detail on the printed agenda conference with legal counsel anticipated litigation one matter a student readmission Public Employee appointment Elementary assistant principals Junior High Assistant principals High School assistant principals coordinator special education and assistant superintendent curriculum instruction Innovation and support conference or Labor negotiators Act and CSEA and Public Employee discipline dismissal release the board took the following action

by a vote of 4-0 with Bridge Cruise Monroe and now voting yes and Shaw absent appointed the following individuals Dr Hilda Flores assistant superintendent curriculum instruction Innovation and support effective date to be determined appointed Alicia Johnson as coordinator in special education effective August 18 2023 appointed Kenneth Wang Chang as assistant principal at Hidden Trails Elementary School effective August 18

appointed silvina James as assistant principal at Newman Elementary School effective August 18 2023 appointed Jennifer Hansen as assistant principal at Chino Valley Learning Academy effective August 21st 2023 appointed Daniel Galindo as assistant principal at Chino High School effective August 18 2023 and appointed Anne-Marie Jahan as assistant principal at Don Lugo High School effective September 1st 2023 no

student representative on the CVUSD Board of Education I just wanted to briefly thank my parents for supporting me and always pushing me to be my best I'm happy to report that Ayala that at Ayala we have had a very successful first day welcoming back Bulldogs to our campus with the help of our spirit leaders and USB students we have our

first recognition rally tomorrow during the school day and our first home football game which I encourage you to attend tomorrow at our Stadium starting at 7 pm Ayala students and staff are unified and are excited to work towards having a great school year in news from other schools Chino Hills High School had their first rally of the school year

last Friday and they will also be having their first football game of the year tomorrow at 7 pm Don Lugo High School is having their first rally this Friday as well as their first football game at 7 pm Chino Hills High is having their first football game tomorrow at 7 pm and they are having their first rally next

Friday thank you so much and have a great rest of your evening thank you Chloe next up comments from our employee Representatives uh Miss Brenda Walker Act good evening Vice President Monroe board member superintendent Enfield District staff welcome Chloe and community everything went well I have a nice bunch of students I absolutely love being a counselor great week of school very supportive

Administration and a wonderful team of teachers pretty awesome the kids are positive upbeat Cooperative attentive and bright-eyed and bushy-tailed it was a long week but looking forward to a great year the kids are wonderful I love my new students awesome group of Kinders this year these are some of the comments from our teachers counselors psychologists nurses and speech and language pathologist when

I asked how was your first week nothing is ever perfect but our members Embrace their students course correct and adjust when things don't go as planned and have kept it moving that's what we do and we appreciate all the district departments for working so hard to prepare for students and staff we know that's what you do our members remain focused on Student

Success and we continue to ask that the board and District work with us to make that happen for every student thank you thank you Miss Walker CSEA Danny Hernandez good evening Vice President Monroe superintendent infield staff board members and community and welcome Chloe during the summer months when schools are on summer break many assume that District staff is off as well

I can share with you that that is not all that is not the case for all classified staff have been working urgently during the summer to get ready for the beginning of the school year Warehouse have been delivering items throughout the district Media Center have been counting and distributing books technology have been working on getting devices up and running

maintenance staff excuse me have been busy getting the fields ready painting walls making sure our security monitoring and fire systems are working payroll and business as well as business is making sure everyone is getting paid Human Resources working on filling multiple positions for both classified certificated and administration these things don't just happen the dedicated classified staff members have

been working during the hot summer months to get things ready for this school year and who can forget about the staff over at Calera they work 12 months during the whole summer this is in addition to the countless staff uh trainings that staff must attend at the beginning of each school year Transportation Security and nutrition services have trainings that are

mandatory for staff to attend to stay in compliance again this was in addition to summer school esy and the elop programs that ran throughout the summer months all classified did an awesome job in trying to get things ready for this school year things were by no means perfect there are only so many hours in the day and only so many people to do the work

staff cannot repair or replace devices that we don't have parts for many are on back order we ask for your patience during this time staff is working hard to try to get these things resolved as quickly as possible this is for those in attendance or those that are walking watching online Child Development are fun clubs and nutrition services is in desperate need

of staff hours and rates may vary but if you're able and willing these departments could use your help thank you thank you Mr Hernandez Rex we'll have Emily Lau from champ good evening Vice President Monroe school board members Dr anfield cabinet Chino Valley Community and welcome Chloe we are back there is no better time of year than the beginning of the year

welcoming students for the start of a new year it's exciting there's energy in the air and we are up and running it's a great time of year in the next coming weeks all Chino Valley Unified School District Schools are going to be hosting back to school nights this is a great opportunity for families and communities to meet children's teachers get to know

the school I'd like to encourage All Families to get involved in your child's School whether you can spare one hour a year or several hours a day there's something for everyone now is the time that schools are reaching out to parents looking for volunteers and committee members your ideas and opinions truly matter to us and being a

part of a committee such as the English language advisory Council otherwise known as elac School site Council alcap representative safety committees or any other committees that are on your school campuses it's an absolutely great way to support your school and I encourage everyone to London Linda helping hand have a great year thank you Miss Lau uh we're now from uh going to comments

from the audience not on the agenda speakers will be called in the order the request was received instructions for public comments are available by the speaker cards please listen for your name and be prepared to approach the podium any comments on agenda items will not be accepted during uh consider will be accepted during the consideration of that item

at the podium and board policy 1312.1 outlines procedure regarding complaints against an employee the first speaker is Jim Gallagher followed by Lance asbra followed by Rudy Krauss good evening uh board Dr Enfield staff and fellow residents so welcome back to another school year you might recall a few months ago I spoke expressed my concerns regarding safety in our community as well as in

our schools as you were aware we did have a shooting in Chino Hills in one of our restaurants fortunately only one person was shot and it wasn't a mass shooting but it just again heightened my concerns about the possibilities now due to the emotional nature of a lot of our school board meetings I'd like to recommend Dr

Enfield and also our excellent safety staff that perhaps we reconsider how people are entered into the meeting uh perhaps have a safety check everybody that comes through when we have those large meetings I'd recommend no flagpoles no sticks people will be checked for weapons including board members I might add and just to assure that we're going to have a safe

something very different though as a Christian Lord put on my heart to to as this word says it were to to bless and honor those that are that are in charge that are in leadership so I wanted to come I just want to say thank you to the board and for everyone that's here thank you for the the

administrators and the teachers like myself that that serve so I wanted to start off by just honoring because you step up and you do things that are that are challenging and it says that we're to also pray for leaders and to pray and and to to pray God's peace and blessing over where we're at so I'd like to if you're okay

with that I'd like to just pray for you guys and just pray for a district if if that's fine I'd like to take a minute to do that and then I'll hand it to somebody else but I just want to invite the Lord's presence and blessing into this District so father just thank you for this time I

thank you for this board Lord we we invite your presence right now we invite you Lord Jesus I ask that you would bless you would honor you'd protect the board our superintendent all that are serving here Lord I pray your peace over them your peace over their family bless them or give them strength to make some decisions sometimes that will be

difficult that may not always be popular Lord Lord I want to also bless our schools Lord all the amazing administrators that we have Lord our our teachers our classified staff all those that that work at our schools or bless them and protect them Lord and I want to ask Lord that you would bless the students as well from K to 12. God I want to ask

that as they go through this year Lord that the one identity that they would represent is that of a son or a daughter of the most high God and I ask father that you would visit that you would touch that you would bless our students Lord I pray that this school district would be a a light on a hill that others

would see Lord where where more students are graduating Lord we're there is no violence where the teachers are happy Lord where where there we are blessed because we invited you so Lord I invite you into this meeting and I know many others are and Lord I want to ask you to encourage other staff members family members to come and pray for the board

to pray for city council to walk like others do to walk to school or did you put on my heart and others to walk around the school and pray so we invite you Lord and again we just bless all of them Lord we thank you for your presence and I believe it's going to be a great school year because you're

this and lived in this community for over 18 years with a third of that time spent receiving an education at CVUSD schools as a student I grew up in a household of extremely hard-working immigrant parents who entrusted the Educators and faculty of CVUSD to instruct my education teachers and staff allowed me to grow learn and experience topics I would have

never thought to explore example Miss Cunningham of Townsend Junior High School helped instill confidence in myself and my artwork where she encouraged me to submit a self-portrait for an art competition one that I actually won as a shy odd self-conscious kid who didn't really look like the rest of his peers was Cunningham saw something in me that I

didn't see in myself and provided me a safe space to be creative and learn Mr crocino's High School turned economics into entrepreneurship and was ready to advise a club I started in 2008 the Chino Hills High Computer Club the club was inclusive to all students wanting to learn about computer hardware software and emerging Technologies Mr Crowe made

a whole group of nerdy students feel welcomed no matter their background and was eager for students to get involved he instilled trust encouragement and a sense of purpose in me and anyone who seemed not to follow the status quo the common denominator between both experience has been compassionate empathetic and caring Educators who always had the best intentions for their

students Ms Cunningham and Mr Crowe are just two examples of numerous Educators that supported people like me to learn more about themselves create a sense of community and purpose without the Ms Cunningham's and Mr crows of the world at CVUSD we lose the connection to our students and their mentors that lead the next generation of Hope and inspiration

we desperately need I support a student's right to attend a safe Equitable and inclusive School environment and receive a quality education at CVUSD schools I support teachers right to educate and instruct their students effectively and I support a parent's right to be positively engaged in their child's educational Journey I struggle to support policies such as 50 20.1 parental notification poorly

written the policy includes limitations on implementation and enforcement it fans the Flames of hostility and divisiveness students and Educators cannot afford policies like this are political stunts masquerading as parental rights by an overreaching School Board not Guided by facts data or Reason and come at the expense of students Educators and parents thank you Liz Rosales followed by Misty

how are you guys um okay so I have two children who attend uh Chino Valley Unified I have a sixth grader and I have a junior I don't want to get emotional we have been residents of The Preserve since November of 2011. we chose to preserve because it was a tight-knit community and we were excited um to have our kids attend a community

school having uh the same school having our children attend uh a school for a long period of time was very important to us because my husband and I switched Elementary's three different times each so when we decided to buy here it was very important for us for them to go you know from kindergarten to uh the end of high

school which is 12th grade um my daughter you know she finished at calero from K through 8th she's now at Channel Hills High there was a lot of growing pains for her along the way calero because we've been through a lot multiple principles obviously the one that everybody knows about is overcrowding um but she survived she stayed because she

wanted to stay with because of her friends now with the whole situation where finally we have a new school which is a blessing for us right we have a new school we're excited my son's excited that now the school's not going to be overcrowded um I think last week we get an email that says your son has to leave pretty much

he has to leave he has to go to a different school because he's out of the border right and so now I have to explain to my son that he has to leave his friends he's known from kindergarten to sixth grade and now he has to you know good when you School make new friends um and figure it out which in my opinion

is unfair to a 11 year old who has been at a school who has multiple tracks so in his track he's had the same students that he's kind of traveled along for the last few years and so to me as a parent it's concerning that he's at this point pretty much being told he's being forced to go to a new school

which I think is not fair um our community where we live has been there for 12 years and I understand that a lot of these communities have been you know they were built in 2020 22 23 but our community where we are has been there for 12 years he's been there since kindergarten my daughter is now a junior

and so I'm just asking you guys to please consider some sort of Grandfather option for students who have been there since kindergarten who you know for our community who's been there since 2010 you know I find it a little unfair that we have to leave thank you Misty followed by Glory chicarelli followed by Crystal good evening at our last board meeting a

certain parent made a comment I want to address as she was being kicked out she yelled blood on your hands Sonia blood on your hands all because our board president believes in Parental involvement and notification regarding their child in actuality the blood is on the hands of anyone trying to keep secrets from parents and trying to break up families

so this includes some teachers definitely the teachers unions Thurmond Banta Newsom and other government officials Newsome claims he's for Parental involvement but I've got news for him that doesn't mean he gets to pick and choose when and where that involvement occurs parental involvement includes every aspect of my child's life until they're 18. parental involvement plays a crucial role in preventing suicide among

adolescents here's a statistic especially for Newsom since he loves to spew false statistics around this is from the World Health Organization did you know that globally suicide is the fourth leading cause of death among individuals aged 15 and 19. regardless of gender identity however research has shown that strong parental involvement can significantly reduce suicide risk when parents

actively engage in their child's life open lines of communication and provide emotional support the likelihood of suicide attempts decreases by 50 percent parents create a strong support system that can act as a buffer against emotional struggles in no study ever does it say suicide rates will decrease by keeping secrets I.E gender identity from the parents in fact those Secrets may actually

contribute to it down the road you are all making huge flawed assumptions otherwise as parents we have a unique perspective and understanding of our own children which makes our involvement crucial we have been with them more hours days and years than any one teacher ever has we should collaborate with teachers attend parent-teacher conferences and stay informed about our child's progress

this involvement helps us better understand their strengths challenges and how we can support them just as I was a member of my special needs daughter's IEP I was in contact with her teacher in AIDS daily either in writing emails phone calls or in person I as the parent was a vital part of her team we all helped each other provide

the best education and safe learning environment for my daughter monitoring and recognize these changes and behaviors and moods social interactions enables parents to identify warning earth science early so instead of pushing parents out of the picture why don't we try doing the opposite let's even get counselors and therapists involved if needed and let's get the high school suicide rate down more than

50 percent thank you Glory ciccarelli followed by Crystal followed by the final speaker Mindy shamp I want to start with a quote from Pastor Jack Hibbs the pastor that has made it his mission to have a say in everything that goes on in this District before you call them rich white guys who are slave owners you need to finish this

sentence they were rich white guys who were slave owners who clothed fed and in many cases took very good care of their slaves while at the same time juggling Two Worlds as I need to take care of these people because if I throw them out they'll starve to death and or be captured or killed but on the other hand

I need to work for their freedom I had been hoping and praying for a way to show the black parents and parents of black kids of this District how dangerous the Erasure is getting in this District so to the parents to black parents and parents of black kids I can only say wake up wake up to what is happening wake up and

start coming to these meetings wake up and realize that what our ancestors went through is slowly getting phased out of the curriculum to the point where our kids will eventually be taught that literal slaveholders were nice guys who kept their people from getting captured or killed what is that so again I have to say black parents and

parents of black kids wake up because if you don't start coming to these meetings and if you continue to attend a church week after week led by a pastor who points to you and uses you as a shield against accusations of racism and if you continue to pretend that because your child hasn't said anything to you then things must not be that bad

then you are complicit and everything we all know is coming next thank you Crystal followed by the final speaker Mindy shamp good evening I'm here to speak to you guys about something that has been a huge concern of mine and many others that I have been speaking with so the teachers union is instructing their members how to sideline two recent policies that

you guys have passed an attorney came to our last meeting and spoke very clearly and explained very clearly how these policies are legal so why is the union purposely going against what the majority of us parents in this District want which is complete transparency regarding our children that is what we want the union for my understanding is

supposed to be representing the teachers regards to their work environment their salary their benefits but instead their focus lately has been on keeping secrets from parents their focus is going against what majority of this board has voted on you pay her salary and she doesn't agree with you she doesn't agree with us she doesn't agree with us parents so instead of following

the rules she's sending out emails coaching teachers how to go around policies that you guys just implemented what are we teaching our children if they don't like a rule find a way around it it's disrespectful it's unacceptable and it's childish behavior this is a huge problem a very big problem this all connects to the CTA which ultimately connects to new sum and

Thurman and it's very concerning to many of us that we have a union in our district that is fighting against us parents something I don't know what I don't know what legalities can be done but something needs to be done about it and it needs to be addressed like immediately thank you Mindy shamp hello good evening board and

superintendent Enfield and staff I would like to ask the board to focus on issues that the majority of our students especially in junior high and high school are experiencing just last week there was a gang-related stabbing outside of Chino Hills High School involving students there are ongoing racial issues drug issues fights and bullying not to mention the many kids

who are working through anxiety and depression it's hard to be a kid I know there are a lot of admin and teachers working really hard to address the needs of their students on campus but they need your support instead of requiring parents to opt into social emotional learning giving the impression that it has something to do with the woke agenda I would just ask

that you begin to understand and emphasize the importance of our children learning in a positive healthy social emotional environment and social emotional skills both at home and at school our students need development in skills like growing empathy getting along with those different from them conflict resolution and self-esteem I know you want to stick to the basics but

anyone who knows even a little bit about neurological development knows that students literally can't learn if they aren't feeling safe and seen But while our students and teachers are dealing with these stressors at school you are focusing on teachers taking down banners not even flags that say you matter because it's in colorful letters I feel like if this board was in touch with

anything happening on our campuses they wouldn't be so um sorry they wouldn't be so much focused on so much what teachers are hanging on their walls but what is happening inside of those classrooms I would imagine the more majority of this community would agree that we want our students to be sent to campuses that are safe and positive and our teachers and

admin um and our teachers and admin need support in making sure our campuses are just that maybe we can focus Less on slogans and proposals that cause National click Bait and More on resources put towards ensuring our children become educated healthy proactive members of society thank you very much that's it [Applause] all right we are now on to changes and

all right we're now at communications Mr Bridge uh very briefly um was at the Chino Hills uh Parks and Recreation Commission meeting last night and just wanted to bring up a couple of items for students and that in the Chino Hills area of our our school district the the city is in parks and rec is is promoting a poster and essay contest

uh called celebrate the family with the theme this is why I love my family there are going to be different categories kindergarten grades one through three grades four through six grades seven through eight and the entries are due into the uh Community Center by four o'clock on Friday September 29th so it's just about a little over a month away going to make

that announcement also Chino Hills is doing a uh their photo contest again with different categories that flyer is out and people can get information off of that and uh then the Chino Hills Community Center is having a teen activity center for grades 9 through 12 in the afternoons Monday through Friday and then the only other thing is this is the week

that high school or high school football starts Chloe did a great job of telling about the uh the schools that are playing they're all at home tomorrow night and Chino high is home tonight so as soon as we're done here I'm in the car and heading east a couple of blocks so would that uh concludes my comments

thank you Mr Branch Mr knot yeah so we had a mother uh just came spoke to us tonight uh regards to preserve and and possibly having our grandfather a class look to be looking to for her children so I like to have Dr Enfield hey could you have our staff look into that and and talk to the parent

okay yeah because my heart goes for our mother to uh it's all about children that's why we're in this business it's it's not about adults it's about the kids so thank you for coming out and tonight to share your thoughts and feelings about your family issues thank you uh I'd like to welcome and thank all of our

teachers and staff members coming back from long break from the summer you know nothing could be all smooth but we're working very hard to to reach out and serve our children so thank you our teachers and staff members and especially our security guard members we've been so proud of them lately you've guys been in a news media

all over the place so thank you appreciate you thank you I'd like to personally thank those people that uh who has taken maybe education more seriously than than others who had reached out to us and especially to me about education and today's concerns I'd like to thank yusu she happens to be also a BC School District Board member

their mothers and grandmothers are another person will be Mindy she's also known as OC mom another person is Mrs Sarah Kim um thank you because I strongly believe education starts at home if our parents are not involved and grandparents are not involved our kids are going to miss out in their education we just have to partner with

our schools to make sure that our students receive the best education they can receive in a most safe place there is and also I noticed that on August 21st there there is a parental rights day in Sacramento and surprisingly many of our parents are driving up there to voice their concerns so I appreciate them and I pray that

um nothing would uh uh harm them in their Journey because it's a long drive to seven hours drive I would like to make a proposal I think we need to move the capital of California to maybe it's in central area so it is more accessible to the citizens and and um and have a better Communications and and

just have more unified uh State someone said there's a New Mexico how about called it uh new California that's what we're dreaming and and praying for but um I'd like to see that but thank you for all being here uh tonight and especially our new school board member Chloe from ili school I'm so proud of you for your future goal uh

she wants to become a lawyer yeah and I told her how about a judge so thank you thank you good night thank you Mr now Mr Cruz um for the for the preserved parent yeah after after this ends please come by and um speak to us and then we'll get information phone numbers things like that and um as for that information you

mentioned about um side lighting our policies um it'd be really nice if if you could provide evidence and send it to us and and that'll be really great and the other one was that was kind of interesting another person talking that was this I remember when I was a kid going to school schools were safe there was no question about it just save we

trusted the teacher to trust the principals parents trusted the whole school system it was there's no problems at all until sacramental Place guidance into the system and then that resulted in parents questioning what was going on so I mean that was my observation of of how it was for me when when I was going to high school I mean it was a safe

place and things were you know you had fights you had this and that but my teachers were safe and my parents didn't doubt anything like that and for Chloe Chloe wants to go to UCLA and I'll just give you advice what my dad told me and that is don't be lukewarm you know you've got values you set your

values rather is this way that way it doesn't matter you'll feel better and when it comes to your ancestors it'd be really nice so so you're here you've got a great position and um you use it you use it so welcome back to another exciting skill year at at our community we hope you've had a restful and rejuvenating break and ready to

embark on new ventures in learning whether you're returning or joining us for the first time we're through to have you as part of our Chino Chino Hills schools these are problems to be filled with opportunities to learn grow and discover your passions our dedicated teachers and staff have been working hard to create an engaging and enriching curriculum that will Challenge and

inspire you each day is a chance to explore and question and create we value not only academic Excellence but also the Friendship memories and experiences that make school life truly special we encourage you to take an active role in club sports arts and other activities that pick your interests these are the moments that will shape your journey and

make this year one to remember a year of girls laughter and shared achievements so welcome back students and obviously football becoming real soon so it's gonna be really fantastic I also I I brought this last board meeting but I just want to share what what a student created five years ago this this um I bought it from her

and it's so it's so beautiful this thing I always look at it at least once a week and it just it's just the idea of it just it just it's it's so innocent coming from a student that this is to me so precious more precious than than the art that we see out there that cost millions of dollars this is awesome

stuff here and you know Dr Enfield maybe in the future as as our students make artwork maybe we should have an opportunity that they could auction their piece of work because this one here you could think a lot about this this is amazing it's amazing stuff okay so Michelle asked me to thank everyone who sent in handwritten letters

and postcards and emails and phone calls in support of the parental notification policy so you said she's humbled by the community support and appreciate the concerns for her safety While most of the letters were supportive there were some of that were unfortunately threatening how Virginia PD Swift action arrested were made arrests were made so again she extends her

gratitude and I just wanted to share she's been getting so many postcards I mean we're talking about a lot of postcards postcards one from Iceland all over the cities I'm sitting saying some beautiful stuff but one word that I I that is very very um it's coming popping a lot is courageous and boldly but you know you know I don't think those are those

are the right words the right word is being a good steward in our community providing safety for our children that is the key for each and every one of us to say that your courage and bold no it's being a good stewardess is giving to our community giving back to our children that is the key to all this

that is the key for Community Rising together is being good stewards to this world and to the Future kids that will be coming so thank you Sonia of all the things that you do I have to say this this is something interesting it's so incredible how sacramental feels so threatened by our policies for Parental notification that seeks to strengthen family involvement

I'm deeply saddened that Sacramento is taking such drastic measures to find a needle in the haystack that doesn't even exist if there was something if there was a law they would have acted swiftly but okay and then I wanna I just want to share this with you there's about um covid and this one I want you to pay

attention of the data that that I've been I'm looking at this is okay so CNN has August 17th at summer wave of covid-19 hits the U.S questions about vaccines quarantine and testings are back okay okay so so they're talking about the rise of covid-19 and maybe coming back in the fall you know at summer fall you know winter

but then I want to share this with you and that is this this came from the Lancet tobacco smoking and covid-19 infection this was May 25th 2020 and this is what it says this is what is stated despite this Association it is unclear whether the modification of ace2 receptor frequency or availability has an effect on mortality certainly

patients of ACE inhibitors do not appear to be an increased risk of infection or death non-peer-reviewed data released from France suggests that smoking might have a potential protective effect against SARS covid II and it says infection by interaction with the acetylcholine receptor but these data I'll stop right there so this this paper was a little bit ambiguous as you read it it just goes

all over the place and um it's called tobacco smoking and covid-19 infection from the Lancet now this is the one this came from this is NIH and this was 2023 Journal of biological chemistry now I'm going to read this twice the SARS kovid contains a neurotoxin-like region that has a sequence similar to the rabies virus and the HIV glycoprotein as well as naked

neurotoxin which interacts with the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor so I'll read again the SARS covid to glycoprotein contains a neurotoxin-like region that has a sequence similar to the rabies virus and HIV glycoprotein as well as a snake venom neurotoxin interacting with the nicotinic oscillating receptor that that pathway that that's like an energy pathway now this paper talks about smoking

obviously smoking's nicotine this is talking that this is where it binds at the nicotinic so many people hunch that that if now I'm going to say something that's a little bit out there but it makes perfect sense and that is like for instance if if your dog drinks antifreeze by accident what do you give that dog you give that dog

beer so if coving covid-19 comes back this this is what I'm going to do I'm going to all right chew nicotine gum because I'm thinking to myself if it's at the nicotine receptor and if this nicotine is going to compete with the covid-19 which one has a greater affinity so I just find that really interesting so I just wanted to share that with you

and this paper is called SARS covet 2 Spike Echo Dame targets The nicotinic acidylene receptors so that's what I want to share with you and also Harvard study shows that nicotine is not addictive so there's papers out there that states that and that's all I wanted to share thank you Mr Cruz superintendent Enfield I want to uh welcome you to the the

board and I hope that you have nothing but a positive experience here and and additionally it's your senior year so I know you probably have what uh five six AP courses hopefully you have a fun and exciting school year as your senior year as you finish up here in Chino Valley okay um I also want to reiterate what Mr

Hernandez said I want to thank the CSEA our classified staff for all the work that they do over the summer to get all of our our schools ready they always do a fantastic job they've been out there hustling to make sure we are ready to to go there has been some issues but it's not on them it's on getting the

materials here there's been some back orders on on a number of items but we do the best that we can again I also want to thank our teachers our classified our certificated staff for the work that they do to get our classrooms ready to go they do a phenomenal job every year and we always have that smooth opening

and again this year was no exception we started off with a really great opening to the school year and also I want to thank our administrative team they they do a phenomenal job of dealing with me and also with making sure that our schools are ready to go and then lastly I want to thank all of our welcome back all of our students and

our parents and I wish all of them that they have a tremendous school year and again I want to wish everybody a wonderful school year thank you Dr Enfield and uh just a couple of things so I too want to welcome Chloe it's uh not easy being up here in front of everybody so I commend you for for that effort and

and hope that you can balance all that you have in your schedule this year so we're glad to have you um I want to thank all the the teachers and parents and students we're getting ready it's a exciting anxious time as school starts so I know I'm excited for another school year um I do want to make a couple of

comments we had we had a comment on safety again tonight so one of the things that um I would hope that that people would pay attention to you know last year we uh we put some effort into safety on campuses specifically our high school campuses and we've kind of redesigned what safety looked like and I think it uh I think

the staff did a great job in doing that in working with the local police departments and and kind of giving a new direction to security staff on campus and how to be used and increasing the numbers so we as a district take that very seriously um I think specifically in this in this latest incident that Chino Hills where

we had the stabbing off campus you know all the people that were involved were arrested um so what I'm going to call your attention to is Monitor what happens to this young man who stabbed this student because I would bet that very little is going to be done and that he's not going to be held accountable for trying to stab somebody

to kill them he was arrested for attempted murder so pay attention because it's very hard for someone to be held accountable for their crimes these days and when we talk about safety we can do all that we can on campus but we have to have our elected officials do the same they have to meet us there and be just

as committed to us at providing that safety and unfortunately we are living in an area where they are not being held accountable so uh follow that and if you have issues I would recommend that you follow those issues up to the appropriate elected official um and then by last item uh thought I will close with talking about safety

I want to give a big thank you uh to now retired Chief Simmons from the Chino Police Department who served this community for 28 years who worked hand in hand with this District to provide the safety that we have was always willing to work with us and his family a tremendous sacrifice over those 28 years and he did a

phenomenal job retiring from the Chino Police Department as a chief of that agency so I want to commend him for that and wish him well in his retirement I also want to congratulate chief minson on being sworn in today I had the opportunity to attend his swearing in today they couldn't have picked a better person to carry on the tradition of that

agency and I know that he will continue that Legacy and working hand in hand with the community in this District to provide the safety that we have enjoyed for many years so with that said I now adjourn the regular meeting the Board of Education
