board met in closed session from 4 55 pm to 5 37 PM regarding a student discipline matter conference with Labor negotiators Act and CSEA Public Employee appointment Junior High School principal and assistant principal and public employee performance evaluation superintendent the board took the following action appointed Adrian Chase as principal at preserve two K-8 school effective July 1

2023 by unanimous vote of 5-0 with Bridge Cruise Monroe Na and Shaw voting yes no further action was taken which requires public disclosure foreign thank you Pat we're now on to the Pledge of Allegiance and tonight leading the Pledge of Allegiance is Mr Bridge and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with

liberty and justice for all thank you Mr Bridge next I would like to invite hidden Trails Elementary School principal Lisa sura and anybody else to the podium please if they came with you as many of you know the California distinguished schools program recognizes public schools for excellence in closing the achievement Gap and achieving outstanding student performance this

year our very own hidden Trails Elementary School achieved this honor and I had the honor of canvassing your campus and I was truly impressed and I feel like instead of hidden trails that should be Hidden Gem because it's definitely a Hidden Gem up there you guys are exceptional and you go above and beyond and it's definitely noticed

by not only people in California but by us as well so thank you for all that you do Mrs Surah can you please share with us anything that you would like to tell us about your team and the honor to achieve this honor um I have just the most amazing team um the adage that it takes ability is

truly um it's true when it comes to schools and schools being able to be impactful and doing well it's a combination of my staff who worked very hard and just loves children there's not one person on my staff that I could say doesn't have a child's best interest in mind and our parents our families our school board for making decisions that allow us

to do the things that we need to do to further improve student academic achievement our cabinet Dr Enfield Dr Park this is fellows this is Chad Mr statura and everybody for making the great decisions that they make for our school that allowed us that despite the pandemic our students not not only did we mitigate learning loss but our

students Increase five percent in and in math so we just appreciate that we were given the opportunity to do that that schools are able to come back on campus and do the things that we needed to do to provide the best possible opportunities for our students so thank you to everybody appreciate you would like to present this to you thank you thank you and

thank you I just want to personally thank Mrs Shaw because she reached out to me and invited our school to be here and I just really appreciate the opportunity for that and and just the recognition she sent me many wonderful emails just you know um making um good things about our school make you know helping us lift our spirits and you

know just continuing to motivate us to work even harder than we already are so thank you very much yes thank you okay and thank you for coming thank you thank you thank you okay thank you and I wasn't sure if Mrs Chase was going to be in the audience but we are is so excited about the new news tonight and I

would love to have you at the podium as well and and you can tell us some exciting news too good evening board cabinet I'm actually very excited because my Spanish teacher from Chino High School is sitting in the audience today I am my husband and I are both homegrown um Chino Valley Unified School District students and it has I

remember when I was a teacher at Keller talking about opening a second School in The Preserve as a junior high teacher thinking that would be amazing I wonder if I can get myself to that point to be a principal by the time they open this new school so I spent three years at Lytle and as assistant principal and I'm

on my third year at glenweed and it this is surreal for me to be able to be handed a school that I am so excited a K-8 you know I'm a junior high teacher so to do this is amazing it is absolutely a once in a lifetime opportunity and I'm so excited to work with the board and cabinet and the

community to put together an amazing school to start in the 24-25 school year so very excited thank you so much for putting all of your trust in me yes thank you for speaking last minute but we definitely appreciate you we know you're the right person and we're excited to see that school grow thank you foreign Chase yeah

um thank you for stepping up and and I had seen you for so many years uh back in when you were a teacher and I knew it that you've become a great leader and I had told you the soul and thank you for being a blessing for our students and our our teachers and and your love for

our staff members so appreciate you and and there's anything that you would need from our our wonderful uh cabinet members they're in a uh just phone away and this work even harder to uh to make sure our children's get the best education they deserve thank you so much thank you Mr Knott thank you I think Mr Cruz wanted to say something and your

teachers at glenmead they're gonna miss you so you're not thrilled so um don't forget their pizza party no I love that stuff there they're okay thank you very much thank you okay we're now on to our staff report Mrs Leah fellows good evening president Shaw board superintendent Enfield cabinet and Community tonight we are presenting on the local control and accountability

plan or lcap for short annual update part 2. the presentation includes the achieved annual measurable outcomes for the district's El Cap goal 2 and the results that will be reported to the California dashboard on the like local climate survey and the parent and family engagement reflection tool as a reminder the district has four lcap goals and have set expected annual

measurable objectives to monitor progress toward those goals progress must be based on identified metrics which may be quantitative or qualitative Additionally the district goals are tied specifically to one or more of the required eight state California priorities the district goals are all students are provided a high quality teaching and learning environment students parents families and staff are

connected and engaged to their school to ensure Student Success all students are prepared for College and Career beyond graduation and for targeted assistance students at schools targeted for assistance are prepared for College and Career beyond graduation through a clear system of support and now I would like to introduce Dr Stacy Ayers the director of access inequity foreign

the two local metrics that we will be discussing tonight are the parent and family engagement indicator and the local climate survey indicator as a reminder these two local metrics are reported publicly on the California dashboard these metrics for goal 2 are considered local metrics and are reported as met not met or not met for two years we have met the criteria for

both of these local indicators goal 2 States students parents families and staff are connected and engaged to their school to ensure Student Success here are the state and local metrics that we use to measure progress towards meeting this goal too the first box is reporting on our 2122 California healthy kids survey this survey is provided every other year to

our 5th 7th 9th and 11th graders and we have met this criteria we have met the graduation rate for the 21-22 school year and we are reporting at 94.06 percent which is high on the dashboard we are making progress towards our desired outcome for year-end attendance chronic absenteeism rate suspension and expulsion which were all impacted by the

pandemic we are making progress towards meeting the expected dropout rate for junior high we are currently meeting our desired outcome but for high school we are at five percent and striving for a desired outcome of four percent we met the local climate survey and the state reflection tool for parent engagement which we will now discuss those two areas in more detail

I would now like to introduce Dr Katrina Gomez our director of Health Services who will share highlights from the healthy kids survey as it relates to our lcap the California healthy kids survey is administered every other year to 5th 7th 9th and 11th graders and the K-12 Insight survey is administered every year to 6th through 12th graders the

results from these surveys are used as metrics to measure our students feelings of safety connectedness and vaping use these feelings these percentages reflect the most recent results from the California healthy kids survey administered during the 21-22 school year and as we know this was the first school year students returned to full in-person learning you'll also see that the percentages

increase the following 22-23 school year based on the most recent K-12 Insight survey student responses to ensure continuous support and Improvement in these areas we gathered input from students through the superintendent student advisory Council and high school lcap engagement meetings as well as parent and guardian feedback through lcap meetings this feedback reveals a need to increase access and

awareness to mental health supports and services for our students as a result our district has increased its efforts to support student connectedness and engagement these efforts include continuing and strengthening implementation of PBIS district-wide as well as expanding our District's mtssb program by hiring additional intervention counselors placing a full-time counselor at each School site in addition all School sites develop and

monitor a PBIS smart goal each school year which focuses on the specific needs of each site and at the beginning of this school year our district launched a new web page which is our One-Stop shop of various resources including mental health and safety resources this webpage is advertised regularly through our social media student emails and accessible to our community Through

The District website all school websites and on classlink for students and the next part of this presentation Dr Stacy Ayers will finish sharing the highlight of the actions services and outcomes specific to engaging our families the K-12 Insight survey was distributed to our students families and staff here you are seeing the overall survey results for the parents and Guardians

the survey identified the following Dimensions as keys to building positive School climate which is an essential component of a successful and effective schools since the first administration of the survey in 1718 school year the district continues to show growth in favorable responses in many dimensions here you see the percentage of families who agreed or strongly agreed with the

questions that were asked in each dimension for academic support you see that we grew from 75 percent in 1718 to 78 percent in student supports we were at 77 percent in 1718 we took a dip in 2021 and we are back on the rise again with 72 percent for family involvement we have seen a steady incline from 73 percent to 84

percent for communication you also see a steady incline from 72 percent to 80 percent for safety and behavior you see an increase in 1718 at 72 percent to 77 percent in 2022. for school leadership this is a newer Dimension that was added and you can see significant growth from 21 from 73 percent to 83 percent currently for our local indicators we use the

family involvement Dimension to help us as we complete the parent and family engagement reflection tool that is part of the California dashboard this self-reflection tool is organized into three sections and the districts across the state of California are asked to complete it annually each section includes promising practices in family engagement number one building relationships between School staff and families number two

building Partnerships for student outcomes and number three seeking input for decision making this year the team that did this reflection and ranking were educational Partners who participate in the community engagement initiative this diverse group is composed of parents Community Partners staff from The Hope Center site principals assistant principals a site Community liaison a district liaison our family engagement

coordinator and myself from access inequity the community engagement initiative has been established for the purpose of building capacity in communities and school districts to facilitate difficult conversations that focus on improving outcomes for students and identifying effective models for Community engagement and metrics for those models the CEI team here in CVUSD continually evaluates our parent engagement programs district-wide

based on the analysis of the data from the survey the district determines the current stage of implementation of practices within the three categories on the parent and family engagement reflection tool the team used this rating skill as set forth by the state to rank our status of implementation a one would be an area that the district has not started

implementation yet a 2 would be securing and developing support needed to a new approach or practice three would mean that this was the first use of a new action and maybe the first year of implementation a four ranking means full implementation this means skillful use of a practice that is well integrated into the repertoire of some of the staff and is

routinely and effectively supported by District Insight administrators a five means full implementation and sustainability this occurs when most of the organ organization is implementing the action and its sustainable regardless of the leadership that is in charge in order to determine these rankings the CEI team looked at the corresponding K-12 Insight survey data and analyze the strengths and future opportunities of

each activity to come up with the following rankings foreign the first set of activities relate to building relations between staff and Families these are the ratings that will be reported in the following areas on the dashboard progress in developing the capacity of staff to build trusting and respectful relationships with families four progress in creating welcoming environments for All Families 4.

progress in supporting staff to learn about each family's strengths cultures languages and goals for their children four progress in developing multiple opportunities to engage in two-way communication between families and Educators using language that is understandable and accessible to families for the next set of activities relate to building Partnerships for student outcomes progress in providing professional learning and support to improve a

school's capacity to partner with families four progress in providing families with information and resources to support students Learning and Development at home five progress in implementing policies or programs for teachers to meet with families and students to discuss student progress and ways to work together to support improved student outcomes four progress in supporting families to understand and exercise their legal

rights and advocate for their own students and all students for the final section relates to seeking input for decision making progress building the capacity and supporting principals and staff to effectively gauge in family and advisory groups and with decision making for progress in building capacity of and supporting family members to effectively engage in advisory groups and decision

making for progress in providing all families with opportunities to provide input on policies and programs and implementing strategies to reach and seek input from any underrepresented groups in the school Community four progress in providing opportunities to have families teachers principals and District administrators work together to plan Implement and evaluate family engagement activities at school and District levels five

thank you for this opportunity to present on our two local indicators that support goal 2 in our lcap this completes our annual update to the Board of Education two minutes thank you guys do board do you have any questions comments I'll go with Mr Bridge first of all uh thank you very much for the support I'm pleased to see the

progress that we're making just one quick question on the UMD effort to support student connectedness and engagement on the District web page the One-Stop shop do we have an idea of how many people have accessed or equipped on that on numbers of page I know it's just recently started but other people are accessing we can actually look at the analytics

and I can get that information for you thank you thank you Mr knock okay um yeah excellent presentation uh there's fellows especially like the part where parent and family engagement uh number one you said building relationship between staff and families and I think that is a very crucial item and also building a trust so thank you for that addressing the

important item and I I do remember Miss fellows when you were a principal how you got everybody I said everybody all the parents on campus are involved and you had certain technique that I don't want to share right now but I I like to highly ask Dr anfield to have uh Miss fellows have do a presentation in front of our our

principles and and site leadership uh that what she has done to brought all the family members together working for the students on campus people had really really had no time to look at negative things but they were all there Us in sweats working for children and their success and and you had that magic to it uh with fellows so

I like to see it uh happening in other campuses too so but again uh I think uh you're in the right position to to lead your department and you're doing an excellent job thank you thank you [Applause] thank you ladies oh okay we have one more one more you know I was speaking to a gentleman from another city and he's

he he's coming to live in Chino and the whole reason why he's coming because of the schools because the schools are great so a lot of people are coming because it's a reflection of of all of us what you guys are doing so good job thank you thank you thank you for all this information tonight we would be on to our comments from our

student representative and Miss King isn't able to join us tonight and we just wish her well because I know she's working hard um kids have a lot to do right now at the end of the year so we do miss her and now we're up for comments from employee Representatives we have maybe Brenda Walker from Act not here tonight Danny Hernandez from

CSEA good evening president Shaw board members Dr Enfield cabinet staff and community excuse me my comments tonight will be brief I just wanted to share with the board and Community the awesome example of kindness and support you have that your staff has for one another earlier this week one of our staff members felt ill and needed emergency

medical attention staff recognizes his situation and leaked into action making sure the person was taken care of both physically and mentally being genuinely concerned about a co-workers demonstrated that there is still good people all around us going to the hospital and reaching out to the family members and following up it was truly kindness and action I did speak with the daughter earlier

today before the meeting and she did say that her mother is doing much better and hopes to be discharged soon I did want to personally thank some of these awesome individuals for stepping up when needed Audra Stahl Pat kaler Grace Park Leia fellows Richard Rideout Eric Dahlstrom and Laura griego and everyone else working behind the scenes to make sure that a loved one one

of us was taken care of your ax excuse me your awesome examples of kindness did not go unrecognized thank you we have Barbara Bearden from champ good evening president Shaw School of board members Dr Enfield cabinet and the Chino Valley Community many schools are currently reviewing their PBIS practices for tiers one two and maybe three with an external reviewer the Chino Valley

mtssb department has worked hard throughout the year with our tiered teams to support our school sites I would also like to commend the teachers counselors parents students and administrators who serve on the different teams our students will benefit from the time we invest in their success I am very happy to announce the new champ board for the

2023-25 biennium your new president will be Emily Lau president-elect Christine Dahlstrom VPN membership Jackie Jenkins VP of legislative action Vanessa Acuna access inequity Dr Molly large secretary Samantha Han and our members at large will be Heather post and Annette hatch the new officers will begin their terms on July 1st 2023. last weekend students from several schools participated in a debate

tournament held at Chino high school first I want to thank Mr John Miller so I'm so glad you're here the Chino High Principal for allowing a swarm of elementary students and their families to use his campus on a Friday night which also happened to be his birthday impressed by the campus and it was a terrific opportunity to introduce our

students to the BST program I would also like to thank all the high school students who volunteered this year to coach our students our students learned so much from them and were so successful on Saturday the city of Chino hosted a track meet it was my first time ever attending one of our local track meets I was so proud of the students and loved

our sense of community congratulations to Briggs fundamental for earning first place overall thank you all for your time and I hope you have a wonderful weekend thank you so much [Applause] we are now into comments from the audience on items not on the agenda Pat are there any speakers to speak on non-agenda items speakers will be called in the order of

Darlene Berg a young black male by the name of Ralph yarl went to pick up his brothers from a sleepover he went to the wrong house since he was lost rang the doorbell and was shot by an 85 year old homeowner with no provocation when the boy fell he was shot again in the head when he went for help at the neighboring

residences it took three homes before he got someone to help him this is what Erasure breeds when you seek to eradicate black history and education from the curriculum you leave it to people like the shooter and his neighbors to educate their kids and grandkids on what the black community is and is like they are the ones that have the last

word and they are the ones who manage the racial climate of the area and to the non-black and non-white members of this board please allow me to say this since I don't think you're realizing it you you are erasing my people from the curriculum then you came for Trans kids at your last meeting why exactly do you

think your communities are safe just because you belong to the educational theocracy Calvary Chapel has created this school district has enacted ordinances and resolutions that have tried to erase us sanitize what you do teach about what happened to us and have even engineered the curriculum so that the month that's supposed to celebrate us is used to educate us on our deepest

ancestral trauma many black mothers myself included across the country's thought that could have been one of my sons the way this district is going a very it very well may come to that don't erase us please it's not just unfair to do so it's a literal matter of life and death for us and our kids if our kids have to live through racism

Why can't your kids learn about it thank you thank you Kelsey Robertson followed by Darlene Berg followed by Scott Rosen hi I have six kids in the neighboring K-12 school district and I have family in this District at the last board meeting on April 3rd Sonja Shaw invited an anti-trans hate group leader to lead the Pledge of Allegiance Sonia you talk

about parents rights and respect for parents and the love you have for kids how you support all kids but then you pick a random guy from an anti-trans hate group to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance a random guy that isn't a parent or isn't a student or has anything to do with this District the valedictorian was here there was

multiple students to pick from multiple parents to pick from but the guy that Prides himself on being nasty and vile towards the trans Community the guy that was screaming at parents in this meeting is who you invited to come so you set the tone of this divisiveness and you brought this hateful rhetoric into the boardroom by kicking off a school board

meeting with an anti-trans group leader on the same night you asked for support on a motion for an anti-trans bill this disrespectful stunt you pulled opened up the Chino Valley Community to harm and it directly impacted student safety do you know know what your invited guest did after the pledge he yelled at multiple parents calling them all kinds

of names but his favorite being groomer and then he came into the Overflow room and in there he got into yelling arguments with students and children and as he walked away he screamed at them and I quote get some Xanax because I know where you can find it this is not protecting our kids your attempt at starting a meeting with

an anti-trans group leader sent a clear message that you don't care if trans students are in danger nor do you care if you're contributing to their danger multiple students spoke at this last meeting every single one of them asked for you to oppose ab1314 not one student supported your motion it's impossible to believe you love all children when you

can sit and listen to student after student tell you why AB 1314 is horrible and why it puts them in danger and why it doesn't actually protect them and you still voted against them on the flip side your support for your motion did have some support it was your anti-trans guy and then proud member proud boy members you literally had

proud boys right outside these walls yelling horrific things about the trans students in this District I won't repeat any of them but I absolutely will email them to this board it's very very alarming that this is the crowd that comes when you rally for support from day one you've cherry-picked which students you believe get support but let

us remind you once again you're here to protect all students including trans students so stop saying you're for all students while simultaneously putting Woods in danger thank you Darlene Burke followed by Scott Rosen followed by Aaron O'Leary my name is Darlene Berg I have two kids in the school district um thank you for Kelsey for that I don't

think it was funny at all at the end about the proud boys um the following is an email though sent on behalf of a student who does not feel safe appearing in person do the hate groups that were presented at the last meeting board members may not understand the damage they are doing to the LGBT kids in this community and it's crucial for

the students to be heard here's the letter dear teacher as the year is coming to a close I would like to say I feel genuinely disrespected by you and your class I have emailed you before at the beginning of the year asking you kindly to respect what I have decided to be called every single teacher I currently

have and have had in the past year at school has been kind enough to try whether or not they succeed in correctly referring to me due to not being used to the change or forgetting they at least try I cannot stress enough how horrible this all makes me feel I have tried so hard kindly asked you sent you an email

explaining talk to our principal fill that nine pages of paperwork and email board members asking questions about my rights all the while I have continued to be kind to you in class doing my work and helping other students I understand there's a possibility that you may have opinions that do not agree with my name or pronoun change but I am saying this

in the kindest way possible your opinion on said issue does not matter in your classroom the comfort of your students matters you teach your subject very well are good at your job and as much as you may not connect with students I feel as though respect is important to you I respect that you know the subject you're

teaching very well and I am genuinely learning but I dread coming to your class because I feel so disrespected and disregarded I know that you want to be treated with respect and you deserve that because everyone does even me I deserve to be respected by you because I have done nothing wrong that would warrant being continuously disrespected

I've also heard you call at least one other student by a different name he goes by his middle name he sits right next to me and although this has nothing to do with him it's a constant reminder that I am personally disrespected why can he be called a different name but I cannot again the school year is ending

but there are other students that are like me transgender students who will come to you for support students who will learn so much from you who will understand your subject leaving your class better than when they walked in so please respect the students who may not agree with just because there are so many different people that you have to

meet in life I want students to love your class for more than just your subject one final thing I would like to mention is that I am the same student as I was the first time I met you in your old classroom at lunch when I was with other students we had fun playing hangman and I mentioned hoping to be in

your class I was excited when this year started because I loved how you were positive and fun when I first met you at the end of the day I'm a human and most of all I'm a child I'm 16 years old all I want is to feel comfortable enough to learn in class thank you for your time

and consideration our district has staff who do not understand California laws surrounding pronoun use and students rights we have been assured by Dr Enfield the staff is required to follow the law clearly that's not enough we're requesting that our non-discrimination policies are updated immediately so that a district is in compliance with Cal current California law thank you thank

you thank you Scott Rosen followed by Aaron O'Leary followed by Kyle pennant first it's Ross Ross that's okay before I get started I want to thank the board like all five of you guys because whether you agree or disagree with the decisions you guys make obviously your hard work and dedication can't be argued with so I also want to thank Mr Miller

as my kid goes to Chino High my kid graduated from Chino high and he and his staff are awesome his admin they're fantastic and so is my principal Dr Large I work at Rhodes I'm here for two reasons the first reason is the student store clerk position at Chino and Don legal High School student store clerk not only runs the

student store but they're there to help connect students with the many activities on campus this is an important position because it helps build school spirit and gets kids excited about school and normal times this is important but in the past or post covid time where many kids are disenfranchised from school this position is imperative but there's a

problem at Chino Hills High in Ayala High these are full-time positions and at Don Lugo and Chino High they're part-time positions with about 40 percent of the hours of the other schools so for the last year I've asked people and gotten a bunch of different answers but there's two consistent answers one is this is how it's always

been and the district just provides this for Chino Hills High and not Chino and Don lugohi that doesn't seem to make sense the other answer is that the money collected at the store of the sales provide for the additional hours this means that because kids at IL and Chino Hills High have more discretionary money to buy more Gatorades and chips they're

provided with a person who can help ensure a stronger School climate that doesn't seem to make sense either in a world with lcap and the way schools are funded if anything Don Lugo and Chino Ohio should have more hours than the other two schools I know there's thousands of positions in this district and this is obviously an oversight but

hopefully it can get fixed the other reason I'm here is CAF has recently approved girls flag football for fall 2023 uh Chino I has both girls ready to play and adults ready to coach but there's some hold up um I don't know what the hold up is I was at a sports boosters meeting and again different reasons were given

um but it we should make it a priority to be soon the two reasons to be our priority is one the Rams are offering fifteen thousand dollars to any High School who gets their program started as quickly as possible um this year and so that would have to happen this year if the money might not be there the next year schools are

already forming teams and leagues uh the other is it could become a Title IX issue if there's girls who want to play in coaches who want to coach and we're depriving these girls of the legal right to play um if only Chino high as a team it's no big deal it's just like Don Lugo is the only one with the boys volleyball team

again um I know there's an HR position in flux and this position can fall through the cracks but I think we want to take care of it before it's too late to capitalize on the money and the girls miss out so thank you for your time have a good evening awesome thank you thank you for coming tonight

Aaron O'Leary followed by Kyle pennant followed by Misty good evening president Shaw and fellow board members my name is Aaron O'Leary and I work for the Lewis group of companies as you're aware in January of this year the district filed a lawsuit against our Affiliated companies alleging we owe development impact fees we vehemently deny those claims however hopefully you are aware that we

have made a statutory offer to resolve our dispute I'm sure board members Cruz Na and Bridge recall our desire to meet with you in March of last year to resolve the dispute over the value of the school the The Preserve School number two we made an offer to accept one million nine hundred and sixty thousand dollars less than our appraised value of the

property the district rejected our offer without meeting with us I have a copy of the offer in my hand actually right here it's sad we wish you would have sat down and talked to us back then you would have saved the district two million dollars I think you owe it to the students the families and the taxpayers in this

District did not make the same mistake again U.S department have the autism have the ultimate decision in making this settlement you have empowered and enabled the same staff and the same attorney that cost the district two million dollars a little over a year ago we sincerely believe that the District staff and the attorneys made a poor decision then and they are making a poor

decision now candidly the board also made a poor decision back in 2022 by not meeting with us it should be noted the district also paid us over approximately one million dollars in legal fees for prior breach of the mitigation agreement let's not let history repeat itself the board should take control of this situation we respectfully urge the board

to do the following sit down with us for a settlement conference if the entire board can't meet with us then appoint two representatives to participate at the settlement conference you will actually get to hear the facts of the case hear our side hear your side and make an intelligent decision get a second legal opinion I noticed the

district is already paying Atkinson Adelson they have attorneys with expertise in this matter and they could easily and quickly render a second opinion talk candidly with the Consultants that prepare your school facility needs analysis ask them to review documents and provide their opinion hold your legal counsel and staff for accountable for their past mistakes they need more oversight the district has 30

days which is May 15th to accept our statutory offer I'm willing to make myself available over the next couple weeks to have settlement discussions with you I hope you will seriously consider this request thank you thank you Kyle pennett followed by the final speaker Misty Dr Enfield members of the board president Sean staff thank you for listening

I feel I must speak out tonight board members democracy is about means people do not have to agree on the ends like ab1314 or gas taxes or any issue but we must agree on the means for managing disagreements and as my mother who survived the Nazi regime would tell you it matters greatly in a democracy debigatory bullying lying

justify the ends how about violence no these are corrupt means used by autocrats like Vladimir Putin and the Ayatollah Khomeini to intimidate and control it is not the American way he had its mightily apparent that we have in our community lost its way last board meeting in the hallways there were hate groups that threatened children some who are gay and trans with

violence they call themselves Christians and invoke the name of Jesus Christ and there is a video it was unconscionable but to whomever did this I will be crystal clear a child of Christ does not dog whistle hate groups that threaten violence ever to those who were attacked last time I am truly and deeply sorry I am a family

man an educator a Christian and my heart aches please know the central tenet my faith love your neighbor as you love yourself and this key command love one another that is the way hate is never the way anybody who says otherwise has a false teacher board members you must ensure the safety of everybody here you must condemn the

hate groups who came last night and make clear that they're not welcome in our community we deserve better than this all of us I urge you please table the culture wars it's harming us and our children and it's damaging your ability to get good work done meanwhile maybe you can be creative perhaps you can offer to bring parents

students and teachers together in a community Roundtable a place to listen and share experiences towns all over the country are doing this and it's healing it's an idea for an off ramp we need one I'm going to have to ask for protection tonight when I leave here from the police thank you I pray I never have to do that

so there's there's a question there are just too many questions and by the way I I did read the bill there's the ledge info it's all in one particular section of of Ed code 51 101 uh subsection 17 and then point three in there it says promote communication and positive relationships with parents is that one particular section of of Ed

code 51101 subsection 17 and then it's under a b and then point three in there it says promote communication and positive relationships with parents is that going to happen 100 of the time can you guarantee that it's going to happen 100 of the time no you can't and when you can't guarantee something 100 of the time I'm not going to put my

vote somewhere where it could actually cause harm if it just causes harm to one student that's one student Mr Bridge that's what he said if the cause is harmed one student so where were you when people parents were testifying and complaining that masks were causing harm to their kids that their kids couldn't breathe that their kids were having depression the

kids were not learning speech where were you when they were mandating vaccines you didn't seem to care when somebody was dropping dead of a heart attack that's one person thousands of people having adverse reactions where were you when that one person was being affected it's very hypocritical that you're concerned about one kid but not the rest of ours

these two gentlemen I am fully aware the basketball court in the old building has already been named Joe Molina Court the legend should not stop there it needs to be renewed just like the rest of Chino High School where Mr Elder and Mr Murillo deserve to remain part of a new renewal Mr Muriel played basketball under Mr

Elder until his graduation in 1965. my husband David Eisley a teacher at Chino High during the 60s also said Mr Elder coach basketball and he tells me Mr Elder was extremely dedicated to coaching basketball and he helped decide the basketball building before that Chino hi had a horrible ugly Festival building but yet Mr Elder never gave up he always worked with his

basketball young men as if he was a beautiful Court and in the worst conditions continuing coaching basketball from the old basketball building and positively dedicating his efforts to help him decide a new basketball building on the other hand Mr Murio coached the girls basketball team for 29 years he won many titles for our girls basketball team but

most important he didn't as a single parent of four children with the help of his mother all the time spent away from home did not stop him from bringing up four outstanding children two of them are Court judges and the son is a high school principal and it's what was so funny about the Sun cute his sisters were older and he felt

uncomfortable taking the Spanish AP exam well Mr Modio was working there he could have paid for it right but no he didn't want to his sisters knew Spanish not him I paid for his and I said you're gonna take it without telling Mr Murillo guess what he became first a Spanish High School teacher he didn't believe in himself but I

believed in him without his father knowing it I told him here is the money you're going if I have to go with you and he did and now he's a principal no he's a principal now um one of the daughters was valedictorian in her class and I remember writing the letter of recommendation for her to be in the

writing of Title IX in Washington DC for those of you that do not know what Title IX is is the equality of women in basketball I mean in sports in sports and she was part of the writing group thank you okay um oh sorry we have three minutes oh I apologize if you would like to stay for after the

uh I was formerly known as Gene Clark when I played for Joseph Murillo under his tool which I graduated in 1997. that being said it's I can come up here and run off the stats about how you know how many games he's won how many championships he's won how many that what I love to address is the Joseph

Merlot that you do not know the Joseph Murillo the mentor the Joseph Murillo the educator the Joseph Mello the father of five not four when I was in high school I was pretty much homeless I was bouncing around from couch to couch I was an All-American in three Sports I was an honorable student and Coach Murillo out of the goodness of

his heart allowed me to live within his home he took me in without ever asking a dime for it not only did he do that it's hurting because we talk about his coaching but we don't talk about the amount of money that coach Merlin has sacrificed and given on this behalf he sacrificed so many times so I could

attend a basketball camp it costs money to be an elite athlete it costs money to travel to these All-American Adventures coach Murillo would be invited as a coach and he would forego payments so that I could go so that I could have an opportunity because of Coach Murillo I was the first person in my family to attend a college I was the first person

in Chino to go to UConn right because of Twitter I had these opportunities I learned not only just about basketball but our education extended the amount of Summers that we spent together I don't know if you guys know this but the boosters have a firework stand and they provide it primarily to the men's team coach Murillo made sure that the Women's

Basketball team had its own fireworks stand and with that money he provided opportunities for us to travel in times when the school was not covering it we spent most of our summers traveling the entire coast of California I went to Canada twice because of Coach Murillo I got to go to the Nike All-American Camp because of Coach Murillo because of

Coach Monroe I've had the opportunity to Stand Here Against All Odds I had so many chips stacked against me and here I am a college educated graduate person standing at 43 years old alive without a bullet in my back without owing anything I owe this because of Coach Merlot because of Coach Murillo I've had the opportunity to see

most of this country most of the world I've had this opportunity to sit in front of people and cultures that are completely different than me without ever feeling uncomfortable because he educated us on how to do that so for his name not to be on that new center would be a disservice to him as a legend as a

mentor an educator a coach to Chino and what it means all together thank you so much thank you so much for coming thank you thank you to our speakers for coming may I have a motion so moved second any comments questions discussions hey it's beautiful now nothing we'll take a vote I'll do yeah I just have a

Bridge thank you just a few comments um first uh last week I attended the baldy view ROP of Student Success award ceremony Dublin High last week wonderful ceremony a lot of students were recognized and probably I would think that President Shaw will have more to say on on that as the uh representative of the board of the

commission but it was a terrific evening last night went to the Chino Hills Parks and Recreation Commission meeting uh and this was the meeting where they recognized the outgoing student member Nicole Torres from Ayala High School uh also it was good to hear that Nicole's been hired by the Chino by Chino Hills as a recreation leader for

the summer and then the other interesting thing I heard and wanted to share with the board is from our Student Government day and I think this shows the community the uh the the students that we have in the district and the students that participate in this five of our students who participated in student government day were hired by the

city for uh the summer Recreation program and it was nice to to hear that one more uh thing uh regarding uh the Parks and Recreation Commission uh the Chino Hills teen Advisory Board application deadline is next week April 26th and they will be um conducting uh interviews for that committee uh in early May and then one other thing I'm going to

I'm going to read because this day for the last 24 years has has saddened me and and my family some of you already know the story some of you don't but with the rash of of school shootings and so on that we've had just in the last few weeks and months uh 24 years ago today you only have to

say one word and that's Columbine and for those of you that don't know the daughter of my wife's cousin was a second student hit at Columbine still survive today in a wheelchair permanently disabled but I want to read something that I think we'll we'll share with you so that you understand the the gravity of this and and still what we're facing today

not only in our schools but just Nationwide this is what she wrote exactly 24 years ago I came very close to being the 14th victim to die at Columbine High School two minutes to be exact if I had leaned there on the concrete another two minutes I would have passed the window where I could have been saved

so many things happened that day which saved my life my two friends who risked their lives to drag my paralyzed body away from the shooters during which I got shot again through both my lungs diagram diaphragm liver and vein I laid there for another 45 minutes bleeding out an ambulance came to the back of the school who didn't know it

was safe it wasn't safe because they were on a different radio frequency than the police when they pulled in the paramedics thought I was dead my vision was failing and all I saw was white the ambulance was red and I was able to see it and stretch my arms out to it had the ambulance been white I

wouldn't have seen it and the paramedics would have driven right past me paramedic kusami moved my arms jumped out and risked his own life to save mine the shooter Simon started shooting out the library windows at us the member of the library was on the second floor the cops who were already lined up returned cover fire miraculously the

paramedic wasn't shot and the chaos of bullets flying everywhere then we made it to the Swedish Medical Center where a trauma surgeon was there that day who normally wasn't he had seen War wounds and had much more experience than the other surgeons another reason I survived was his expertise and there are other reasons I survived but too many to post here

I wanted to share that with you because as I said our family kind of relives this every April 20th it also reminds me of where I was that day in my classroom at Ayala High School where I saw her name pop up on the injured list as I was leaving school that night the other tragedy of this

story was gun violence is my wife's cousin her mother six months after that in October walked into a pawn shop in Denver with a bullet in her pocket asked to see a particular gun families from northern Minnesota they've used they've used guns and know how to shoot put the bullet in the gun took her own life right in that pawn shop

was the lead story on the channel 4 news that night and that's how we found out so I hope someday this country will begin to work on solving not only the problems of of the gun violence but everything else so apologize for getting a little emotional but it's it's something that our family has had to live with for a while I can

tell you that that summer I visited in Denver visited my wife's cousins her dad took me to the parking lot of Columbine and we sat there in the parking lot and looked at the boarded up when you know boarded up building and he went through the whole description of of what she wrote and I think what you see now 24 years later

is what we are doing to try and make our schools safer you think back to what this District looked like in the 80s and 90s we didn't have all the fencing around it we didn't have particular security things on the door we didn't have ID badges just anything that we can do to try and make schools safer if we continue to work on

it are we there yet no but we're going to continue to work on it as we you know hold this in our memories president Shaw concludes my remarks thank you Mr Bridge Mr na yes uh I I do agree with the speaker tonight um I believe he's a teacher in our school district I think the problem needs to be

rectified in our Chino high school and Don Lugo where our student store clerk used to be a full-time position just like our other high schools because our students need services all day long and that's my observation and I like to have Dr Enfield have our staff look into the situation and hopefully we can get in touch with the speaker and

also talk about that a CRF situation at that school yeah not a problem yeah because let's make it all right for the kids um today I have attended international student day at Adult School so the students for a change a matter of fact they looked some of students looked like in their 70s and 80s and they had their own costumes from

all different countries they were dancing and they were singing and it was real and wonderful time to watch with great excitements and I have overheard that one of the students was forced to be there because her daughter's wanted her mom to be uh not being in home and deal with maybe Alzheimer's disease uh potentially if if you're not doing

anything at older age there's a poem for those type of disease to to to reach our loved ones but um it was a great fun we had mariachi band and last Parma dance was an awesome we had the Chinese group with their Flags we had a Korean group with their own Customs Vietnamese yeah Spain they were all out

there enjoying on the morning and afternoon so I'd like to thank our principal there um sir Carl Hampton and our staff members especially Johnny he's our custodian he had to pull out I think hundreds of chairs by himself but um all together are wonderful teachers and staffs got together and made this happen for the school so I'd like to thank for

their great effort on bringing all these students together Under One Roof with Harmony thank you thank you Mr nah Mr Cruz with the hours the student store and the flag football too with the 15 000 dollars so yeah we should talk about that for the next meeting in a closed session go ahead and read this part that hasn't

been completed on the other hand Mr Murillo coached the girls basketball team for 29 years he won many titles for our girls basketball team but most important he did it as a single parent of four children he raised with the help of his mother all the time spent away from the home did not stop him from bringing up four outstanding

children including another one all the time spent away from home did not stop him from bringing up four outstanding children two are Court judges and the son is a school principal Tatiana was valedictorian of her class and I remember writing her letter of recommendation to attend Washington D.C to be part of the initiation of Title Nine I never had a problem with these

basketball girls academically as he was extremely strict with him in that and that their academic rates had to be outstanding outstanding academic female students were created during his time as coach in addition in profoundly serious matter he made sure ELD students taking a science class were placed in science class his science class throughout the day as he would help them by

interpreting in Spanish he never forgot his background a child of immigrants and immigrant himself worked in the fields himself became a citizen finished high school finished college and became a science teacher a coach and this hours girls basketball team for 29 years and Mr Elder for 26 years there's no money in the world that could reward all

the time dedicated to our Chino high school basketball team and the time away from their families that surely missed them these two gentlemen deserve to be recognized as renewed with the title Frank Elder and Joe Murillo at the Chino High School back basketball court Adriana Cardenas Sila Mr Rogers the world according to Mr Rogers so quotes for Mr Rogers

in order to express our sense of reality we must use some kind of symbol words or notes or shades of hate or television pictures or sculpt forms none of those symbols or images can ever completely satisfy us because it can never be any more than what they are a fragment of a reflection of what will fill reality to be

it is an only famous movie stars who want to be alone whenever I hear someone speak of privacy I find myself thinking once again how real and deep need for such a time is for all human beings at all ages so we'll give this to you I took some notes but I'm not going to mention some stuff but

I do want to just say something I'll just make it real quick you know sometimes you know the things that we're concerned with you know we're concerned with this country in that country but actuality it's already in here already it's in our country that is actually destroying the country period And I just want to say this I

just want to say no more rejecting reality Any teacher judge cop politician preacher doctor nurse actor lawyer or anyone else who is in a position of power who rejects the fact that there are only two genders and that men cannot be a woman and a woman cannot be a man should be a danger to our society our children

that that is so Paramount and um and I read something an article you know said California school board voted four to one in favor of the vital parental right Bill while Sacramento denies its hearing I have two words and that is parental rights and policy coming real soon thank you [Applause] thank you Mr Cruz Mr Monroe no comments

thank you Mr Monroe superintendent Dr anfield uh yes I this next week we have a several events in our district in the if you haven't attend any of them I would recommend people get out to to see our kids and and showcase the great work that our kids do at Woodcrest on Monday April 24th at 6 PM is our Orchestra

Festival and then on Tuesday April 25th our district indoors showcase our color guards at Chino Hills High School beginning at 6 30. and then on Wednesday April 26 is our district indoor Showcase of our drum lines and that's at Chino high school at 6 30. and again if you haven't attended any of these vents I'd recommend people to get out and to see

them and our kids do a phenomenal job I'm extremely proud of the work that they do thank you thank you Dr anthem okay so I have I guess it's my turn I would definitely want to look into flat flag football I know that we have Chino high that says they're all ready to go I'm willing to be a volunteer over

at Chino Hills High so count me in on whoever needs to figure it out you have my support and my time I want to congratulate all of our track students they athletes they did amazing it's so it's really cool to see how they all come together and they're able to compete but our school our schools our district shows great pride in and just

seeing the parents there cheering on the the students and the students just achieving stuff is is a great thing for us I am thankful for Chaparral they invited me to their disability awareness assembly which I thought was really neat I thought it was really cool because I don't know if a lot of you know a lot of

the um sites are kind of responsible for their own assemblies and it's just neat to kind of see the variety of assemblies going on and when I get invited I definitely try to make some time to get to to those because those are always neat to see what our kids are being able to get out of class a little bit extra

but learn also and it always ties into something cool and that was a really cool one um on on April 10th I'm losing my days um Mr bridge and Dr Enfield and some of our staff members were able to attend the ROP students success award I do sit on the commissioner's board so I attend monthly meetings over there and it was

an honor to be on that stage and be able to just to congratulate our students for all the hard work that they do these students have shown great commitment and we just want to make sure that we we continue to highlight these programs because we have a lot of great things for our kids to get into and the only

fear that I have when it comes to that is some kids don't know so I mean I just ask that all of our staff just continue to show the the students that there is extra classes and support for them for their success because being on that commission I do see a lot of exciting things and being able to be on a

commission with other districts it's kind of neat to hear the different variety that comes with that so we're definitely proud of all of our students like like I said it was exciting to be on up on stage just to be able to shake their hand and smile and tell them that congratulations and just see the excitement in their eyes to be able to

achieve something for their future I also intended on April 11th along with Mr Cruz and Mr Monroe the belongings at the belongings festival at Rhodes that is their very first one miss Hargrove did an amazing job putting that together along with all the staff and the parents who volunteered for that it was a beautiful night it was a lot of great

food just learning about the different cultures seeing the kids involved and you know going to the different booths and and having kids tell you about their different cultures was was a really cool thing I know she wants to do something even bigger next year and I'm hoping that anybody in the surrounding area can just support that because it was a

really neat event I today I attended the adult school Multicultural Fair event and that was really cool it was different because I don't know if you guys ever been over to our Adult School Mr Hampton does a great job with the staff over there and just to see all the adults be so excited I mean there's there's so many adults from different

countries that attend that school and seeing the pride that they took to be on stage and doing dancing was awesome I think the Korean dance was my favorite it was funny it was cute it was really neat to see and some of those older uh students have some really good dance moves so I was really impressed if you

saw what I saw today you would be saying the same it was really cool it was a ring Dinger of a time I also want to congratulate Mrs Chase it's it's such an honor to be up here during a time and see you be able to take a new school and also hand off your baby of another

school which I know is going to be so hard for you but I know that you know we're you're exactly where you need to be and we're excited for your leadership over there and thank you for stepping up to the plate for that I'd also like to thank um I'm kind of losing my dates but I want to make sure I thanked Eagle

Canyon Rolling Ridge and in trail Chaparral Wickman our alt Ed cvla and Briggs Newman and Marshall for their site visits we're wrapping up our site visits I think May 1st is our last day and it's just a really cool thing to be able to visit each site and just see all the things that are going on in campus
