I call to order the regular meeting of the board of education Thursday, August 21st, 2025 at 4:50 p.m. with Cervantes, Cruz, Naw, and Shaw present. Patricia, are there any requests from the public to speak on closed session items prior to the board adjourning into close session? Thank you, ma'am. We will now adjourn into close session regarding the

following matters which are all described in detail on the printed agenda. Conference with legal counsel existing litigation for cases. Conference with legal counsel anticipated litigation two cases. I now reconvene the regular meeting of the board of education at 6 PM with

AGV consulting appointed Allison Ankley as coordinator of secondary curriculum effective date to be determined. appointed David Sue as assistant principal at Cattle Elementary School and Glenme Elementary School. Effective date August 22nd, 2025. Appointed Christina Edday as assistant principal at Hidden Trails Elementary School and Cortez Elementary School. Effective date to be determined. No further action was taken which required

recognition. It's one of the highlights of our board meetings and tonight we have the pleasure of celebrating a group group of students who have made both their school and our community proud. At this time, I would like to invite Don Lugo FFA team and their adviserss to the front so we can honor them for their historic achievement as state champions

at the 2025 Calpali San Louis Abyispo Ligh Horse Judging Competition, California's premier contest in the field. Their exceptional performance, teamwork, and dedication have earned them in the honor of representing the state of California at the 98th National FFA Convention in Indian Indianapolis, led by coach Ashley Kerton, and composed of team members Sariah Para, Sadi Hutchinson, Archer Hassan, and Alex

Medina. Their outstanding season included six first place finishes and individual AC accolades including first and six sixth height um indivi high individual overall. We also have Gina Hassan our AG teacher also with us. You're all there. >> Uh, I would just like to say how proud I am of these uh amazing students. Uh, what they were able to accomplish is

truly amazing. The level of dedication that it takes. This is an extremely competitive event, a career development event that they were able to compete across the state of California where we spent many, many miles traveling um to events like uh UC Davis, Fresno State, CalPoly, San Los Aispo. Um and so they have had many top five finishes over the

last 10 years. Um and this year they secured the state championship. And so, um, I'm just so proud of them and I know that they're going to be able to represent California and Don Lugo at the national level this, um, October. >> Oh, I can't reach that. Um, hi everyone. I'm Satie Hutcherson and this is my amazing team except

Sariah because she's in college. And I just wanted to say what a privilege it has been to be able to participate on the horse judging team. Um it has been a great way to develop my self-confidence, my teamwork skills, um developing a bond with my team every practice and I think it's just truly been a great opportunity

to develop myself, my public speaking and yeah, I love my team and I'm so proud of how far we have been able to come and I'm so excited for nationals. [Applause] Sie Hutchinson and great job speaking. >> Alex Medina, good job. >> And then of course Sariah Par is at college. So I will give this to you

Now at this time I'd like to invite representatives from Good Shepard Presbyterian Church to come forward so we can honor and recognize their extraordinary generosity and unwavering support for our students. Reverend Co and our friends at the Good Hope Sheepardd Presbyterian Church have donated 20,000 to the district to benefit the Hope Center and our high school Christian clubs. Without a doubt, that is a powerful investment in the well-being, character, development, and leadership of our youth. This gift is directly support students in need and strengthen the sense of community and

purpose across our campuses. We are profoundly grateful for the Good Shepard Presbyterian Church's partnership and for their um heart they continue to show for the future of our students and values that unite us to help our students. [Applause] If we can give them one more huge round of applause for the generosity. Okay, we're now on to comments from our student representative. Um, we're so excited to have Phoenix Kim. I'd like to take this opportunity to also welcome our new student board representative, Phoenix, uh, Kim, who is joining us for the very first time. Phoenix is serving

as the voice of our students on the board this year. We're glad to have you with us and look forward to your perspective. Phoenix, also a husky. The floor is yours. >> All right. Good evening, Board President Shaw, members of the board, Deputy Superintendent Park, and distinguished guests. I'm Phoenix Kim, and I'm currently a senior at Chino's High

School. I'm very honored to be serving the Chino Valley Unified School District student board representative. I'm excited for what's to come on the board as I share more information about our schools from our students perspective. So, first and foremost, I would like to welcome back all CVUSD students as well as staff. And I really hope that we are

all excited for this school year and the great possibilities to come as we thrive. As the school year just begun, all of our schools across the district has found great success in their starts. And I'd like to take a moment to highlight some of these exciting accomplishments and updates. To begin with, Ayala High School is currently preparing for their upcoming rally,

which will take place this Friday with the Moana theme. To add on, they successfully held their senior sunrise and are currently in discussion of plans for their homecoming dance. Next, Chino High School is also preparing for their upcoming rally, which will feature a competition of classes with a glow-in-the-dark theme and will be recognizing fall sports. They will be

having their first home football game with a western theme. Furthermore, they had they've had a great first day of school, kicking off the school year with a positive culture where they held a mini rally, taught student sections, and had field day style activities. Additionally, Don Lugo recently held their senior sunrise as well, uh, which featured snacks, musics, and photo photo

opportunities with props. Although their gym is currently under remodeling, they've been they've begun discussions for their homecoming theme and have been planning spray weeks leading up to football games. And finally, best for last, uh, Chino's High School has had a very ecstatic start to the school year. We are significantly ahead of our game and we've had outstanding achievements

regarding our student participation. We've held our senior sunrise on the first day of school with hundreds of seniors showing up as well as receiving complimentary breakfast burritos and taking photo photos with props as well as a beautiful sunrise in the background. Uh very recently we've had a welcoming rally under the theme of the Lego movie. And during our rally, our

students showed much pride and support for our entire student body where their entire gym erupted during our dance pedal game. We also announced our homecoming theme during the rally which we will be hosting with the theme of a night in Athens. And currently we're preparing for club rush which will feature over 130 clubs which will be participating and active on campus and

many more to be approved in the future. We've been preparing and planning spirit weeks for upcoming football games and other athletic events. And in fact today we will actually have our first home game which is themed USA. As a member of the student body, I'm incredibly proud of all the hard work and school spirit being shown across our district. It is

very inspiring to see our students and staff starting off the year very strong with great enthusiasm and dedication. I look forward to sharing many more accomplishments as the year progresses. job. Um, welcome. Next are our comments from our employee representatives. We have Steven Frasier from ACT. >> I think the students are taller than me. We have to Anyway, good evening. On behalf of the educators of Chino Valley, I want to welcome everybody back to the 2526 school year. Our teachers, counselors, and all of our members are

ready to serve students with both dedication and care. It's nice to see everybody and welcome Phoenix. Um I'd like to thank our um first of all those that we worked together on the new hire orientation. It was very successful. So, we thank you for that. And also our community supporters, particularly the Chino Valley Defenders of Public Education for their summer supply drive

that supported our educators. Their generosity shows how much this community values schools and professionals who make learning possible. As we begin the school year, our focus must be clear. Safe schools, sufficient resources, and professional respect for educators. This is where you can help the most. On tonight's agenda, again, I urge the board to stop politicizing classrooms, which distracts from what truly makes a

difference, preparing students to think critically and to succeed. Public schools thrive when educators, parents, and community work together, and let's work toward that goal. ACT remains committed in collaboration with the district for class-siz staffing, and fair compensation because when educators thrive, our students will win. Thank you all for your time. believe this is your first meeting as well. >> Hi, good evening. On behalf of CHAMP and all of the district and site administrators, I want to say welcome back. We have been experiencing uh a very fruitful welcome back to schools. Schools are getting back in session and starting off the year very well. We started off this year with leadership

charge for all of our admin. Our theme this year is thrive and all of our our sites are excited to see how we can thrive this year and how we can get students more um productive and successful. We've had some positive media exposure for our elementary schools, specifically Lidle. Uh elementary was recognized for positive impact it had on the lives of

individuals. specifically ABC7 meteorologist Leslie Lopez. Uh Levi Dicki Elementary was recognized for earning the AVID impact award and becoming the first elementary showcase school and earning the teacher advocacy award for AVID. We've we are in the full mix of back to school night and we have seen excellent attendance at those events and so we're really excited to work with the

community this year. uh math training has also begun and supporting teachers in the most up-to-date teaching pedigogy and the most current research on math teaching. Uh several sites have reported increased involvement with parents and family joining our community organizations and we want to thank those parents for coming and joining and continue to encourage parents to join those uh

committees and being involved in school. We are all working together to make the best environment for our students. And finally, we would like to express our appreciation to the human resources for working so hard to fill all of the open positions throughout the district. Um, and how important and effective it's been to have counselors at each site.

Uh, even just within this first two weeks, they've been they've been busy. So, on behalf of Champ, welcome back and and we thank all of you for this opportunity. Thank you. >> Awesome. Thank you. If I stood here and read a book saying the slur for Jewish people, would the excuse that I was reading from a book make it okay that I said it? Matter of fact, let's say as a sub, I do what I always do and report bullying of a

Jewish student to admin of the school site. Would it be okay with you that not only did they not inform you of the bullying of your child, but there is little to no punishment at all because the bullying is the child the bully is a child of someone's connected to the school board, as is the admin taking the

report. Even as I'm saying these words, everyone hearing them is recoiling in disgust and outrage at the idea that anyone would ever do any of those things. So, if we can all understand how repugnant that would be, then why do you all feain ignorance and confusion when it comes to the black community? to the eighth grade teacher at Legacy Academy.

Why did you show a PragerU video called Why I Love America that told students on the blackest school in the district that America is the least racist country in the world and more Africans are now making the choice to come here to Dr. Bacino Hillsai, why do you ignore racism and race-based bullying and assault for that matter? Why don't you take

seriously the pleas of parents and community members to meet with you in an effort to do something about that racism epidemic on your campus in a lasting and systemic way? And most importantly, why do Dr. Park and Dr. Enfield do nothing about staff so problematic that students have group chats on how often their teacher says the n-word or black parents

have stories about how deep their board appointed admins like to bury complaints and concerns? All of this is to say from this moment on going forward, no one sitting at that deis can ever again claim not to be racist. You've had every opportunity to do something about it in your hiring, firing, curriculum, discipline, and resolutions here in this

room, but made the conscious choice not to. going forward, no matter what you claim, the community now knows through your actions that you are racist to your very core. And to the non-black minorities in this community, this last part is for you. Even when you you're bl you blindly support this board, they will still call you the slurs when

you're not around. We'll still legislate against you from that deis and will always refuse to translate these meetings into your language so that you can understand them in real time. Never forget your skin color gives you a closer proximity to whiteness than me, but that doesn't mean they have any more respect for your community than they do

mine. Hello everyone. Thank you for having me here. I just want to make you aware that there's a new resource in the Chino Valley. It's for uh moms in crisis pregnancy or moms struggling with parenting. Maybe they're single moms or maybe they don't have all the resources we need that they need. We can provide all these resources that they need to

walk alongside them and feel them feel comfortable that they have a safety net and a resource and a companions to walk alongside them and make sure that they can be successful raising their children. Come and see us. We're one block away from Don Lugo High School. We have diapers, wipes, baby clothes, maternity clothes, boxes of food. Um we

have classes on life skills, pregnancy, labor and delivery, anything that you want to know about. We have classes for fatherhood. So we're here in the Chino Valley with a big house. Uh we accept anyone who wants to come by, anyone who needs help. We even have desetin and shampoo and anything that you might need to just make it easier to raise your

child and to have a family that can be with you and kind of cheerlead you along. So we want to dust off an old truth that motherhood is noble and that we can all do it together. Uh we can partner together. We have partnerships with St. Vintage Depal with an adoption agency in Chino Valley with Catholic Charities. I'm hoping to make some

inroads with the hope center that's in Chino so all these things can come together where we can hold hands and make sure moms moms are safe, babies are safe, and families are safe. Thank you for having me. And come see us on Chino Avenue at 3683 Building B for Baby. And I gave some flyers to Patricia and she can pass them

out to you with all of our contact information. Thank you for having me. [Applause] Christy Hurst on a non-aggenda item. I want to speak about an issue which is supposedly at the heart of our board president's political career, protecting children, and ask a series of questions about a very real lapse in this district's duty to actually protect

children. Sonia, when did you become aware that your buddy, a district school resource officer and DARE instructor, allegedly engaged in quote lewd acts and lascivious conduct with district children? We know the district has been aware of these serious allegations since the start of January. This means you've had almost eight months to figure out a plan to address this issue. We know the

superintendent put out a single statement the day the arrest was announced by the Chino PD, but what has been done by the district to prevent this from happening again? Have you had meetings with parents whose children were exposed? Have you offered parenting classes conducted by mental health professionals to guide parents through this horrific situation? Counseling? What added procedures have you

implemented to protect our children? Why haven't you kept the community up to date on what changes have been made to the DARE and SRO programs and how this case is moving through the legal system? I want to highlight for this community that Sonia Shaw frequently speaks about parents in this district, calling us groomers and pedophiles and child

abusers for opposing her policies while at the same time someone she quote bonded over their love of Christ. A direct direct quote from Sonia from the LA Times was likely sexually assaulting 12-year-olds in our district. This is what happens when you call people who oppose you pedophiles. You give cover to actual pedophiles. So stop and ask, what

exactly does she mean when she says she is protecting kids? Does it only mean protecting kids from the people she personally hates? So long as someone is on her side, she will downplay the sexual abuse of children. Is that it? Or is it that she never really cared about protecting kids? That it was always about fitting her narrative of attacking

quote liberals. And since this doesn't fit her narrative, she won't address it. For someone who posts online like crazy about protecting our girls and children, she has not posted once about this. Not a single media appearance, not a single public statement to the media, which she loves to do. No outrage. What has she actually done in response to a real case

of sexual assault of 12-year-olds on our campuses? I am horrified and sickened this has happened. I hope the families who were exposed get the resources and support they need and deserve. And I hope someone in this district steps up and helps you all navigate this. >> Lisa G on an action item 2A1. It's one thing for the pastor of Calvary

Chapel, Chino Hills, to create false hysteria over Assembly Bill 495, but for this school board to further spread that disinformation is disgusting. I wonder how many people who believe Pastor Jack Hibbs rants as he hawks his new book on TV, even bothered to look up the text of the bill. Did you read the bill before you wrote your resolution on tonight's

agenda? Miss Shaw, you say AB495 is quote handing strangers full control over your kids with no court, no parental consent. That is comp complete falsehood, but I'm sure it's serving you well as you use our taxpayer dollars to travel the state to campaign for higher office. Any claim that this bill legalizes human trafficking and kidnapping is not only false, but

harmful fear-mongering that distracts from the actual goal of protecting vulnerable children. Here are the facts. The Family Preparedness Act is aimed at helping California families make caregiving arrangements for their children during time of crisis, like a deportation or illness. The bill references an official form known as caregivers authorization affidavit and would expand who could sign one to

include trusted non- relatives. Families in crisis should be able to rely on close family, friends, mentors, teachers, or neighbors. Being able to live with a trusted family or friend can ease a child's trauma after being separated from their parents and can reduce the likelihood of the child entering the foster care system. Now, Jack Hibbs and this board are screaming

that this bill allows anyone to legally kidnap your child at school, which is ridiculous at best and a dangerous lie at worst. This is Jack Hibbs and this board's attempt to discredit Democrats in Sacramento who are trying to deal with conditions created by ICE raids where there are real abductions of undocumented individuals, green card holders, and even US citizens who are

being sent to deportation centers without due process. In fact, this school district is one of the only ones in this area that hasn't put out a statement assuring families that their children would be protected at school if ICE agents came to campus. Clearly, this board doesn't care that we have many families in our community who are scared

to send their children to school. As for this bill, if this board was actually worried about child safety, then why wouldn't you just make it a policy to do a background check if a parent asked a non-relative to take on short-term guardianship role for their child? As usual, instead of looking for solutions or showing even the least bit of

empathy, this board is again paring your power-hungry pastor to create yet another manufactured crisis and mislead voters. Thank you, >> Christy Hurst. Information item. Tonight, our board is introducing a policy based on their extreme interpretation of Mahmud v. Taylor, a recent Supreme Court decision which held that students may be opted out of any curriculum that is in conflict with

their quote sincerely held religious beliefs. I have many questions about the policy you are putting forward in response to this. You are setting this district and every teacher in it up for a logistical nightmare. In the instruction section of your policy, point 7 states that parental permission is required for any quote discussion or study of the issue is instigated by the

students. That was your grammar, not mine. You are applying the MAMAMU decision to student speech, which is beyond the scope of this decision and a violation of students first amendment rights. Since MAMAMU does not apply only to LGBTQIA issues, as you seem to have misinterpreted it, but to any topic that conflicts with a family sincerely held religious beliefs, what happens when a

family's belief is that Jesus does not exist? Will teachers need permission for any student to discuss Jesus? Many religions believe that women should be submissive and not allowed to vote as we are seeing publicly right now. Does this mean teachers need parent permission to discuss women in power, women's fight for voting rights, suffrage? Dr. Anfield says he sub it says he submitted this

policy. Why did he not follow CSVA guidance on this issue which I have seen and this policy does not follow it. Your policy states quote instruction inclusive of LGBTQ plus content many times. What does this mean? Who will define this? Why do you single out this one topic? What happens when students are opted out? Who will supervise these

students? Who will pay for that? What will these students do? How are teachers supposed to stop students from organically bringing these topics up? If my kid makes a point of discussion that references, say, their two aunts who are lesbians, what happens to her? What about the kid who makes a comment about their two moms or two dads? What will

teachers do? Are they going to tell my kid they're not tell a kid they're not allowed to mention their two moms or two dads? And if my kid refuses, which I would tell her to do, what then? Districts who push the scope of this decision will very likely be sued. And once again, our board president is thrilled to be the district that does

it. Sonia Shaw is a narcissist who craves fame and notoriety. She continues to take tax dollars out of our classrooms to advance her profile and political aspirations. Our legal fees were over $1.3 million for two fiscal years in a row. I'm sorry. They averaged 1.3. That was a two over 200 200% increase in before she was on the board.

This decision is sure to result in more lawsuits. Why does Chino have to be the one to spend our tax dollars? Why can't you just leave it to be sorted out and leave our money in our classrooms where it belongs? Paul Griffin, action item 2 A1. >> Good evening. So, the uh Assembly Bill 495, I understand where you're going to

have some some tension with it. I think where I disagree with it the most uh is that if anyone tries to commit a fraud, they're going to call it a misdemeanor. I think that should be up to a felony because we want to protect our kids. So, by all means, if your protest does say at least elevate the misdemeanor to a

felony, that would be great. But in in addition though, I've read the bill as well, and it says right at the beginning that we are not obligated, the board is not obligated to do a background check, but it doesn't say that you're forbidden from doing it. So, you can do that background check. Another option for you is

listening to the students. If they if some stranger files the paperwork and then they try and check that kid out, well, tell the kid it's like, "Hey, we haven't done the background check on the person who's going to take you out." So, let us know if this is a stranger or not before we release you into their

custody. And when the kid says, "I don't know who this person is." Problem solved. Call the police. have that person arrested because our kids are our own allies in identifying who is safe for them and who is not. So, we have options. We don't need to fear and and take all of our families out of California the way Pastor Hibbs is

telling everyone to do. That's just ridiculous. We can do the background checks. We can send someone from the school uh from the school district to check, hey, you're the parent, right? This person signed this uh uh form that said that they could take your kid out. are you okay with that? And if they're okay with it, you know that that person

is safe. And if they haven't, you get to call the police. You get a great story for this district that shows how well we will protect our kids because this person is a fraud. So, background checks, ask the kid before you release them into their custody. These are options we have. I hope you exercise them. Thank you.

Thank you, Mr. Cervantes. I will open it up to comments, questions, concerns. Seeing that there's none, I'll go ahead. >> Hold on. >> Go ahead. >> You know, President Shaw, as a teacher,

I have to go through a lot. I have to have credentials, have to pass a CBEST, interviews, a ground check. Why was it like that? Why wasn't all that the same as becoming a teacher? And so it just doesn't make sense to me. >> Thank you. >> Thank you, Mr. Cruz. I just want to clarify some things because there's a

lot of misinformation that was being um spoken at the the mic today. I authored our schoolboard resolution opposing this nightmare. I am not a Californian that's running from any of these fights. Actually, Sacramento waged a war on parents and families, and I'm staying here to fight the good fight to protect our families, clearly. Um, and clearly from a lot of people who misrepresent.

Um, I was in Sacramento this week, but it wasn't on the school board's dime. It was on um money that wasn't the school board. So, I just want to clarify that to the public. I did not use your money to go to Sacramento to fight something that is very important for our kids. Um, Sacramento calls it a caregiver

affidavit, but did you know affidavits already exist? And no, they do not have to be signed by a parent. And I think that's very alarming that now anybody without a signature, no court process can just bring a piece of paper. And you talk about a background check. How long do background checks take? I would say a long time. So what are we going to do

with the student in between? The parent already identifies the emergency contacts in the system when they're signing up the kid. Me, a mother, I go in there and I identify who is going to pick up my child and who's responsible for my kid in the event of an emergency where my husband and I cannot pick up our kids. Now, look, I don't like the

current affidavits, but the reality is a family member can have an affidavit and do that. Now, we do know that a lot of families may use it for reasons that are not for this. Um, but I won't go into that, but this this is a predator's dream bill. I mean, think about it. Anybody can take a piece of paper

without a signature, no court process. You think criminals are going to care if you have a felony or a misdemeanor or anything? Absolutely not. You could just go into the office and pick up any kid you want. Or let's just be real. Kids in California, this is a sanctuary state where you can do and mutilate your body.

According to Newsome, any kid can be brought into California and do the same. But um an adult or anybody can bring in a piece of paper and say, "I just want to take this kid." And now they have full access to do whatever they want with your child. That is the truth. That is what the bill says. I don't care what

any pastor said. I don't follow a pastor. I follow God. And that is that is actually the truth, too. And I again, I'm not going to be leaving. I'm going to fight the good fight and I hope the board supports this so we can be the voice for our community because it was loud and clear a lot of people in our

community voted the board in to defend these things. This is a nightmare for anybody anybody who cares about the child's safety. Why would you want any piece of paper, no signature by any parent. You guys are creating a false alarm for people that are that are, you know, you guys are saying that they're scared that somebody's just going to um

come and take a kid out of school. No one's doing that. And and now you're using that that piece of paper to be able to go take control of a child. Let's be real. The parent the parent who registered their kid already identified, do I have to say that over? They already identified at least three people that

can take care of their child. And the current affidavit would cover any other family member in the case of those three people not being able to do it. Why do we need now a piece of paper for a complete stranger? Anybody who believes that that is for safety, you need to go check yourself because you're in a very

dangerous area of putting a lot of kids at harm and I won't be any part of that. And I am glad our community is strong standing strong against this. Um, but with that said, I think people's hate for certain pastors, which may not even be my pastor, FYI, um, are very much more than just the safety of the kids.

You guys are so clouded in your head with hate of people that you don't even see the reality of the kids. Look, some of you ran for the school board, and I'm just going to say that obviously people in this community two elections in a row didn't agree with the way that you want to harm kids or possibly put kids in

harm way. So, I would just stop there. And I I really do truly hope that um people support this. This is a grotesque bill. This is a wage of war on parents and children's safety in California. That is not anything to be taken lightly. I will never ever stand by and not do something to protect parents rights and protect kids in our district.

So yes, I am hoping that this is supported by our board. Mr. Cruz, do you have your light for a reason? >> A stranger, right? >> And you know, California is so into the gender bending and so a lot of it may have be do the desire of reaffirming a child's identity. So you bring a child, you bring a stranger to emphasize

that they're not a male but a female. That's what I think this is about. That's it. >> Mr. No. >> Yeah. Um I remember about five years ago again the Sacramento was trying to implement new sex ad and very controversial as law says and it's funny all the parents that I spoke to u what Sacramento is doing today all they

do is they give our parents a more stress they don't help us to build family to build education nothing but all they do is they create more problems for all of our children their safety and parental rights. What is mirror with them? I know they're disqualified. Many of them are to be our leaders. I understand that. But now they're crossing the line.

Whatever they're trying to do in their thought trying to fix problems but in return the result is causing more problems for all of us. What is wrong with them? We have done fine without this AB495. We have been protecting our kids. We have been fighting for our parent rights. And here they're trying to cause more problems. If we don't stand up like Pastor Jack

Gibbs, I'm proud of him because he's protecting parental rights. No one's perfect on this earth, but he's trying to protect our parent rights and safety of all the children. We have to stand up and make sure that their mistakes from Sacramento does not come down to Chino Valley. That is a duty that we have. If they make mistakes and and we follow

them and cause more problems for our parents and our children's safety, then it'll be our neglect. So, thank you for all the speakers for supporting or not supporting, but because you do care for our kids, but as a board member, I have to support this resolution. Thank you. All right, there I go. Okay, real quick. Uh, I try to make this short. I mean, we

could there's a lot of things to uh talk about here, but let's just put it like this. I think the most important investment we can make is in our children. I mean, not just our children, for all children. I think that's a given, right? But uh at the same time, the more safeguards we can put, the harder targets we can make our kids, our

schools, those are things that we constantly have to look at and do. And so anytime there's a way around that, it is our obligation, our duty to make sure we're doing everything we can to air on the side of caution, to do what's right, and to make our schools and our children safer. I hope that everybody's in

Outstanding to see that we have a piece of pie here in our in this community. We're we're a a town where we had a bunch of cows and horses and agriculture and a lot of that's

going away. But to see what uh what Don Lugo does to keep that that piece there as a treasure, it's pretty cool to see what they're doing. So again to uh congratulate them and for uh Good Shepard Presbyterian Church, $20,000 to our students, to our hope center, to our Christian clubs. That's awesome because a lot of stuff goes into that. I mean,

food gets bought. there's things that needs to be purchased and that goes a long way. So, we uh we really appreciate that. And then, you know, uh Mr. Phoenix Kim again, welcome to our board and looking forward to having you this year and learning from you just as much as you would learn from us. So, welcome. The littlest things matter and you show me the love you have, the smallest things and I really appreciate it. You know, March 18th, I I had open heart surgery

there. It's uh wasn't an easy decision for him to leave even though his family was out there for a while, his grandkids. um it's great for him. >> on the behalf of our superintendent, I'd like to welcome everyone back to the 2526 school year where we will thrive together. We're already three weeks in and we have so much to celebrate. More than 25,000 students began this school year in a district recognized by our community as Inland's favorite school district and one of only two school

districts in California and 37 school districts internationally being recognized as a model professional learning community school district which means that continuously we have improved student achievement and narrowed achievement gaps for our students every year. And this is a true reflection of the trust and support we've earned together. To our parents and families, thank you for entrusting Chino Valley

with your most precious gift, your children. It is it is our honor and privilege to educate and support them every day. This strong start would not have been possible without the dedication and the teamwork of our entire school district which include our exceptional teachers, amazing classified staff and hardworking administrators. Thank you all for playing an important role in the success of the successful

start successful start of the school year. And finally, I'd like to officially welcome Phoenix Kim, our student board member. here to support your son. Um, it's always amazing when we look out and we see the parents behind the scenes. Um, I know that, you know, Mr. pointed you out, but it's just a true representation of our community, just always being there to support um our our kids so they can succeed at the next level and hopefully um after they, you know, go

off to college, they're doing amazing things in our community. A lot of them, a lot of my class still lives locally, which is a true testament to um Chino Valley, which includes Chino and Chino Hills and a little bit of Ontario, at least for our district. Um I also would like to say to Monroe, my bro, I miss

you wherever you're out there. I know that you'll hear our comments, but man, that was a ride. Um, you know, it was a what, three and a half year um of you being a board member, but even prior to that, just supporting parents and showing up to board meetings alongside us. Um, knowing that you came in as a a

soon to be retired police officer. So, you've always served here. Um, we love you. We miss you. We thank you for your service here. Um, uh, the only thing I'm going to challenge you to is to get involved in your local, um, government over there and make the difference. Take, um, a little bit of the good of

California over to Utah. Um, so, thank you for your service. We love you. We miss you. And, um, please come visit us. I know that you are enjoying the deers and all the beautiful scenery, but please come visit us sometime soon. Um, I just want to thank all of our staff um, CSEA, you know, during the summer

just for keeping the grounds beautiful. that way when school started. I know that you're working hard alongside our staff here at the district office um just to keep things going. We do have a year round school that was um you know back in session before everybody else came back for summer. But thank you for everything that you've done. The schools

um sites look amazing and we just appreciate the hard work that you do. Um I know that you think it's um it goes unnoticed, but man, it does go noticed. And I also like to thank um our cafeteria, everybody who works in the cafeteria to feed our children. Um I've seen on the board agenda a couple times

fresh produce. You're always thinking of ways to make sure um even with some red tape here in California to feed our kids um healthier meals and now our staff um that has a kitchen available to purchase um meals here, you know, during their lunch break um because they love it here so much they don't want to leave the

campus for uh lunch. Um I hope that's the reason. Um, but yes, so thank you guys uh for all that you do too. And thank you to our teachers for preparing the classrooms and getting things ready. So as soon as our kids walked in, you were ready. You greeted them. Um, we appreciate everything that you do continuously to get our kids from A to

Z. I am very proud of our district. Um, like Dr. Park had mentioned. Um, we're in a couple of articles, national articles on how our test scores keep increasing and despite what Sacramento pushes and all the challenges that they push, you guys continue to um, persevere. So, I just want to thank you for doing that. It's it's showing. Um, I

know that we, you know, every school district has um, its daily fires, but just seeing everybody come together as a community to put those out and make sure that we keep moving forward is really amazing. Um, I do sit on the commission for Baldiview, RO O. I have a huge passion if a child um student is not

fouryearbound to um at least get them to know about the pathways that they could take through our district free of charge. Um and usually these kinds of pathways are really expensive after high school. I just want to make um it a public announcement because I'm asking them to come up with creative ways and let our students know as soon as they

hit nth grade and actually even in our junior highs to let them know about these pathways because look not all child all not all students want to go to a four-year and maybe they have something in mind and um you know the a different career path and we have um pathways that will get these kids certificated and into the workforce as

soon as they graduate. So please parents um alongside your students look that up. There's so many possibilities, so many opportunities and pathways that are paid through the district. I just um really do urge you to look through those. I mean, even if your um child wants to do butition or I know we have our, you know, our pathways that help with UPS

and um FedEx um securing jobs through that or any kind of plumbing and things like that. I mean, even law enforcement, anything you can name it, we we can provide a pathway more than likely. So, please take advantage of those. Those are things that I I am very passionate about on making sure our kids get the tools and they're challenged every day

in high school. Um I think I want to um just thank parents. Not thank I do want to take um a time to take uh thank our parents. Thank you for trusting us. Um I know that you know as me as a parent five years ago I grew up in this in this community. I grew up in Chino. I was

born in the Chino hospital who do not deliver babies anymore. Um, but you know, I grew up here and I always wanted to raise my family here. And just um, being able to serve here is a true blessing. I I really do appreciate this opportunity. It does have its challenges, but I wouldn't change it for the world except if it was to make some

other difference that we needed to make because we have red tape everywhere. So, thank you for just coming alongside and putting your trust and reaching out when there's problems and just trusting that we're working with staff to make sure that your kids have every pathway to success. I don't take it lightly. I I work countless hours a day and this is

um you know not a paid position. You do get a small stipen um in comparison to the work that could be put into it. But I I truly appreciate you guys trusting me in this seat to be able to do that. A lot of lies are spread about me and yes it's hurtful. I am human. Um but at the

same token I just want you to know um just watch people's actions and and I wouldn't listen to the words. Just watch what they do. I mean fortunately we have a great board. I'm excited to see who in the community steps up to join us. I am very excited to see um people, you know, apply and hopefully come to get

interviewed and then, you know, we would put our hearts into choosing the best person for the community. Um with that said, I also want to thank our friends at the Presbyterian Church. Um thank you for your donation to help those clubs and also Mary's Manger. um Cervantes and I went there yesterday and we saw the facility and um it was really neat just

to see how they provide necessary needs to um people moms in the community um and give them things and they're begging for people to give it to which is which is amazing. I think you know the more people that find out about the different things including our hope center. If you guys don't know about our hope center

please look it up. It is a um amazing place. I got to visit it um I think it was last year was my last visit. I need to do my visits this year. But um it it's just a beautiful place with people who care and and they care about giving families um resources in times of need. I mean, we all go through challenges in

life, but to know that somebody can come to the hope center and get direction on anything. I mean, pretty much they they supply any direction to any need because there's so many people in our community. I just want to thank you. Um also, with that said, I think that's all I have to say. Boys are boys, girls are girls, God
