost to our school district so I propose that either board members or staff and my dad get together and talk more about this topic and how we

can support students in this way my dad looks forward to contacting each and each of you to discuss thank you for your time and support I hope my words have been encouraging to you thank you so much Michael apolinar followed by Lisa greathouse good evening as I'm sure you know there was controversy over campaign funding during the most recent election and I'm

here tonight to ask the board to take the necessary action to close a serious loophole and prevent allowing a single donor to play such an outsized role in funding future School Board candidates it came as a surprise to many of us that due to this loophole in state law there are currently no caps on how much a

single donor can contribute to school board races that allowed an out of town contractor who has millions of dollars of contracts with this District to donate a previously unheard of one hundred thousand dollars to Ms Shaw and Mr Monroe in this last campaign cycle while we can't be sure of what motivates someone who lives outside this District

to donate that kind of money what we do know is that it gives the appearance of questionable ethics and potential impropriety in fact that same individual was also the sole donor to political action committee established by Ms Shaw's Mr Monroe's and Mr Nas campaign Treasurer solely to spread information about your opponents the donations you accepted were more

than 10 times the maximum allowable to candidates for state and county office currently set at 4 900 per candidate what I'm asking the sport to do is what many other localities have done and that's to impose a cap for future races of no greater than forty nine hundred dollars per donor and I'd suggest less than that I'm sure the vast majority of

residents of this District want to keep big money and special interests out of school board races as well as the potentially result in corruption something that we have regrettably seen in the past fortunately a new state law went into effect January 1st that would bar local elected officials from accepting or soliciting contributions over of over 250 dollars from pending contractors

that's a step in the right direction but it would be more effective for this board to impose a cap on all donations regardless of whether the donor does business with the district that said because the new law is not retroactive I'm wondering if Ms Shaw and Mr Monroe would pledge tonight to recuse themselves from any votes that involved

the contractor star hardware and its owner Carlos Reynoso who single-handedly paid for your campaigns that would be a first step in the right direction of showing the residents of this District that big money and special interests are not influencing your votes thank you thank you [Applause] we're now on to item 1f changes and deletions Pat are there any changes or deletions

the following changes on the agenda item 4a3 revision of bylaws of the board 9323 meeting conduct is pulled from the agenda we are now on to action items the first action item is two a one character education and development board member James Nall recommends that the Board of Education approve providing copies of Kirk Cameron's as you grow in John wooden's

Pyramid of Success to school libraries are there any speakers we have two requests to speak the first speaker is Juan vialba followed by Naomi Minogue good evening board good evening members in the community and I'm here to talk about in regard the book suggestion that you have on the agenda I don't know how you miss this opportunity like this and

go for something different I think it would have been a great opportunity to encourage local writers maybe student writers student authors or local authors to get their books on the schools here right it would have been a great opportunity but no instead if you've gone with a book that has been rejected 57 times and different public libraries

it speaks of a really miss opportunity they're going to be something good there are more important items at the school district that that need to be taken care of one of our previous speakers was talking about the special education children that's some more important item that one or two books um the other thing that also that distracts me out is uh the way to go

about it I can I cannot guess what is what is the motivation of it I don't want to make any comments as to what the reason why but I do find it Thoughtless and shallow uh to do something like that there is so currently currently a procedure if you really Mr Knight if you really have a suggestion for a book that there is a

procedure to go for it there's no reason to make a spectacle out of it to bring a book again I find it as a Miss opportunity in a really a Thoughtless and shallow attend that whatever it is that you're looking for and the other reason too is since you're bringing that up it's like you're opening the door to anybody else

to bring suggestions to the board to being bring books up to a boat during the previous board you allowed a non-board member to to bring comments and to add items to the agenda does that mean that I'm capable as well to add items or book suggestions to the agenda since you already allowed it before so does that

mean any member of the community can come in and say hey I have a book recommended I want to vote it on the board I don't know what is the thought process there but it's certainly I find it Thoughtless and shallow thank you thank you [Applause] Naomi Minogue good evening tonight I would like to address the recommendation made by James

Knott to approve providing copies of two books to our school libraries before I address my concerns I would like to read from board policy 61631 which states in part Library materials shall be evaluated and selected in accordance with law board policy and administrative regulation through a selection process that invites recommendations from administrators teachers other staff parents Guardians

library media center assistants and students as appropriate it is my hope that Mr Na and the rest of the board members adhere to board policy and California Department of Education codes and follow the protocol and selection process prior to recommending any books be approved for our school libraries so what specifically are our board policies and what is the selection

process the board implements prior to approving books for our school libraries or our board policies and guidelines from the California Department of Education followed prior to the recommendation from Mr naw it appears according to board and Department of California education policy board members are not solely responsible for the decision to add books to our school libraries I am

concerned about the president this recommendation by Mr Nas sets for a future acts by our board members members should not make recommendations without following both board policy and coach from the California Department of Education if these recommendations are allowed without following the selection process we Face the possibility of board members selecting approving and removing books based on their own standards and beliefs

for example while I have no doubt that Mr na has the best interest of our students in mind the background of his of his recommendation reads in part he recommends our school libraries make available the two books with an emphasis on youth character development and teaching important life skills that focus on what is needed to Achieve Personal best in life this is one of the

reasons why we have a selection process in the future they may be May there may be recommendations made by an individual whose choices are completely different from others why should Mr na or any other single board member be the sole voice of which books constitute materials which will provide youth character development and teach important life skills shouldn't this

selection process for these books which promote these characteristics and traits include parents teachers and staff Etc in the spirit of transparency which I'm sure is very important to our board I would recommend the board follow the selection process and postpone further action until the proper policy and rules can be enacted the board should and allow for the proper evaluation and

selection process and invite recommendations from others outside of this board thank you thank you Katie Martinez [Applause] foreign supported you for many years so you came up to bat for our families with oppa years ago so did you Cruise um so I appreciate you in so many ways I know if there's an issue I can call you

and you will take care of it um your heart is there for the kids um Charlie Kirk I love his stuff he does really cool books he's done great movies but what the heck like I can go buy 50 of these books and go to each school and donate them why do we have to have this on the agenda tonight I don't get it

like there's I if there if there's so many other things to address you just now open the door for people to come bring whatever books they want now we're going to have an issue that needs to be revised now we need to revise this because I could literally go by 50 mine comps and go donate them to the schools and they

will accept them because they don't vet those a friend just donated books and asked the principal and she's like yeah just bring him to the library they just put him on the shelves there's no vetting process so why are we having this on the agenda tonight I I love the book but of all the things to address tonight this is not it

this is not it so I just I'm hoping that we can move forward find a resolution for this problem though because there needs to be a vetting process it's kind of scary that there isn't and that parents or whoever in the public can just go donate books especially with you know the crowds that come in here we've

got some crazies so we really need to have vetting process in place one way or the other we need to and I want to protect our kids and I want to support all beliefs and all of that and I think we can find a balance there but this isn't it we have so many other larger fish to fry

that are huge issues nah you're a great person love you you're I can count on you for anything I know that but this just this is nonsense we're wasting time up here on an issue that's a non-issue matter I mean go donate the books go buy 50 of them we can go put them in the libraries tomorrow that's fine

there's no vetting process so why are we here for this oh that's all thank you thank you it was on there you go I tend to agree with the speakers with because my thoughts were the same today as I was looking over this and and writing writing out some comments we're going down a path I don't think we

want to go down we have a process in this district for textbook selections and committee I think that this needs to go through that type of process no matter what book it is whether it's the two books recommended tonight or whether I was to bring in books from my church's publishing house which is National out in St Louis Concordia Publishing House I

wouldn't do if I did that the same same thing would apply so I just think that this needs to be addressed in a different manner and therefore I'm I'm making a substitute motion if I can get a second to send this to a selection Committee in the district however the district can can set it up we have a textbook process

with with teachers with site staff with administrators and with parents and I think that that's where this needs to go I would second that motion we'll put that motion on the floor right now or means on the floor the first one's on the floor so we'll hold that one Mr Cruz yeah what is the protocol s without a recommendation

um based on that recommendation either to the librarian at the secondary or to the library of media Assistance or students typically will make some recommendations and then based on that based on the funds that they have because we don't receive funds for library books so most of the school sites are doing this through fundraisers are very limited

funds then they submit that a list to the principal and then the principal will bet that to make sure that they're appropriate and then based on that they order the books that's typically basically how it how it happens I know we do have board policy that board policy was was created when we used to receive funds from the state we haven't

received fund from the state for library books I think it's uh what was about two or 2014 I think was the last time so we don't typically receive those funds so um and as you know I think it's uh he said that Destiny I'm thinking the uh the program where the kids get it online oh wow oh Quest

a program online yeah take a look at the textbooks um there's a lot of books I know it's a second year I know what you're doing that service that they can pull up online so they that's why there's not a lot of need need at the secondary and what about um board members what's what's the policy for board memories

to adopt library books there isn't a policy for the the board to adopt the books but um what Mr naw did was that acceptable um it was there was nothing wrong with what mrnado right it's under the purview of the board to bring items forward so as a board member you have that right to do that it's always been like that a few

years decades I can hear you at all underneath um do we have any more comments because I have a comment but I would like everybody else I have a comments yeah go ahead go ahead Mr Monroe so I think if we're trying to look at do we need a set of precedents on how books get into our

schools that's one thing I think no matter what you feel about these books we're in danger of setting a precedent that shouldn't be a matter of the board so to speak um I don't know how many library books do we have in our district can you imagine if every time we come to meet with a board there was a new book

presented and are you going to read those books cover to cover to make sure that every page in there is appropriate age appropriate and be responsible for those books I think there's a lot more valuable things that we can do with our time and that's why I I am aligned with Mr bridge and and sending this to another vetting process to look

at what we're doing if it's appropriate and where we need to go from here thank you um I do have something to say because when I did see this I wanted to make sure first of all before we allowed it to go forward that we weren't breaking any policies because in my position I don't want to break any policies and I

want to do Best by our community so I did check with Dr anfield and as you heard he told me the same thing now I will say that looking at the board policy that he had given me it is definitely outdated and it's probably something that we need to put attention to and make some changes to and that is

something that I do have my on my list because you know when we find something that's broken we I plan on moving forward and fixing it now I will say this um although I would have I'm not in favor of bringing this to a board especially with the temperature that it's been at because I'm trying to make

sure that everybody's heard we're not causing any more emotional pain or stress for any of us and any of our children or anybody in the community I did personally look up at these books and I think we're judging books by its cover but I get why the concerns that were were given at least to me why people are

upset I totally understand it I can fill your guys's pain on it and if it was vice versa I would feel the same way if it was something that I did not agree with so with that said um the policy wasn't broken if you do look at the book and and I did ask for some other titles in our libraries

currently and there's a bunch of religious books of all religions in there right now if you go check your libraries which I encourage you to go check the libraries if you're allowed to to make an are they allowed to doctor and film contact the school I mean if you're concerned about what your child's being checked out but I could tell you this as

a parent if my kid came home with a book that I didn't like it would go straight back and I would say no we're not reading this I mean you do have the option to check it out um I did open the book and read it and it didn't refer to Jesus or God which I know that this this particular writer is

very controversial because he's a Christian writer it's a it's about character I will say that and I encourage you guys if you do want to see it because I mean me as a community member I would want to see what somebody's trying to bring into the school regardless of who's bringing it in and the other book that was in

question I think is a great book and I got a lot of great feedback on that book as well so I I mean I personally do think that we need to look at our policy and I plan on bringing that up with Dr Enfield and his staff and the and our board members on going forward because it is outdated and

it does need some updating but I also do encourage I'm I if I were to vote for this book it's not because of a political stand or a religious stand I personally looked up the book and I looked at what it was saying and it was a lot of character building and it was just encouraging kids to do great and it

did not mention Jesus or God or Buddha or anybody else in that book um so I will say that but yes that's that's just my comments on that book oh did you read the book did you did you glance at those books and yes and what did you think of them me too it's not really about the book it's

about something else that's what it is we are adults here and what we're what what this States is developing character and you know in in students lives that's what these books are referring to it's not referring to anything else but that but uh it's unfortunate okay but something's going on oh yeah let's go for it any more questions or discussion

so we'll go to a vote what is it yeah oh are we going back it has to be in the order of it with us the last one but that's a complete it's a whole new motion it's not like an amendment complete yeah so we have to do the first time we have to do the first exercise

to refer to committee essentially is killing yeah yeah it's like a separate yeah I believe it shouldn't because it needs to be like an amendment to that that said if you the board doesn't want to take action on it it could be pulled and then another board member at a later time can bring It Forward if you want to

take it to committee but right now they're two sep it's too far removed from his main motion another option if they wanted to would be to hold the item if they didn't want to take action on it right now and maybe reconsider it in the future would be to pull it yeah I'd like to go ahead vote

on it so so the motion is on the second yeah make a substitute motion to pull pull the agenda item and refer back to this board for how we're going to dispense with it and I'll second that I think more needs to go into this so all in favor for this for this to pull the item and

speakers first okay Phil Dubois followed by Mike Garcia followed by Yolanda Holguin good evening board members my name is Phil Dubois I'm a 70 plus year citizen of this community I'm a product of Chino schools and I'm retired from the Chino Police Department after 28 years I stand to submit you a name for the preserved School now I'm going to cite the obvious here

that as parents and citizens our schools and and we you and I we partner to develop and educate our children to become active and and productive members of our society more simply put parents in schools grow our young people to become responsible adults our schools also are representative of those individuals who dedicated himself to that furtherance developing character in our young people

and I I cite some names Briggs fundamental Newman Elementary Marshall Elementary Dixon Elementary more about fundamental Dickey Elementary Cortez Elementary like Lytle Elementary these are individual people it's only some of them by the way there's a bunch I didn't we have 21 schools in this District I didn't name all of the people that all the schools that were named after people

but they were named after people for a reason most people stood out and this evening I want to offer you an additional name or someone who stands out and that would be Louis W Moreno board members Lou Moreno's a lifelong Channel resident born and raised not very far from the actual site of the of the uh school do we speak about tonight

Lou was raised in Chino and schools in a segregated school system he rose to be a dedicated civil servant serving on the Chino Police Department for 25 years I was privileged to work with Lou for 20 of those years he was a 10-year member of this very school board that you sit on tonight and he was the president a couple of

times Lou was all about creating a place where kids could grow and learn from someone who Lou valued our young people he found that the Chino Boxing Club a place where young boys and girls could get away from the streets and and learn discipline and sportsmanship a place where they could learn to respect others and also to gain that same respect

I submit to you and the citizens of this community thank you thank you the name of Louis Marino thank you thank you good evening morning I'm Simon a little bit sick of my throat here um it's been a while since I've been here wow many many years um Phil just said it um it's a little emotional coming up here

Lou Moreno was a a honored person he was a man of the community of Chino he was a member of the Boxing Club founder of the boxing club um I'm the president of the board right now as we speak Lou Moreno did a lot for this community especially for families native families I remember every year for Thanksgiving he would come to my

house drop off 40 turkeys just to give to everybody in the community of Chino anything that anybody needed he was always there for for everyone um Lou Moreno was everything to a lot of people especially people that have been that are here tonight and um I want to thank you for giving us the opportunity to come up here and to

give us the opportunity to see if we can name this school he deserves it and in my in my eyes in my heart he was in honor honor man to have on the school board for so many years there's a lot of stories that he gave me when he was on the school board and I might have a time

to give you one and I think he'll remember this um he used to sit on this side of the board and I apparently he had his younger son and his young son is here and he would be conducting business and his son was under the chair on the diocese and the father was conducting his board business when he was playing

with his little toys the mom I believe would call and pick up to pick him up Lou would have to walk outside around the area to do to give to uh William to be with his mom and that's one of one of the memories that we have and that I remember that he talked to me about it there was so memory so much

stories that so many kids that he helped when he was a member of the board another one was there was another kid working at Albertsons and that kid wasn't going to graduate because something went on and he would work and he the mother called him who had just got off the uh airplane from coming from a from a business trip that

he had and they thought the mother was crying the phone my son will not graduate he doesn't have enough credits or something like I don't recall Luke got in the car went to the store picked up the kid took him to the school and got him to do everything right and the kid graduated from high school thank

you board thank you thank you so much Yolanda Holguin followed by James Holguin good evening Chino Valley Unified School District the board its staff and also welcome Sanja Shah as the president and I have one thing that I need to say I've known Lewis Moreno since I arrived at the city of Chino that's about 30 years ago I've represented the Rancho

Moreno and the family tonight I speak on behalf of the family I have representation from the family here this evening got the Moreno Family please stand up with pride please [Applause] thank you this is our next generation this is why it is important it doesn't matter if our lord Jesus it was the time to call Mr Moreno

but he was a pillar of our community and did so much for our children I myself have a disabled son with Down Syndrome and there was not one time in the in his life even he was on his way on a police call on the saw team you know working with the city council he was there on

Sunday he would pick up that bone when he was a member of the Chino Valley Unified School District board who you are today he would pick up that phone and he would make the time to listen to us the parents of the community because that's all we have it's you and that's why you hear what you hear

tonight we want to make sure that the olds and the promises that you make are here we need to elect a community leader one who served as the captain of the Chino Police Department with pride one who sat on this school board years and years and years and was a president what an honor the other he was one of the founders of

the Chino youth boxing Foundation and that's how I got recruited also I'm the former president with pride and now I have my president Mike Garcia here I would like to read a statement that means the world to our community I have a lot of respect for developers they have the Deep Pockets and they've done a great job I have that to say but

today we're looking at community and this is this statement there isn't a better pick and the survey nominee than Louis W Moreno on August 19 1935 Louis W Moreno was born in what was known at the time Prado City Lou Moreno grew up on a farm milking cows and raising livestock for the family business the form the Farmland was eventually

imminent domained and turned into what is now Prado Regional State Park once opened on July 2nd 1976 they named the lake Laguna Moreno in dedication of the Moreno family and all of their history in The Prado Basin area Lou Moreno received all of his education from attending and graduating schools located in this District such as anaborba Elementary and later graduated

from Chino high school he would then become the youngest captain in the Chino Police Department in the history of that department he served the community as a police officer for over 30 years after retiring Lou Moreno joined the Chino Valley Unified School District okay oh okay well anyway there is no better counted than Mr Moreno thank you

thank you Louis Moreno Academy thank you officer Louis Moreno Academy how's everybody doing um I'm James sylvine um I'm Yolanda son I will be brief um I just wanted to say that um you guys have heard a lot of stories about Mr Moreno um and he has definitely been an amazing figure in our community very inspiring not only to the youth but to the

community members themselves and very very much so to the youth I personally met Mr Moreno down that hallway um fifth grade I've been a part of Chino Valley Unified School districts in second grade but I met him in sixth grade when I personally was having some problems in school I met Mr I'm sorry I I met Mr Moreno right here

and he guided me and Miss uh Mr Mike Garcia with the with the team club that was basically made to reach youth help people get on track help kids who were um in trouble and you know get them on the right track to graduate and do the best that they can um Lou is a guide to me he was a mentor to

me I was pursuing law enforcement because of Mr Moreno um and uh after I had finished my my program with Cal Poly Pomona I had a change of heart and I actually had a really big talk with Lou I remember sitting at his office on Central Avenue and he had said why don't you try education why don't you go down

the educational route um he said I was more into preventative care I was more in a social work I did love law enforcement I had respected highly but on the flip side I wanted to get into preventative right so with that I kind of took that stride and I ended up becoming a special education teacher I then went on to become a special

education teacher uh in mild moderate and mod severe I'm currently working for Corona Norco Unified School District I went on to also with Mr Miranda's guidance again getting my Master's in education I then went on further to get my um preliminary credential to become a principal we did lose Mr Moreno God Rest his soul but as you guys can see his spirit and

his family is here in the community and I think Deep Roots to a school with being named after someone like him is very not only inspiring to the Youth of this community but he those were his Fields he ran those fields with his family he attended those fields growing up so I just think it's a wonderful story

to think about creating history also promoting diversity in our community and really acknowledging the history in such a Victorious story that he had as a serving Community member thank you guys so much for your time thank you for all that you do and take care thank you so much [Applause] thank you for all your input board members before we begin our

discussion I've asked Dr Enfield to inform us of any general constraints regarding the suggested names Dr Enfield my mic is not working so I'll try to uh use a loud voice so I'm not yelling I'm just trying to project it out when I looked at a couple of the the names that were thank you when I looked at uh some

of the names on the list that were submitted uh just a reminder it's a K-8 school so some of the names that were submitted by the public have Elementary after it so if you select a name you don't want to put Elementary after it because it's a K-8 the other item I saw in there there was uh one in there that

had stem in there please stay away from a stem or steam school because typically those are programs that come from the staff it requires a lot of time to if you made it a stem or steam school then you have to recruit staff that are into that then we have to spend a lot of time on developing the curriculum which takes

a couple of years and there's a lot of professional development that goes into developing a steam or stem school so a cat Academy is okay to put in there but those are two of the ones I ask that the board stay away from putting a stem or steam or Elementary in the title and that's it thank you

thank you Dr Enfield now for that I'm going to need a motion in a second to begin a discussion from that General discussion any board member may choose to make a motion from the suggested names or any other name not suggested by the public your motion should be clear for example I move that the Board of Education approves the naming of The

in in our schools all in favor so I have a still discussion we're on that subject so it's uh Luis Moreno School that that's that's what uh Mr Bridges talking about and I was hearing that um something about Dairyland well we can't talk about that right now yet so yeah yeah yeah I would like to make a amended a

friendly motion no no I just yeah are we still with comments or is he doing we're still doing the comments but I cannot make the friendly motion to add something no we have to stay with this motion I can still do a comment on the motion okay um Mr Cruz your lights on I just wanted to make a comment um

opposed to that motion and I'm not opposed that um Mr Moreno didn't do a lot for the area for the district for the city in general um I'm more opposed of naming it after one individual person there are so many people that contribute to our community and as much as he's done for a majority there's somebody else that's done just as much for

somebody else and I'm more in favor of of naming it to a certain area that everybody experienced and so my comment would be to ask to not name it after one individual person probably good at that okay scene excuse me seeing no Cruise like you said they're all names exactly so what's the difference recently you look at Cal Arrow

audit report Mr Braddock can you can then answer any questions the board might have good evening my name is Scott Braddock and I'm a manager with ID Bailey the district's external Auditors and I'll be presenting the 2122 audited financial statements and the 2122 financial and performance audit of the building fund measure G um I'll begin with the district report

um there's a lot of information in this report but to keep this presentation somewhat brief I'd like to focus mainly on the results of the audit so I'd refer you to page 111. which is the summary of Auditor's results and on this page you'll see three sections the financial statements section the federal Awards section and the state compliance section

and within each of these sections we report an audit opinion when it comes to the different audit opinions that we can report an unmodified opinion is essentially a clean opinion there was nothing that resulted in a modification of our opinion so when you see unmodified it just means a clean audit opinion um so I'll begin with the financial

statement section we issued an unmodified opinion in relation to the financial statement we did not identify any material weaknesses or significant efficiencies in internal controls over financial reporting and we did not identify any instances of non-compliance related to the financial statements we visit the district during the fiscal year to perform procedures over the district's internal control processes

and through those procedures we didn't identify any instances of internal code efficiencies or non-compliance the next section is the federal award section we're required to audit certain federal programs of the district each year and those are shown in the middle of the page under the header identification of major programs and through our audit of those programs we did not identify any material

weaknesses and internal controls significant deficiencies and control controls or any instances of non-compliance related to those programs and again we issued an unmodified opinion related to those programs the last section is the state compliance section similar to the Federal program section we're required to audit various State programs that are specific to the state of California and those are

shown on page one Pages 108 and 109. and through our audits of through our audit of those State compliance areas again an unmodified opinion and no internal control deficiencies so overall just a clean audit no audit findings um with that said are there any questions on the district's financial statements there's no questions but thank you for the information okay

um and then for the measure G report I'd like to refer you to page 18. 17 and 18 uh describe the methodology of the procedures We performed um we added a sample of expenditures incurred in the district's building fund to make sure that there's internal control procedures related to the incurring of those expenditures and that the expenditures themselves are

compliant under the bond measure so item three on page 18 indicates that we are our sample included transactions totaling about 26.6 million which represented about 24 percent of the Total Bond expenditures of about a hundred and eleven million and through our audit of those expenditures again no internal control deficiencies and no instances of non-compliance so a clean audit

any questions in relation to the the building fund audit questions I just have one comment I'm just looking at this and having clean audits I just want to thank our staff for making sure that we cross our T's and daughter eyes good job guys thank you and with that are there any speakers okay we're now at communications board

members and superintendent Mr Bridge thank you just a couple of a couple of quick uh quick things uh uh first of all I've very pleased to see the uh the naming of the of the school for uh for Lewis W Moreno he having been an employee of this district for a long time and and watched what uh

what he did on on this board and for this uh School District in this community I was pleased to see that and proud to to nominate his name um welcome to the second semester uh it's hard to believe that we're already halfway through January and graduations are going to be here before we we know it I had the chance to attend a January

3rd varsity basketball game between Chino high and Don Lugo in the new gymnasium over Chino High uh outstanding close game before uh Chino pulled away in the fourth quarter with a victory but I was pleased to see the uh please see the crowd and how nice the the gym looked as part of my alternate assignment uh for the board

I had the chance to meet with Bali View ROP superintendent Dr Shelly Adams last week and receive a tour of the facility over in South Ontario and I strongly encourage any of our students that are interested in in ROP that they uh they check out the programs that they that is offered through baldy View and I know we

have some on our campus some are elsewhere but they have some really really good programs and encourage people to look into that last night I attended the Chino Hills Parks and Recreation Commission as the new ex-off physio member of that group representing this board and very interesting to hear all of the activities in a report from staff that have occurred and will occur

over in the city of Chino Hills and was quite quite impressive and lastly on a on a sad note and some of you may have known her um Sharon log mccharles passed away briefly not too long ago she was an elementary teacher in this District worked with my wife she was also principal at Townsend Junior High a terrific person we've known her her

family through our church quite a while just sad to sad to have to report that her funeral is scheduled for January 28th the week from a week from Saturday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ontario I don't have the exact time but uh that is that is the plan and just want to offer condolences to the family of

the log family and that concludes my comments tonight thank you Mr Bridge Mr naw yes um Dr anfield uh we had a speaker again today about uh special ed Department uh looking at our selpa concern we need to uh really uh pay attention I think this is uh perhaps like fifth times I'm hearing it from the board meeting I think we need

to make some adjustments and look at what other school districts are doing with durasepa and uh we need to have that plan set and and let's move on Dr Enfield okay thank you um I'd like to uh thank John Miller at Chino high school principal where I had a student confessed to me how great he was as a coach

he had shared with me that principal had volunteered himself to be a coach for a game so that they would not forfeit the game when their coach hand showed up and he was able to really coach the team and I didn't know I didn't ask if they won or not but he was there to support the kids and this is

what uh true educator does they give everything for our children so thank you uh principal Miller I got a letters from Canyon Hills junior high school students and I think it came from one of their government classes and it was an awesome letter where students get to practice writing a letter to the school board members talking about their school and

personal concerns uh Hannah Liu wrote about needing a more awareness program for teenagers about danger of social media so it was very good idea that it's showing me that even teenagers themselves have a concern over social media and Ethan Navarro wrote about having perhaps Sr roles in all the junior high schools for safety manager and and we had a Mr Gallagher talked uh

this evening about that so the students know about to this situation as well so thank you for sharing your thoughts and Benjamin Park wants to have Junior High Sports programs where they could compete uh among different schools and from different school districts in junior high level so that's something that our staffs perhaps could think and maybe find out if other districts are doing it

so this is what it this is about uh we're sharing our thoughts and and knowledge and experiences all of us together and we're here to grow together so thank you for even all your participants tonight being here with us on this cold evening I see familiar faces our future congressmen there love you thank you for being here and being active but and I

like to thank our councilman from Chino Hills uh our Bennett my favorite councilman thank you for joining us but again thank you and um I have a great plan for this new year with our new board and our new student representative as she has been accepted to two colleges already and more to come so I'm so happy for her

and Mr Cruz okay so what what are the consent items that passed was 3.8.2 and that is that the election of officers are now by rotation and the rotation started by um board member Orozco in 2008 and this is this is her quote by having the rotation it assures that any member who is in the minority perceived or real will have an

opportunity to assume the role of President the process is transparent not targeting individuals no politics so that's um back to to its original format since 2008. I do also want to read a letter from from those students that um that wrote research papers on topics so I'll just read this one example thank you for your ongoing dedication

and serving the students of Chino Valley I'm writing to you regarding concerns with the dress code this pressing manner has concerned me due to the outdated issues recently prevent preventing me from reaching my true potential as a student compared to my male peers the current dress code displays inequality between the two genders according to glean Sharon Linda

Morris and Eleanor watcho's article entitled four things Public School can and can't do to dress code under federal laws protecting against discrimination in in education including Title IX title V and the U.S Constitution equals protection guaranteed Public Schools cannot enforce a dress code based on gender or race based on stereotypes about appropriate dress or appearance therefore various

rules in the dress code based on gender difference are a violation of the Constitution these gender-based rules disconnect from its original purpose and the intention to support students for example the article dress code Richmond by Henry F Kerry States dress codes are typically implemented by school districts employees to promote learning safety and image although social release regulations Face First Amendment

challenges by students parents and employees the courts generally support the schools and employers these rules are in place to protect the students and should be in the benefit the learning environment including the experience in public schools schools are intended to protect students from bullying which is not upheld by the current dress code in this article the sexism of School dress

code written by Zao states there is a clear message that male Behavior mail entitlement to your body to public space is socially acceptable but you will be punished the current dress code prompts females to feel ridiculed and lower compared to their male counterparts so a lot of these letters were pretty much topics that are the issue of modern times so thank you for

for those students at um Canyon and as well as the teachers too and then I would like to read some like couple of pages of as you grow sometimes love hurts but love is always worth it so a little picture it's kind of nice isn't it because you've been cared for you care for others tender words is soft

and gives life like a spring rain I like doing this because we have Dr Seuss and I feel so good right now I feel great reading this when you grow big be excited to join something bigger than yourself this is as you grow well written and thank you Mr North for considering this because it is beautiful I know I'll just make this short and

quick okay I know I harp on this so many times but more and more research is coming out about this Spike protein there's been studies and studies comparing to the vaccine and unvaccinated those people getting infected those people are not that are vaccinated the truth is really coming out and I just want to tell you a situation and

and it really bothered me it bothered me a whole lot I I met this woman and she was telling me she was I was picking her up at a hospital taking her to another hospital because frankly they didn't know what to do but after the third booster she had an enlarged heart she had her troponin level was three

she had afib of the worse but she said something like that but before all this before she took the vaccine search her tropulmonary level was that 0.1 and she was there because she started having seizures she started having enough pain but but she was telling me all this and she was telling me you know this doctor the doctor was saying what

do you want me to do these are my words but if this was exactly what do you want me to do do you want me to give you painkillers but not knowing the seriousness of what she was going through and um that was the first time hearing it really that drastic but I've heard many of these stories very subtle but the

truth is coming out and um they I was going to talk about some studies but I'm not going to bring it up but maybe next next board meeting but um I think I think all of us have to be aware now and and if and if in my my personal opinion this is my personal opinion okay and this is what I tell my family

my cousins is that if you've been vaccinated maybe it's good to take a troponin level to see if there has been inflammation in your heart and a d dimer test to see if you have microscopic blood clots just to be on the safe side because this was an experiment it's not affecting people others yes it is a

systematic however these antigens are in your body for months months and maybe for a long long time so to feel safe and and you know those two tests I've been hearing it's a good indication you know to to relieve you know the state of your being that's about it thank you thank you Mr Cruz uh Mr Monroe

I'm gonna make this quick thank you for those of you that came out your comments I took many notes I am open to meet with anybody that wants to and discuss topics I will give you my information if you wait afterwards if you want to talk to me yourself or if you have a group of people that would love to talk I'm I'm

all ears I'd love to hear um I do want to mention two quick things for you uh Mr Bridge talked about Chino and Don Lugo at Chino uh the rematch is tomorrow so join me at Don lugo's semi-repainted gym as uh Don Lugo and Chino face off again in basketball um I'll be there so come join me and

then join me again February 4th uh Russ Miller 5K those of you that are local Russ Miller Foundation supports a lot of our kids a lot of our local youth our sporting programs after school programs that money that is raised specifically from this run the Run goes directly back into our community to benefit our families and kids so if you've got uh

free time on Saturday really there's no place better to be than that the Russ Miller run so come join us there February 4th um at the Civic Center thank you sir and I will see you there and have a good night thank you Mr Monroe and then tonight I want to recognize that the board did approve the name of a

new school the Lewis W Moreno school with Dad we're in the process of building that school so what we will be doing or what we currently have done we put out the de caldero Community looking for volunteers parents at uh at the school site to be a part of the District boundary committee because the Cal Arrow School boundary

now will have to be divided to create a new boundary for the new school to be able to put kids there so we've advertised in the community there's an application on the Calera you need to live in their area but we're again looking for parents to be a part of that committee as we look at that also what I want to ask or let the board

know and let the community know at our next board meeting we will do a board presentation on the process because I want to make sure it's clear to everybody to the board and to the community the process that we're going to go through in changing the boundaries because that's all we say it's never a fun process but it's one that we have to

do because there's going to be different prices here that we're looking for for both both of the schools what's the timeline how are we going to go about that how are we going to get input so we want to go ahead and provide all that information so I'll have a board presentation on on February 2nd board meeting regarding the boundary process

for caldero and for the Lewis W Moreno school so that's my comment thank you Dr Enfield I do want to say that originally I had asked for the naming of the school recommended that it would be Dairyland Academy after hearing the community I was going to recommend Lou Moreno's Dairyland Academy I thought it would be fun because you know everybody did

advocate for his name but I'm glad that we're able as a community to honor somebody who did such great things for our children I do want to just read a couple sentences I am very very impressed with one of our Canyon Hills history teachers um she taught the the kids how to write letters and advocate for things that you

need or want or you see that need to be changed and I think it was impressive these letters are very well written and a couple of them were shared with me um and I and a few things because I don't want to put any names out there on the children just to make sure because I didn't have their permission but one's

an eighth grader and they attend the school and and one sentence that they said is I'm ever concerned about the safety of me and my peers as we attend what is supposed to be a safe environment to learn learn and be stimulated the safety of the citizens of the US is top priority and I'm asking you to create a new law so it would be

so and then they go on to advocate for their case and with that I I know that you brought up some concerns about safety that I had as well so we will be following up on those I know um just even speaking with Mr Monroe there's a lot of things that um we have we have good uh good hands on deck to be

able to make sure that our kids are safe also we have another one that I believe that our Junior High High School athletics in our district would be beneficial and successful and they go on to say why they would be successful in a junior high setting which I think is amazing because um generally speaking junior high is

kind of that middle spot and many of you who have had kids in that age they know that's a kind of a tough challenging age so I mean reading through these letters it was just amazing to see exactly what the kids are saying that they need to be successful there was also one other one I want to mention but they were talking

about class sizes and why it affects their education and I thought wow these kids are really speaking volumes um and and it just reminded me that we definitely need to be in communication as parents and Educators and and staff with our children and make sure if they're if they have a concern or they have an idea that we actually follow

through and show them that their ideas and concerns are valid and because I think with them they're they're our future and if we listen to them we have we definitely have um opportunity for a successful future I will say this um I do want to put a resolution on the next meeting um asking for a letter to be sent to

Sacramento opposing the new selpa extension I don't know if many of you guys know what the new things and the and the laws being proposed and bills being proposed with our special ed but just in the past couple of years listening to parents my heart is broken for the challenges that they have to face when they have a kid

who has special needs and I want right now it's going through committees and they're trying to extend just so you guys kind of know and give you a brief history they're trying to extend and lock in districts that are trying to get out for an additional two years of what they have already have been in and so I

asked the community if this is something that touches your heart you think it's important please link arms I'm gonna again as a board member now ask Dr Enfield to look into how we can maybe get a sped committee going of parents because we're going to need the help um and in order for us to do our job we

definitely need the assistance and then I will also be bringing Force the resolution to write the letter so that way we can send it to committees as a board and show the district is standing with our parents and our students and that way the lobbyists right now are that we know are lobbying for this and and most of those are being sent by the

self but from my understanding we need parents to start helping us lobbying in Sacramento to protect our children so I think that's very important um I will say this we had a Saturday special board meeting um it was fun I I asked Dr special study session sorry it wasn't no crazies for me that we were deciding something crazy

as you see in the news but um I'm glad it didn't cause a panic because it was really just to learn protocol so we do our job well it was also to see if we want to implement any changes as the board to our meetings there is a couple suggestions that were brought forth and of course we'll always give you the

opportunity before their past to be able to speak on those things that were suggested um Also let's see Dr Enfield maybe we can look into this together but I would like to see if there's a briefing on litigation on sped cases that the board can start receiving maybe just a brief okay that way we can get an idea of how

much and what we are spending our time and money fighting on these parents for um I also want to say if I know you brought up some concerns about being attacked in the audience please please just reach out to me I didn't know about that or the security we don't want that happening especially to any children um

and let me see the ROP I attended my first board meeting last week and I know that she mentioned that you went on the tour too um I personally think as a parent our kids need to know more about the programs that are offered over there um because there is a lot of opportunity for our kids and I think that some of

them may be missing so I'm going to try to find out a way that we can maybe get more information out on that and let's see Flores for the Cub Scouts I will definitely try to follow through and see what we can do on that end working with you and I want to pretty much thank everybody for your participation and

attendance I want to close in honor of Deputy Calhoun um we have amazing First Responders fire and police officers here in the Chino Valley and it's unfortunate when you hear these things and it really really it just hits really hard and it's and it shouldn't be this way um so I mean I just asked that you know
