that requires public disclosure. Thank you, Reagan. And now for the pledge of allegiance. When we have our birthday boy, Jason, please lead us. Thank you. We wish you a happy birthday. >> We're now on to our recognitions tonight. It's my pleasure to recognize Ayella High School for an exceptional achievement in teaching, learning, and student success. Before I proceed, I

UNKNOWN 0:02:20

just want to also point out something um Miss Yarboy shared with me. The source is um the greatschools.org or and we are proud to announce that Ayella High School came in number one for top rated high schools in the Inland Empire. So, let's give an applause for that. Amazing. And I know they're always in competition with the Huskys. Um number

UNKNOWN 0:02:45

nine for the Huskys, so that's still an incredible accomplishment, but I know they're always friendly competition there. So, there you go. Um, okay. So, Ayala High School has been named a model PLC school, a distinguished recognition awarded to schools that demonstrate a sustained commitment to the professional learning communities at work process and most importantly show clear evidence of

UNKNOWN 0:03:06

improved student learning. Earning this distinction is the result of years of intentional work. model. PLC at work schools demonstrate a strong focus on learning, a collaborative culture, and a collective responsibility and a commitment to achieving meaningful results for students at Ayella High School. This work is reflected in educators coming together to examine student learning, use data to guide

UNKNOWN 0:03:30

instruction, respond to individual needs of students, and continually evaluate how they can improve their practices. It represents a culture in which student success is shared is a shared responsibility and continuous improvement is part of the work each and every single day. This recognition is especially meaningful because becoming a model PLC at work school requires more than demonstrating strong practices.

UNKNOWN 0:03:55

Schools must provide evidence of increased student achievement over multiple years demonstrating that their collaborative efforts are making a measurable difference for students. This achievement is a testament to the leadership, dedication, and collective efforts of the Ayella High School's teachers, staff, and administrators, as well as their shared commitment to ensuring high levels of learning for all students. At this time, I would like to

UNKNOWN 0:04:20

invite Illa High School principal, Mrs. Yaroy, to come forward to accept a certificate on behalf of Iella High School. And we invite any of the members of the Illa High School team who are here this evening to please also join her. I would like to thank the faculty, staff, students students, parents for their commitment to the PLC process and

UNKNOWN 0:05:08

also to thank especially the Chino Valley Unified School District for their continued um support and guidance, especially Dr. Park and her team. We could not have done it without Dr. Park. Dr. Park has been committed to this process, I would say, the last 10 years. She's given it her all and thank you. Thank you. Thank you. We could not

UNKNOWN 0:05:35

have done it without you. Thank you. Teachers have done an amazing job. They're committed to the PLC process. If you ask me what's the secret, it's called collaboration. In today's day and age, you cannot do it without collaborating together and working together. And communication is key. So, it is a collective effort all around Ayala High School's campus. Thank you so much for

UNKNOWN 0:06:02

all your support. >> We would like to present this to you. Congratulations. >> And Dr. Park and the rest of the board and Dr. Anfield, would you please join us for a picture? >> Can I have my team introduce themselves? >> Absolutely, please. We would love to. Trying to save you guys from the spotlight. >> Hi, I'm Dr. Shirley Perez. I'm one of

UNKNOWN 0:06:21

the assistant principles at Ayella. My name is Sinfan uh the Y department chair banks um special ed department um severely handicapped department chair >> and Ketta attendance clerk. >> Can we give them an applause please? Can we give our Bulldogs one more round of applause, please? Roy, you're the captain of the school and everybody in that school, they're

UNKNOWN 0:08:35

all your babies and it's you that has made it so wonderful. Everybody coming together and year after year it's it's always like that. You're the one. So, thank you. Awesome. Now, it's time for one of my favorite parts of the evening, recognizing the exceptional employees who make Chino Valley Unified School District such a special place. Donald, aka Don Davis, is

UNKNOWN 0:09:05

certainly no stranger to board recognition. Many may may remember him from the board meeting following the December 11th, 2023 medical emergency at Don Lugo High School when his calm demeanor, quickly quick thinking, and her her heroic actions, sorry, helped save a life of a student. While that recognition honored one extraordinary moment, tonight we have the privilege of

UNKNOWN 0:09:27

recognizing the career that made the moment possible. A career defined by 19 years of dedicated service to Chino Valley Unified School District. Mr. Davis began his district career in 2007 at Chino Valley uh adult school before joining the district patrol in 2008. In 2009, he became part of the Don Lugo High School community where he faithfully served students, staffs, and

UNKNOWN 0:09:51

families for the next 17 years. During the past six years, he also became a familiar and reassuring presence at the board of education meetings, providing dedicated support and helping ensure a safe, welcoming, and professional environment for board members, district staff, students, and members of the public. At this evening marks At this evening marks Mr. Davis final board of

UNKNOWN 0:10:12

education meeting before his retirement. We want to express our sincere appreciation for the steady presence, professionalism, and the unwavering commitment he has brought to the board over the past six years. While students and staff at Dlugo know him as a trusted protector, the board has come to know him as a dependable professional whose quiet quiet dedication and service never

UNKNOWN 0:10:34

went unnoticed. His willingness to serve, often behind the scenes, helped ensure our meetings were conducted in a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment, allowing the board to focus on the important work of serving our students, families, and community. As Mr. Davis begins his well-earned chapter of retirement, we hope he enjoys plenty of time doing one of the things he loves

UNKNOWN 0:10:55

most, fishing. After nearly two decades of faithfully serving Chino Valley Unified School District, may the years ahead be filled with peaceful mornings on the water, memorable catches, and quality time with the fam, your family and friends. It is a retirement that has truly been earned. Mr. Davis, on behalf of the board of education in Chino Valley Unified School District, thank

UNKNOWN 0:11:18

you so much for your 19 years of dedicated service. Congratulations on your well-deserved retirement and best wishes as you begin this exciting new chapter. Mr. Davis, if you would please join me at the podium so we may present you with the plaque of appreciation for your dedicated service to Chino Valley Unified School District. done a tremendous job. So the bottom of

UNKNOWN 0:11:57

our hearts appeal something short and brief. I will humbly accept this award and recognition from the Chino Valley Unified School District board members and I thank you. I greatly appreciate it. I would like to take I would like to thank the administrators and the security personnel I work with over the years. You were very instrumental in my

UNKNOWN 0:12:30

success as a security officer for CVUSD. I might be retiring. However, my legacy lives on through all the other security officers of CVUSD that's come under my tulage. You know, there's a saying whenever you enter in an environment to leave it better than the way you found it. I think that I might have accomplished that. Once again, thank you

UNKNOWN 0:12:59

very much. If you can give him one more round of applause. We're gonna miss you, Don. First it was Donnie and then Don. I see a trend here. Okay. Um, Ayala, you're more than welcome to stay, but I know you guys have work to do, so feel free. We're now on to comments from our student board representative. Before we

UNKNOWN 0:15:01

begin, I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome our new student student board representative, Malia No, who is joining us for her first meeting this evening. Malia will represent the student voice on our board throughout the school year, and we are very pleased to have her with us. We look forward to hearing her perspective and insights throughout the

UNKNOWN 0:15:18

year. Malia, the floor is all yours. >> Good evening, President Shaw, members of the board, Superintendent Enfield, and distinguished guests. Chino Hills High School had a great summer with many of their groups attending summer sports and leadership camps to prepare for the upcoming year. On August 6th, their ling crew welcomed over 500 students from the class of 2030 with their freshman

UNKNOWN 0:15:44

orientation and tours of campus. The senior class of 2027 hosted a senior sunrise on the first day, welcoming students to come and enjoy the kickoff to their senior year. Students enjoyed music, pictures, and breakfast out at the football field. Donugo High School ASB sent 16 representatives to the California Association of Directors of Activities Summer Leadership Camp at UC

UNKNOWN 0:16:08

Santa Barbara. Students learned trends happening in the student activities world, heard guest speakers, and collaborated andorked with schools throughout California, Nevada, and Kansas. ASB with the entire leadership department did two days of boot camp training to get to know each other and get ready for the week of welcome with their PBIS coordinator. They went over leadership expectations, played games,

UNKNOWN 0:16:32

and started painting to create school spirit and build memories. During registration, students supported administration and worked at a variety of stations. Their week of welcome included a first day of school pep rally where popsicles were provided by ASB at lunch. Club rush happened last week at lunch and they had their first rally on Friday spotlighting fall sports. At the

UNKNOWN 0:16:54

rally, students were able to see the new gym foyer and had a special surprise when Luggo teachers danced with ASB and the dance and cheer squads. The ASB eboard met with their sister schools prior to school starting to collaborate for the new year. The leadership department includes Renaissance and the school culture and pride general leadership class along with ASB to

UNKNOWN 0:17:17

support their one school, one family motto. This week, Don Luga will host their first home football game and back to school night. At Ayala High School, the girls flag football team hosted their second annual grid iron glory tournament. They went 3-0 on the day, beating Elsenor High School, Ramona High School, and Kane Lutheran High School in the black division championship game. IA

UNKNOWN 0:17:41

girls volleyball won their home opener against Sand Deis in three sets. They are hosting their senior sunrise event on campus on Monday and Mrs. Yaro celebrated her birthday on August 12th. Finally, Chino High School had an eventful summer with different summer sports and leadership groups attending camps. The school year was kicked off with senior sunrise and the first day of

UNKNOWN 0:18:03

school PBIS stations such as a mini rally and teaching cowboy country chants to promote our school culture. Students enjoyed reuniting with their peers and getting back into the school spirit. Senior Lua also took place on August 14th with fun games, Hawaiian food, and the movie Moana played. Chaps welcome back staff members with a back to school barbecue. I hope everyone has a good

UNKNOWN 0:18:26

rest of summer and is excited for the new school year. Thank you so much. >> Thank you so much, Malia. >> Next are comments from employee representatives. Do we have William Rener, ACD? >> I'll make it work. Uh, good evening, Chino Valley board, Dr. Enfield, members of the community. For those I've had not the opportunity to meet yet, my name is

UNKNOWN 0:18:54

Dr. William Rener. I'm the new president of Associated Accino Teachers. Um, if you don't know my time that I spent in the district, I was a elementary school teacher at Calero for 10 years teaching third, fourth, and sixth grade. Um, I've served in other various ACT roles, but I'm excited to step in this new one. A little bit about my educational

UNKNOWN 0:19:12

background. I went to Cal State Fullerton for my undergrad, my credential, and my masters in educational leadership. Uh, and then I recently graduated from UCLA with my doctorate of education. I studied uh teachers union members and their organizational behavior in response to schoolboard policy. Um as I begin my term, I want to give the board and the

UNKNOWN 0:19:30

community kind of a sense of what my priorities are. First, I believe us in strong communication and relationships. Our district is at its best when its educators, administrators, board, families, and our communities are united and communicate openly even when we uh openly disagree. As president, I want ACT to be a constructive partner, informed, and a consistent voice in

UNKNOWN 0:19:50

those conversations. And I believe we can be uh uh advocates for our members while also collaboratively working towards our goals. Secondly, I want to strengthen educator voice in our district both in my um uh studies and in my doctorate and uh my experience with ACT. I believe that when people the people who work directly with students every day, it's important to leverage

UNKNOWN 0:20:11

their valuable expertise and to have them share what's working, what's not working, what is working, and how we can do more of that as we uh work together. I want to make sure that our perspectives are heard and then not just during negotiations, but during implementation and as things are developed and changed in our district. Third, I want to focus on students and

UNKNOWN 0:20:30

the conditions that allow educators and uh students to succeed. that includes competitive compensation, strong working conditions. Uh it also makes that uh educators have the staffing, resources, programs, and other things necessary to increasingly meet the diverse needs of our students. Uh in particular, I'm interested in how our special education students perform and our English language learners. Um the range of

UNKNOWN 0:20:53

academic programs is also a great concern to me and I want to broaden those programs and work with the district on doing that. There are certainly going to be things where ACT and the district or the wider community disagree on things. However, I believe that's a natural part of labor management communications, but my commitment is that when disagreements

UNKNOWN 0:21:10

arise that we always approach them pro professionally, respectfully, and directly. Uh I believe being on hard on the issues, but soft on people. At the end of the day, it's important um to a avoid things um that have uh caused snafoos in the past. But I I promise to you and the community today, I will never divulge into personal attacks uh

UNKNOWN 0:21:32

or anything that would impugn your character because I believe that that mutual respect starts with me and I hope to have that reciprocated. Um I hope to build a relationship all of you and um that these conversations can continue. And lastly, like most teachers, I love coffee. So I wanted to extend an opportunity uh to all the board members

UNKNOWN 0:21:50

to meet me for coffee or lunch and get to know you and figure out where we can work together on the issues. I believe when we spend more time figuring out where we align and working together on those things rather than where we differ, we get things done and make our schools better for everyone. Um, I believe our uh our interests overlap and

UNKNOWN 0:22:07

I really want to work towards that as I start my term here. So, thank you very much and have a great evening. >> Thank you, Dr. Rener. Do we have anybody from CSCA? No. And then Annette Hatch from CHAP. Thank you very much. Good evening, President Shaw, Superintendent Enfield, cabinet board members, colleagues, and community members. On behalf of CHAMP,

UNKNOWN 0:22:35

we would like to express our welcome back to school, and we hope that your first two weeks have gone well. Our back to school nights are happening are being hosted throughout the district and we really want to welcome and encourage all families to participate in those back to school nights. It is a great way to learn about the school, to meet the

UNKNOWN 0:22:55

teachers, and to find ways to become involved in the sites. Also, CHAMP is currently hosting our annual membership drive, and we would like to encourage all certificated and classified management professionals to join. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions regarding AXA or CHAMP to one of our CHAMP members. Uh, thank you. >> Awesome. Thank you.

UNKNOWN 0:23:22

We're now on to our comments. Public comments. Reagan, how many requests to speak? >> There are two. >> Thank you. Board bylaw 9323, meeting conduct establishes public comment guidelines in the following process applies. Speakers will be called in the order you registered on the electronic request to speak device. Names are displayed on monitors. Please watch for your name to appear and line up at the

UNKNOWN 0:23:43

designated numbers one through two behind the mic. Once the recording secretary announces the first name, request to speak will no longer be accepted. Additionally, government code 54957.9 authorizes removal of individual or group when meeting is willfully interrupted or and order cannot be restored. Further, penal code 403 states in part, every person who without authority of law willfully disturbs or

UNKNOWN 0:24:07

breaks up any lawful assembly or meeting not unlawful in its character is guilty of a misdemeanor. Mr. Cruz. Speakers, you have three minutes to address the board. You cannot donate your time. One person at the mic at a time. If you read on behalf of an absent person, that will considered your time. Begin comments when the clock starts.

UNKNOWN 0:24:30

The clock begins. The secretary announces your name. Please refer to board policy 1312.1 for the process regarding complaints against an employee. And lastly, speakers may not approach the dis any time the board is in session. Please give any materials you wish distributed to the board to the recording secretary >> Glory Cherelli on a non-aggenda item. I am a graduate of CVUSD Dongo class of

UNKNOWN 0:25:09

2002. I remember that when I was young, if you said a slur against somebody and your parent complained, you got suspended. For that matter, if you were a boy and you sexually harassed a young lady and your parent complained, you probably got suspended, too. Above all, if any of this was done to a teacher or other district personnel, you not only

UNKNOWN 0:25:32

face suspension, you face expulsion. I want to go a step further and point out that in 1998 when Matthew Shepard was murdered because a couple of bad people didn't like that he was gay. It also saw many of us being forced to recognize the dangers faced by the queer community for the first time in that way for that

UNKNOWN 0:25:53

matter. It was the first time I saw such a widespread recognition of that danger and the willingness to at the very least not ask and not tell. What is my point? My point is that issues like book banning and forced outing don't start there. It starts with the relaxation of rules that punish the use of racial slurs, sexual harassment, and

UNKNOWN 0:26:16

bullying/outing of queer students. It goes from students fearing suspension and expulsion to the point where a student will call me the n-word with a smile on their face cuz they know the most they will get is an inschool detention. What's my point to you guys? I'm just asking that going forward in this school year, we start to take issues in

UNKNOWN 0:26:40

communities that we normally don't pay attention to more seriously. I may disagree with just about everything you guys stand for, but I think we can all agree that every student is entitled to dignity and respect, and I think going forward, we should start utilizing that as a school board. Hello. So, my name is Anna Ryball and I

UNKNOWN 0:27:20

was a uh I came I attended all the Chino Valley Unified School District schools. Uh, I graduated from Dongo in 2005, but I had heard something along the lines that um that arena might be ending their contract with CVUSD for the graduations. I don't know how true that is. So, I wanted to like find out how senior

UNKNOWN 0:27:45

parents could go about like like how we could go about getting that taken care of like before graduations come around, especially like if we have family members that come from like far away. >> The board can't respond right now, but when you're done with your public comment, I'll ask to clarify something for you. >> Okay. Thank you.

UNKNOWN 0:28:18

I've seen a post too, Dr. Enfield, in regards to graduations. I already checked with you. I'm also a parent of a senior, but um maybe can you just clarify the process and let people know what they're hearing or seeing is probably inaccurate. >> Yeah, in years past, we would put in a request to um use the arena over in

UNKNOWN 0:28:34

Ontario. And again, in the past, they would uh approve that pretty much right away. We actually had a year or two approval in advance. Now, they have a different process uh that started a couple years ago. And we have to wait until I think it's October or early November when we find out from the arena the dates that we've asked for if those

UNKNOWN 0:28:58

will be accepted. We believe that they will be um and we will be at the arena, but we have to wait for their their approval and and once they give us that information, we move forward, but they're planning as if the graduations are happening at the arena. >> Thank you very much for the clarification. I hope that answers your question.

UNKNOWN 0:29:18

Um okay, now we're on to changes and deletions. Reagan, are there any? >> Yes. The following change is on the agenda. Item 3 C2, revision of board policy 6112, instruction school day. On page 35, second paragraph in the bottom in the sentence remove K8 and in the second sentence add and K8 after elementary. The correct language will

UNKNOWN 0:29:44

reflect normal business hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for junior high schools, high schools, and the district office, and office hours of 7:00 a.m. to 400 p.m. for elementary and K8 schools. There are no further changes or deletions. >> Thank you, Reagan. We're now on to action items 2A1, public hearing and adoption of resolution 2026 2027-18,

UNKNOWN 0:30:09

sufficiency of instructional materials 2026 2027 for Cal Arrow Preserve Academy K through 6 and Legacy Academy K through 6. recommend the board of education conduct a public hearing and adopt resolution 2026 2022-18 sufficiency of instructional materials 2026 2027 for Cal Arrow Preserve Academy K6 through and Legacy Academy K through 6. I now open the public hearing at 6:30

UNKNOWN 0:30:38

p.m. Reagan, do we have any speakers? >> There are none. >> Thank you very much. I now close the public hearing at 6:30 p.m. for the adoption. May I have a motion, please? Thank you, Mr. Cruz. Can I have a second? Thank you, Mr. Smith. And any comments, questions, discussions? Use your monitor. Seeing that there is none, go ahead and

UNKNOWN 0:30:57

register your vote, please. Board members. And preferential. >> Yes. >> Thank you. And the motion passes with a vote of five to zero with preferential voting yes. That concludes action items. Moving to consent. Board members, if you have an item to pull, please indicate so on your monitor. For the consent items, may I have a motion, please.

UNKNOWN 0:31:27

Thank you, Mr. Cervantes, and thank you, Mr. Smith, for your second. Board members, please register your vote. Preferential. >> Yes. >> Thank you. And the motion passes with a vote of five to zero with preferential voting yes. We're now on to information items. Board members, are there any comments or questions? Seeing that there is not any, we're

UNKNOWN 0:31:58

going to board comments. Mr. Smith, mic's on. >> All right, so school is back in session. The uh morning buzz around the house is kicking off. It's not quite as loud as it used to be. Um, but the uh it's still nice to get the morning going with the kids all um moving about and all that. So, it's it's

UNKNOWN 0:32:21

really fun. They're all working very hard. Um already my youngest is still going to Chino Hills High and she is uh yeah, the homework is already dragging her down that with all the color guard stuff. We have some some pretty fun things that we've been working on in the background here and I just wanted to see if we can get a few updates. Uh Dr.

UNKNOWN 0:32:47

Enfield, first off, we there last year I noticed there were some issues in the parking lot and we don't really have a lot of coverage in the parking lot when it comes to the camera safety. There was some uh vandalism that was going on, shenanigans happening in the parking lot. It's a big blind spot for basically all of our high schools. So, we got

UNKNOWN 0:33:08

together and came up with a plan. Dr. Enfield, do you mind giving us an update on that? >> Yeah. So, uh we've started here with Chino Hills High School and we put up some uh cameras at Chino Hills High School um and and to see how those are performing and to look at some of the the blind spots. Um that's the first

UNKNOWN 0:33:27

school that we're testing out. Um there's still some some work that we still want to do with the cameras over there. And then once we fine-tune that and and and feel comfortable with that. We'll continue on looking at all the other high schools as we as we move forward with looking at the cameras at all the high schools in the parking lot

UNKNOWN 0:33:44

because of some of the issues that are happening out there for safety. Fantastic. Thank you. Uh the the other thing is and I don't see our liaison um Andy Roma here from the fire district but he came uh to us a while ago with their they have a defibrillator program that they partner uh with with us on and um Dr. Anthony

UNKNOWN 0:34:07

could you can you give us an update on the defibrillator program that we have a partnership with the fire district. Yeah. So, uh, our director of risk management, I know, uh, Whitney reached out to him. Um, we have a we we do have defibrillators on all of our campuses, but this is a great program for the district because they're looking at

UNKNOWN 0:34:24

donating even more. And I know at our comprehensive high schools, they're always looking to have more of those defibrills uh, available uh, in case of an emergency. And so, uh, risk management has reached out. I believe Mr. Kesler will be working with him because those fall directly under him. But they'll be uh working to add more of

UNKNOWN 0:34:43

those at our school site, which is a bonus for for everybody in case of uh any any serious emergency regarding uh uh the heart attacks. >> Y fantastic. And so we're we're so thankful to the fire district, our partners over there for offering this program to us and um we look forward to working with them. Uh we got a few things going on here. The

UNKNOWN 0:35:05

other one uh Dr. Enfield and I know we've uh talked about quite a bit about this uh is an AI program and AI is upon us all and it's moving very fast. There's a few different things about this. One is uh AI detection. We need to start thinking about AI detection. The other part is that we want these kids to

UNKNOWN 0:35:28

start learning how to work with AI and not for AI. Um, so we want these kids to know what a a large language model is. You know, what are parameters, what what's a context context window, all these kind of different terms that are associated with AI and how to work with it. So, we've been talking about um the

UNKNOWN 0:35:51

possibility and there's programs already out there, right? So, what are some of our ideas here? Well, we've already had conversations in cabinet with CIS and so CIS is looking into the exact courses that would align with uh with the type of AI program that we're looking at uh that you that you're that you've brought forward and I know a number of kids

UNKNOWN 0:36:15

would be very interested in it. And so CIS has that charge and there's a process that they need to go through. Um, and they will be going through the development of a course and then it has to be approved for the UC and the uh the Cal State pathways for all of our courses. And so they're they're they're

UNKNOWN 0:36:32

they've just started the work on that, but any work that's done on that would be for the 2027 28 school year. So so we're looking at moving that forward. >> Understood. Yeah, we have a we have a fantastic network here. Not not a lot of people know that. Um I think wasn't that one of the things that Andrew Black

UNKNOWN 0:36:49

built was the uh the fiber between all the schools. >> Yeah. Yes. >> Yeah. It's a nice 10 gig fiber line. So should should run pretty well. Another exciting um program that we are are working on is an auto shop program. This is some I was pretty excited about this myself. I loved autoshop as a kid and I

UNKNOWN 0:37:12

was disappointed that we got rid of an autoshop that we had here many years ago. So what what are we doing on that front? >> Yeah. And so um looking at that program, I went over and and talked with Heather Post, our principal of the adult school and because they have a number of different programs out there for our our

UNKNOWN 0:37:30

community and for our students. And so she was extremely excited about that. And so, uh, we're looking and we're at the very very very early early early stages of that. But, uh, we're looking at potentially creating that that autoshop there. She's already reached out to Chaffi College to partner with us as part of that process. And actually,

UNKNOWN 0:37:50

Chaffi College was extremely excited to hear that news um because they were actually looking to um like have a partner on this side of San Bernardino County uh that that would be interested in that. And so, we're uh I know Dr. Freed here is going to be meeting uh with with with with Heather Post and and with uh Chaffy and we'll start to look

UNKNOWN 0:38:10

at that process. There looks like there's funding for it um that we will be able to to move forward with it and and for us this is actually a uh u something I I think everybody should be excited for because not only can our students from all the high schools attend this um these would be courses that are that are college approved

UNKNOWN 0:38:30

already. So you get the dual enrollment credits for that. Uh, and the other part is they learn a trade straight out of high school. So, if they come out of that, but it's also open for all of our community members. So, anybody in the community who wants to take courses with it can also sign up with that. We have

UNKNOWN 0:38:46

an HVAC program. We have a construction pathway um over at our adult school. Um, and so it's just another pathway for our students and for the community. Yeah, I think we've all experienced uh taking our vehicles into the auto shop only to learn that we're paying a doctor lawyer wages for uh to you know have your timing belt changed or something like

UNKNOWN 0:39:08

that. So exciting stuff and um that's that's good that you know we're going to be covering the entire spectrum here in terms of the uh the educational spectrum which brings me to the last item is the um I think we finally got after all this time the last pieces for our uh screen time educational program for parents. So, we're going to

UNKNOWN 0:39:32

be releasing some videos in terms of teaching parents how to enable screen time for their kids at in the school district. Our our teachers have prerogative to, you know, uh that the phones get put away. The teachers can say, "Hey, phones away." And the kids aren't allowed to look at the phones. They're >> Yeah. No phones. No phones. That's

UNKNOWN 0:39:56

right. No phones in the No phones in the classroom. That's right. Um, what about outside the classroom? We all know the damage that could be done. There's plenty of studies about excessive screen time and all of the negative effects of that. So, we're working on um not just the kids, but also helping parents at home with their kids as well. We'll be

UNKNOWN 0:40:17

releasing that uh shortly. So, with that um being said, thank you everyone. Thank you to the community. Thank you for the kids and our teachers. Will, welcome. Good to see you. Um and uh again thanks everyone >> do one more time mic's on. Yeah. Um, I'd like to thank again Mr. Don Davis for many years of service at Dan Lugo High

UNKNOWN 0:41:06

School. Uh I remember I have been your psychic help when um you were guarding those parking lots and it seems like it's been yesterday but it's been many years that you have given all your life practically while raising your kids. You raised thousands of our kids at Danugo High School. So, thank you. I'd like to also thank

UNKNOWN 0:41:44

Mr. Rener, our uh UAT president, who came to me and and uh introduced yourself to me. Um, and I see a great hope in your leadership. I understand you have a admin credential as well uh that proves that uh you've been built for this position and I share with my thoughts that our board has is here to serve our students

UNKNOWN 0:42:25

and that is our priority and you agreed with me. So thank you and I had given you my personal cell phone number. So you are always welcome to contact me at any time. So thank you for your willingness to step up with your leadership uh to represent our teacher uh group here. Thank you. I'd like to thank Malia

UNKNOWN 0:42:59

know your first day uh serving as a student rep. I know you will become great uh nurse as you plan your planning today. Um because once you set up a goal you're halfway there. Once you set up a target, you're halfway there. So, um, thank you for preparing your future ahead of time and, uh, never, uh, diverting from it. Just keep on the

UNKNOWN 0:43:39

track and you will get there. I would also like to thank uh, our former student from Ayala High School. I just met few days ago at one of these restaurants. Uh her name was Cindy and she had graduated from our high school three years ago and and she's working I guess almost like three four days a week and still

UNKNOWN 0:44:13

going to school college to pursue her dreams. Her dreams are might be difficult because you might have to spend all these long hours daytime and and long time at night time. But I know she will never give up because she's one of us. She represent the dreams not for just for herself but for her family. It was dream of her brother. It was

UNKNOWN 0:44:59

dream of her mom and her dad. So I did tell her we're still here, the CBUSD family members to support her any way we can. She might even finish her degree and come to our district to work. There's challenges, but there are doors that are waiting for her as long as she's willing to do it. When I met Mr. Don Davis

UNKNOWN 0:45:47

her his kids were still young and my kids were still young but we didn't know that we'll be here together witnessing his retirement day how fast the times could go by but it does happen but here's the one thing we're in this business as Mr. Smith Sean Smith was saying that only thing that he could think of

UNKNOWN 0:46:23

after being becoming a schoolboard member is about students and their programs and it's such a good feeling and I know Mr. Rener is in his 30s and we're already old, but that kept us young, at least on in our minds because we're working for our children. So, thank you for all the teachers and all the staff members uh working in this hot days

UNKNOWN 0:47:01

during the summer and just make sure that um we stay uh in cool places and also the kids will stay in uh cool classrooms during the hot days. Thank you. Thank you, Mr. Naw. And now, Mr. Cervantes or Mr. Cruz, sorry. >> Button. Hey, wait, wait. You have to press your button. >> Let's We'll go to the Riverside Grill

UNKNOWN 0:47:38

and have coffee. I think it it could have happened, right? Three years ago. Did you ask that before? Three years ago. I think so. And somebody shut me down. And literally somebody told me in in your reunion said I wasn't able to or something something happened. But you you know something I've been in education almost 28 years.

UNKNOWN 0:47:59

I've always supported I've always supported teachers all my life. You know I started two weeks ago and it's been it's been really hectic. But I serve I serve my my district. I serve my teachers. It's amazing the teachers that I work with and it could be anywhere. It's amazing because they're they're so different and maybe it has a

UNKNOWN 0:48:22

lot to do being around children and they're youthful and it's I I enjoy it. I I really enjoy it enjoy it. So yeah, let's have coffee and um like I said, I've always supported even though we may have views that who knows could be different here and there, I've always focused that teachers make a big difference when it comes to children.

UNKNOWN 0:48:44

my elementary teacher made a difference in my life. So, just by hearing you talk and the way you come across and your language and your behavior, I could tell we're going to have a great moment. So, I'm really fortunate that you're here and hopefully for the best that things get really amazing, you know, that things flow. So, thank you,

UNKNOWN 0:49:09

Dr. Rener. Thank you. You know, last month, you know, the Senate held a hearing on Dr. Fauci's senator. We released more than a thousand pages of his diary. Those notes contradicted what the public was told about the six-foot rule, school closures, and the virus origins. When asked to explain under oath, you know, obviously he took the fifth amendment.

UNKNOWN 0:49:33

If officials can say one thing publicly and another privately, how can parents trust every mandate placed on our children? California remove personal belief exemptions. Families who want their children in schools have have almost no choice. Autism rates here have risen sharply 1 to 12.5. You know, parents have the right to decide, you know, medical interventions for their own children. My niece chose

UNKNOWN 0:50:01

not to vaccinate her child. after her own research. You know, as a board, you know, I stand with every family that wants the same freedom. And if we can't trust what our elected officials or or or people that we trust, we have to respect the authority of the parents. I think maybe maybe someday as a board that we

UNKNOWN 0:50:25

would think real hard and that is that maybe parents have a choice whether they want to vaccinate their children or or not because you can't trust you cannot trust these people. So as a board maybe we should consider maybe next year that parents have a choice. Thank you. >> Thank you Mr. Cruz. And then now Mr. Cervantes

UNKNOWN 0:50:50

Mike's son. >> Good evening everybody and welcome. Uh look really good to see everybody and welcome back to the school year. First like to start off by thanking our incredible teachers for doing such an incredible job to make sure their kids are squared away in their classrooms. It's a lot of work with you know hard to figure out how many desks you're going

UNKNOWN 0:51:10

to need. You have a little bit of overflow and that gets adjusted, but it's chaotic and you guys have a smile on your face and you're doing a a work that is just unbelievable. We thank you for that. And you know, the support staff, every school from uh the student all the way up to the principles. We thank you for your

UNKNOWN 0:51:30

diligent work. Again, I want to uh thank you Yala High School. What an incredible job to be a model PLC what it takes just if you know the commitment that it takes the collaboration the expectations having to meet those requirements it's not easy so again thank you so much for uh for doing that hard work and and

UNKNOWN 0:51:51

shining like that you know uh Don Davis man I can't believe it 2007 I remember that like it was yesterday uh uh when you walked on and you were excited about doing the job you know, and back in the day when we actually uh would run after somebody, we could actually catch them. Right now, uh it's a little bit harder, but my

UNKNOWN 0:52:12

goodness, uh those were good times. And uh congratulations on your retirement. It's been uh it's been an honor to to work with you back then and now as as as a board member. It's so awesome, so appreciate it. And it's an honor, sir. And uh just wish you nothing but the best. And uh Malia, welcome. It's uh great to

UNKNOWN 0:52:34

uh see you here and looking forward to getting to know you more and hopefully uh not only as you learn things from us, but we're looking forward to learning so much from you and what's going on in our campuses and what kids are really looking for and what their needs might be at that level. So, we appreciate it.

UNKNOWN 0:52:54

So, welcome. Um regarding uh the school year, a lot of lot of important things are coming up. One of those things that are coming up is the parent information form that our incredible uh Chino Police are probably putting on. They do a fantastic job there. Every parent I you know there's not a lot of people in here right now.

UNKNOWN 0:53:14

Those that are here, thank you for being here to get this information. Hopefully maybe you could pass along to to family members, especially junior high and our high school parents. You really need to get this information. There's so much out there with technology with cell phones. They're constantly increasing and there's a lot of dangers out there that

UNKNOWN 0:53:33

as a parent, you know, you just you just want to you want to come in and work and provide and make sure you have the best for your kids and give them cell phones for safety to contact you. But there's so much more that these cell phones have, the technology them that you as a parent need to know. There's hidden

UNKNOWN 0:53:48

dangers. A lot of times we think that our phone is for us to reach out to somebody and contact somebody for, you know, an emergency, whatever. But you got to consider who's reaching out to your kid. And there's so many things that our incredible officers are going to talk to you about. So I please uh hope that you take the time to be there.

UNKNOWN 0:54:08

U Dr. Rener, it's so good to see you here in this position in this role. Uh had an incredible cup of coffee with you about a year or so ago and and gosh, now that Andrew offered, heck, let's have him buy us a cup of coffee. I'll meet you guys down there, too. So I look forward to having another one. But

UNKNOWN 0:54:26

so looking forward to the dignity and respect that you bring and that you're looking forward to continue to bring and the partnerships that you want to build because that's what we're all about. You know, a lot of times I think things get a little mixed up. You know, I think we have we do have to focus on those common

UNKNOWN 0:54:40

goals because there's so much that we could do for our kids and I think we want to be the best in education. We want to provide all those needs and resources and gosh looking forward to the to the trades and hearing about the incredible opportunities for kids to get involved in auto shop and other things because not everybody's going to go to

UNKNOWN 0:54:57

college and so we want to be able to provide those things. So looking forward to doing all that and uh so again back on that parent forum it's at Chino High School next Wednesday from uh 6:30 to 8:30 or so. Get there a little early. I think they're also providing uh some special things for you ahead of time if

UNKNOWN 0:55:15

you get there. I won't tell you what that is. You just have to show up early. But again, thank you guys. Welcome back. Appreciate you. >> Thank you. And Dr. Anfield. >> Sorry, Mr. Davis. I want to um thank you for all your years of service and especially the work that you've done here at the board meeting. Uh, and I

UNKNOWN 0:55:36

know people don't see all the work that goes on behind the scenes, but thank you uh, for taking care of all of us and taking care of the safety of everybody up here. I truly do appreciate that work and I wish you the best in your retirement. So again, thank you. I also want to u thank the classified

UNKNOWN 0:55:53

staff, the certificated and management staff across the district. They always do an excellent job in our district of getting the schools ready after the school year ends and preparing them for the start of the school year. And they do a phenomenal job in our school district always starting off a very smooth start to the school year, which

UNKNOWN 0:56:12

it was this year. Uh and again that's because of all the work that goes on behind the scenes with our classified staff, our management, and our certificated teachers that they put in to make sure that everything goes goes according to plan here across this district. And so again, thank you everybody for that smooth start. Additionally, I want to thank the city

UNKNOWN 0:56:32

of uh Chino Hills for their support with Ayala. Um I understand it it's uh construction. It's like when I'm you you renovate your kitchen, you you there's a little bit of pain in that um because you're doing construction and renovating in your house. Um and so I know there is some uh always a little bit of difficulty with that. But we started

UNKNOWN 0:56:56

that project the day school ended in May. They were at that site tearing up the asphalt, getting things ready and trying to move that parking lot as fast as they can forward. And they've done a a really really good job with that. But it takes time to get that whole project and and they're they're doing a good job

UNKNOWN 0:57:12

of keeping that project on track. But again, the help of the city to work with us to come up with a plan. Um it's may not be the perfect plan. Um but we using resources across and people helping out. Um it it it's it's been a um it's been nice that the city has worked with us to

UNKNOWN 0:57:33

come up with a uh some plan for the inconvenience, but it's a short time inconvenience. And again, I want to thank the staff in our district who's worked on on everything over at Ayala to help with that situation. Um, also the um I just want to touch a little bit on this uh Mr. Smith with the uh uh with

UNKNOWN 0:57:54

the auto shop. Uh again, I think it's a great uh project to really look at uh because I look for our students across the district to be able um to access that and to be able to use it. Uh when I was in Baldwin Park, uh we started one at our uh at the adult school and they

UNKNOWN 0:58:12

did a phenomenal job with that. They partnered up uh with Toyota and I know you've reached out to Chevrolet to partner with them here in our in our city uh regarding that. U but it was a huge benefit to our students and to the community in Baldwin Park and I see that benefit to be able to bring that here

UNKNOWN 0:58:31

and so uh again uh thank you for bringing that idea forward. And with that, those are all my comments for tonight. Thank you. >> Awesome. Thank you, Dr. Enfield. Um to Dawn, thank you for everything. Thank you for your service. Um don't forget to put the bread with the garlic powder when you're fishing for the catfish. You

UNKNOWN 0:58:49

can get some fish this big. I promise I could show you some pictures. Um so have fun, enjoy. We're going to miss you deeply and dearly. So, um I do appreciate that. And um Dr. Rener, I do appreciate you coming and extending the olive branch. I remember not too long ago you sat in the front row holding a

UNKNOWN 0:59:05

book so I could see it. Um, we'll keep the title, you know, out of this, but I really do hope you're you mean it wholeheartedly that you're wanting to come in here and lead with integrity and openness to really discuss things even when they get hard. Um, I really would like to see the frivolous per cases go

UNKNOWN 0:59:21

away. Um, our flag policy and our parent notification policy, those were put in place. You can clearly see the community had voted for these members over and over over the last two elections because we want classrooms to be neutral and we we would love to have someone who is actually going to lead our good teachers and be the representative of all of

UNKNOWN 0:59:40

them, not just a small loud group that wants to bring up frivolous things. So, I know I'm out of here soon, but I still have an influence on the parent groups. And I would still extend the olive branch back to you for a cup of coffee. Can't have more than two. So, looks like it's oneon-one or me and Mr. Smith and

UNKNOWN 0:59:56

and again that invitation is open. I really do hope that we can put that all aside and move forward and focus on academics. So, thank you for that. And um other than that, I you guys might see some headlines in the paper here if you haven't already. Unfortunately, a lot of times when we get these frivolous claims

UNKNOWN 1:00:14

and lawsuits and you know, investigations, it's through the media that we hear it from. I was contacted two days ago from multidia sources uh talking about do I want to make a comment on a investigation that's being opened on us and I was like what investigation clearly I made a phone call to Dr. Enfield. He didn't hear

UNKNOWN 1:00:33

anything. He didn't get anything until what, late last night after stories were already running all over newspapers, including LA Times. Um, apparently because of book removal, and I'll say that very lightly because I don't even know exactly what the details are. I have no clue about these book titles other than what I've seen in the articles. Again, we barely got the

UNKNOWN 1:00:56

official complaint from um the CDE last night, actually accepting it, which I think is really bogus and and bizarre that they're coming after us for these books. I went on LA Times because they asked me for a comment and I saw five titles. I went to go look up to see what these five titles are because again,

UNKNOWN 1:01:15

this is the first I'm hearing of it. The board never did anything with those books. Um, and I look up those titles and I clearly see some very sexually explicit books. I mean, I I would love to read them out loud, but I can't even read them out loud because I know students are in my presence and I know

UNKNOWN 1:01:32

students watch our board meetings. They're that egregious. So, I'm glad that they actually put the titles. I just hope the community goes and looks those up and sees that those books are clearly probably I don't even know if they've been removed by staff because we haven't even had a chance to investigate. Correct, Dr. Enfield? So, I don't know why or if they were removed,

UNKNOWN 1:01:50

but again, this is just a claim. And here we go with more staff time. Probably another lawsuit in the CDA now harassing us um for removing apparently removing, which I'm going to say allegedly removing egregious, nasty, sexually explicit books that I couldn't even feel comfortable reading in front of a room full of adults. When is this going to stop, guys? And then the

UNKNOWN 1:02:13

headlines are Shaw remove this that and then my opponent in a race that shouldn't even matter who works for the CDE by the way $16,000 a month is commenting in there. So I just say obviously it's political mudslinging they're coming after the district unfortunately they're getting tied up into it. And if I read these things outline I actually asked the editors of

UNKNOWN 1:02:34

of uh Daily Bulletin and LA Times why don't you post what these books are? Why don't you here I'll give you some of the stuff that I found in these books. Why don't you post it? Oh, I don't think we can. No kidding. These things belong in an adult bookstore, not in the hands of kids. And here we are potentially now

UNKNOWN 1:02:50

with another lawsuit having to get lawyers involved and then they blame it on us for having to spend this much money on lawsuits and lawyers. Make it make sense. I really hope parents pay attention. I mean, the things that I see on our community sites, it's absolutely bizarre. We have like a running joke. Just blame it on Shaw. I don't know what

UNKNOWN 1:03:09

you guys are going to do in two months if this board continues on the same pathway which I believe they are. Who are you going to blame it on? Shaw maybe because my husband who knows I don't know. With all that to say, can this stop please? Like so what? You don't like me? I'm not going to let sexually

UNKNOWN 1:03:27

explicit books in the hands of kids. I am so grateful if I find out our librarians remove these books on their own because that they have the authority to remove stuff. I'm gonna make sure before I leave that we award those schools that remove the sexually explicit books because they did what they were supposed to do. So, thank

UNKNOWN 1:03:45

you if you did that. You have my support. You're amazing. And again, can we just please pay attention and start putting pressure back on these people who are causing problems and unnecessary drama and taking away from the resources in our classroom? I could tell you without really telling you yet, there is so many things they're doing dirty

UNKNOWN 1:04:06

behind the scenes to harm our district because we've taken stand. This is insane. We're not going to stop. You still have a board majority regardless of me being in the seat. You have four guys, potentially three depending on what happens, but that's still a majority. >> So, what is it? Well, I'm just saying because don't worry, I'll be on that side defending

UNKNOWN 1:04:30

you. But at the same token, focusing on academics, reading, writing, and math, making sure pathways are here for our kids. I sit as a commissioner at Baldy View Technical Career. Look at our board members are looking for pathways for our students and even for our community with adult school that can be offered to anybody. These are the things

UNKNOWN 1:04:49

that we want to focus on. We're top 25 in the in California for unified school districts, are we not? Did you know that our standards are higher than California's graduating standards? I bet most of you didn't know that. So, while we're being compared to other districts and our test scores are still higher and our um graduating uh you know, numbers

UNKNOWN 1:05:10

are still higher. Well, guess what? So are our standards. California doesn't even need a GPA of anything to graduate the kids. Did you know that we at least require 2.0 because we want kids to actually meet and understand and meet certain standards and requirements to move on before they become an adult. Did you know that California only requires a

UNKNOWN 1:05:34

few years? What is it? Two years of math. We require three. What about English, Dr. Enfield? >> Four years. >> We require four. I'm just letting him say it because these are things that they've worked hard to make sure our kids meet these standards, but they also raise the bar and they help them in between. When we graduate kids, you probably will

UNKNOWN 1:05:53

never ever hear anybody say they've met California standards because we've exceeded California standards. We don't set the bar down here. We put it up here and we make sure we pull the kids up and give them the resources to get up here because when our kids go out into the community, they're doing great things. They're not struggling. They're

UNKNOWN 1:06:12

not part of what's happening in our universities. You guys hear what's happening, right? California students are going to these prestigious universities and the professors are screaming at the rooftops, these kids can't read. They need remedial math. I am grateful Chino is not Chino Valley is not part of that. We have great teachers we want to continue to support.

UNKNOWN 1:06:35

We want the resources to go in the classroom. We don't want them in the frivolous lawsuits. But I will guarantee this board at least for a few more years at least and I will work hard as long as I'm here to make sure and ensure we have a board that does so focuses on reading, writing, math, pathways to success after

UNKNOWN 1:06:52

high school. No sexually explicit books. Classrooms are neutral. If you don't like it, go to another district. LA is not too far. I mean, I hate that those kids are suffering, but our district's not going to tolerate it. So my message to the community is keep showing up. Keep holding these people accountable, but do not believe the

UNKNOWN 1:07:13

headlines. These books, if they were removed by an adult because they were sexually egregious, I am so grateful that we have great adults preventing kids from reading that nasty, disgusting things that I can't even read to you as adults. All that to say, keep fighting the good fight. I'm sorry you guys have to endure attacks because unfortunately people hate what I

UNKNOWN 1:07:36

stand for. But hopefully that'll end soon for you guys. And at the end of the day, I just say keep fighting the good fight. Our kids are worth it. Chino Valley is a blueprint. We know that that blueprint needs to go throughout California and it will. Mark my words. It's just a matter of time. I will now

UNKNOWN 1:07:52

adjourn the board of education meeting at 7:07 p.m.
