the Board of Education provided Council Direction no further action was taken which requires public disclosure thank you Pat now leading the Pledge of Allegiance tonight as a special guest we have Gabriella one nation under God indivisible through Liberty and just for all we are now on to recognitions one of the things I have found most enjoyable as a

member of the board of education is seeing firsthand the countless students who excel in their educational Journeys tonight it gives us the opportunity to recognize a handful of students who have demonstrated their perseverance and commitment to their education students as I call your name please join me at the podium foreign and I don't want to butcher your last

name but it starts with the S so please please meet me at the podium [Applause] thank you okay our first guest of honor is William sahogan William is a senior at the alternative education virtual program and has been in the program since he entered seventh grade William has a GPA of 4.27 he's accomplished some pretty remarkable things despite being

diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome as a young child William has overcome so much and done well academically and socially especially with the opportunities in Virtual program William is a three-year habitat for a Humanity volunteer and the recipient of the 2023 Habitat Humanity Community Builder award William is a 2020 cim sorry Sim SEF San Bernardino Inyo and Mono County science and engineering Fair

silver Medal winner in the and 2021 simsf Gold Medal winner in the area of Applied mechanics and structures do you see a pattern William plans to attend UCI majoring in robotics and continue you on to graduate school to become a robotics engineer wow that's simply amazing William on behalf of the Board of Education please accept the certificate in recognition of your

academic and personal successes we are so proud of you sorry good enough okay guys sorry excuse me if I get a little emotional reading some of these and just hearing um by the way their principles I add asked them to participate in just identifying a student that has been extra extraordinary and actually one school we had somebody reach out to me to bring a

student forth too and just seeing how many accomplishments that these these students have done it's just amazing and that's why we have you guys here tonight the next one we have is Zane Poulter and Dr B wished he can be here but he's with his athletes for prior commitments but okay [Applause] Zane is a senior at Chino Hills High

School Zane is a student athlete with the GPA of 4.25 Zane's focus and discipline have driven him to Excel on and off the athletic field Zane is an Exemplar exemplary scholar athlete check this out all CIF football two time one first team all-league football team captain three years he's dual sport athlete two-time husky Award winner four-year husky scholar athlete AP

scholar leadership team and treasurer of The Fellowship of the Christian athletes club and if that wasn't amazing enough Zane was a recipient of the Baseline League outstanding senior Awards and voted by the league as the top senior and given the football Citrus athletic Directors Association scholarship award given only to one athlete for All Sports in the entire league Zayn plans to

continue his education on his full ride scholarship to United States Military Academy at West Point Zane on behalf of the Board of Education congrats regulations for your tremendous discipline and dedication next we have Gabriella Gandara did I say your last name right [Applause] Gabriella was not only nominated by her principal but we had somebody from the community reach out to us in regards to

her and her principal did agree that she is an amazing student so Gabriella you're a senior at Don Lugo High School and she is originally from how do you say it thank you Gabriella came to the United States at a young age of six and has been a Chino resident ever since she has become very active in her community

throughout the years as well on on campus some of her accomplishments on campus include founding the latinx Student Union Club chairperson of the Teen advisory committee for the city of Chino she's a she was at ASB vice president representative to SAC and Don Lugo High School salitorian her dream and heart is to help unrepresentative members in her

community by becoming a lawyer well her dream Journey starts in the fall as she attends Harvard University on a full ride scholarship Gabriella on behalf of the Board of Education we wish you the best of luck as you continue your educational journey and achieve your dream of helping your community thank you for being amazing [Music] being here

Nyla joins us from the Chino High School with a GPA of 4.0 Nyla has been accepted to multiple universities and is decided to attend the University of La Verne next year tonight we recognize nyler for her dedication to education as she demonstrated by her amazing perfect attendance from kindergarten to present even during the pandemic Nyla did not

miss at all not only did she attend every single period but Nyla has also never been late to a class during her Junior High and high school experience Nyla on behalf of the Board of Education we congratulate you and thank you for being amazing I do see your jacket full of amazing accomplishments and we're very very proud of you thank you for

coming tonight of course [Applause] okay next we have Danny Rodriguez are you embarrassed it's okay I get nervous too thank you for being here tonight um Danny comes with us from boys republic High School Danny's story is one of hardship laced with perseverance Danny's early educational experience has not been very sick was not very successful leading him to drop out of

high school in the ninth grade unfortunately without Direction Danny has caught up committing felonies and sentenced him into juvenile hall Danny came to Boys Republic in October of 2022 and his only intention was to do his time and get out the decision before Danny was to obtain either obtain a GED or a high school diploma the latter

being the toughest Danny decided to challenge himself and go for his high school diploma despite the fact that Danny was reading a fourth grade level he worked incredibly hard to get his credits he needed in fact he earned more credits in a shorter period in time than any student at boys republic in the last decade Danny is now graduating in June

of this year and his commitment doesn't stop there Danny plans to start Community College in the fall and guess what Danny no longer reads at a fourth grade level he took the Scholastic Reading inventory last week and he reads at a Collegiate level Danny on behalf of the Board of Education we are so proud of you for your academic and personal success

and thank you for letting us be part of it foreign last one isn't this fun it's beautiful okay and finally let's welcome Rafael Gomez [Applause] thank you for coming great job okay Raphael is another Don Logo High School student who has demonstrated exceptional academic success Raphael is the youngest of two children raised by his single mother he is the first to

attend a four-year University in his family through his hard work and perseverance Raphael is attending UCLA this fall majoring in bioengineering with the major with only a five percent acceptance rate he wants to further his education by attending medical school and his goal is to help the on-served community Raphael on behalf of the Board of Education congratulations on your

achievement and we wish you the best of luck to focus on your educational goals we are so very proud of you thank you and to all your families for being here tonight now we're going to get on with our regular board stuff which you do not have to stay please feel free to exit at this time we don't

yes you're more than welcome to get up and leave right now but if you want to stay you're all all the welcome thank you for coming tonight we are so extremely proud of you guys thank you [Applause] me too dang sorry inspiring for sure okay we are now on to the staff report Dr Park president Shaw members of the board

superintendent Enfield cabinet and community we have our annual update to the board of education on the work of the teaching and learning task force the teaching and learning task force is made up of a broad representation of teachers act Representatives administrators and our superintendent who work together to develop a unified vision and direction for the instructional Focus for our students

the purpose of the task force is to establish a system-wide implementation a few teaching and learning priorities across the school district through what we call the areas of emphasis the areas of emphasis allow us to make a deliberate effort to align our work through a common understanding and vocabulary to improve the outcomes for all students and by focusing on a few priorities

together we're able to prevent initiative fatigue and better support our staff through a coherent professional development plan the task force meets annually to establish teaching and learning priorities for the next school year we met early October to review student achievement outcomes on the smarter balanced assessments along with our essential standards assessment which is our local District assessment

based on our data analysis of student needs the task force confirmed that the areas of emphasis that were established for this school year were still relevant and the staff would benefit from another year to continue our journey with learning to ensure a two-way communication system a feedback survey to elicit the supports needed to deepen the areas of emphasis

and a message of the task Force's work was created and would be sent out to staff then from January 9th through the 20th a feedback survey was administered to our staff the task force convened again in February and reviewed the survey results from our teaching staff and administrators based on staff input we discussed the professional development implications

and staff's preferred methods for delivering professional development to support to support the needs of our teachers at the conclusion of our day we also drafted a message that would be sent out to our staff the areas of emphasis we will continue through the 23-24 school year will include essential standards a guaranteed and viable curriculum for all of our

students professional learning communities which is plc a framework for Teacher teams on collaborating around four critical questions first what is it that we want all students to learn second how will we know if our students have learned what is essential third how will we respond when some of our students have not learned it and finally how will we extend the

learning for our students who have demonstrated proficiency and our last area of emphasis will be student engagement through collaborative communication one of the task forces essential functions is to seek and gather input from our teachers and administrators and use this information to derive the development of the areas of emphasis and professional development we had 462 teachers participate

and 78 administrators who also provided input on the teaching and learning task force survey on the survey teachers and administrators were asked to identify the level of support that was needed to implement essential standards through professional learning community and identify their preferred method for receiving professional development in order to deepen the implementation of these areas of emphasis

from a scale of four indicating a high level of support needed to a score of one which is low level of support both Elementary and secondary teachers along with their Elementary administrators reported needing a lower level of support as reflected in the score of two with secondary administrators reporting a moderate level of support with a score of 2.5

elementary teachers identified structured PLC release time which is structured time with their colleagues and workshop or training as their preferred methods for receiving staff development our elementary administrators secondary teachers and secondary administrators identified the need for observing best practices through modeling co-planning and co-teaching in the classroom along with structured PLC release time as their preferred methods for receiving professional development

in our final area of emphasis for student engagement through collaborative communication the task force confirmed that the best method for professional development was through structured PLC release time where teams in the context of their planning for instruction could collaborate around infective engagement strategies using District created resources the work of the teaching and learning task force allows us to carry out a

coherent and unified Vision to support teaching and learning it is informed by the California school dashboard the essential standards assessment and also Guided by the priorities on our local control and accountability plan with the collaboration of our Educators we're able to align district-wide professional development for all teachers and administrators on our areas of emphasis additionally with the feedback from that

same survey we're also able to provide customized professional development for our administrators and schools can customize their professional development based on staff's reported unique learning needs so where do we go with this work based on the input gathered from the teaching and learning task force along with our survey the division of curriculum instruction Innovation and support will Design

professional development for the 2324 areas of emphasis we will also provide schools with additional feedback gathered from the survey so schools can offer customized learning for their staff we'll also communicate and tie all of our professional development so that it connects back with those areas of emphasis and we will gather feedback at every professional development session to evaluate our teaching and learning

needs but most importantly we will monitor the impact of our professional learning on student learning with the systems that we have in place this will be accomplished in several ways in addition to analyzing student outcomes on the California school dashboard and on our local essential standards assessments all schools will participate in Collaborative Learning rounds to gauge the impact of

implementation data of those aoes on student learning and finally from the data chats that we have with our administrators twice a year we'll be able to assess together the impact professional development as having on student learning at the individual sites and this concludes our annual update from the teaching and learning task force thank you Dr Park we appreciate that

does anybody have any questions comments did you Mr knot yeah um yeah we just met our high school graduates are going to a West Point Harvard and and all these success stories because of our learning in our school district I remember Dr Park when you're a principal within one year you have raised 55 points I believe in one year I

think that was a record but your report also shows that that you you're bringing are not only our district staffs District staffs but teachers together because our Core Business is a teaching and and have our students learn education and it's happening but one thing that touches me is that we have other a sector of our student body

where for instance boys republic and and Buena Vista High School and those are students also are working very hard to achieve their best in their lives so let's do our best to to make sure they do accomplish their goals because all students need to have same opportunities now um here I like to add something more as we're going back to the normal life

after the pandemics if we could help um retain our education or progress our education even at home via technology or some type of apps that are available to our students let's do invest on those things to help out those students as well thank you so much Dr Park Mr Bridge Dr Park thank you for that for this

report and the one thing that I was pleased to see on the areas of emphasis and for support with professional development and the fact that schools are going to offer customized professional development I'm glad to see that because I I think most staffs don't mind going to professional development if they feel that that it's it's worth their while and they get something out

of it and to have it structured to a particular staff at a site and not just general I'm glad I'm glad to see that and I'm glad to see the report that this committee put out so thank you very much thank you Mr bridge I would also like to thank you for that as well because oftentimes just as parents and even now

board members we hear the uniqueness of all the schools and just finishing all the site visits I it just opened my eyes on how unique each School site is and how unique they run things which makes I think Chino Valley pretty uh awesome but I just I love that you are customizing and listening to the staff of their

needs that that is truly what we need to do so thank you for that we are now on to comments from our student representative Miss King good evening board president Shaw members of the board and distinguished guests I want to start off by congratulating our new student board representative for the next year coaches from Ayala High School it is an

honor to be able to sit up on this board and I'm excited to pass this position on to you good luck and I hope the seat treats you well I have a lot of support updates from around the district as a lot of our sports are doing super great this season from Chino High School swim track and

field softball golf tennis and baseball teams have all made CIF girl assuming has won League champions for the third year in a row along with softball and girls track and field Boys Tennis secured their lead champion spot for the first time in nine years our boys volleyball team had their very first season this year with an amazing team

turnout from Don Lugo High School their baseball and softball teams have one link Champs they both have their first round of CIF tomorrow at home Boys Tennis had a pair of advanced to semi-finals for CIF and boys golf has a couple advancing to CIF as well um from Chino Hills High School the girls swim team is undefeated in League

breaking eight school records total this year girls and boys varsity track and field are League undefeated Champions and have 30 athletes participating in CIF which is the second mix and the second highest qualifying team in CIF this year for track uh boys volleyball is currently competing in CIF semifinals this Saturday boys golf has four players advancing to the first round of CIF

girls softball is playing in CIF as division one I will have updates for Ayala High School at the next meeting I don't have those right now but I'll have them next time congratulations to All Sports and athletes on an amazing season being a student athlete is not an easy thing to do and it's really good to see so many

of our students in our district selling in their Sports and also being able to manage that with school for those of you who are unaware this past Monday May 1st was College decision day and I want to give a huge congratulations to all seniors and students in our district who committed to a college are attending the military

joined the workforce or anything just graduating is a huge accomplishment it's right around the corner and I just I'm very very proud of our class we have a lot of like you guys saw the students here we have a lot of really good students in our class that's not even um that was only what five students I'm

pretty sure there's there's so many more and uh I just want to congratulate everybody that's all I have to say tonight thank you have an wonderful night thank you Miss King thanks for keeping us updated and we are so very proud of you as well and your acceptance to your college next up we're on comments from the

employee Representatives we have Brenda Walker from Act good evening president Shaw School Board member superintendent Enfield District cabinet members of the CVUSD community and guests first I'd like to congratulate all the students that were here tonight tremendous accomplishments at Harvard oh my gosh West Point wonderful and also to the student athletes they're doing such an amazing job and we just want to wish

everyone all the students the graduating seniors those going on to the military success in their future endeavors the other thing I wanted to talk about is the fact that next week is a special week in education we are so pleased that teachers will be recognized and celebrated next week during Teacher Appreciation Week for their hard work dedication and

commitment to their students and Families not only is next week to teacher appreciation week but May 10th is designated as the California day of the teacher and national school nurse day thank you to the board members for the upcoming resolutions our teachers and nurses do deserve it why because their major part of why our district is a top performing District

teachers teach and nurses take care of students medical needs but before they do this they plan and plan some more they collaborate attend trainings conduct trainings attend meetings before and after school and keeps keep parents informed all this in a day's work thank you teachers and nurses and for that matter all our members you deserve Kudos Applause to be

showered with gifts and last but certainly not least a raise that demonstrates that you are appreciated for all that you do and we do join the district in celebrating classified employees week later this month as well we appreciate every classified employee in every Department because because you helped to keep this District running I appreciate your attention this evening

and I wish you a good night thank you so much Mrs Walker we have Danny Hernandez from csca board members superintendent and field cabinet staff and Community April 25th was bus driver appreciation day I'd like to thank each and every one of them for the uh of each one of the bus drivers and the transportation staff for the work

that they do for our students and Community daily Andy our communications director thank you also for posting some of those pictures online it's always great to see the students interacting with staff we don't not everybody gets a chance to get out to the school sites on May 13th Chino 102 will be having a car show here at the

district site so if you're able to please attend next week like Miss Walker mentioned that next week is Teacher Appreciation Week today having a conversation with a colleague she mentioned that she loved being a teacher not liked but loved part of the resolution tonight states that inventive practices and creativity thinking back on my school years many teachers went above and beyond for me

I know that not has not changed for today's students so teachers thank you I think it's very evident with the students that we that you were able to recognize today this district is doing an awesome job um what I know it's been mentioned but the parents of those teachers excuse me of those students deserve just as much

alades as they do and then April 21st excuse me May 21st through the 27th is classified employees week School Employees are an essential and integral part of an effective school system we help provide a safe clean and healthy environment for students to learn bus drivers custodians clerical staff security kitchen staff paraprofessionals and anyone else I forgot to mention all

take part in the education of students so thank you thank you Mr Hernandez and do we have Barbara Bearden from champ good evening president Shaw school board members Dr Enfield cabinet and the Chino Valley Community earlier this week teachers and administrators gathered to celebrate Mr Josh rieger's AXA region 12 co-administrator of the Year award at the AXA region 12 spring celebration I

would like to thank Dr Enfield Dr Park Mrs fellows Mrs Lau Ms Han and Mrs Verdugo for being there I love how our cabinet and administrators support each other in CVUSD this week well this week some schools across the district are celebrating teacher appreciation week I want to thank the teachers for everything you do to ensure our students will be successful members

of our community thank you to the families who supported their children by getting them to school on time for Casp testing over the last few weeks we appreciate your support in providing an opportunity for your children to Showcase all they know for those who celebrate I hope you have a safe and fun Cinco de Mayo tomorrow and

going to be going on the next week or two uh right here in this wonderful city of Chino uh this Saturday May 6th the city of Chino will be holding a community open house at the Chino Community Building located at 5443 B Street next Saturday May 13th we will be hosting a similar Community open house at The Preserve

Community Center located at 15800 Main Street down south both events will give our community members the opportunity to come together and help plan Chino's future as we collectively proceed with the Chino General Plan update there's going to be a barbecue lunch photo booths a coloring station all this stuff will be available down there for all questions please uh go to the city of

Chino website and you'll be able to answer that we invite students and their families to come out to Chino bike day on Saturday May 13th from 7 30 to 11 o'clock am at Ayala Park located at 5575 Edison this is a free event event that allows participants to enjoy a 15-mile community bike ride a bicycle safety workshop and a two-mile

family friendly bike ride refreshments and Raffles will also be provided throughout the morning and you can find out more information on our website as well on Monday May 15th the Chino youth Museum will host the spring Bingo Bash at brinderson Hall located at 5410 Edison the Chino museum is a wonderful local Museum that is visited by our

students and families from the region by attending this event you'll be supporting the museum the doors are going to open at 5 15 with dinner at 5 30. and bingo is going to start at 6 30. register and purchase tickets at the Chino youth Museum located at 13191 6th Street or for many locations throughout the city the tickets are thirty dollars

and twenty five dollars for those that are 55 and older so board member Monroe you can go to that at a cheaper rate lastly please note that Chino City Hall will be closed on Monday May 29th in observance of Memorial Day City Hall will reopen the following day Tuesday May 30th at its regular operating hours of 7 30 to 5 30. we encourage everyone

to come out on Monday May 29th at 10 A.M to the Chino Community Building as we observe Memorial Day an event that's hosted by the American Legion and the city of Chino this is a great event that allows us to honor those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the service to our country for more information once

and not the crowd so today I wanted to take a break from the regularly scheduled discussions on the Erasure of black voices in this District to address something that has been on my mind since after the first meeting I attended it's important to me it's important for elected officials to understand how their constituents see them but I don't

think that some of you guys understand how you're coming across to those that are watching you either in this room or online so I thought I would help you understand so going forward you are under no delusions on what people think of you and your demeanor up here member na I'm not sure that I understand what you think will happen to you and

your people in this District once you guys are done erasing me and mine Mr Cruz I don't know what happens in your mind that you think it's not embarrassing to do everything short of when someone doesn't agree with you Miss Shaw I applaud you for your dignity and Grace to be able to take the heat but I think

that you may be in a little over your head based on who put you up there in the first place and superintendent sometimes it seems that you're so checked out one time I actually saw you asleep and Mr Monroe and Mr Ridge Mr Monroe even though as a former officer if I'm not mistaken we definitely won't agree

on most things I thank you for your ability to see the opposing Viewpoint with dignity and Grace and allow us to maintain our self-respect and of course Mr bridge I want to truly thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing the right thing no matter what anybody else thinks says or feels and that right there is why next time it comes for

election day I'm going to make sure that I do everything in my power to make sure you are at the helm because that strength of character and christ-like behavior is exactly what we like to see up there so next week I promise my my children until they are recognizing this District I will be at every meeting and in everyone's face until you guys do

right by our kids because they deserve nothing short of that and even though you guys all shut down every time I come up here and you don't seem to care one day you will and I just want to be there when you do thank you thank you Virginia Renteria followed by Misty good evening board and I just want to

say that it's truly um amazing the kids that were up here it gives me hope that we have hope for America we have hope in our kids to see the kids and and to listen to their accomplishment that's quite a task um I'm so happy that our board meeting is seems to be civilized and I came here

this evening because basically of what happened in Riverside I just don't want that to happen in our school district I understand Chino Chino Hills High School has had a couple of problems so somehow our board we need to get something together whether it be parent volunteers to go at lunch times and stand there because even though when

they have fights on the campus kids they don't jump in they just whip out their little cameras and they're just videotaping so I think it's horrendous what's been happening but on the flip side is most of you may have heard of that 12 year old boy that spoke up because at the at a school board meeting because he was wearing a

t-shirt that said there's only two genders and he was um blasted for it because of the agenda the CRT this lbgd beak whatever um agenda that's there God made two genders male and female and nothing will change that our school board meetings the last one I was here at was appalling really appalling they just attack and I

do thank you Sonia because you have shown dignity under massive attacks which says a lot for our our decision and just let it be known parents spoke up that's why you're where you're at a lot of us grandparents parents Aunts Uncles we got out there and we voted we pushed knocked on every door to get you where

you're at and we'll do the same for Mr non Mr Cruz and Mr Monroe that was basically my feeling is that I just don't want I want our kids to be protected our high school as I drive by Ayala High School every morning I see the kids and I'm a little bit appalled at how kids are dressing I wish we had a

dress code again when I was in the 11th grade is when they allowed girls to wear pants which was a big thing we've gone from that to where we have now where you see kids going to school dressed like they just rolled out of bed or even worse so I don't know if we can do if our board can do anything but can you

imagine if Chino Valley Unified School District kids actually would dress up I used to be a manager for a lot of years and I would talk to my employees when you dress like a professional professional thank you thank you Misty um I heard something today in a podcast and it stuck with me and I've been thinking about it throughout the day and

I thought I would share the person said we believe what we want to believe and if you think about that um and we ask ourselves what do we what do we believe do we really believe truth or are we just telling ourselves stories that fit an agenda there's been a lot of stories about some of you board members

and is that truth or is that just what we want to believe because it fits our if it's our story um I believe and I want to believe that we have an amazing board here in front of me all of you I know are hard-working um I see you going to events and supporting our youth our students and I

see amazing things from this board and I believe that and I hope that other people want to believe that because if they want to believe then they can then they will and that is going to change the way that all of our school board meetings go because we're not we're not trying to find the Bad and the

doubt and the negative um I the story has been written about many of us in the audience hear that we are racist that we are transphobic that we are whatever against blacks and we hate CRT and this and that whatever that's a story and that's what they want to believe okay I have a transgender cousin female male to female

I love my cousin I love my cousin I want what's best for her but that doesn't mean that I want my kids to be indoctrinated I had a patient today transgender female to male I didn't treat her any different we had great conversations we had we were talking the whole time you would never know that any there was nothing in

between us so I feel like there's the stories that are being written because people want to believe these stories and I'm just out here I just wanted to say that we need to think about the truth thank you some delicious changes in delicious yes thank you to all of our speakers tonight we are now on to changes and deletions

purely discussion we have item 2a1 it's the boundary options presentation for Cal Aero preserve Academy and preserve School number two it's recommended that the Board of Education discuss the boundary number two Pat are there any speakers we have one speaker Jennifer Lexi Alexi Mr satura will hear your presentation right after her if that's okay thank you good evening

my name is Jen malixi I'm a preserve resident and have been a parent at calero for the past 11 years I'm also a teacher at calero most recently I was a member of the boundary committee that reviewed the boundary options for The Preserve schools the district as you're going to see in the presentation had four key objectives

in creating the boundaries for the preserved schools it is my strong belief that boundary Option 1 is the only option that meets these objectives the first objective is to reduce enrollment at Cal Arrow to a manageable level we currently have almost 1700 students with about over 1300 present on a daily basis our campus capacity is 900 so we have

over 400 kids above that capacity every day this is not manageable we currently have hallway pods that are being used as classrooms closets that are used as offices and storage and every possible nook and cranny we have outgrown the additional Portables that were added in 2019 and next year teachers will need to share classrooms resources in space are stretched very

thin unless you're on campus on a daily basis I don't think you truly understand the impact the overcrowding has on every student teachers support staff and administrator at Cal Arrow the second objective is to remove portable classrooms from Cal arrow in order to reclaim lost playground space option one is the only option that brings enrollment low enough to do this

having been at recess Duty many of days I can testify to the crowding on the recess and the effect it has on behaviors at recess the third objective is to balance the enrollments at both schools based on school capacities and allowing for growth option one is the only option that balances the enrollment between the two schools it is also the only option

that brings Cal Aero close to its capacity lastly the fourth objective in creating the boundaries is to maintain educational parity between both schools again option one is the only option that allows for this leaving Cal Arrow over capacity puts Cal Arrow students at a disadvantage options two three and four leave the new school with a junior high

enrollment of between 100 and 150 students this is very small for a junior high and would limit the classes and experiences that are offered to the junior high The Preserve Community has waited for this school for a long time please choose option one which would benefit our students and Community the most thank you thank you so much thank you for coming

and your your input means a lot so thank you yes thank you for serving on the committee too okay great Mr satura good evening word president Shaw board members Dr Enfield cabinet and community so about two months ago we gave pretty much the same presentation that went over the process for creating the boundaries for Colorado preserve Academy and preserve School number two

so here we are today May 4th and we've gone through the motions of the the boundary committee and I'll go over the presentation and then you'll see some maps that were created that our Consultants will go over with you so as a refresher preserve School number two timeline in October of 2022 we began construction on the new school

in November of 22 the board approved contracts with Davis demographics for our student population forecasts demographics and Boundary Consultation Services in December of 22 the boundary committee application for interested Cal arrow and preserve area community members was posted on the district and Colorado websites and issued in the Chino Champion for publication January of 23 this year the board

approved our contract with Eric Hall and Associates who is our boundary consultant for their services and also in January the boundary committee application window closed from February of 23 through this past April we had a total of 13 boundary committee and calero preserve Academy Community meetings and then fast forward into the next July the school is scheduled the new school

is scheduled to open real quickly our boundary committee members were made up of three Cal Aero employees our principal Lori Warner the assistant principal who's also a Colorado Community resident has students at Calera and then Ms Melissa who just spoke she's the teacher at Colorado and she's also a parent and Community member and then the the remaining members were

all Cal Aero parent or preserve and preserve Community residents and then the last three are not parents at the school but they are preserved Community residents so this is a Google Earth image of about from about ten thousand feet of the Cal Arrow boundary the school there circled in yellow that is Calera preserve Academy the second School circled in yellow

that's preserve School number two and then the red dots indicate where each of our boundary committee members live within The Preserve community so we have a pretty good spread and coverage throughout the community by by the different members District staff that we've worked with on all the committee meetings are Beverly Beamer director of planning La fellow assistant superintendent curriculum

myself Sandra Chen associate supernov business and then our district Consultants David Cates and Esau Joya from Davis demographics and Bob Nicholson Nicholson from Eric Hall and Associates and as previously mentioned the key objectives we considered were to reduce enrollment at Colorado preserve Academy to a manageable level currently there's about a little over 1300 students on campus daily with just under 1700 total

enrolled at the school second objective is to remove portable classrooms from the Calera playground to reclaim lost playground space balance the enrollments at Colorado preserve Academy and preserve School number two based on school capacities with room for growth at both schools and then to maintain educational parity between both schools which will also ensure Financial efficiency so the boundary development timeline

from February through April 23 we held a total of five meetings with our boundary committee from March of this past this past March through April of 23 we held a total of eight meetings with the Colorado preserve Academy community at the school we had them mornings and evenings on four different dates and then from April 13th through April

21st a survey was sent to All parents of calero preserve Academy to get their input on the different scenarios they were provided with the maps so they could make a an educated decision on what they thought was best based on the objectives that were presented and then on our next board meeting May 18th we'll have an action item for you

guys to for the board to take action and decide what the boundaries will be so with that I'm going to turn it over to Bob Nicholson and David Cates from Davis demographics and Eric holler Associates and they're going to go over the maps that were created and everything else thank you Mr Speaker my colleague and I are honored to be

here with you tonight to talk about this boundary adjustment and to explain what it was that Davis demographics put together to help with this process and to make this as easy as possible for you to then look at and to discuss for your decision purposes so this is the current boundary map and you can see the Red Dot

here with the big circle for the school Calera preserve and here are the streets that bound the boundaries of both of these schools with preserve School number two coming in 2024. here's Kimball Avenue and here's Pine Avenue in this scenario which has been discussed already and which is presenting to you that in the 2024-25 school year this boundary will have

about 952 K-8 students at the Cal Aero preserve Academy that will leave about 818 K-8 students at preserve School number two here's the bickmore street boundary between the blue and the pink you can see where it makes sense to have the community divided in this way so this is representative of all of the study areas in this boundary it shows that in the

blue areas some of the undeveloped area which would be the airport which will never be developed and then down in the lower corner you can see that there is a park near the new new preserve School so we did some ideas thoughts and adjustments we moved a community into a different alignment and you can see the effect of that for the 2020 425 school

year has preserve Academy at 1118k students and the new school would be at 656. in scenario three we have 1220 students at preserve Academy and we would have about 550 students at the new school in scenario four we would have about 1343 students at preserve Academy and 428 students so the picture here that is being developed helps to show where

everybody was listening intently offering suggestions providing input and thinking about what were the consequences of any one of these scenarios and which scenario might be best under these conditions so the survey results show that scenario one had the highest percentage of yes to that one working the best for the district scenario two had about 18 percent and

scenario three had about 14 percent and in scenario four we had about 13 percent now there was at least one maybe two members of the community of the committee that did not vote and so you can see the distribution here the boundary committee's recommendation was overwhelmingly in favor of scenario one scenario two at about 10 percent and

scenario three about ten percent whoops and that brings us to the opportunity for addressing any questions that you may have my colleague David Cates is with me today from Davis demographics and together as a team we worked collaboratively to bring this presentation and to help manage this committee to a point where we are here today awesome thank you you're welcome board

members do you have any questions comments concerns real quick yes sir what's scenario one um such a huge percentage so um of all these pieces here why do you think scenario one had the biggest piece I think the obvious answer is the distribution of students and the fact that with that distribution you are not overwhelming the existing school and

not underwhelming the new school I think I have a comment I just like to say um I'm as a parent I'm very appreciative that you guys held all these meetings and notifications and the possibility of doing a survey to parents I'm a little saddened that only 200 and something parents or residents chimed in to be honest with you because we're

giving them the opportunity and I just hope when it comes to us making a decision we're going to make a decision at least I would be based on what the input from the community is and I hope they're supportive of that if they didn't participate and that's all I really want to say but I do appreciate our district taking the time and

alongside with you guys and our teachers and and our staff dedicated to getting the community's input before presenting it to us to make a decision because it's very important for us to make a decision based on our community needs and wants so thank you for this you're very welcome thank you for allowing us to be part of this important process

is there any more comments or questions concerns seeing that there's none thank you so much for your time thank you Mr satura okay moving on to our only action item which I am really excited about this item it's 2a1 it's the 2023-2024 student member of Board of Education it's recommended that the Board of Education approved Chloe Cabelas

cabeldus from Ayala High School as the 2023-2024 student board member on the board of education and administer the oath of office board members I'd like to share a little bit about Miss Chloe cabeldus before she gets sworn in Chloe is a lifetime resident of Chino Hills she is currently a junior at Ayala High School she serves as the current

USB executive board president and she also serves as a student representative on Ayala School site Council additionally she served as the United Club Council chairperson in which she helped facilitate and oversee over a hundred clubs on her campus her leadership experiences she says have shaped her fondness for helping others and she plans going into Political Science field in college to further her

passion Chloe is also an avid member of many service clubs on campus such as Leo Club National Honors Society Together We rise and More in our free time Chloe Chloe plays soccer and has been team captain for two years she also has played soccer for the city of Chino Hills on a competitive level for many years Chloe says that her goal in life

is always has always been to step up and speak out for those in the community that feel marginalized and for now so we can vote on it next okay and for now the official vote and after the swearing-in may I have a motion and a second the second any comments questions discussion discussions seeing that there's none uh we'll take a

questions from the board okay we're on to Communications Mr Bridge thank you president Shaw pull up my notes Here first of all I'd uh I'd like to congratulate my own on her service to the board and student member I believe this is your last last meeting we have one one more well I'm a little early but congratulations anyway we

appreciate your service this year I want to congratulate all of our students recognize and honored tonight that's a tremendous uh accomplishment and what we were reading in the description it's just uh terrific and I think it shows uh the the students that we have in in our district as well as the staff and and teachers that help them get to their to

their goals um first of all today is May 4th and I know everybody usually talks about Happy Star Wars Day so I'd have to mention that too I'm also old enough to remember going to the first movie in 1977 uh when it was out I knew nothing about it my brother was at Cal Poly and some of his friends

from college and I was in my second year of teaching he says we're going to go see this movie and we went down to Orange to that remember the dorm theater that was by the stadium baseball stadium and the lineup around it and it was very fascinating and I can't believe it's been that long since it's been out

uh the end of the school year is always an exciting time from graduations College decision day which took place earlier this week our upcoming military salute in two weeks at our next board meeting recognizing our seniors going into the military promotions and performances and just looking ahead to summer break so I was able to attend a few events

that I found just a terrific I really enjoyed them and wanted to mention them first I attended the West End selpa annual art and writing showcase at Chaffee High School wonderful performances in several of our Chino Valley students were recognized for their achievements um last week I attended the district orchestra concert at Woodcrest Junior High where they had beginning and

advanced strings plus Canyon Hills junior high strings and concluding with the string and chamber orchestra from Ayala High School just fantastic terrific performances and also congratulations to Ayala High School whose Orchestra will be at Carnegie Hall next year performing I thought that was just wonderful wonderful to hear and my wife and I are going to a couple plays next week in in

Hollywood at the Pantages and at Dolby and when you hear those orchestras in the um in the orchestra pit I would not be surprised in that if some of the students I saw last week might be in in one of those orchestras they just did a terrific job uh last night I attended the first of the four District Band performances and this

was at Chino Hills High with some of the schools in that area elementary Townsend Chino Hills bands terrific performances again there are three more band showcases coming up on May 8th May 10th and May 17th they're from six o'clock to 7 30 so it's not too late I'm not quite sure the schools I believe May 8th is Don Lugo

I'm going doing this from memory which is always a dangerous thing uh May 10th I believe is at Chino high and then May 17th is back at Chino Hills High School since Ayala is doing a modernization work I wanted to congratulate Dr Stacy Ayers and all the music teachers for their terrific work uh you could see from

the work that they've put in this year to uh to have those performances the these last uh last two weeks really has paid off and uh it's it's also easy to see why are schools music programs do so well in various Regional and National performances also and I'm sure Mrs Shaw will bring this up during her remarks so I won't

say much but I just was pleased to attend the uh the cattle um teacher recognition appreciation rally the other day where they uh surprised Miss hippen with uh with a special award and like I said I'll let I'm sure Mrs Shaw is going to mention that as well so I'll let her do that and then lastly so

not to take up too much time congratulations and good luck to all of our sports teams that are playing in the CIF playoffs this week especially your team Mr Monroe uh that concludes my remarks thank you thank you Mr bridge and we have Mr Cruz you know Mr bridge I remember I was nine years old when I went to see

Star Wars at the orange with the domes and that was my first movie I could remember so that was really exciting it was very cool that was that definitely was um you know I intended the The Adams Family play at Don Lugo and that was the most beautiful play it was the first time for many many years it

was so beautiful and um we should give kudos to them maybe bring them next week because it was fantastic it was so fantastic um also um we attended special ed dance and that's that's pretty great for for our children you know the exposure dance at the equestrian and then there was a drumline that um Chino Hills had and obviously

the music is always amazing what these kids can can do it just is phenomenal and they're also they're also I attended the Chino High School um Dr Enfield was there and you were there as well as the Drumline A special events too so that was great and the Ayala track that was cool because um Mr Schiller from Buena Vista the

principal his son won twice in the hurdles and he's going to go to the CIF so that that is great and you know they were concerned about two things and it is it is sort of concerning that was one is the audio the audio during the track and field was cutting off off and on Dr Enfield and maybe they should you know

try to work that out where it's synchronized and you don't have all that intermittance up off and on off and on and also the um the snack bar um there was there were complaining about electricity I don't know exactly what what they meant by that but they were concerned about the electricity of the snack bar and um the Let It Be Foundation is going

to have a 5k this Saturday I believe on May 7th so that that's a good thing that's rest awareness and um we also attended the Christian release time event which was really good and um the book that I've chosen is a book that's really popular at the high school level and also middle school and that is Judy Bloom

very popular and this one here they're gonna make a movie out of this one so um this one will go to Ramona Ramona middle school so this one is Margaret Simon likes long hair tuna fish the smell of rain things that are pink she just moved from New York City to the suburbs and is anxious to fit in with

her new friends they swear they tell each other everything from first bras first kisses first periods everything but some things are just too private to talk about even with your friends especially when the new girl lucky for Margaret she got someone else to confide in someone who always listens so this is for Ramona that's about it thank you thank you Mr

Cruz we have Mr Monroe thank you so I I do want to let uh council member Burton know I still have to pay full price I'm not yet 55. close but not quite um I do want to congratulate all the students we recognize today on their tremendous accomplish accomplishments they're just a fraction of the uh brilliant talented kids that we have in

our district um Frederick Douglass once said Accord most Merit to those that have Labor hardest and overcome most in pursuit of knowledge and I think nobody demonstrates that better than the kids that we recognize tonight so congratulations to them um I do want to congratulate Miss hippen as well that was a great event I'll spoil it helpful Honda people do exist

and uh they were out at cattle so what a great event to see her surprised and recognized in that manner so um I want to thank Mr bridge for pulling those items and going through and recognizing specifically our teachers and classified in nurses they deserve all the recognition that they get and oftentimes it's small not enough and when we take that opportunity it's

not it's nice to single it out so thank you Mr bridge for doing that and making sure that our teachers classified staff and nurses have our uh appreciation and support so um I do want to congratulate uh Mr Cruz talked about Chino Hills Drumline their percussions they compete in Ohio you know we talk about music has been on

the Forefront here for a little bit and we I think we're spoiled we we really have four high schools even our Junior highs that have incredible music departments Ayala and Chino Hills actually competed nationally in Ohio and and Ayala took number one in Chino Hills number two um I talking to a couple of people that attended it is uh

it's a I think a point of Pride um for these programs that uh those that go with the kids they really they said our children will walk around like rock stars when the other music programs here that they're from Ayala or Chino high from from Chino Valley Unified they're like rock stars because every year they perform and they win and they

finish and they place in the top three it's incredible so congratulations to them um lastly happy Cinco de Mayo coming up tomorrow obviously celebrate and have fun enjoy it I do want to I wish a Happy Mother's Day coming up next week for all you mothers out there um what an important role you have in being active and raising your kids so I

do want to send an appreciation to uh specifically I will thank my mom in advance and my wife for the wonderful job they did on their kids and the love and support they give them so thank you awesome thank you Mr Monroe and superintendent Dr anfield congratulations are coming up here in a few weeks and our seniors will be able

to walk across that stage and graduate and I'm excited for that but that doesn't happen uh on its own and I want to again thank all of our teachers for the work that they do to make sure that that happens from preschool all the way through 12th grade all of our teachers the work that they do to help get them

through there and get them to graduate also our nurses the work that they do to take care of our kids and all the health needs that we have across the district I want to thank them and then lastly our classified group again if it wasn't for the classified group they're the ones who take care of everything behind the

scenes they're Manning our schools they're getting our kids to Schools they're feeding our kids they're running the technology that our kids use they do everything to help support our kids and that goal as a unified school district is to get our kids to graduate and so that's a exciting moment coming up here in our district and then with that I'll

leave my comments on the ring dingers and the toe sheets to you Mrs okay here we go I have a lot for you guys that was some toshia comments but anyways um on the 21st I was able to attend City liaison meeting with our mayor Eunice Mrs Eunice ulowa and our city manager Miss Linda and our councilman Mr Burton and um with

Mr Cruz and Dr Enfield and I just want to say I appreciate that meeting and I look forward to the next meetings because truly together working together for our students is what it's all about and I just want to thank you for your time for even coming to these meetings it means a lot it means that you guys

are involved and also for you Mr Bennett I see you back there and I see you guys at every meeting and that is really extremely important that we're all linked together for the betterment of our community so thank you um it was a busy two weeks we had the aiella prom for special ed which was absolutely amazing and I want to thank

our staff for just taking their time and putting their love and dedication for all students those events mean a lot and just walking in there the energy was just it was beautiful um so I'm very grateful for for everybody who has participated and also for our students that volunteered for that event every any time I've attended event and I see students it just means

that much more those students are involved and they're taking their own time which we know high school students usually don't have very much time and they're making that a priority and that's amazing I also want to congratulate our Ayala High School and Chino Hills drum line they did take gold and silver and I love when parents reach

out to us on those things it's always great to involve the board invite the board get us to you know be aware of what's going on in our students accomplishments there is so many and to be able to be part of that is something that I truly value you so I want to pre I want to thank the parents that did

inform me of that and congratulations to those students and those parents that takes a lot of dedication love time money so and thank you to our what do they call them instructors I don't know what they call drum line and the ones that are in charge that um I know in in sports it's coaches excuse my not knowing that but yes thank you to

all of our staff that is involved in that um Washington DC May and Mr Monroe attended five days with other board members across California and yes that was a Toshi event for many reasons it brought light it brought Unity it also brought awareness and I'll get to that towards the end of um what of my comments but I'll go back to that

in a second Ayala track meet I want to thank the parent that invited us out to that me and Mr Cruz were able to attend that and we were able to meet the coaches which was awesome we were big I mean it me and Mr Cruz had commitments with our own families after and we couldn't even get

ourselves to leave because we wanted to keep watching the next race and we pretty much almost watched I think every race so thank you for inviting us to that we're very proud of our students and also thankful for the commitment of the parents and the coaches as well we attended the Christian time release banquet and that was pretty awesome just

to see all the love that is put into programs that are our districts involved in I appreciate everybody who takes their time those are volunteers a beautiful event for beautiful people um and and I was grateful to be able to be there with Dr anfield and a few of our board members um site visits thank you to Rhodes

cattle and Magnolia for allowing us to visit your sites and I'm excited because our my goal was to personally visit every site all 34 schools before the end of the school year and Dr anfield and I set that goal and Pat set the appointments with the admin and and we were able to get that done which was

really truly something that I appreciate and I appreciate the staff for taking the time I appreciate the teachers for opening their classrooms it really helps for us board members to see firsthand the differences in our schools also the dedication and just highlight exactly what makes them special and I appreciate those and I look forward to next year on

doing more in-depth visits the helpful Honda reveal yes they are real people that come and surprise people and do special things for them they were they they were able to surprise miss hippins the students were absolutely amazing to watch their excitement um and also miss hippens it was really cool because when I posted about it it she has been a teacher in our district

for many many many many many many years she's also was my brother's best friend's teacher back at Los Serranos where I attended Elementary she's just been around you could tell that her heart is in it for her students and I mean she was absolutely deserving of all those things and and the crazy thing is all those things are things

that is for her classroom and and just to see the appreciativeness of her being able to have those items for her classroom was pretty cool she had implemented some things to give the students responsibilities and jobs back when she was at Los Serranos and to see her still incorporate it into a time and to make it time relevant was pretty

awesome to hear about so we appreciate you miss hippens it it was definitely well deserved and I was so excited to be there I wouldn't have missed it for the world um I got to attend the city council meeting for Chino where our Chino high school wrestling coach and wrestlers were there and it's just always cool to

see our cities recognize our students and be involved I was also at the um um the ribbon cutting for the neighborhood house and I don't know if you guys have ever volunteered at the neighborhood house they're always accepting volunteers they do a tremendous job at reaching out to those and needed the community in our community and to see our students again

volunteer there through our Chambers program for our students was another amazing thing for us to see so I appreciate all all the love and dedication putting into that and it was kind of cool because I saw um our um our Mr Hagman did it actually give two large donations that night and just to see the excitement on the volunteers

faces to know that they just had more money to do something special for somebody it was it was pretty neat I want to thank I want to First congratulate Mr Rieger for his award um and then also thank our bus drivers our admin our secretaries our teachers all of our students never ever give up before I get into something else I have

a special gift from some of our board members to what our very own secretary who dedicates and makes our life as board members so easy and if you ever I don't know it's just so cool to go across the Nation to uh or yeah to the United States to um another Washington DC and get with other board members and be able to brag

about our secretary and then them say what your secretary does that that's not fair and I'm like yeah well you can't have her but we are definitely appreciative of her this is just a small token from us so we just want to thank you Pat [Applause] and as a as we were in DC I don't know if many of you know why Cruz is so in

love with book reading he's also a librarian um so I mean it does tie into what his heart is in it and we John and I got to attend the um the say it for me Congress the Library of Congress we got to attend the library at Congress and we just thought of you and we got you a small gift

um before I get into something else Maya had asked for one more comment I'm going to give her some of my time to quickly say that sorry I just had one more thing to um add to I didn't add it on my um my comments earlier I just want to say a thank you to our community students

everyone who donated blood on our blood drive on April 25th uh it was dedicated to um my classmate Melissa I was suffering from leukemia right now um we had our appointment slots from 10 a.m to 6 p.m fully filled for the whole day we even had to add more on because people were asking us um like hey can I still donate can I

still donate we're taking walk-ins all that kind of stuff and I just want to um since it was open to the community I just want to say thank you to everyone who did donate I'm not sure exactly how many donations we got exactly um and how much money we made I'll make sure to stay at the next meeting but again I

just want to thank everyone who donated it and everyone who supported if you cannot donate yeah thank you very much first thank you Miss King okay so I'm excited to work alongside some pretty amazing board members um I see the dedication I see the love I see the hard work I see the love and dedication of our staff of our teachers

of our parents um but I also think with all the greatness we need to be aware of what's going on and I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer but there is some really crazy things that not only John and I saw in DC and we're told by congressmen and this that and the other it would scare The Living Daylights out of a lot

of appearance so I'm just going to be transparent it was it was some very eye-opening things to things that we kind of already knew but to hear that coming out was just it just gave us more awareness that we need to take action and I was voted in to take action so um I don't know if you guys are following

the bills for the last three years I was like most parents I was not involved in those I never got involved I was volunteering in the classrooms everything from room mom art mom to PE mom you name it I didn't even know what a board meeting was that's transparency I did not I didn't get involved until it

affected right into our household and it opened up my eyes that what Sacramento and lawmakers that don't even have children are doing we have AB 1078 and thank God for parents and just everyone standing up that a lot of these laws this year are being amended tremendously and heavily because people are fighting and standing up against the nonsense

that's coming from Sacramento but I will say this 1078 was presented to prevent local school board control of books and curriculum in public schools again taking away local control where we are supposed to have some control to serve our community you have ab665 that allows mental health professionals to remove a child from a home without parental permission

thank God they're starting to amend that one AB 659 requiring that children get the HPV vaccine in order to attend public schools that's a sexually transmitted disease I mean you're gonna require that to go to school is out of my mind boggling with me being someone who loves to have my children in public education these are very

important for us to be aware of because these are just right now within the within the last what five months these are proposed bills that doesn't mean that there's not going to be any more like I said these politicians are making bills and if you go look some of them don't even have most of them don't even

have children so I don't even know it's just mind-boggling well with these few bills that are coming from lawmakers in the past few months into the school year if you check last year there's also quite a few more disgusting bills that were proposed and even some that passed when are we going to actually stand up and push back and take control of our

schools and children's education Sacramento has crossed the line far too many times after a trip to Washington DC and seeing in the insane proposed and past bills in Sacramento over the past few years in line with speaking to lawmakers it's evident that Sacramento is working towards placing more laws that restrict parental involvement with that I'm working towards a policy that

restores parental rights and involvement where they should be I truly believe that here in Chino Valley that the Board of Education should strive to Foster trust between the district and parents and guardians of its students to that end the board should support the fundamental rights of parents and Guardians to direct the care and upbringing of their very own children

including the right to be informed and involved in all aspects of their children's education to promote the best outcomes with that I will be working with Dr Enfield on the best timing for my proposed policy and I will allow time for our community to show up if if I can make any decisions in regards to that but it's coming soon and I won't stand

for the nonsense and as promised I will do all I can to help restore what they continue to try to tear down to me this is important because all this greatness that everybody is working hard for is amazing but if we don't start doing something that makes them stop what they're doing towards taking away rights and taking away parents out of the

equation all the success these students wouldn't be there if we didn't have staff and parents working together and we need to stop what they're doing in order to continue to make sure our students have the best success so I will be putting towards that policy as soon as I can I will be working with Dr Enfield um that way there's no surprises and I'm

excited to bring it forward to you guys and share it to you as soon as it's ready with that that concludes my comments I will now adjourn the
