oh that's her I didn't know I call to order the regular meeting of the Board of Education Thursday November 16th 2023 at 6 p.m. with Bridge Cruz Monroe naw and Shaw present before we begin please silence all electronic devices and note that these proceedings are being recorded Pat the board met in close session from 4:30 to 5:41 p.m. regarding

conference with legal counsel existing litigation two cases student Discipline matters Public Employee appointment coordinator expanded learning and support programs coordinator security boys republic Adult School principal Elementary principal and conference with labor negotiators act and CSA the board appointed Lori Jenkins as coordinator of expanded learning and support programs effective date November 20th 2023 by a unanimous vote of 5-0

with Bridge crw Monroe non Shaw voting yes appointed Heather post as principal at boys republic Adult School effective date to be determined by a unanimous vote of 5-0 with Bridge crewman Ro not and sha voting yes and appointed Patricia AA Jeter as principal at Oakridge Elementary School effective date to be determined by a unanimous vot of 0 with Bridge Cru Monro

non Shaw voting yes and additionally for the record St student discipline cases 23 24-30 23 24-31 and 23 24-32 were deleted from the agenda no further action was taken which requires public disclosure thank you Pat and um I would like to congratulate everybody on their new positions and if you would like we would love to hear something

from you if you'd want to Dr Enfield wants to put you on the spot by the way it wasn't me but you're more than welcome to take the podium and just we want to congratulate you and just hear a couple words if you have any he poster you want to come up first she's like halfway out of her

seat I wasn't going to call one of you president Shaw board members uh Dr infield in cabinet and Community uh thank you so much for this opportunity and I look forward to serving you as the new principal of boy Republic and Chino Valley Adult School thank you so much thank you so much and the new principal of oakrid

Patricia via Jeter good evening uh president Shaw board members Dr Enfield and community members I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the trust and confidence you have placed in Me by selecting me as the new principal for Oakridge Elementary I'm honored to embark on this journey of leadership within the Chino Valley Unified School District I am eager to contribute to the

continued success of our educational Community I would like to share specifically now with the Oakridge Community students parents and staff I promise that as your principal I will practice positivity I will act responsibly work and play safely and show respect once again thank thank you for this incredible privilege to serve the Chino Valley Unified School District Community I am super excited to begin

this next chapter and contribute to the ongoing success at oakd elementary go Bobcat thank [Applause] you thank you so much okay we're now on to the Pledge of Allegiance and we have a very special guest guest um one of our students from Levi dicki Joseph would you please lead us in the [Applause] pledge please stand put your right hand over your

heart ready begin i al to the flag of the United States of America and to the rep for it stands one nation God indivisible with liy and justice for all thank you when I get the a now we're on to one of my favorite parts of our board meetings and it's recognizing our amazing students and staff tonight's special guests are um we

have two students that we gave one out to but one's present and um they're from Levi dicki and we also have a staff member from Chino high school with our amazing uh music program director Mr Doug Bowen I'll start off with um our students from Levi dicki starting off with the recognitions can Joseph ham and I know cam is I think she's absent um

from tonight can you please join me at the okay I had the pleasure of meeting Joseph and camell during a site visit in October to say I was impressed with their leadership and articulateness is an understatement their present and ability to connect with everyone was amazing and they left me literally spe they were so well spoken and confident

it was amazing so here's a little bit about both both of them Joseph is a sixth grader he thinks Levi dicki is an amazing school and says that school's atmosphere is great as soon as you walk in you feel welcomed and comfortable all the teachers and staff are very helpful and kind fellow classmates are very encouraging and pleasant to be around

and then we also have kemy she's not able to be here tonight I don't see her um she's a second grader and you would think that she probably was 21 with her leadership skills she was very impressive as well and I'm sure you can to attest to that um when she arrives at at school in the morning the first thing

she does every day is eat breakfast with her friends she thinks the food is pretty good and it's a fun way to start her day and be ready to learn her teacher is Miss Richie and she helps um camell learn a lot of different things Cam's favorite part of school is when they read and get to hear different

types of stories reesus is also fun time to play with friends she's very outgoing right she likes all the kids that go to her school all the teachers and all the grown-ups who are there um if you would like and I want to put you on the spot more than welcome to say something about your school or you good you had a lot to say that

day huh well I just want to say we are very proud of you we're excited because I know you know you'll be going into junior high soon and we're excited for your leadership there as well we were all very impressed um you had all of us board members leaving saying that we need to bring those um students in so

keep up the great work and we wanted to present you with this certificate thank you very much yes thank you yeah Joseph yeah you you were fantastic Joseph but what's your favorite sport basketball oh yeah but here here Joseph I'm G to give this because you you did really well as as a leader so here's here's a diary of would be kid and and

the certificate I also have oh she's actually this is also for your partner too yeah that's but you did really good it was really awesome good job good job three and you guys may leave at this point you do not have to stay if you don't want to [Applause] you okay next another um actually this is uh very impressive what uh he does I

would like to invite Mr Bowen to the podium so one so one word that expresses what I feel when I asked about the Chino High School music program as well if you have ever had a chance to watch a music program performance you will know exactly what I'm talking about and I encourage all of you to um watch one or

attend um even one of their football games because they're there as well Mr Bowen has led the Chino high school music program for many years and every year without fail his students impress thousands upon thousands of audiences wherever they go Mr um Bowen can you please share a little bit about your passion for the program because it

definitely shows and how you motivate your students to excel well it's just it's pick it up it's a pleasure to be here it's really I I actually came from the practice field I left my students there we're we're getting ready for championships this weekend so we knew I was coming here we worked around that so uh the kids really

work hard for me I've been very blessed to have um many students throughout the years I even have students who have worked to come back and work with us and be a part of our group and it's just uh just really need to keep music we actually what we try to teach at Chino music is excellence and they can do that

everything they do so if they learn excellence and music they could do it and anything else they want to do is what we work for yeah yeah well thank you for all that you do it shows when we walk into your room it's it's a gift and um I just want to thank you for everything that you do for oh thank you

my pleasure I know it's a small thing but here's a token from the board just showing more okay you may leave I know you guys got a lot of practice to do when you say excellence in culture it's actually you you're the one that's right oh well they're going to let people in right this way this is 3c1

okay and I'm just going to say I have a pole next are we ready we got to start next up is the staff report Dr Park president Shaw members of the board superintendent Enfield cabinet and Community our report to the board this evening is on positive behavioral interventions and supports also known as PBIS cbis is one part within the

district's lcap goal two to support our students connectedness and engagement to school by setting clear social and behavioral expectations and directly teaching these expectations to our students it is our goal to create a positive learning environment for all of our students in our framework for PBIS because there is a systematic way to teach schoolwide expectations staff and students have a

shared understanding of expected Behavior which ultimately creates a thriving teaching and learning environment to establish schoolwide expectations school teams work together to identify appropriate behavior with clear examples emphasizing key values of being respectful being responsible and being safe in different settings across the school school this is an example of the expectations that a school PBIS team would establish for such settings as the

classroom lunch area restroom or even the hallway key to success in creating a positive learning environment is understanding and ensuring a shared understanding of the expectations at school you can see on this slide examples from cattle Walnut Lidle Cal arrow and aala high school with schoolwide expectations that are displayed in prominent places throughout the school so all students and staff

know what respectful looks like in all settings to guide districtwide PBIS implementation and our continuous cycle of improvement we have a district leadership team and school level teams that work hand inand the district leadership team made up of our superintendent district and school administrators Miss Walker our act president is needed to lead the assessment and planning process to

support our schools the goal of the team is to increase capacity in three areas to support PBIS implementation at our schools training capacity refers to our ability to self assess staff development needs coaching capacity refers to our ability to organize staff and resources to assist with school Level Training implementation evaluation capacity refers to our ability to establish

measurable outcomes evaluate our progress and modify our plans to adjust to our evaluations the school teams play an equally important role in advancing and informing the evaluation training and coaching recommendations to the district leadership team sang morar Our coordinator of mtssb a lead in our PBIS work will give us greater insight into the role of our school

teams every site has a PBIS school team while the team composition may vary here is a sample representation of who would be on a team the school team has an important role in shaping the school culture and climate they we support all School staff to implement schoolwide expectations analyze the effect of schoolwide expectations and determine areas of need to promote positive School

culture and climate another important role they play is coordinating school and community activities to enhance understanding of PBIS to support School sites with PBIS implementation during the 2223 school year the MTS is B Team comprised of District staff and intervention counselors completed the following 27 District trainings 104 parent informational nights regarding PBIS 76 external tiered Fidelity inventory School site walkthroughs also

known as tfis which allow the team to measure Fidelity across PBIS implementation 66 site support meetings during which time site administrators and the mtssb coordinator meet to collaborate on data pertaining to PBIS implementation for the 2324 school year we have plans for 30 District trainings about 110 informational meetings with 46 held thus far 99 external TFI School site

walkthroughs and 66 support meetings at the school site there are seven criteria points that the state looks at to determine whether a school achieves platinum gold silver and bronze recognition first is the TFI score the other criteria include the current school year climate culture data such as the K12 Insight survey attendance data and office referrals counseling supports action

plan documentation interventions for students evidence of academic impact and classroom walkthroughs for monitoring evidence of posted classroom expectations and routines that support positive behavior we want to congratulate all of our PBIS recognize schools for their outstanding accomplishments 10 Platinum awardees 20 two gold and one silver with every CVUSD school being recognized Chino Valley is never short of rising to the top our schools and

students Thrive because of our community's investment into our Schools staff that is committed Beyond Excellence are outstanding students who show up to our schools that we have the privilege to serve and our board's commitment to promoting a safe and thriving learning environment for our students with PBIS implementation out of 939 school districts 345 unified school districts and more than 10,000 schools

in California Chino Valley is number one in the state with all schools in a unified school district earning PBIS recognition number nine in the state of all unified school districts for the most Platinum which is the highest level recognized schools number two in the state of all unified school districts for the most gold recognized schools and number one in the county for the most

platinum and gold recognized schools before we before we conclude our report to the board I want to highlight the incredible recognition Chino Valley received at the county PBIS recognition last week not only did Chino Valley sweep the number of Awards as you can see with staff participation at the award ceremony three of our schools Eagle Canyon Cal Aro preserve Academy K8

and Ruben aala High School showcased their PBIS implementation strategies and successes we are definitely CVUSD proud and this concludes our board report tonight on PBIS awesome thank questions Mr n yeah I think this was a great report done um I do remember a teacher who had passed away but um he had told many years to hist students at

Chino Hills High School where he said be good to yourself and be good to others I think it had resonated uh to many of our students in our Chino Valley Unified School District and it goes not only for the students but as an adults too when we're good to ourselves and be good to our fellow citizens we can prosper as a as a group

and as a school district so thank you for our staffs for doing a wonderful presentation and all the teachers for collaboration and bringing up and restoring the value uh of a respect and love for our school district thank you you yes thank you guys wait okay when did you start um implementing PBIS 2015 yeah and and just like Abbot it's

such a successful program being number one being number one number number nine number two it just tells you that this is so effective so good job for the whole team to go forward with this it's good thank you thank you thank [Applause] you we're now to comments from our student representative Chloe good evening board president Shaw members of the board superintendent

Enfield and distinguished guests aella High School boys water polo and the are the CIF Champions After winning their game last Saturday and are boys and girls cross country have qualified for CIF AA basketball is beginning their preseason tournament so be sure to visit their Instagram page for more information regarding upcoming events games I would like to also congratulate

Mr Collins from myala for his outstanding achievement being one of 10 Claus Noble educator of the Year finalists and for um IA counselor Mr Bell for receiving the Golden Bell award AA band is proud to announce that they have been recognized as the 2023 bands of America Southern California Regional Champions and they will be headed to State finals this

Saturday Chino High School is proud to announce that that every fall sport at their school made it to CIF and they have a fall recognition rally tomorrow Don lugo's girls volleyball team and cross country team have advanced to CIF Chino Hills High School is looking forward to their recognition rally tomorrow and are celebrating their cross country and golf teams for winning CIF

league in regards to proposed to the proposed revision of board policy 616 3.1 I would like to reiterate my stance regarding the proposition of banning or otherwise eliminating access to books within our district I would like to preface this with the acknowledgement that of course there should be a system in place to ensure that our students are

protected however this proposed revision is not going to protect students as it claims but will rather limit their access to sources of Education based off of the whims of anyone in the district this ambiguous the ambiguous term sexually obscene is far too vague to be left left in the revision as it leaves far too much space for interpretation

any person in this community has the ability to walk into a school library or into a teacher's classroom library and Report any book that they wish to be taken off the shelves according to the proposed revision books that are reported must be removed almost immediately so under these guidelines a completely innocent book may be taken off the shelves for over a month based

solely on random accusations further I have a few questions regarding the logistics of this revision how are the processes going to differ between books that are allowed for kindergarteners and those that are allowed for high school seniors naturally certain topics are not appropriate for 5-year-olds but they are perfectly suitable for near adults is the board going to sit down and read

every single book that is reported for being obscene in order to classify it as safe or not in order for a fair trial the book should be fully examined to make sure that things are not taken out of context again I understand that the board is trying to act in what they think are the best interests of us

students but this policy ends up doing far more harm than good I urge the board to take the opinions of students in this District seriously as it is our education being impacted we must make sure that education and the pursuit of knowledge is upheld and supported and supported history is always watching thank you thank you Chloe we're now up to comments from

employee Representatives Brenda Walker good evening board members and superintendent nfield cabinet and Community I'm here on behalf of associated Chino teachers standing before you once again urging you not to adopt the proposed book Banning policy you've placed on the agenda tonight once again this board has proposed a short shortsighted and extreme policy in furtherance of its own political and

social agenda as act has advised you after consultation with our own attorneys the policy is unconstitutional and would be damaging to the education of Chino students we urge you to direct your attention away from these political agenda issues and focus instead on things that matter in this District things that will benefit students right now Act is at the

bargaining table negotiating in good faith for better support for special education students and for factors that will make Chino better able to attract and retain quality teachers rather than driving them away so far the district has been unresponsive to these needs we urg the district to negotiate in good faith in an effort to resolve these important issues I would remind you that our

previous warnings on the legality of your earlier policies have proven wrong have been proven right most recently with the San Bernardino Superior Court Judge who has agreed with the State Attorney General in a preliminary ruling that your forced outing policy violates the United States Constitution and all he has issued an injunction against the policy pending trial with this book band

policy it is almost certain you can look forward to similar legal challenges and a complete waste of Chino taxpayer funds and of District resources that could go instead to providing more books for students not taking them away as we pointed out in our letter to you the attempted removal of just one book from a school library in another District

took over 220 hours of district and legal time and cost that District $330,000 in resources that have could that could have gone to students instead aside from being unconstitutional and in addition to putting the district through more expensive and unnecessary litigation the policy itself is deeply flawed simply on a common sense level you will be making it possible for any Resident of Chino

Chino whether or not they are parents with students in the district or whether or not they have any ties to the district at all to have a book removed from a school library shelf then this board not Librarians not teachers not media Specialists will be the first and final Arbiters of the fate of that book are we to believe that if a random

resident submits a list of a 100 books that they want removed every member of this board will read all 100 of the books during the 45-day window required by the policy should anyone member of the community have that much power over every single student in the district and the policy has absolutely no Nuance if this board determines that

a book is inappropriate for Access by a kindergarten no student in the district including a high school senior will have access to that same book the proposed policy is a solution in search of a problem We Trust our media Specialists our teachers Librarians to determine books suitable for students at varying grade levels we also trust parents to be

involved in their own children's education and to be also involved in guidance around optional reading materials and opportunities but without becoming Arbiters of what everybody else's child can read act urges the board to reverse course and an abandon abandon the proposed policy revisions we are disheartened that board members continue to politicize our classrooms and libraries when you should be

supporting learning and respecting the trained professionals who work hard every day to ensure that students have Rich and age appropriate books and materials the policy is wrong it's unlawful and finally I would remind you that book banners have never ended up on the right side of history thank [Applause] you thank you we're now to Dy Danny Hernandez from

CSEA good evening president Shaw board members superintendent Enfield cabinet community and staff staff I'm going to take a few minutes of personal privilege um there's an end of an era coming in our duplicating Repo Graphics are now printing graphics and mail services um in on August 1 of this year of 2023 Terry Morgan retired after 24 years of service I don't get a chance to

swing by there very often um but today I swung by there because Dante Sanchez I believe was retiring at at the end of December has 4 days left 22 years ago I started in CV USD in duplicating um they were the senior staff there they were they led me speaking of uh the band director we become involved in their family we his

Dante's daughter was a band member for uh Chino high school she loved it he loved it I would hear about it much more than I ever anticipated um same thing with Terry Morgan her kids went through CVUSD students prior to her um Miriam Castillo her husband her sons started in this District um I don't get a chance to go

over there very often um Dante's uh retirement uh party or luncheon was earlier this month and I didn't get a chance to swing by so I did want to just wish both of them um a very happy retirement and on to their next chapter um and when I say truly an end of an era the other person speaking to them today

they were contemplating and looking towards retirement um so it is truly an end of an era at least to myself over in duplicating um there's going to be a bunch of new staff there um and with that I wanted to wish everybody a very Happy Thanksgiving with with whatever you do family friends what is it Frank FR giving or something like like that um

please have a restful and Happy Thanksgiving thank you champ which thank you for spoiling Us by the way today awesome time you're very welcome thank you for visiting anabor good evening president Shaw school board members Dr Enfield cabinet and Chino Valley Community I'd first like to thank and or actually sorry not thank but celebrate with every single school and

Chino Valley Unified School District for our PBIS Awards I know firsthand how much work and dedication it takes to achieve an award by students staff and community and it really is a great honor that all schools in Chino Valley received Awards um research by John Hattie tells us that the most effective factor in increasing student learning is

collective teacher efficacy simply put it's teachers working together with teachers at Chino Valley we do this through the PLC process in which teachers ensure high levels of learning by working together and focusing on the essential skills we want our students to learn teachers are more efficient when working with colleagues rather than working independently in isolation this same research tells us

second to teachers School administrators are also very important we have the role of setting clear priorities and maintaining an unwavering focus on on supporting student learning similar to The Way teachers collaborate in plc's principles also work together to merge our strengths and learn from each other always with the goal of increasing student learning over the past two weeks principles expanded

this collaboration in what we call data chats data chats give us the opportunity to share our work and further learn from the experiences and expertise of our distri District level leaders it's a great feeling to be part of a team that is mutually dedicated and focused on our students we are continuously thankful for all the people we have the privilege

to work with on behalf of Chino Valley administrators and management Personnel I'd like to wish everyone a wonderful warm and Happy Thanksgiving thank you thank you okay we're now on um at comments from the audience on items not on the agenda Pat are there any requests to speak 14 thank you Pat board bylaw 9323 meeting conduct establishes public

Hurst good evening board members staff parents I'm Curtis Burton I'm city council member with the city of Chino uh there are many city of Chino sponsored activities taking place this month we invite Chino Valley students and their families to join us for these events this Sunday November 19th beginning at noon the Chino youth Boxing Club is hosting its annual gobbler gloves boxing

showcase at the Neighborhood Activity Center that's located over in the civic center right on the corner of 6 and D Street watch Chino's finest amateur boxers compete against the best boxing clubs in Orange Riverside San berardino and Los Angeles counties admission is free for five years and under um for ages 6 to 11 it's $5 $20 for 12 and

older we invite the community to the City Hall lawn for the annual tree lighting ceremony themed Santa's Workshop this magical event and evening will take place on December 2nd from 4:00 in the afternoon to 8:00 p.m. and the highlight of the evening will be the illumination of the city's Christmas tree at about 6 o' so if you've never

seen that I encourage you to come out and check that out it's really neat uh activities include photos with Santa Christmas carolers cookie decorating writing letters to Santa and CRA craft Corner also enjoy some tasty holiday treats from local vendors for more information go to the city's website thank you as we continue our festive Spirit we invite you to join us for a

cherished tradition returning on Saturday December 9th the Chino youth Christmas parade and fair will begin at 9:00 a.m. when the parade steps off at the corner of Riverside Drive in monisa and it will conclude on chino avenue the fund continues with the holiday fair and Carnival taking over the Civic Center offering carnival rides a craft fair live family entertainment an assortment

of food vendors and Santa's Village at the Chino youth Museum and as we approach the Thanksgiving holiday I extend my warmest wishes for a safe joyful and restful Thanksgiving to each one of you I'd also like to remind everyone that City Hall will be closed on Thursday and Friday allowing our dedicated city employees to enjoy quality time with their families

as we head into the bustling holiday shopping season I urge you to consider supporting our local businesses right here in Chino our our community thrives on the hard work of entrepreneurs and small business owners and your support directly contributes to the vibrancy the city has for their SU success and finally on behalf of the mayor and the

Francisco head thank you all right good evening board uh I want to thank you guys for standing strong and for not cowering to the government not cowering to the governor not cowering to uh AG Bala and just standing for righteousness for standing up for parents for your actual constituents for people that actually live here and that actually care about their children I uh

work with families in crisis pregnancies and I see uh young moms and young dads whose parents were not involved in their life and and where that leads them and to see um the teachers union come up here and shame you for that I mean are we in a t twilight zone it's crazy I mean if they don't want to involve the

parents it's just insane I think we have a heart issue I think that uh the most important thing that we come to these meetings but if there's people here today that don't know where they're going when they die I think that's imperative that's more important than all these meetings the most important thing is that if you know Jesus Christ

as your lord and [Music] savior guys please refrain from any comments in the audience and the way you do that the way you come to know him is when you lay your life down when you decide to actually repent from your sins to actually turn from the way that you're living to actually live a life that glorifies him that means your life looks

uh in like such a way that it would glorify him that in obedience and there's this there's this verse in Romans 10:9 it says that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead you will be saved for with the heart One Believes unto righteousness and with the mouth

confession is made unto salvation for the scripture says whoever believes on him will not be put to shame so I just want to share with you guys today if you don't know Jesus Christ as your lord and savior that hell is real and Heaven is real and the Bible says it appointed for man wants to die and then comes the

judgment and then it's too late I know of a 17-year-old that just died in a car accident there was a kid that died in this District not too long ago uh got hit hit by a car I think he was 12 years old and so no one knows the day or the hour but what does matter is if you have

come to know Jesus Christ as your lord and savior so I just want to share that with you guys I want to thank the board for not bowing the knee there's another in the fire with you there's another in the fire thank you guys God bless you thank you um Pat one second before we proceed can I just give a reminder to

the audience we need to um proceed with business I know emotions are high but we cannot allow um you know excess noise from the audience or burst out please please please you guys are all adults I don't want to babysit you I don't think I should have to and every meeting I almost have to so let's just behave and

respect each other thank you Christy Hurst followed by Jacob Costa followed by Oscar abula many of you have seen me here before speaking on behalf of students parents and teachers two meetings ago I submitted dozens of letters I've received to the board I hope you read them I submitted a signed declaration in the lawsuit against your forced outing

policy and with permission shared the story of a student who could not be identified the story I shared was also read before this board at a previous meeting and yet the Liberty Justice Center objected to my declaration in a 36-page court filing also on that objection was the ainson Anderson Lila Rudd and Romo law firm and they've been

listed on every other filing in this case a RR was even on tonight's agenda to give this board an update on the case in Clos session why because according to a partner at aalrr the Liberty Justice Center Associated into the case and a a lrr is still the attorney on record and according to a partner at the law firm a

the real cost is often hundreds if not thousands of dollars to really outfit a classroom why then do you require they pay $1,000 for family medical benefits this is particularly burdensome for new teachers most of whom are young women and mind you you do this while you salt away approximately $84 million in a so-called materials fund gee that might buy a few paper

clips me I am a husband a father and a teacher when I Fe a feed a hungry child you call me a saint when I buy a child who is Barefoot some tennis shoes out of my own pocket you call me a brother when I donate blood for a sick child with leukemia like Addie Connelly whom we

I'm not sure if it's already been addressed or presented but we've been locked out almost every other day if not every day here and there um I've been locked out for 15 minutes 20 minutes and in some situations I'm there till 5:30 some situations I'm there at 700 7:15 in the morning and I'm locked out of my

classroom as well as in the evening where I'm having parent conferences you know to work with the parent and a student and I'm there till 4:30 sometimes 5:00 and I run to the bathroom come back and I'm locked out where my keys are in my classroom my phone is in my classroom there's no one on campus and it's gotten to a point where I feel

a little unsafe because I don't know how I'm going to get home so I just want to say guys please if there's anything that you guys can do to help support I don't know whose responsibility it is to actually work on these keys but it's it's an ongoing thing um we're constantly teachers are locked out of their rooms and it happened today again

um so I am pleading that if you know anyone that can work on these Keys we really need to be in our classrooms when we have kids that come in to do assessments um we want to be able to get into the classroom for them to be able to make up those assessments because they've been absent right um and for

their progress as well and for us as well but more so also after school when we have left our classroom to go use the bathroom and come back and at that point we have no access back into our room because we've been locked out no phone with us because um it's in the classroom and no car keys to get me home as well

because it's in the classroom and I've waited at times maybe 15 20 minutes and a lot of times the campus is empty who do I go to and I have been in a position where I've kind of feared of how am I going to get home how am I going to get call my son or anyone to come get me out

of this situation but once again it's an ongoing thing and I don't like presenting however I I'm here for the safety of myself the safety of my department my the safety of our my co-workers everyone and I'm sure it's not just Chino Hills High School um because I believe these keys are something that we use throughout the

whole entire District um it is it felt like it got a little bit better and then boom once again I got locked out um so if there's anything that anyone can do I would appreciate it and then my second reason for being here is I have a lot of kids that are T to school every single morning first period and a lot of them

might be Busters that now we are up to a total of and I have this if you guys would like a copy of it I have2 tardies um as of the 12 week as of 11:15 I have 274 tardies 12 are bus tardies sorry the time's up but I would like to hear your concerns so if you can email me and then

library not in our class Library they're from a website that somebody puts out and says these are books that are out in the schools if my priest were to ask me or any of his parishioners to read sexual material in a school for the world to see I would leave our church Men read these passages without mentioning the library or title of the

shamp good evening board cabinet and community over the past several board meetings you've heard from African-American students and their families about the challenges they are facing in various CVUSD schools discrimination microaggressions and outright hate speech have been described in Chino our African-American students tend to be overidentified for special education underidentified for gate disproportionately suspended and expelled and have lower overall academic

achievement than other student groups this is not unique to Chino this is a problem that really does need a solution one way that every surrounding Unified School District is trying to involve families of African-American students is through a district committee called an African-American parent advisory Council or APAC the purpose of the APAC is to involve and engage parents

families students Educators and community members in the decision-making process to work collectively to improve the academic performance and success of African-American students this board is all about engaging parents so this should be right up your alley I would be more than happy to help connect the board with resources across the county that could facilitate the development of an APAC in our district I

member of towns and Junior High School site Council and we had our first meeting a few weeks ago I was reminded again of the Fantastic dedication leadership and foresight of the teachers and administrators in Chino Valley Unified we talk through our site goals the budget professional development activities and how to support our English language Learners over 30% of

students we talk through performance indicators targets for the school year and how to Benchmark students progress to ensure we can hit those targets by the end of the school year when we speak of good governance thoughtful leadership and strategic thinking the site Council meetings are one place where that work is being done unfortunately this board has created a disconnect and adversarial

relationship with our school sites and have cultivated a mischaracterization of the people who have dedicated their careers to providing positive learning environments for Children and Youth in Chino Valle r i urge you to stop these accusations and attacks on our staff members good governance and Leadership of a school district is not picking and choosing whatever politically motivated

policy you come across it's humbly learning from the subject matter experts that no more than you and have been doing this work much longer than you who are these people they are the 1400 teachers and counselors of Chino Valley who have who we have hired and entrusted traveling from classroom to classroom to classroom is just ineffective without

actually sitting down with our Educators for honest and transparent dialogue about how this board has made things harder not easier our open teaching Physicians according to the edjin website has grown to 18 your failing 18 classrooms full of students and you're unable to create a district environment that attracts top talent who wants to be a teacher here

when you've enforce Banning Flags obsess over political fights Force Educators to focus on the sex and gender of their students and now want to be given ultimate power to ban books we are all pleading you with you to stop these costly policies we can't keep paying for your politics instead focus on these urgent need to improve the state of our

facilities increasing the number of nursing positions supporting our English language learning Youth and families improving special education for our District's most vulnerable youth contrary to what these extremists would have us believe that vast majority of us are not so divided on what we want you our board members to focus on we don't want or need more activist

district of legal representation in the lawsuit over the forced outing policy against transgender students because the district's contract with Liberty Justice Center was not posted on the district's website as it should be I filed a public records request to see for myself I'm not sure if you have read the language of this section quote in the event the

opposing party is the prevailing party in the litigation the opposing party may be awarded damages their attorney fees and costs for bringing this litigation Liberty Justice Center and any other co-counsel will not be liable to client or the opposing party for any such Award of Damages attorney fees or costs unquote this is exactly what happened when the district was sued because Mr Na

and Mr crw wouldn't stop prizz from the Das the district had pro bono representation then too but when it lost the judge ordered the district to pay the opposing party's legal fees and guess what that firm also wasn't going to cover it and although calary Calvary Chapel Chino Hills promised to pay Jack hibs reneged on that offer and it wound

up costing taxpayers about $300,000 dollars that should have been spent in classrooms this time those legal costs are liable to be far greater and given the two hearings the district has already lost it's not looking good this community deserves to know that our district could be out hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars if and when we lose this case the agreement

with Liberty Justice Center says so in black and white so you can quit trying to Gaslight us and this is on top of the astronomical legal fees of almost $200,000 in the first two months of this school year paid to the district's other law firms I realize that the board majority doesn't care about the potential potential Financial ruin they

may be imposing on this District because they won't have to personally pay a dime for their irresponsible decision to pass a discriminatory policy they knew would result in a lawsuit I guess getting your names in right-wing media is well worth it on a brighter note many of us were encouraged last week to see how voters tossed out so many school boards like

been applied and I'm curious to see what was the outcome of those actions but let's delve into the proposed changes specifically on board policy 61631 regarding library media centers it's scary because if you read this any allegation of sexually obscene content even if unsubstantiated no matter how nonsensical any allegation would require the principal to remove it within 3 days

and then start a process that would leave that have that book removed for 45 to 50 days and then leave the ultimate decision to the board I mean this is ludicrous on its face I mean guys I I got to ask you what were you thinking I mean I'm not directing to all the board I'm more focus on the west side of the

read some of the content and I'm embarrassed to say those words right here let let our kids be kids and don't expose them to nasty and adult sexualized stuff Sacramento has let us down I want to thank you guys for everything you guys have done for us so please and thank you thank you guys Lisa Pascal followed by George the

complaints regarding concerning instructional material I suggest that all the people who just attack the board with this uh uh book band should read this policy I read the policy thoroughly and I believe this policy is very transparent reasonable and well considered it's a fair it has a due process provided to uh the people involved to solve the issues

morning to send her son to this school special school every morning 4:30 in the morning why cuz she thought that was a best education environment for her son that she could provide for at minimum what we could do as an adult is to make sure that we don't have trash laying around in our school system for our children's sake because they

need to concentrate and learn about what is important that matters for their future education um for their college Years and their career goals it's nothing to do with teaching them about trash so now somebody said what if there's no pornography and this is all madeup story so then that's great then no one has to worry about it so I

strongly support this policy this is just common sense policy where not only our school district should uh should have done it as I have mentioned that I was embarrassed to hear the concern from our parents but this should be done throughout the California and raise our ranks in education this is our children the future that we're talking about future of

our our citizens that's our youth we need to protect them and we have a responsibility in providing a good positive learning environment thank you thank you Mr n Mr [Applause] Monroe um after a lot being said tonight I'm encouraged that everybody agreed that the readings that happened last week were disgusting and should not have been read finally we find some common

ground what I will say like I said last week is I don't know what we're trying to fix with this policy we have a policy in place now that allows for the books to be reviewed I have seen no information saying that this policy is not working and that has even been tried by anybody that's complaining about these

books one of the things I ask is what is our duties as a school board are we supposed to to make policy or are we supposed to enforce them I believe school boards are supposed to make policy and direct those the superintendent and cabinet in the enforcement of those policies we as a board have not given clear direction to this

cabinet and to enforce the current policy that is in place and I think moving forward with a new policy is irresponsible I think it it doesn't show that we trust our cabinet in doing the job that we've in essence signed off and hired them to do I think they are very capable I think if parents came to

administrators with these concerns that we've all agreed that if these books that were read last week were in our schools anybody in this room would remove them from the shelves they were inappropriate for somebody under 18 we are not here to ban books but I'd hate to break it to everybody we've been regulating material for decades and

we've been regulating it by age and one of those regulations that has been stringent has been sexual material whether it's been written whether it's been video or whether it's been magazine it's been regulated for decades I don't think and moving forward with this policy serves our best interest so thank you Mr bridge I too was disgusted with the last

meeting with the paragraphs that were read uh that readers claimed were from books found in our libraries and read those statements those paragraphs in front of students including our student board representative I just thought it was ID otic to do that to make a point I noticed Flyers were circulated by Church groups to The Many religious people in

here would you read those excerpts in your church on Sunday of course you wouldn't before you think I'm some Heathen let me inform you that my wife and I are members of the same church religion since birth and if you wonder what it is I won't tell you you got phones Google October 31st 1517 that will tell

you here's here's why the boilerplate policy is not necessary as Mr Monroe stated we already have a policy in place 13 12.2 which has a challenge procedure in it in place to remove offensive materials and I know it says instructional material but I would interpret that to include any textbook other books or other supplemental materials that could be brought up on a

complaint on a three-step policy or three-step process in that policy excuse me we have a informal resolution the first part of that policy if it's not resolved there it goes to a formal resolution of the policy and if it's not resolved there the superintendent or his design can appoint a Review Committee consisting of assistant superintendent of curriculum

and instruction Innovation and report if that if this policy does pass tonight those two words will be added a principal and or appropriate members of the district administrative staff selected by assistant superintendent two teachers in the appropriate content area selected in consultation and agreement with the associated Chino teachers fourth member certified or certificated librarian excuse me two

members of the community selected and consultation with the PTA PFA Council and where appropriate a student selected by the principal of the school where the complaint was filed purpose of the panel will be to study and evaluate that questionable material and if found it'll be removed the policy is there the two words that seem to be driving this whole thing are sexually

obscene do we really need those two words in the policy to file a complaint against a book that falls into that category no you do not a parent can file on any of these books now what's stopping that from happening and following up on this policy as it's currently written here's my other problem with the new policy it says District

residents look what's happened since Coline and I'm talking about District residents that don't have students in school may not have any other business but want to come and see if there's a particular book normally I wouldn't have a problem with that you have to go in and you have to sign in in the district because we've continually worked on the safety of our

students you heard Mr na talk about that and how have we done that we've gone to sigle point of entry to get on student campuses when I first came to this District as a teacher you could walk on any campus almost from any angle any gate any any door especially at aala there was all kinds of ways to get on that campus we're

trying to keep it safe it would only take one member just one member of the public with an ulterior motive to say they were coming on to do that and then do something more drastic that I don't even want to speculate now why did I me mention Coline for those of you that don't know my wife's cousin daughter was the

second student hit at Coline still alive today early 40s paralyzed from the waist down since that day she barely made it 45 seconds away from probably being the next fatality of that group I've always been in favor of Public Safety and student safety and that's what we've done and I don't think that uh having that is a

problem the the other problem that I have is the public hearing why do we need that is it to put on a show are we going to have the public hearing at the 50 yard line of the football stadium so we can accommodate as many people that want to hear it and have it blasted over the loudspeaker like I was at the Don Lugo

game the other night and the speakers were pretty loud I'm sure the people across the street at Chino Avenue probably heard a lot of the announcements in the football game so I don't think we need this boilerplate language the language basically comes from a website that involves many states many school districts with individuals schools that supposedly have these materials on

more deeper than pornographic it's much more deeper than that it is changing the minds of Youth completely changing the culture into something different because you know I'll mention it further in my comment but president sha I 100% support the policy revision and here's why the revision serves to tighten up existing policy by providing a process for reviewing materials that

contain sexual explicit materials they have no educational value whatsoever other than pure salaciousness in addition there's nothing on this policy preventing individual parents or guardians from getting questionable books elsewhere they still have the freedom to spend family time in the comfort of their own homes to explore these materials with their own children and finally this policy reinforces our duty as adults to

monitor the availability of appropriate materials for students it also provides a process to protect reading materials that has s sincere educational value we are the adults it is our job to protect the youth and the vulnerable the Innocents we got to protect them and no matter how unpopular they may seem I would be voting yes on this policy and

we have to be aggressive because the zixing policy ain't going to do much we got to be more forceful in protecting whatever is coming in the future we got to protect our youth thank you Mr Cruz I guess it's my turn Dr Enfield did I verify with you that these books that were in question and read were in our

District's libraries yes we checked on them and they were the books were in the libraries thank you I appreciate that because I technically would never bring obviously I wouldn't bring a policy if it wasn't a in our own District Dr Enfield csba do they not recommend policies and um Revis policies I mean isn't that usually the way it goes we get policies that are

recommended from csba all the time and amendments to current policies to strengthen them yes that's correct thank you I did do my homework and as a parent I used to read those and I would see the revisions because they're in capital letters in which I'm kind of embarrassed because most of our teachers who actually work here and were against this

policy didn't even read the ARs the ARs are very clear I wouldn't put myself in charge of banning a book first of all I would put myself in charge of revising a policy to get sexually explicit material out of the hands of children that's what we're here for we need to make sure that we do our duty to do that and I will not

back down from that by the way if they read the ARs because I'm so uneducated I forgot to read the ARs that I recommended the policy for that I trusted our superintendent who did an awesome do job not only reviewing our policy but coming up with ARs to make sure that the policy that I was recommending is enforced and and it's a

policy that does get enforced because that's what board members do make policy to make sure that our our our staff does enforce it it clearly states that our trusted principles would review them first and not only that the parent or a district resident because they are a taxpayer they have a right can bring the material forward they have to put the

page numbers and the proof and guess then what happens our principles who most most of them were teachers prior to being a principal who know what sexually obscene material is then gets to decide if it's sexually obscene once they decide that they give it to our trusted superintendent who the board trusts to to reinforce the policy and then he

determins if it does meet the criteria of sexually obscene once that happens guess what the board does as they always do in hundreds of pages of agendas they put the stamp of approval that's it the whole Community is involved so what's embarrassing is no one read that first of all what's embarrassing is that we have adults fighting to put sexual

explicit material in the hands of children you should be embarrassed because you are on the wrong side of a history and those that sexually exploit children are never on the right side of history and not only that if you have a policy and you have a problem that was presented to you and it makes sense and you bring it to your superintendent he

makes recommendations changes tweaks sends it to legal and says it's great it's ready to go Mrs Shaw guess what I did my job as a board member right and I also made sure that I was addressing a problem because obviously the previous policy wasn't addressing the problem sometimes you have to change the culture and I would suggest all of you who are

so um in love with keeping sexual material in the hands of children if you don't want me to make policies against that then go talk to the political cartel in Sacramento that is trying to push this into the hands of children with you because once you do that then I will back down because until then you need to leave our kids alone and I will

continue to do what I can do to make sure our staff who is amazing at what they do and who's embarrassed that this is in there because guess what people do put stuff in there or it's been in there and it needs to get out period so I'm glad that they brought that forward I'm glad that somebody like me who didn't go

to college but was a CVUSD graduate who was um you know taught by all of our amazing teachers throughout the year gave me enough critical thinking skills to be able to solve a problem and I hope our board would support this because that's what board members do we revise policy we bring policy forward and that's exactly what I did in won't back

down until Sacramento backs down so with that said we'll go ahead and take a vote all in favor I I any opposed no no the motion passes with the vote of three to2 that concludes the action item oh preferential sorry no thank you with preferential voting no the item passes with a motion with a vote of 3 to2 that

concludes the action item Pat we're now on to consent are there any speakers there's one request to speak on item 3a1 thank you Pat Sarah Sarah Omari it's Sarah Sarah Omari all right good evening Dr envil board cabinet and Community I'm a CVUSD Alam and longtime resident of Chino Hills I have over a decade's experience in public service and a master's degree

in public administration I'm speaking tonight on the pattern of sloppy and unethical minute taking that continues to be overlooked by this board majority according to board bylaw 9324 quote the Board of Education recognizes that maintaining accurate minutes of board meetings helps Foster trust in board governance however based on the October 19th minutes I have strong doubts that

the board follows this bylaw first regarding item 1 B2 the spelling of Guadalupe Gusman's first name is inconsistent with the spelling from a prior meeting while I acknowledge that this could be a typo the rest of the minutes suggest a pattern P of blatant disregard for factchecking following the item is the recap of President Shaw passing out certificates of appreciation

to cabinet members with no item number next to the summary I would like to emphasize that this action was not on the proposed agenda and while seemingly positive event shows that President Shaw believes herself to be above falling board policies and procedures best practices for minute taking a public meeting states that actions are to be captured objectively accurately and

succinctly why then in item one f is Lisa great House's public comment regarded as quote regarding a board member rather than just stating her comment was regarding president Shaw same amount of words and there was no doubt that Miss great House's comment was about Shaw's unethical use of public funds when this is coupled with a previous meeting minutes saying that

missa quote corrected rather than just responded to miss great House's comments well let's just say that's an interesting Twist of facts due to limitations of time I'll bring up just one more of the many examples of manipul ation plaguing these minutes in Section 5 communication Mr Bridge's update in the minutes States quote suggested to Mr crw that he should stop reading portions

of books during the board comments end quote however after review of the meeting recording Mr Bridge never said this rather Mr Bridge asked Mr Cruz to stop with the Mr Roger stick which I agree more importantly a major Point missing from Mr Bridge's update was the request to get back to education and academics as the first first semester is

closing why is the minute taker emitting a request by a board member to refocus on the actual responsibilities of the board the pattern points to intentional mischaracterization with all that being said what does it mean when the board approves minutes that do not accurately reflect the actions of the meetings does that mean that the board cannot be

trusted to govern effectively and in good faith I believe so and in that VIN I recommend that the board have the minutes fact checked and seriously revised before approval tonight thank you thank you Pat any more speakers I think you do an awesome job Pat board members do you have any PA polls Mr Bridge no polls Mr Cruz no polls Mr minroe no

football teams for qualifying for the CIF playoffs I was able to attend the last regular season game at Chino uh and the um first playoff game at Don Lugo and and also no actually the first playoff game at aala and the the U the second playoff game for Don Lugo which was a home game for them since

they were on the road the first week um now uh as we head into the break next week we have winter sports that are now starting uh and I want to wish all the teams there good good luck on their upcoming season uh I also attended the Chino Valley fire district state of the fire district address presentation at

the main fire station number one um also had a chance to attend the DARE graduation ceremony at RS last week was very well done I'm glad to see that program coming to a lot of our schools in the uh in the district last night I had the opportunity to attend the biomedical Science and Technology Academy openhouse at Chino High included

a campus tour student run demonstrations how to apply in a question and answer period with the staff and students it was a terrific showcase and I'm really proud that we have this program in our in our district for future students uh that are interested in this field of study it uh it really is well done I'm glad it's off the ground and doing well

and continuing to grow there was probably even with the rain about 50 50 people in attendance last night and I understand the first two sessions they had um over a hundred uh I think at each of the each of the sessions so and even more than that yeah so I was um very pleased to see it and uh I'm glad that

we're doing it uh uh I have a little bit of a bias because I have a son and daughter-in-law that are both engineers and and I see how successful they are and I think anytime we can prepare students to get into that field they have an opportunity to do very very well um and then lastly to conclude my

comments uh and now we've had the had the vote tonight I'll say it again I think it's now time for this District to get away from the culture wars and focus on getting the programs to educate our students that will allow them to graduate and move on on to a successful future career because isn't because isn't that really our purpose for all of

us not just us sitting up here but the entire District the entire staff the entire Community that's what we're here for and then finally I would like to wish everyone an enjoyable Thanksgiving week off and a very Happy Thanksgiving with your uh family and friends that concludes my comments thank you Mr Bridge Mr no yeah um again I'd like to thank all the

speakers we had 40 plus speakers that came and spoke tonight uh I'd like to thank everyone and especially a teacher that who brought us back to the ground a common ground with common sense our job is to make sure that we provide the best education for our children that's Math Science and and language arts um that is

what I believe would what are we are doing to achieve so that I know our district is doing well fairly well compared to other districts but when we are looking at the State of California still we're way behind in Education Ranking compared to other states in the United States and we can look at why the reason why we get

sidetracked why our students are lacking even though we have have so much of resources so we have to look at to the basics and we need to make certain adjustments and and partially I believe what we have done tonight is to making a statement that uh we're taking the accountability and responsib back to the boardroom so that that we do care for

our children's education in each classroom and each schools and second by showing our appreciation encouragement for Parental involvement also uh shows a valuee for not only our adult population but our students attending these meetings to see so many adults having interest in school meetings is uh very helpful uh I think for their mind Minds ET too because it's caring parents who

makes their children successful we're all farmers and we're all sadly to say no one's getting younger we're not a Rising Sun our children's are but our job is to raise a best Second Generation and without our parental sacrifice we can't expect a good uh Harvest and so I'd like to thank each one of you for being here and and being

a good parent and and being a a concerned citizen having said that I'd like to also uh reinstate that we need to make sure that teach our children to respect our uh teachers and and staffs in the school it's very important to have them respect uh adults uh it's very very important value that uh some of us have

forgotten I think we need to restore that value and also you know provide you know safe learning environment as uh Mr and Mrs Buzz had did for their children uh they were able to wake up 4:30 in the morning to send their son to a school every morning and took their daughters to a a horse riding lessons and and many of us and maybe all

of us are doing so today too but it's well worth it it's well worth it so I can say this Thanksgiving citizen that we're truly blessed to bring in chinro Valley Unified School District uh thank you again for all the teachers and all the parents and our cabinet members here thank you thank you Mr na Mr minro first of all I want to thank uh

the local Lions Club uh uh we went the other night and they gave a I don't know scholarship to 12 different classrooms in our district of much needed materials that uh the teachers some comes out of pocket for so thanks for them for their hard work and dedication to our community and our school district and and doing that every year they do

that so what a great benefit to our classrooms um secondly I just want to address something it always comes up I've never been so unqualified in my life of doing something it seems everybody wants to qualify me as a expert of something or not an expert of anything or or the board uh I find it a little funny is um most

of us didn't go to cooking school but yet we can go in the kitchen and cook a meal you know a lot of us live life and having a formal education doesn't mean that we're necessarily qualified to do anything and not having a formal education doesn't mean that you are unqualified to do anything I find that funny that people

come to this pulpit and when they address us they want to make that a point what qualified us to do this job is the people voted us into office that was it we were willing and the sad thing is in these races I'll say in my race there was two people out of tens of thousands in our community that wanted to sit on this

seat and face the fire that everybody breathes at them two out of 22,000 registered people that's just registered there's well more than 22,000 in my district so what qualified US is the people that voted us under this seat all of us have unique Lifestyles and different views on how to do things which hopefully AIDS in this position as we are up here but all of us

has put ourselves on the line it is very easy to sit there and tear down everything I think it was Abraham Lincoln that said Beware of those that tear down everything and never offer any any uh Solutions where are we as a community God I was happy today we actually agreed on something I think that's the first time

that both sides have actually agreed that the books that were read the last meeting were terrible man I wrote it down in my notes because in the year that I've sat here is the first time that collectively as a community we've agreed on something you know agreeance comes to come conversation and if we can't sit down and talk about things we're never going

to find out where we agree and where we move forward so that being said I will conclude with I truly hope everybody has a Happy Thanksgiving I hope our students enjoy the week off I hope our teachers enjoy the week off and they recharge and they enjoy their families and they truly are thankful for the great freedoms that

we enjoy in this country I wish everybody a good night thank you Mr Monroe Mr Cruz oh by the way be thankful I let you go first actually Mr Cruz did that's okay you know I attended the um the r cutting event Dr um Flores so good good job good job because let me tell you what what you stated was

pretty um was pretty it was it was the dual immersion but you you mentioned it I pay attention to the littlest things about language what you said about language is the most massive inclusive art we know a mtanous and Anonymous work on conscience and you know you're you're exactly right you know things come through our minds our thoughts and then words come out and

then everything that we see becomes a reality I mean it's pretty it's pretty impressive what we can do so so I was reflecting on what you were saying because it is true um language gives us you know first those ideas and then we just come out so I I really appreciate that inspiration that you do and and for

the Lions Club I I pay attention Miss fellows that you're very you're very consider and kind the words that come out of you I I've always pay attention to that and I thank you and Dr Park you too but I pay attention to that because you know what really matters is this is this moment because these are

precious moments because you know we're going to pass away but it's the littlest things that matter so you know I really appreciate these are the things that matter the most so you know um um you know I just want to mention about 1984 because because you know I read the book I don't remember but it was O'Brien

and Winston Winston is the ponist and then O'Brien is torturing Winston because O'Brien read his diary and his diary stated um you Winston you stated that two plus 2 is four and then and then what what O'Brien does it he shocks him for therapy and and as he continues he shocks him he said no wisdom wisdom the state says 2+ 2 is five and after a

while he accepts what the state's telling him the truth is 2 plus 2 is 5 and and when that lady approached mentioned that that is what the state's telling us the state's telling us 2 + 2 is 5 that you know you can choose your gender um trans transhumanism everything goes so what that lady exactly stated was on point and that is why I voted on

that because I I know where all this is heading towards it's heading towards like we all know it's it's the innocence of our children just completely destroying their lives and then have to do this again because this is so cool um Chino Valley not Chino Valley but but the wiim say reindeer November 2nd at the annual 5K

run I I do these I do three of them every year I I recommend that everybody should do them it's it's really cool you should do it yeah it's good I know you do too don't you you you're a runner but maybe you want to do theer and then the last thing I want to do what I've always

wanted to do this and um it's a scholarship and I'm going to choose the high school the high school that was very similar to my school and that is Don Lugo and I'm going to write this down I'm going to present it to Enfield but this is a scholarship that that I've always wanted to do and um it's going to

be a scholarship for for a photograph you know I'm going to work this out a scholarship with painting because the art is going to be coming up so brush and digital and then music and then a culture Heritage culture a student can can do something pertaining to their culture you know food items and so forth and you know what I want this to I want

I want kids to present it at the board so and I want this to end around April so as kids come and then as a board We could decide and it be it' be really nice and another reason why I'm bringing up Don Lugo is because Mr na and I we remember Michael and Michael's getting a master degree at Redlands but it was so

cool because because you know that was um Mr n my Michael didn't have a father so he became the father and so we wrote him a letter of recommendation it came back to us because KP was questioning it and we wrote them back again and they accepted him at Cali and his GPA was what under 3.0 and he's getting a

master's degree in political science so that was wonderful so that's one of the reasons why I'll be choosing this so I I'll be prepping that up Thanksgiving and then if it's okay with the board allowing them to come in and they can present what the these criterias are okay thank thank you and Happy Thanksgiving thank you Mr Cruz um Dr

anfield yeah I want to uh thank the Lions Club for uh the scholarships that they gave to our teachers they do that every year they they selected 12 of them and it was really you know in the the spirit of Thanksgiving they were giving to our teachers which was really a neat event and again I want to thank them for

that and then lastly I want to wish everybody a Happy Thanksgiving and and I hope everybody enjoys their time with family and friends thank you thank you Dr Enfield um I guess it's my turn and I know it's late but I was uh while we do our site visits I find them extremely fun and we've been spoiled a lot lately

but John don't get jealous because I know you were a ranger but uh towns in I was a ranger too they got me some really cool Vans so I could wear them to when I go visit and for their promotion and they're customized so I thought that was really cool and I appreciate their gift um they also gave

us a really cool swag bag so I wanted to thank them I know John's going to be asking for some next because we were both Rangers but hey I was a Trojan oh okay a Trojan whatever you were oh that's because it was back before me then we turned into Rangers okay that makes sense well there we go um we had an exciting uh few weeks

uh on 1023 I was able to meet with a couple teachers who wanted to express their concerns in regards to the policy and with some of their things that they addressed I was able to um report those back to Dr Enfield and hopefully they saw you know that they're that we heard them um and on October 25th we went to

the dual immersion uh program ribbon cutting and yes Dr Flores you did an amazing um job at addressing the the community and today we actually got to go back over there which was beautiful just to see every single classroom there and see what a great job um that Mrs La is doing and on the 27th I was able to

um go and see the PLC training which I absolutely loved because you always hear about it but to see it in action Dr Park I appreciate all the work that you put into making sure that happens alongside um the rest of the cabinet um that was really cool and to hear the Praises that the the teacher was saying about our district that was

really encouraging um and to know that they want to use us as a model District because because of everything you guys are doing and I I just think that's that's awesome it shows that we're blazing the trail all together so I hope that you find encouragement in that because I definitely left um encouraged on 10:30 we had a special board meeting

um on 111 we did Butterfield site visits which Butterfield's always Pleasant to go visit on 112 we went to Brig site visits um which was also exciting because I met a teacher who wanted me to come back and read soon so although um I'm intimidated to read against in front of the little ones because I know that

they'll correct every word that I get wrong which I will find exciting I get to bring them treats and do something that I love which was to serve inside the classroom we were back there on November 6 for the DARE graduation and I have to say I am so glad that the police departments um and the sheriff department had revamped the

Dare program it was there when I was younger and to see all the work that was put into it and see how the kids are learning and they have more awareness about about what um you know drugs and alcohol that are present and just having that base um I am so appreciative of that because coming from a childhood

where we had horrible things laying around in our home I know that um you know the Dare the Dare program back then really helped me and my siblings be able to have an outlet to try to tell our story and help others um through the process and how damaging drugs can be so I hope our little ones really find that

knowledgeable and it really sticks with them as they continue to be exposed to these things and the bad environments that you know we they're exposed to um throughout our state um on 117 we I was able to go to the veteran celebration at cattle we I was invited and that was awesome and beautiful and to see those

um kind of celebrations all over our district I am so glad that we honor those that serve and have served um I I hope we continue to do those things cuz those things are beautiful and I thank veterans every single day my dad was was in the Marines and I know the sacrifice um you know that it takes to not only

serve but also the families committed and I appreciate everything that they do um 118 I went to my Roop uh commissioner meeting which I love to serve on that and I'm hoping you know that I can continue to serve there because it's an exciting program that our district Works hand inand with other districts to bring programs for our kids that aren't

College Bound that want to you know pursue other things so that is really exciting on 119 I could tell you it's really cool when we go to um things after hours like the Lions Club and we got to see them spoil some teachers uh that is just a really neat thing because regardless of what people try to say in the public we have

a great um board I I believe in my heart I feel like everybody's different opinions bring something and and I really think when we show up to these things and we see the beauty of our community it gives us encouragement instead of just hearing the outside um noise and hate that gets thrown at us sometimes on 1117 um which was today right I'm losing

track we went to borba or 16 um today we went to borba to do our site visits and I enjoyed that so a lot of things that we got to do um I also wanted to bring just um a comment in regards to the litigation um I think yeah of course you're going to occur some fees before

we hand it over um you know uh the the Baton to Liberty justice but I also think we have a right to respond to unfair litigation so if you're if you should be mad at anybody again go address the political cartel in Sacramento because they should never be suing a school district for wanting to involve the parents so I'm

glad our community supports that I'm glad our board supports that and I'm glad that we're not backing down and allowing that to happen because parents are essential in the children's lives um and I think that you know again we have the right to defend ourselves and the board made a responsible decision with the multiple offers that we received to

do a pro bono case um if you guys came to the special board meeting we did vote to have our previous Council there just in case Liberty Justice needed to ask them something but we're working on something with that and I continue to trust that our district is doing the best thing for our community I am grateful and with that said Happy

Thanksgiving I am so grateful that our community voted Us in because yeah my the race that I ran in I never wanted to run for this position but I did it because there was a need and there was only two people that that ran during that time and the community voted Us in so um regardless we're going to continue

with being thankful in our community regardless of the outside noise and the hate that's given to us I just hope that others would lead by example because there is children watching and Jacob you're a bright young man and I love that you brought attention to something and I will make sure that I follow up with Dr Enfield on your concern um so

yes we're here for the kids we're here to make sure our community is involved and with that Happy Thanksgiving I now adjourn the regular meeting of board of education at 8:50 P.M
